13 | THE BLONDE THAT DIRECTLY KILLS STEVE
NAYARA TYPED QUICKLY on her computer. The girl was using the program given by the blonde hero to find the Purple Man. She needed to help the Avengers, but how was she going to give the information to the Avengers? That was something she was planning to find out later.
A knock on the door startle Nayara. She looked up to see Emma smiling at her with a box on her hands. "Hey, umm...Hank told me to give you this. She said it was something you asked him for a few days ago." She said, putting the box in the bed next to where Nayara was sitting.
Nayara put the computer next to her and opened it. She smiled widely when she saw the earplugs she had asked. She put them on. "Can you speak?" Nayara asked Emma.
Emma nodded, confused on what the girl was thinking. "Hello, Nayara." She said.
Nothing.
Nayara's smile grew ten times when she did not hear anything that Emma said. "This is brilliant." Nayara said, taking them off.
"What do you need this for?" Emma asked her. Nayara froze, her eyes turning to look at Emma. She bit her lip, thinking of an answer. "What are those for?" Emma asked her again.
"Students are just...being too loud in school." Nayara lied, not able to look at her in the eye.
Emma sighed. "Please tell me the truth Nayara." Emma told her.
Nayara sighed. She did not want to break the trust that Emma had on her. The guilt will tear the inside of her piece by piece. "Umm...I-I heard the Avengers whisper something." Nayara told her.
"I thought we discussed that you wouldn't get involve." Emma told her.
"I didn't. Not yet. That's another thing I have to do." Nayara told her.
"Get involved!" Emma exclaimed. "You said yourself. You didn't want to be put up in a jail or something." Emma told her.
"I have to explain everything to you." Nayara told her, looking down at the box.
"Yes, you do." Emma told her. Emma saw the guilt start to appear in her eyes. "Sorry, it's...you can talk to me Nayara." Emma told her.
The girl met her eyes with slight sadness. "I didn't want to bother you. You have done enough for me by just simply taking me into your home, feeding me...buying me cute clothe without me asking for them."
"Well, they remind me of you. Unless you want to come with me?" Emma told her. Nayara shook her head. "You are not a bother to me, Nayara. I accepted everything when I said I was taking you in. I have never been a mother before, nor I will ever be able to replace yours...but I am here for you. You don't have to keep everything hold within yourself. I know what you have been through. You can talk to me." Emma told her.
"You read my mind?" Nayara asked Emma.
The blonde gave her a side smile. "You were struggling for your words...and I wanted you to be honest with me. Could you do that from now on?" Emma told her. "You don't have to carry the weight of everything in your shoulders." Emma added.
"I am trying to find the Purple Man." Nayara blurted out. Emma looked at her confuse. "In the comics he was the archenemy of Jessica Jones who was a victim of his mind control. He uses his voice and eyes to hypnotize. I didn't read Jessica Jones videos but read a little about her. That...That's why I went to a private detective a couple of days ago." Nayara told Emma.
Emma looked her, and took a deep breath. "A private detective?" Emma asked her.
"That was Jessica Jones. I lied and played with her emotions, because I knew she was a victim too...and she will be able to find him. The problem I have is that I don't know what he looks like in this universe, and neither does 90% of the people." Nayara told her. "I know. I know...but if he goes near any politician or Avenger he would be able to get a hold of them and ruin the entire world. I-I wanted to use my knowledge. Just to help. I asked Beast to get me these so that I could oppose mind control. I think I can." Nayara told Emma. "Does being a telepath help you with mind control?" Nayara asked.
The woman looked at her with opened mouth. "Nayara." She sighed.
"You mad?" Nayara asked.
"No...but...You can't get involved in this." Emma told Nayara. The blonde reached for the girl's hand, thinking of her words carefully. She had never been in this situation before. Hell she had never thought she will be a mother this soon. She remembered how her mother behaved and what she used to say. "It's dangerous, and if you believe doing this will help you feel better about all this then don't. It's going to put you even more danger." Emma told Nayara.
"Can you oppose mind control?" Nayara asked her. The woman shook her head.
"I-" Emma started but was cut off by her.
"You are the most powerful telepath there is." Nayara said to her. "But can you?" Nayara asked her. Emma nodded at her. "I don't want you to go and walk in there. It's just in case things go south." Nayara told Emma.
"What do you have in your computer?" Emma asked her. Nayara shrugged. Emma took it away from her seeing the tracking device. "How the hell did you got something like this? Did Stark gave it to you?" Emma asked her. "This is almost military like. How long have you had this?" Emma asked her.
Nayara ignored her words, finally finding the answer to the question she had been asking herself. "Theodore." She said to herself.
