08 | SNEAK PEAK OF THE NEXT ISSUE

NAYARA FELT LUCKY by the fact that for the past two weeks since she spoke to Steve, she had not encountered the man. She was beyond happy. Why you may be asking? Well, how was she going to explain to the man that he was a fictional man in her original world and she has no idea how she ended up in this world of his own.

Regarless of that, Peter seemed to be talking to her more than normal. Things were looking up for both of them, but just as Nayara thought: hapiness can not last that long. Something within the universe had to change to maintain the equilibrium of life.

The change? Senator Kelly coming into power and the rumors of a new mutant cure along with the new expansion of the sentinel program.

Nayara had to witness at first hand how a student from Midtown High School was roughly removed from the school. She was standing with Peter and Carter that eventful morning. Peter had to hold her back from intervening. She saw how the young boy - who was a freshman - was dragged out. In the process he had hurt one of the man by giving him an electric shock.

She knew tensions were increasing between mutants and non-mutants. The sentinel program was yet to be accepted in the government but it was just a matter of time. She felt helpless in this situation because she knew that she could not do anything in this situation. She was just a girl that knew too much.

And it was that knowledge that might kill her someday.

. . .

Nayara sighed, continue presenting her idea for the boss of her internship. "If you change the layout of this, and edit this then it will flow better. This way, you will be able to show the people in a more straight forward way what you want." Nayara finished.

"We want to demonstrate the weapons and how useful they are." One of the male workers said to her.

"T-" Nayara stopped herself before she said Tony's name. "Mr.Stark changed this company, and his aims because he wanted to change what he did in the past. So, you should demonstrate how his aim had change. If you prove to the people that Stark Industries is much more than just a company of weapons and scientific advancement then they will believe it. As they say, you believe it you see." Nayara told them.

Pepper Potts ran down the halls of the Avenger's tower, and to the media departament as she chatted on the phone with a worker. "No, we aren-" Pepper started but was cut off by the raising of voices coming from a room.

"Ms.Potts..." Happy started but was cut off by the red haired woman who held up an hand, monitoring him to be quiet.

You have no say in this. She is just an inter. She hasn't even been to collage yet. I might agree with her. Where some of the things being discussed loudly in the room.

Nayara sighed, standing tall in front of the workers. "Well, I mean it's just an idea. I wanted to inter here because I wanted to learn how to work within a company." Nayara kindly said through the phone. She took a deep breath, looking down at the floor. "It was just an idea. You said to pitch and I did." Nayara told some of the workers.

"She thinks she is the boss because-"

"Myrtle, she won the contest. Everyone should give her a break." A woman said. Nayara knew her from the office and she was kind enough to help her adjust the hectic environment. Nayara was confident in that she will maybe not work for such a big company. It was somewhat stressful.

"My idea was that maybe we can discuss more about what Stark Industries is doing by helping people in their lives. We could tell first hand stories, pictures, videos. Show the world that Stark Industries has changed and wants to do something better in this world." Nayara said.

Pepper looked at Happy and then at the door. "I will have to call you back, later." Pepper Potts said through the phone before hanging up the phone and walking closer to the door.

Nayara held her head higher. "It was just an idea. I mean, we change because there is always room for development. I believe-" Nayara stopped talking when she saw Pepper Potts enter. Her breath stopped when she saw her. She looked more taller than what she thought.

"Idea for what?" Pepper asked, catching the attentions of some of the workers. Pepper looked at the girl who was frozen in her spot.

The head of the team stood up and shook Pepper's hand. She looked at Pepper with a fake smile, and pointed at Nayara. "We were pitching up ideas

"Hello, Ms.Potts." Nayara said, her voice crackling slightly.

"My office, please." The red haired woman told the girl. Nayara nodded and followed her out of the room, taking her notes and bag with her.

