06 | RETURN TO HIGH SCHOOL
DESPITE POPULAR BELIVE Nayara did not mind high school. She enjoyed learning. She loved it. However, being stuck back in it right when you were about to graduate was not exactly something she was enjoying. Emma let her choose between staying at Xavier's school or continuing on in a normal school in Manhattan. Emma thought it will be great for her, and decided to do some of her research herself.
When the words came out of Emma's mouth she was surprised at hearing the woman's voice saying: you are going to Midtown High School. The girl was in shock, and she didn't know how to tell her how going there will only complicate things. She was not oblivious to the name of the high school, which was home to no other than Peter Parker. But how was she going to tell Emma Frost that the boy that went there could complicate things? Oh, yes. Peter Parker aka Spiderman goes there and he knows I might not be from here.
Now, neither less to say she was stuck at the start of a new school year. In a different world. Where she didn't know anybody. Anybody. Well, except the Parker boy; but she wanted to keep her distance of him.
Emma parked the car in front of the school. "You need an education to succeed. I want you to do so. There is nothing as
"You are smart and pretty. You got the whole combo." Nayara pointed out. Emma send her a quick smile before montioning her to leave. "Why here? I mean, I have second thoughts."
"Are you going to tell me what is making your so anxious? Is just a school."
"It's what is inside, that I can't tell you because I don't want to reveal someone's identity. This is so hard for me." Nayara told her, resting her back on the seat.
"You have been brave so far. Now you got to continue doing that." Emma told her. "It's just high school. You said so yourself last night, this is a parallel world just like yours...just with mutants and people with capes." Emma told her. "Now, go on." Emma told her.
Nayara nodded. "What if they ask me where I am from? What do I say? I am tired of telling lies. I am not a liar." Nayara told her.
"They don't answer. Tell them partly the truth. You should not be worried about anything." Emma told her.
Nayara took a deep breath before opening the door of the car. She took her backpack and closed it. She waved goodbye to Emma before turning to face the high school.
"Just high school. Just high school." Nayara told herself quietly, starting to walk through the doors.
. . .
Nayara hated a few things in life, one of them was being late. There were people who didn't mind, but her? Oh, she despised it. It made her anxious to run against time itself. And now she was being late to her first period.
She kept her eyes opened for Peter Parker, who seemed to not be here. However, her hopes where to die quickly when she opened the door to her chemistry class. The professor looked at her and then at her watch.
"I'm sorry I'm late. I was trying to figure out my way around her. Nayara Lilly." She told the woman. She extended her hand, and the professor shook. "It wouldn't happen again, madam." She added.
The woman looked down at her book, looking for a name. "I don't have you on my list." The woman said.
Nayara brushed the hair off her face. "It's because...I just got here. Oh, the woman at the front desk told me to give this to you." Nayara told the woman, passing her a paper.
"Now you are. Please take a seat next to Mr.Parker, please." She said.
Nayara froze in shock. "Pardon?" Nayara asked, thinking that she had heard wrong.
"Next to Parker, Ms.Lilly." The woman repeated.
Peter Parker who was looking at his computer didn't heard his name being mentioned. That was until the professor yelled his name. He quickly looked up, meeting eyes with his mysterious girl who seemed to knew everything, but never explain why.
"Was there a misunderstanding?" Nayara asked the woman. "Are you sure that is the right list?" She asked urgently. The woman nodded at her, showing it herself.
"It is, now will you please take a seat." The woman told her, growing slightly tired of the girls.
There were various moments where Nayara nerves were at it's peak. When she got sick for the first time with an illness herself couldn't comprehend. When her finals appeared quicker than thought; and now when she had to seat next to spider boy.
Nayara walked around the sea of students, and sat down on the seat she was assigned. She ignored Peter, trying to act as if she hadn't seem him. The boy seating next to her, looked at her and then look back at his desk various time.
Nayara leant back on her seat and sighed. Yeah, just high school. She sarcastically thought.
. . .
Nayara quickly left the class, looking at the map to find her next one. "So, your name is Nayara." A voice she knew too well said. Nayara hummed a response trying to act focused. "Your name is Nayara, and your next class in 229. Down the hall, you take a left and then a right." The boy told her.