The woman looked at her with wide eyes. "Theodore gave you this!" She exclaimed.
"No." Nayara replied quickly. "He can give the information. The Avengers trust him...and the spotlight is not on me." Nayara told Emma, standing proudly up from the bed. "But that means...I will need to tell him. I will need to tell him that I know...but the questioning." Nayara said pacing around the room.
"No!" Emma yelled, causing Nayara to jump. "You will not tell anyone about this." Emma said, picking up the computer and the papers. "You will not get yourself involved with any of this. Got it?" Emma told her. Seeing a new set of papers on the floor. She quickly grabbed them before the girl could.
Nayara sighed, covering her face with her hands. "James Buchannan Barnes. Lost in duty?... Winter Soldier...Siberia...What is this?" Emma said, reading out loud the notes on the paper. She looked up to her before reading the last line. "Best friends with Steve Rogers, until the end of the line." Emma looked at the girl with slight fury and disappointment. "What the hell is all this Nayara? What have you been doing?" Emma asked her.
"I mess up. Big time." Nayara told her. "I saw...I saw Steve crying seeing a picture of his best friend and it broke my heart. I-I couldn't see him like that so I told him that he was alive working with HYDRA as the Winter Soldier. That he has been brainwashed. That he doesn't remember who he is." Nayara told rambling to Emma. "Then he came and ask me about it and I told him I will help him find him, and in return he wouldn't say a thing to anybody." Nayara added.
Emma glared at the paper. "What if he doesn't? What makes you so sure that he wouldn't be calling the rest of the Avengers or SHIELD! They will discover you and you will be in a lot of trouble." Emma told her.
"You will too." Nayara corrected looking down at the floor with tears in her eyes.
Emma put the stuff back into the bed, and walked to the girl. She looked down at it before pulling her into a hug. "I am not concerned over me. I'm concerned over you." Emma told her. "I didn't made you cry did I?" She whispered to her.
Nayara shook her head. "It's my fault. Me and my big mouth. I should have said nothing, but...it's just that I love him as a person. I love him. He was one of my all time favorite fictional characters. Someone I could on hold to, just like Carol. You know Carol and Barbara Gordon were my role models.
"Who is Carol?" Emma asked her.
"Captain Marvel, Warbird. Ms. Marvel...although the latter has already been taken by another wonderful Pakistani-American girl. Her name is Kamala. She is pretty cool." Nayara told Emma. "Barbara doesn't exist in this universe. She is off in another one, running around the streets of Gotham with the boy-wonder or the canary." Nayara said. Emma smiled, seeing the spark that Nayara's eyes had when she talked about something the girl loved. "I just couldn't see him with that pain and guilt. It physically hurt me. So, I knew I had to do something. I didn't think on the consequences that it will have on myself. I just-" Nayara told her.
"Thought of others before you." Emma finished. She dried the tears off the girl's eyes. "You did it because you cared." Emma finished.
"I never wanted to you to be disappointed me, or even think I have been lying to you. I am really thankful on your help on everything and I-" started but Emma cut her off nodding at her.
"I know." She finished.
"I just thought I was invincible for a second. Carol Danvers once said, because when you're invincible, you can do anything you think of. After all, who is going to stop you?" Nayara said, reciting one of her favorite lines.
"And nobody is going to stop you." Emma told her. She handed out the papers of the Purple Man to Nayara. "Give it to Theodore. It is clear that it is important, so send it with him." Emma said before leaving the room with the papers about Bucky Barnes. "This I will keep for now. Tell Rogers that if he wants to get information about his missing friend, that he should go and search it himself. Don't put a teen to do the job." Emma said, stopping at the door way. "And tell him I will have a serious word with him." Emma said before leaving the room.
The blonde walked to her office, and placed the information of the missing man inside her hidden safe. A loud knock made her stop. She walked to the door, revealing a tall man with long black hair; which was drawn back by a bow.
Emma stopped, seeing the head of the Hellfire club standing in her apartment.
Nayara dialed the man's number, taking her backpack and putting everything inside. After a few seconds the line was accepted. "Hi, am I speaking to Theodore?" Nayara asked.
"Yeah, that's me. Who is this?" He asked the girl.
"Nayara. I need you help on something urgent. I can't talk it on the phone. I need you to trust me." Nayara said, before giving the man the direction to a coffee shop that was near her highschool. The girl ended the call quickly, walking out of her room.
She raced down the stairs, looking at her phone not realizing the man sitting on the couch. "Emma I will be-" Nayara stopped seeing Emma standing in the middle of the room.