"Umm...where is your office Ms.Potts?" Nayara asked, following Pepper who walked quickly with those heels. Nayara was trying to keep up with the woman's pace, but she was unable too. "Am I in trouble? I mean I was just-"

"You aren't." Pepper told her, stopping right on her tracks. "Happy, tell Tony I wouldn't be meeting up for lunch. I need to solve something first." Pepper told the bodyguard.

Nayara held a regretful look. "Oh, please don't cancel lunch with Mr.Stark. I am going to be here for a few more hours." Nayara told Pepper.

Pepper looked at the girl and gave her a smile. "You had an idea?" Pepper asked her.

Nayara nodded at her. "Yeah, for the project we were woking on." Nayara told Pepper.

Pepper nodded at her, seeing the girl struggle with the mess of papers in her hands. "You did?" Nayara asked confused. "I mean, it's not the one I send for the internship. It's a different one. I mean, I know Mr.Stark said you watched it which was kind of a shock-actually not really because I mean you are pretty cool and strong female CEO. Did you know that studies have shown that companies who have a woman as a CEO do well? I saw a ted talk." Nayara told the woman. She sighed. "I'm sorry for the rambling. I tend to do that when I am nervous. I wasn't expecting to met you Ms.Potts." Nayara told her quickly.

Pepper nodded, motioning to follow her. "Nayara, right?" Pepper asked the girl.

The girl nodded at her. "Yeah, that's me." Nayara added.

"I did watch your Spiderman video. I forced Tony to watch it as well, very amused by it by some reason." Pepper told the girl as they entered the elevator. "But, everything amuses him. So, don't take it personal." Pepper told the girl. "Do you need help with that?" She asked her as the young girl held into her things. Nayara shook her head.

"I'm good. Thank you though." Nayara told her.

"I heard the idea when you presented it to me. Apart of it of course.

"You have an office in the Avenger's tower?" Nayara asked her.

"Yeah. Most of the resources for the Avenger's were moved to another base up state." Pepper added, exiting the elevator. She took a few turns before she opened a glass door. "Come on in." Pepper told the girl. The girl nodded and entered, seeing the view of downtown Manhattan. "I was surprised by your words." Pepper told Nayara. "You could put those things in here." Pepper told her, motioning to her desk.

Nayara took a seat opposite to the woman. She panicked with a slight second, before she remembered that she was just presenting an idea of what  could - which she knew he was - Tony Stark was thinking. Pepper looked at Nayara's hesitation. "I was surprised on what you said about Mr.Stark's view on the company." Pepper told her.

"Well, it was just what I thought. An slight posibility. I was...trying to put myself in his shoes. Despite what some may argue, I do believe he is a very well rounded man. He has been trying, or at least that is what I think, to change things around. Kind of come clean out of everything wrong he has done. I am not pointing a finger at him. I mean, we all do mistakes. It's part of life." Nayara explained to Pepper.

Pepper nodded at her. "You know, I was his secretary before I become CEO. I got to know him, and it is really rare...well, extremely rare...that people get to see behind his ex CEO playboy millinore image. It just surprised me." Pepper told the girl. "Internship? How is it going?" Pepper asked her. Pepper saw the shocked face of the girl.

"It...it is interesting. I just never thought I will working here really."

"Parents proud I presume?" Pepper asked her.

Nayara hesitated for a second before answering. "Yeah." Nayara answered, thinking of her own family she had left behind.

Pepper saw the change in her attitude, and felt a slight guilt. "I'm sorry if-" Pepper started, but was cut off by somebody barging inside the room.

Tony Stark opened the door loudly walking to his girlfriend. "I'm working." Pepper told Tony with a glare.

Tony looked down at his watch and then back at her. "Yeah, and you also have to eat. We had lunch remember." Tony told Pepper.

"I have work." Pepper told Tony, motioning at Nayara who was sitting quietly in her chair.

Tony looked at her and then back at Pepper. "Already in trouble?" Tony asked the girl.

"Actually, she has had a brilliant idea. Something that I have been asking quietly for. Something that you might enjoy." Pepper told Tony, motioning at the girl's papers. "Nayara, will you like to share with Mr.Stark your ideas?" Pepper asked her.

