02 | A LITTLE MUTANT HELP

NAYARA STOPPED A few blocks away from the private school she was aiming to reach. She was tired, stressed and her symptoms of her own illness where beginning to show. There were two posibilites of where she was: real or dream. Everything seemed so real to her, which didn't help the fact that she herself had realistic dreams. Although, she was determined that even if it were - which she now doubted - she will reach the only team she trusted with her entire life. A team witch was made up by people she admired from such a young age, and knew that if it was up to her to demonstrate them that she was telling the truth, she will allow one certain person to reach the inside of her mind.

The brunette stood up, taking a quite sip of the water she had bought in the train station. She walked quietly the few blocks left and stopped at the entrance of the school. Her eyes landed on the big mansion in front of her, and her breath was taken away. She could faintly hear children playing.

She touch the rusted metal plate at the entrance that expelled and distinguished name: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

She softly opened the gate, and walked inside the premise. She admired the smell of flowers, and the beautiful structure. It amazed her how somehow she slowly started to feel calmer and almost at home. She knocked the door, looking around to spot anyone who could help her find the professor.

The door opened, reviling a woman with white hair, and dark skin. A woman who she had known her entire life, even if the woman never seen her before. "Hi, how can I help you?" She asked her.

"Hi, I'm...I looking for Professor Xavier. I think he might help me on something. My parents told me that if I were in trouble I could trust him." She lied to the woman.

The woman smiled at her. "What's your name?" She asked.

"Nayara Lilly." She told her proudly.

"Well...umm...he is busy. Right now." She said. "Come in anyway." She said.

"My parents were thinking of putting here in school, but they disappeared before they could." Nayara said, hiding the truth.

"Well, I'm Ororo Monroe. I am the principal now. I have taken over Professor's X position." She said to Nayara.

Good, Jean Grey hasn't taken over the school yet, Nayara thought. Nayara looked quickly at one group of students, where one was using his telekinesis. Nayara smiled slightly, amazed by it.

"So, who are your parents?" Ororo asked.

"Maria and Joe Lilly." Nayara replied.

"What did they saw in the school?" The woman asked her.

"Potential and happiness." Nayara replied without a second thought.

"Wait here." The woman said, stopping in one of the rooms. Nayara saw Ororo open the door, and she smiled slightly when she spotted a huge man made of metal. Nayara looked around, spotting a man in a wheel chair down the hall. He had a bald head, and a aged face.

Nayara stepped away from the room, and quietly followed the man who was wheeling away. She was half surprised that the man had not noticed her. She tried her best to keep her thoughts quiet and blank as she followed the man to his office.

The man turned to look at her when she closed the door behind her. "Hi...I-I'm Nayara Lilly. Professor X, I need your help." She told the man.

The man looked up to her surprised by the name she had used on him. "I did notice you following me, but I presume you were one of my students who was trying to prank me." He said, narrowing the eyes at her.

"I'm not, but I wished I was...you see I need your help and the X-Men." She said to him.

"There are not such things." He corrected her.

"Yes, there is. You are Charles Xavier. You set up the X-Men. The original group was made up by Bobby Drake aka Iceman, then Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops and Beast...and Angel. I-I came here for your help because I knew you will not let a innocent person perish...and because you are the only one who I trust other than Emma Frost to go through my memories. It...might seem weird but-" She said, but was cut off by him.

"You are not from here. How?" He asked.

"You read my mind. That's fine. You are a telepath." She answered, clutching her backpack tighter. "Look, it is weird to explain...I can't even think of it myself." She said as her eyes started to water, not only for fear but anger and anxiety. "I went here because I know everything about the X-Men, and I know you are heroes and you don't get enough credit for it. I know you have fought the sentinels, protected mutants and humans from danger...and I knew that...at least you and rest would have believed me or at least help me. Please. I don't even know if -" She said but was cut off by a piercing pain her head. She dropped to floor clutnching her head in pain. "Professor, please..I-I a-am not here...to hurt..anybody...I-I need help." Nayara whispered in pain as it extensified.

"It's not me." The professor said, approaching the girl.

The door busted open, revealing a woman with red hair that Nayara despised. She was followed by Ororo and another two men. Nayara knew them: Cyclops aka Scott Summers, Jean Grey and Beast aka Hank.

Nayara help back a painful scream and Jean narrowed her eyes at her. She couldn't contain the pain and screamed in agony.

"Jean, stop! Scott, there is no need." The professor said, looking at his two oldest students. Jean took her hand off her temple and looked down at the pained Nayara. "She isn't going to hurt us." Xavier said, putting his wheelchair between the girl and his students.

"She was looking for you since she came in." Ororo said, looking at Nayara who was silently letting tears fall. She was angry and fearful.