Go now, she heard Emma whisper in her head. Nayara looked at the man sitting on the couch. She did not recognize him at first, but when she saw the bow on his head and the evil eyes within him she suspected who he was. The inspired 20 century shit and suit he was wearing also gave him away.
"Who is this?" The man said, looking at Emma.
"She was just leaving." Emma replied. Nayara nodded, walking to the door.
"We haven't yet." The man told Nayara.
"I apologize but I am in such hurry. I am running later for a meeting." Nayara told the man. Nayara walked out of the apartment, closing the door behind her.
Emma looked at the man. "I didn't know you had a visit." Sebastian Shaw told her. "Niece I presume? If so I will not be shocked if she possesses some kind of power. The Hellfire Club needs a future to relay on." Sebastian told Emma.
"She doesn't have a power." Emma told Sebastian.
"It might be that it hasn't manifested yet." Sebastian told Emma. Emma shook her head.
"She doesn't have the X gene, which means she stays out of all this." Emma told Shaw. Emma walked to the kitchen, and taking out some coffee to give to the man. "She is clueless about everything." Emma told him, coming out of the kitchen and handling it to him. "She wouldn't be of no use." She added.
She wanted to protect the girl, that was the reason why she was filling up the man's mind with lies. Pure lies.
"What do you want?" Emma asked him.
"We need your back. The Hellfire needs its Queen." Shaw told her. Emma shook her head. "Frost International can keep itself a flood, your academy will be fine." Shaw told the woman.
Emma shook her head. "No. I have been busy. Too busy. I am not going back. Somebody needs me." Emma told the man.
. . .
Nayara walked quickly to the cafe. She recognized the tall, and aging body of Theodore. She entered it and stood next to the man. "Coffee is on me." Theodore told Nayara.
"A mocha will be fine. Thank you." Nayara told the cashier. She looked at the man standing next to her. "I need your help. Actually, I need a favor." Nayara said before walking to a seat.
The man followed her. He sat opposite to her, seeing how she pulled out a brown file from her folder. "I-I don't trust easily. Especially since I don't know about your existence in this world and...the point is I am trusting you now." Nayara told the man. "I need you to give this to the Avengers." She whispered to him.
The man opened it, looking at some of the notes from the girl, paper clips, a police report, etc. The girl quickly stood up, going to get both of their coffees. Once she got back she found the file in front of her. "It is a matter of security.
"Have you seen the latest case?" Theodore asked her.
"About what?" Nayara asked the man.
"About the man who you wrote about. A man was listening to his music full on. He still is able to possess the man. Or at least that is what Betty told me." Theodore told her. "Who should I give it too?" Theodore asked her.
"Steve." Nayara told Theodore. "I just ask for one thing. You say you found all this." She added.
"I can't steal your work." Theodore told her.
"I don't want to get suck into their world. I don't want to be in their spotlight because that will be bad for me." The girl whispered. "And you know the reason why?" Nayara told him. "From where I am from, they, Emma, and every single superhero are all fictional characters. They live within the pages of comic books. They inspire many. They have lived ageless lives through decades. Cap has been around for seventy-five years and more. I grew up watching cartoons of the X-Men...and it was the reason why.... when I saw you I freaked out...the reason why I don't trust you. I don't know you. I didn't know you even existed."
"It was a ripple in the universe for you." Theodore told her. "It didn't fit your knowledge so you were scared and didn't know what to expect." He added.
"Yeah." Nayara said.
The man gave the girl a kind smile. "Well, I would have been petrified if I had been thrown into Asgard suddenly." Theodore told her.
Nayara "That's a different realm, or planet but it is still within this world. Well if you do believe in Norse gods, then they also exist in my world. They are just legends. Unless you strongly believe in Norse gods." Nayara said, before laughing. "I will also joke with my cousins and my younger brother about...about Thor when a thunder storm will arrive. I will always tell him, oh what has lucky done now to piss off Thor?" Nayara said, smiling at the memory.
"You miss them?" Theodore asked her. Nayara nodded, taking a sip of her coffee. "I can't take the ownership of your work." He repeated.
"If you don't then I will be followed none stop by the Avengers and loose every single normal thing in my life." Nayara told him. "I am trusting you with this. Please." Nayara told him.
He nodded at her, before giving her a big smile.
Nayara frowned seeing a motorcycle stop in the curve. A woman got off it entering the coffee shop and walked straight to Nayara. The girl relaxed when she saw it was Carol Danvers. Her hero.
"Nayara, hi." Carol said before she noticed Theodore, who had hidden the file in his own bag. "Theodore, good to see you." Carol told the man.