The girl nodded. She passed him a paper with some sketches on smaller frames. Tony took and look at it. "I was thinking that maybe Stark Industries should show the people how they are helping the community instead of just making weapons of mass destructions." Nayara told Tony.

The man looked at her. "We are not making those anymore." Tony told the girl.

"Well, that doesn't seem to be the case when I was asked to go to the innovation labs for interviews. They were all very excited for

"Oh, Gredson is doing that thing again. Making things without permission." Tony told Pepper, who was already noting down something. "Thanks for informing us, kid." Tony told Pepper.

"You mean, me?" Pepper asked Tony.

"Yeah, her." Tony said, pointing at Pepper.

"I was telling others how to change the view on Stark Industries, they have to see the prototypes themselves." Nayara added. Tony looked up to her. "I mean, if you see it, you believe it. Right? If they see that Stark Industries is finally changing, which is already has but some people may disagree with that, then

"Do you think I can show them the new safety armor prototype?" Tony asked quietly at Pepper.

"The one you are working with Hank Pymm?" Pepper asked him. Tony nodded at her. Nayara's heart dropped when she saw Tony nod. Armor with Hank, god I have to worry about Ultron as well, Nayara thought. "No. It has to be safety proven first...and it has to be built." Pepper told Tony.

"We can-" Tony started but was cut off by Nayara.

"No. I...ummm...I think maybe we could do something with the health, or the green arch reactors type things. People are looking for renewable resources and helping the environment. Maybe something that doesn't entirely look also reflect like Mr.Stark." Nayara said, trying to draw their minds away from the deadly robot. Tony looked at her with narrowed eyes.

"What is wrong with my suit and me?" Tony asked her.

"Nothing, it's just that...maybe Stark Industries will get more investors and more support if it maybe have an image of its own. What if you we change it so that now they see more of Pepper and Stark Industries as independent things. I mean, I don't want to be rude or anything but some people aren't very big fans of Iron Man, or even Mr.Stark himself." Nayara added.

"You are one of those people, Ms.Lilly?" Tony asked Nayara.

Nayara sighed. "Just because I wasn't jumping up and down because I meant the Iron Man doesn't mean that I don't like you nor hate you. Not all are dying to meet you Mr.Stark." Nayara explained to the man.

Tony looked at Pepper who had a small smile. "You are incorrect, everyone is dying to meet me. You are just one of those who aren't and that is acceptable, but I want to bet a hundred dollars that you will indeed freak out if you were to meet Steve Rogers. You mentioned you were a fan of him, didn't you? I know you did." Tony said, keeping his eyes on the paper. Nayara's eyes widen slightly for a brief moment, she didn't knew he had actually listened to her. Tony looked at Pepper. "She told me she was fan of the one with the shield. He might be honorable, but I am cooler." Tony told Pepper. He set down the paper, looking at Nayara's with narrowed eyes.

"I don't do bets, sir." Nayara said to him.

"Where did you thought of that? Of what I wanted to make off my company?" Tony asked her.

"I am guessing, I got it right but you don't want to admit it because you are always the bigger person." Nayara told Tony.

"You can go, Nayara." Pepper told the girl. "Can I keep this?" Pepper asked her. Nayara nodded at her, before walking out of the glass doors. Once the elevator door's closed she let out a shaky breath as she leant her head agaisnt the wall.

Pepper turned to look at Tony who was watching the door frowning. "It's almost like she knows you perfectly." Pepper informed Tony.

"People tend to think of me as an egotistical, which I am, philantopist, which I am, and never change that idea, which I know." Tony told Pepper. "I'm not a sentimental guy.

Pepper put a hand on his shoulder. "You know  sentimental, secretly, but you are." Pepper told him. She stood up from his desk. "Do you want go to lunch now or?" Pepper asked him. Tony nodded without saying a single word, deep in thought. "She is a smart kid, Tony. That's how she figured it out. Now come on." Pepper told him walking out of her office. "Tony? I guess I will be eating by myself." Pepper said down in the hall. The man looked up to her and exited the office quickly following her.