Nayara sighed, looking up to meet Peter's eyes. "I'm not here to follow you, if that's what you are thinking. I'm just trying to get an education like everyone else." Nayara told him. "And thank you for the help." She quickly said over her shoulder before turning the corner. She crashed into someone, dropping her books. She knelt down to get them, just as someone else did as well. She turned to look at Peter who was helping her. "Thank you" She whispered.
When the girl stood up she was met by a tall blonde boy, who by the smug look he had one she knew it was no other than Flash Thompson. "Hello babe." He told her.
Nayara chuckled. "Hello, ape." She told Flash laughing again at her own joke she was about to walk away. She knew the bully inside an out, or at least what she had gathered from the comics.
"What did you just call me?" Flash asked the girl. The girl ignored him and continue to walk. "Hey! I'm talking to you." Flash yelled louder, making people turn their heads.
Nayara kept her head straight as she continue walking. Peter was silently watching what the girl was going to do next.
Flash took a hold of her backpack and pulled her back. She collided with the lockers, and she slightly glared at Flash. "Get off me!" She yelled at him pushing him away. "Are you really that life low to go and fight a girl? Are there any manners left in today's society?" She questioned him.
Flash stopped, and took a few steps away from the girl. Peter jumped in to defend the girl. The reason behind it, no idea. "Hey, Flash let her go." Peter told him, standing between Nayara.
"What do you have to say, Parker?" Flash told him, pushing him agaisnt the lockers.
Nayara sighed. "So, you are the school's bully? Pathetic. You could be so much better if you weren't one." Nayara told the boy. "Just leave, Peter alone. He hasn't done anything to you." Nayara added to him. She hated bullies. She despised them. "Be the bigger person and leave Peter alone." Nayara told the boy. "Well, if you are going to punch him then you have to go throw me first." Nayara told him, putting herself in front of Flash.
"I don't punch girls." He told her.
"I'm not moving." Nayara told the boy. Flash rolled his eyes and started to walk away. Nayara looked at Peter and nodded at him. "Thank you." She told him before walking away. Before he could follow her, his friend Ned and MJ were already by his side.
. . .
Nayara stood in front of the clubs sign up board. She debated weather to take the film club or photography. She decided to try out both. A voice behind her made her jump slightly. "I will recommend the photography club." Peter told her.
Nayara send him a quick smile. "Are you keeping an eye of me all the time? I told you I just came here for my education." Nayara told him.
Peter's eyes widen. "No. I'm not looking you at all the time. No I'm not." Peter told her.
Nayara smirked. "You don't sound so confident about that. Are you lying?" Nayara joked.
Peter sighed. "I'm confident." He told her. "You called Flash an ape?" He asked her.
"I don't like bullies." She told him. Peter quietly thought of the same words that had come out of American's most beloved here years ago.
"How did you knew he was a bully?" Peter asked her.
Nayara shrugged. "I just knew." Nayara answered honestly.
"You seemed to know everything." He told her.
Nayara looked down at the floor. "Sadly not everything." She told him with a sad smile. She wished she knew how she got there, and what will happen next; but she didn't. "Have a nice day, Peter." She told him, walking slowly away.
"Where are you going?" Peter asked her.
"Home." Nayara told him. "Unless you want to come along, but that will be weird." Nayara told him. Peter blushed simnifically at her words. Nayara laughed amused at the sight of the flustered boy. "It is a joke," Nayara reminded him as she continue to leave. When she was outside, she stopped at the screeching sound. The floor shook slightly, and Nayara had to hold to a pole to contain it. She looked up to the sky seeing in horror the creatures that she didn't see scary.
"Are you okay?" Peter asked her, seeing her face paled.
"The Sentinels." She whispered to herself. The boy heard her words.
"What?"
"The Sentinels! They are created to hunt down mutants." She told him. She spotted from a far a man flying up in the sky wearing a red cape. "I have to go." She told the boy running towards the action. As she ran, she dialed Emma's phone. "It's Magneto he is downtown." She told her.
"We are on our way. Stay out there." Emma told her.