"For a good reason." Xavier said to her.

"You can go through my memories. That's why I came here...because you will be able to see that what I say is true." Nayara whispered to him.

Ororo looked at Xavier. "What is she talking about?" Ororo asked him.

Xavier lifted his hand, and looked at Nayara for permission. She nodded at him. He send her an encouraging smile before he put his hand on the side of her temple. Ororo looked at the girl, with curiosity.

"What is he doing? She is a threat." Jean Grey asked Ororo.

"He is seeing that she isn't." Ororo corrected her.

Charles Xavier saw everything. Every little memory of hapiness and heartbreak that involved around the girl and her graphic novels: specially the X-Men. He saw the excitement, the awe she felt when she saw the films, the shows. How she admired and loved each and every one of them. He felt every single emotions. It fell on him like a tone of bricks.

Nayara gasped when the professor took his hand away from her. Nayara looked down at the floor, cleaning her tears. Jean glared at her, slightly hearing the small insults she was thinking towards her.

What scared the red head the most was the small smirk that had appeared when she had read her thought. You don't know about privacy, Jean Grey. All of these words are towards you because I know you are listening, Nayara thought. Jean eyes widen slightly.

The professor chuckled slightly. "She is no threat to us. Will you please let us a moment to speak?" The professor asked.

"But-" Jean started, but the professor cut her off.

"Jean, please. There is not trouble here." He told her. Nayara let out sighed, relaxing a little bit. "Why don't you bring some water to the girl...and cookies. I bet the girl is starving." He told Jean. Jean nodded at him before leaving with the rest of the team. "Now take a seat." The professor told her.

Nayara sighed, slowly lifting herself from the floor. She slowly sat down in the chair opposite to the professor. "Thank you." She whispered. "You saw everything?" She asked him.

"Only what was needed." He told her. He was being honest. "And we all have to remain polite towards our mutant allies. We lack those nowadays." He told her.

Nayara sighed, taking off her backpack. She opened it, smiling at the sight of the X-Men comic she had bought. She took it out and showed it to the professor. "I just...thank you. I was just slightly agitated and confused on where I was." She said to the professor. "But I am starting to doubt that this is a dream, I have everything I left with and I can't remember anything that happened to me before I woke up in the hospital. I heard some nurses mention the Sentinel Services and I knew I was in trouble." She told the man.

"Do not fear. You know...when I see the memories of someone I-" Xavier said, before being cut off by Nayara.

"Feel the same emotions as them." Nayara cut him. She softly smiled, giving him a regretful look. "Sorry, I didn't meant to interrupt."  Nayara told him.

The professor gave her a kind smile. "Well-" He said before being interrupted again.

"Chuck, I needed-" A voice interrupted. Nayara smiled slightly, fully knowing that there was only one man who would have called Professor X that. Slowly, she looked at the hero she knew was a softie, despite what people may argue. "I didn't knew you had visitors." The man with dark black hair said.

Nayara laughed lightly, looking at the man in amazement. She did believe one of her favorite heroes was standing in front of her. If she was not in the situation she was in, she will have imagined herself running and giving the man a huge hug, but one can only dream.

"Surprise." Nayara said to the man.

"What are you looking at, kid?" He asked her.

"Logan...could you wait a moment." The professor asked him.

"You really want to wait a moment, Chuck." He sarcastically to the other man.

"You should talk him. It isn't like I am leaving any time now." Nayara said, cutting in the conversation between the two.  "I will wait outside." Nayara said. The man walked closer to the desk, spotting Nayara's comic book.

"What's-" He started, but was cut off by Nayara taking the issue out of his hand.

"Nothing." She smoothly said, quickly leaving the room.

When she was out of sight, Logan walked closer to the man's desk. "Who was that?" He asked the professor.

"A new student." The professor lied. It was the first time, in years that he had lied.

The man who went with the name of Wolverine rolled his eyes. He quickly light up a cigar, and the professor scowled at him. "Not inside the office, please." He told him.

"You know, I just do it to annoy you." He joked, putting the cigar down. "It's about the sentinel services. They just spotted a girl in the outskirts of New York. They had a call from a nurse that said that the girl had showed up from nowhere, they thought she was a mutant." Logan explained to him.

Nayara quietly, stood outside the office. She was surprised she head the professor use the name previously stablished before the comics changed it to his new full name: James Howlett in earlier versions. She knew the man as Logan, and if it was up to her, she will continue calling him that.

A man with blue fur and glasses walked past Nayara. From the corner of her eye she saw Jean carrying a metal tray. She was stopped quickly by a woman who Nayara presumed was someone who had more talent than Jean Grey. The white clothes gave her away.