. . .

Nayara sat quietly typing on her computer when a knock on the glass door bought her attention. Nayara looked up to her work seeing Peter Parker standing with two plastic bags. Nayara send a smile to him. "Hi." Nayara told him.

"I thought maybe you wanted to eat lunch on the roof with me?" Peter asked her.

"Aren't you suppose to be in school?" Nayara asked him.

"It's Saturday." Perter informed her. Nayara sighed, resting her elbows on the table. "Forgot about that, huh?" Peter asked her.

Nayara nodded. She put her stuff away and walked to Peter. "You bought me lunch?" She asked, smirking lightly at him.

"Yep. I will take that smile as a yes." Peter said, as Nayara nodded and followed him up to the roof.

The two teenagers sat down, a few meters away from the edge due to Nayara's own pleas of not going closer than that. "Okay, so...what do we do now?"  Nayara asked Peter. Peter chuckled. "Sorry, I...I was about to start the conversation by saying how is the weather or something but that isn't going to work." Nayara added, taking out her foot.

Peter put his foot down and pulled out a plastic card. He handed it to her. Nayara took it, looking down at it in thought. "Why would I need this?" Nayara asked Peter.

"You got to have clearance." Peter told her.

"You didn't-" Nayara started but Peter cut her off, sensing her worry.

"I didn't told them about you. Tony asked me to give it to you?

"Those it have a microphone or something?" Nayara asked, looking at it.

"No, it's just a full clearance pass." Peter informed her.

"Why would he give me one?" Nayara asked Peter.

"I don't know. Cap also mentioned something that you might need that in the future, which confused the hell out of the two of us but you know." Peter told her, nodding at the car white starting eating. "You clearly earned it." Peter added.

Nayara sighed, looking at it. "I will thank him later, now is time for lunch." Nayara said, smiling at Peter. "How much was it?" Nayara asked Peter. Peter shook his head. "Oh, come on, Peter. Tell me. Please." Nayara said to him. Peter sighed.

"The lunch is on me today. Don't worry. Enjoy it, please." Peter told her.

Nayara smiled lightly at him, putting her hair in a ponytail so that it would not bother her while eating. "Thank you, Pete. I mean Peter." Nayara said, correcting herself, her cheeks going slightly redder.

"You know you can call me by my nickname." Peter told her, sending her a giant smile. "It sounds cuter when you said with your accent." Peter told her. It was now his time to blush. Nayara's smile widen, nodding at him.

"Okay, I just didn't know if I could since I didn't know if were friends yet...and now I have made the conversation awkward." Nayara added. Peter chuckled at her.

"I didn't know we had a state." Peter said, repeating the same words she had said months ago. Nayara laughed lightly, nodding at him. "I have one for you." Peter said to her, looking down at his food.

"What is it?" Nayara asked him.

"Ara? Nay? I really don't know which one." Peter said, not looking at her face.

"Why don't you use both?" Nayara asked him. Peter looked up to meet her eyes that shown pure hapiness.

"Alright, Nay." Peter joked this time looking at Nayara in her brown eyes.

"Alright, Pete." Nayara said, before letting out a soft laugh followed by Peter.

. . .

Nayara was ready to leave her work, when she froze at the entrance of the Avenger's tower. She recognized the blonde man with piercing blue eyes that was standing outside with an umbrella. She saw the vintage motorcycle next to me.

She quickly adverted her eyes, walking pass the man. "Nayara." Steve said to her, and she ignored him, opening an umbrella of her own, before continuing to walk. "Nayara." He repeated, but the brunette did not listen.

The blonde sighed and followed her. He easily caught up with her and stood in front of her, blocking her path. "What are you doing?" Nayara asked him. "I have to get home before my mom-"

"You told me your parents disappeared." Steve told Nayara. "You lied?" He asked her.