"I-" She started but was hit by something. Nayara landed roughly on the pavement making her groan. She sighed, looking at the mind
"What do we have here? A human." The silver haired man that Nayara knew said. "Who are you talking to the phone with?" He asked her.
"Mom." Nayara said, to him. She kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and ran for cover. "Emma-" She started, but was cut off by the blonde on the other line.
"What was that?" Emma asked her through the phone.
"That was Pietro. The brotherhood might be here." She told her, pacing around the quinn jet.
Nayara looked around the corner, seeing the Sentinel out of control. "Magneto is controlling them." Nayara told her. Nayara looked around at the chaos. She watched as a man aimed his gun at a woman with dark blue skin and short black hair. "Domino is here. She just killed a man." Nayara whispered to herself.
Something landed behind her and she jumped slightly, quickly turning around. She calmed when she saw it was Spiderman. Spiderman took off his mask and looked at her. "Why did you took out your masks?" Nayara asked him.
"You seemed shock to see me." Peter told her.
"Put it back on." Nayara told him, putting it back on his wife. "Does that even protect you when you fall?" Nayara asked him curious.
"Good question, and I will prefer not answering that." He told her. "You know what does things are?" He asked her.
"Yes, they are designed to find and destroy mutants. Now they are being controlled by one himself. Magneto." Nayara told him. The earth shook again.
"Are you going to go to safety?" Peter asked her.
"When this is over, I guess." Nayara told him. Her eyes turned to the man leaning on top of the building. He let out a tongue and Nayara quickly avoided. The man laughed amused at her disgusted face. "Toad." She mumbled un her breath.
Nayara picked up a pink of scrap metal and raised high. Peter avoided being hit by it by kneeling down. "Come on." She told him, aiming at the man.
"Ugh." He said throwing his toad at the girl and she hit it with the metal scrap. Toad exclaimed in pain. Peter sighed, throwing a web at him and pulling him down. He crashed into the floor.
"You give bad reputation to mutants." Nayara told the man. "Thanks." She told the Spiderboy.
"You should wait here. People need help." Peter told her. "Just scream if you need help." Peter told her. He threw another web at the mutant man, sealing his mouth shot. "He wouldn't bother like that." He said before leaving.
Nayara looked down the street, seeing something go around in circles. She knew Quicksilver was trying to combat the police officers who were trying to stop the sentinel. She calculated the amount of seconds it took him to pass the alley she was at.
She took a deep breath before pulling the metal back, and then hitting whoever was on the other side.
Bang
The silver speedster landed flat on the pavement. Nayara looked down at him in amusement. "You didn't saw that coming." She told him, smiling at herself from the reference she had just done. The man sighed, remaining down there.
She felt proud that she had stopped the evil - for now - mutant. She looked around the corner again, seeing the X-Men fight. It bought a huge smile to herself seeing the cycroninzation between the members of the team.
She took out her phone, taking a beautiful shot of the disaster.
She felt something move behind her, causing her to turn and look down at the Toad. She took a picture of him, and then decided to take another picture from a different angle. "I'm giving credits to Spider-Man for this." She said to herself.
A loud boom resonated among the streets of Manhattan. Nayara looked down at the alley, seeing the Sentinel had fallen. She saw the X-Men leave. As they were about to leave, she Domino slowly aim at the head of Wolverine, who was taking off his claws from the sentinel.
Nayara knew the former X-Men had super hearing, but she was not going to risk it. She quietly, but quickly made her wade across the street. When she was right behind her, she drew her arm back and hit the woman on the head. She missed her aim, heating the sentinel and not Wolverine.
Wolverine turned around, seeing Domino fall down to the floor. Behind her, Nayara stood proudly with a piece of metal on her hand. She looked up, sending him a bright smile his way. She saluted to him before letting go of the metal scrap.
"Ah, she saved your life." Wolverine heard Iceman said through the earpiece. Wolverine just growled back at him, seeing how the girl slowly made her way away from the commotion and back home.
. . .
A/N: I'm having such a blast writing this story. It is exciting and funny to write the character of Nayara and her interactions with other heroes. She has the problem that she knows a lot, but does not what is going to happen next, but thankfully Emma is there so she can vent. Next chapter is going to be even better and funny in my opinion. I hope you enjoy this chapter.