"Good, I have to go and get back to work." Theodore said, getting ready to stand up from his seat. He looked at Nayara. "I will see you around." He told before nodding a goodbye to Carol.
The woman took the man's seat and looked at the girl with a raised eyebrow. "You don't anything right now, right?" Carol asked her. She shook her head. "Steve asked me to come and pick you up, but he is running late so I'm taking you with me."
"Okay." Nayara said, smiling Carol.
"You aren't going to ask what for?" Carol asked her curious.
"It's you. I mean it's Captain Marvel talking to me. There is nobody who I trust more than you. Not even Steve...but you didn't heard me say that."
Carol looked at her amused. Then she smiled when she saw the Star Wars long sleve shirt the girl had been wearing. "Really?" Carol asked her. "Who do you think will win in a fight?" Carol asked her.
"You." She answered without hesitation. Carol laughed at her response. "There is no doubt in that." Nayara added.
"If I tell that to Steve I think I will hurt his ego." Carol joked, taking out her phone. "So...dark side or light side?" Carol asked her.
"Light side." Nayara answered.
"Cats or dogs?" She asked.
"Dogs." Nayara replied before taking another sip of her drink. She knew that Carol preferred a cat, she had one herself named Chewie like the wookie. "You know, I do admire a lot. And I will do anything to have more of your company, but you can tell Steve I don't need a babysitter." Nayara told her.
"Trust me. I will be a horrible babysitter." Carol told her.
"I doubt that." Nayara replied looking outside.
"And why is that?" Carol asked her curiously.
Nayara smiled at her. Because you are an amazing person, Nayara thought "I just think so." Nayara replied. "What does he even want?" Nayara asked her.
"You ask me? I just went to get you." Carol told her. Nayara finished her coffee quickly, and stood from the table.
"Where are we going?" Nayara asked the woman.
"It will be a surprise." Carol told her, walking out of the coffee with Nayara behind her. Carol handed her a helmet, which she put with difficulty. "Hold on tight." Carol told the girl, getting into the motorcycle. Nayara nodded and followed her instructions. She will be lying to herself if she didn't admit that she was anxious and exited since she was hugging her hero.
. . .
The two of them arrived at an air base out of manhattan and up state New York. Carol got out first and Nayara followed. "You like planes?" Carol asked her.
Nayara nodded. "Yeah." She answered following the pilot inside a warehouse. She stopped, looking at a picture of Carol on her U.S Army Pilot suit, and then another one were she wore a NASA suit. The girl smiled at the picture. "I didn't know you served." Nayara lied, starting a conversation with the hero. She followed her to a small hall and into an office.
"Yeah. I signed up. I wanted to do something for my country." Carol told her. Nayara nodded at her. She stopped when she saw an orange thing come out under a chair. She recognized the organge cat.
Chewie, she thought. The cat looked at her and purred. "Hello fella." She said , smiling down at it.
"I'm surprised he likes you. I though you didn't like cats." Carol told her.
"It doesn't mean I hate them." Nayara said. Carol walked out the office when her name was called. Nayara knelt down a few feet away from the cat. She narrowed her eyes at her. "You know, you are a really cool space cat. I am also not from here, but not an alien." Nayara told the cat.
The cat walked to her and moved so that she could pet it. Nayara pet it hesitantly, while the cat purred again, signaling his happiness.
"Nayara?" A voice said from the office.
The girl looked up to see Peter standing there. "I need you both here." Steve told the boy, walking inside the office. Followed by Carol and an another blonde.
Nayara looked at the unknown woman carefully. Steve noticed this, and presented her. "Oh, Nayara this is Sharon Carter." Steve told her. Nayara's face paled slightly, as she looked at the woman. "Sharon this is-"
"Emily." Nayara said, lying about her name. She looked at the blonde woman who might probably be a mole of HYDRA.
"You name isn't Emily its Nayara." Peter told her, correcting her. The brunette gave him an slight glare.
"She is here because we're trying to find a mole problem." Steve told Nayara.
"And you think it's us?" Peter asked him, pointing between him and Nayara.
Nayara shook his head. "No. He think it's me." Nayara said, looking at Steve. "That's why I was bought here, and you used Carol to bring here because you know I will trust her." Nayara said, glaring at the hero; feeling both portrayed and hurt.
Steve leant on the desk, looking at the girl who had endlessly helped her. "Actually, neither of you. We just wanted
"Who do you think it is, then?" Peter asked Steve.
Sharon Carter, Nayara thought. She picked up the cat and held it on her arms. Chewie snuggled on her arms, while the brunette looked at Sharon Carter. The one person who will cause the downfall of Steve Rogers.