"No. They did. I will never lied to you because I know you hate liars. I do too." Nayara said to him, looking at his piercing blue eyes. "I have a guardian waiting at home for me." She explained. Steve's eyes soften. "It's raining and it's kind of cold, I don't want to get sick so will you please leave me alone so that I can go to my home." Nayara added, frowning at Steve.

Steve shook his head. "Bucky?" Steve asked her.

"Who the hell is Bucky?" Nayara asked him, she held back a chuckled as she remembered the scene she had seen in the film The Winter Soldier. Steve gave her a tired look. "Sorry, about that. I just didn't understand the question." Nayara added.

"Where is James Barnes? Bucky?" Steve asked her.

Nayara sighed, she had no idea where Barnes was. She knew a little of the first issue of The Winter Soldier comics and had taken a brief glance at the third one. Even so, the comics didn't tell exactly where he was in this timeline, all she knew was that he might probably - if he had turned good, which she doubted - dating Natasha right now"I told you I didn't know, and you can't just creepily wait for me outside the tower. HYDRA agents could be walking this intact next to you and you are putting a big target in my back."

"How do you know about HYDRA?" Steve asked me.

"It's an evil organization that is always trying to kill you and destroy and conquer the entire world, I think I know who they are...and everyone else do too. It's not top secret." Nayara explained to him. "AIM is kind of secret, but if you look at the costume they wear you can recognized them quickly, they should change it." Nayara quickly added. Nayara sighed. "Don't look at me like that. I'm an educated woman." Nayara added, seeing something behind Steve's shoulder. She easily recognized the small pin held by a man's face in the hat, and she sure saw the gun coming out of the man's jacket. "Steve get down!" Nayara said, using all her strength to push the soldier down, saving his life.

She hit the wet floor, seeing how a man next to her felt on the floor. Steve looked at her before looking over his shoulder at the man who was aiming again. "Bad time to forget your shield." Nayara told Steve. Steve raised his hands in surrender. Nayara looked at the metal cap of the trashcan near her. She slowly slide away, taking a hold of the cap. The man was about to hit the trigger when Nayara screamed the hero's name, before trowing the trashcan's cap to Steve. Steve took a hold of it and blocked the bullet.

Nayara stood up, and took a hold of a metal long scrap. She walked to the HYDRA man and hit him roughly on the back and then on his head. The man fell to the floor unconscious. Nayara looked down at the man. That is for shooting, and trying to kill Stevie, Nayara thought.

The blonde hero let down the made up shield and looked at her. Nayara let go of the metal scrap before walking to the mind behind Steve who was got hit on the head. Nayara sighed, taking out her phone to dial 911.

Steve knelt down next to Nayara. "Could you hold the shoulder, for a second. Please." Nayara said before taking out her jacket and her sweater. The put the sweater next to the man and used the her jacket to rest the man's head. "Thank you." She told Steve as she pressed her sweater on top of the man's shoulder. "Give me your belt, please. There is a sentence I will never say...it's to hold the sweater on it's place and stop the bleeding." Nayara told Steve.

"How do you know this?" Steve asked her, seeing how hands shook. He didn't knew it was because of the cold or the nerves. It was both.

She held the man's shoulder with her hands, trying to hold the bleeding. "Are you okay, sir?" The girl asked the man with the blue suit, who was holding back a cry of pain. She noticed this. "You can cry sir. It's okay to cry. Just hold on, the medics are coming." She told the man.

The man looked up at her, and started to cry. Nayara held back her tears. "I have a family." The man said.

"And you will meet it. Don't worry." Nayara said, looking over her shoulder to see the medics. She could hear them at a distance.

"I can do it." Steve told Nayara, taking her hands away from the man and putting his own. Nayara nodded, moving away from the man. Steve looked at her from over her shoulder seeing the teary teenager who had saved her life. "Thank you." Steve told Nayara.

Nayara nodded at him, staying quite while the medics arrived.