"That's the problem. We know its inside the organization."
"Sharon is here to babysit." Steve told them. "While we clean you two wouldn't enter to the Avengers Tower. It has to be solved first." Steve told them.
"We can help." Peter told him.
"Why her?" Nayara asked Steve, looking at the blonde. She was not judging her, but she was still concerned for Steve's safety.
Carol gave Nayara a slight amused face while Steve's seemed guarded. "If nothing is needed I will go back home. I don't need a babysitter." Nayara told Steve, putting Chewie down. Nayara nodded at Carol. "Thank, but I will make my way back." Nayara said, eying slightly at Sharon before leaving.
She heard a set of heels behind her. She turned around, seeing Sharon Carter. "I have no file on your existence. You know. Steve mentioned you." Sharon told her. Steve and his big mouth, Nayara thought. "He told me you were his new protégée, but what shocked me the most that you are nowhere to be found. It's like you never existed."
"Well, I am standing in front of you aren't I." Nayara replied, glaring at the woman. "And I don't know who you are talking because you could never compete with Margaret Peggy Carter. Steve deserves better." Nayara told her.
The blonde tried to play off the comment. Nayara would not have been rude to the woman, but she was guarded. She did not know which timeline she had fallen into, which meant she had to be careful of who she spoke to. If she was were she thought she was, the woman will have already – if not – been under the HYDRA spell.
"You are the mole." Sharon stated.
Nayara glared hardly at her. She walked closer to her, looking her dead in the eyes. "I will never portray Steve. Not even on my deathbed. He has a lot of enemies, even the closest to him." Nayara said.
"Like who?" Sharon asked her.
"Like you." Nayara answered before thinking. She bit her lip before looking back at Sharon. This time braver than before. "You will cause his downfall Sharon, and I will stop you. Even if I have to give out my life for it." Nayara told her. She stopped halfway, turning one last time to the woman. "He could do so much better...and I swear that if anything happens to him because of you, I will haunt you down myself." Nayara said before walking out of the warehouse. She stopped outside, taking deep breath as the fresh air hit her face.
The girl did not know that Steve had heard the last words that the girl had said about the mole, Peggy and even Steve's possible ending.
Nayara heard a cough behind her, causing her to look over her shoulder at the blonde hero. "What do I think that you know more than you led on?" Steve asked Nayara. She knew the girl was quiet, and secretive about her life, but he knew she was no threat. The girl tried to help endlessly and from Peter had told her, he had helped him too. She never asked for something in return, she just confied to herself.
Nayara didn't answer. She remained quiet. "You don't trust Sharon." Steve told her. The girl looked down at the floor. "How do you know about Peggy?" Steve asked her. He knew that was a personal information that nobody could have even learned in a museum, just like Bucky's. "You knew about Bucky...and now you know about Peggy. I never mentioned her." Steve said looking at the girl.
Nayara bit her lip in thought before looking at the blonde with tired eyes. "I am not the mole." She told him.
Steve nodded at her. "I know." Steve replied with honesty. "Sharon believed you are. She said that there is no existing files about you before." Steve told Nayara.
"What I said about me not being from here is too, Steve."
"The whole truth?" Steve asked her. Nayara did not replied.
"It's part of it." Nayara said. "You wouldn't belive it if I actually told you." She quietly added.
Steve sensed how the girl tried to avoid the topic, so he changed it. "You will give your life for me, huh?" Steve asked her. Nayara sighed, knowing now that he had heard her words.
Nayara turned to look at Steve dead in the eyes. "Yeah. Even if you don't believe I would. I will." Nayara told him. Steve nodded, seeing the confidence and the determination of the girl's words.
"You don't even know me." Steve told her.
Nayara let out a sarcastic laugh that confused Steve. If only you knew Steven, Nayara thought. "You inspire people. You are a hero. You have no idea how many people will be affected by your death Steve...and despite of you not knowing me...I do know you. Most of it at least...and I would never forgive myself if I let a legend come true, because if I could stop it...I will. No matter the risks." Nayara confessed him.
"You gather all from those legends in your planet?" Steve asked.
"Not planet, world." Nayara corrected him. Steve frowned in thought. "Not even close to Asgard. A complete different universe far from this one. That's where I am from. Nobody knows about it though, and I will like for it to stay that way." Nayara told Steve. Nayara noticed the confused face of the man. "I'm telling you this because I trust you." Nayara said before starting to walk away from the warehouse. "Take care Steve, and be careful with Sharon. Sometimes the closest to us are the ones we never suspect." Nayara said before making her way to the main street.