Jean glared at the woman. "What do you want, Frost?" She asked the woman.

"I need to talk to Xavier, it's urgent." The woman said, her heels clicking the tile floor as she followed Jean.

"Well he isn't here." Jean lied to her.

Nayara rolled her eyes. "Actually, he is right inside. He is just talking to...someone." Nayara interrupted, sending a big smile to blonde in front of her. "Those are lovely heels." She commented. Emma send the girl a small smile while looking at her.

"Thank you." She told her.

"She is just lying." Jean said, giving a slight head ache to Nayara, making her drop her the bag she was holding. Nayara held back a hiss, trying to ignore the seizing pain. "Right...Nayara..." She said.

Nayara put her head tall, sending a pleading look to Emma. Who silently used her telepathic power to remove the headache from her, and protecting the girl's mind. "No, I'm not. He right through those doors." Nayara replied with a soft voice.

Emma slightly glare at Jean before knocking on the big wooden doors. Before the blonde could enter, Nayara stopped her.

"Thank you." Nayara whispered to Emma before she entered the room. She remained silent as Jean stood in front of her.

"Why can't I enter your mind?" Jean asked her.

Nayara shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe you aren't as powerful as you believe to be." Nayara told her quietly, ignoring her. Little did she knew that the blonde woman who had entered was silently helping the girl, but she had witnessed at first sight what Jean Grey was capable of doing to people who she didn't trust.

. . .

Nayara followed Ororo through the halls quietly. The brunette was surprised to hear that Professor X agreed to help her, by also giving her a way to help her. She followed the woman across the halls while watching how some of the students practiced and played with their powers.

She hesitated a few seconds before starting a conversation with the former X-Men member. "I'm sorry I lied when I entered. I just...needed help...a-and I didn't know where to go except this place." Nayara said.

"Why here?" Ororo asked her, looking at her from over her shoulder.

"Because it filled with kind people...and because it was the only place where I knew I will get help without being put in jail or tortured." She replied. Her answer shocked Ororo. "It's very complicated, and if I were to go to somewhere else...then...I would have been in trouble. If I were to explain it to you, you will be surprised." She told her with all honesty. Ororo could see it in her eyes. "I knew the Professor was a mutant, just like you. I knew that if he didn't trust me, he could use his powers to see it himself." Nayara informed her.

Ororo opened the door to the bedroom, and let her pass. It was in the furthest spot from most of the students and classes. She let the girl set her backpack down. "This is your room. You can stay here as long as you want." Ororo told the girl.

The girl remained quiet. Ororo looked at her a few seconds before speaking. "Who would have put you in jail?" Ororo asked her. She could see the worry shown in the eyes of the girl.

"Police, if they were to know I basically don't exist in this world. It would have been the Sentinel Services, but I...I am not mutant. I wish though. It will be beautiful to have a gift to help others with. Anything." She said to her. "I-I know you are Storm. I knew Professor X or Charles Xavier was here because...in my world you were legends. I sound a little bit insane, but it is the honest truth."

"That's why you wanted Charles to help you, because nobody would have believed you." Ororo told her. The girl looked down. "It does sound a little bit insane, but it is possible...and you will be okay here." Ororo told her before closing the door.

Ororo stopped half way when she heard Nayara's voice. "Thank you." Nayara replied, holding back comments of admiration from the former X-Men who knew - if it hadn't happen yet - will marry T'Challa King of Wakanda.

. . .

It was two in the morning when Nayara had woken up from a nightmare. When she woke up, she called out for her mother. It was in vane. When her eyes settled down on her surroundings, she realize that she wasn't dreaming.

She sighed, hoping that it was some weird dream of dreaming inside one dream. She was wrong.

The girl felt her throat dried, and she decided to make her way to the kitchen. She walked down the numerous halls, until she found it. When she saw it, she stopped at the edge of the entrance, hearing different voices.

"The Brotherhood has attacked again." Someone said, from inside the kitchen. She frowned at the mention of the name of the separatist mutant group, which involved one of Magneto's children.

Wolverine walked to the middle of the table, picking up some of the footage that Beast had printed out from security footage. It was Emma's Frost to talk. "They are planning on working along side the Hellfire group." Emma told them.

"And I'm not surprised you know that personally, right Frost?" Wolverine replied.

"Well-" She started, but was cut off by the sound of thoughts. She knew it was from nobody's in the room, and she gathered it was from somebody outside. She remained quiet, listening to the thoughts, while the rest talked.

"We first have to figure out to big that man with the brick helmet. Even Wolverine can't with him." Scott joked, earning a small growl from the mentioned hero.

"Don't test me, Summers." James replied.

Emma chuckled, but hide it quickly faking a cough. Wolverine narrowed the eyes at her. The woman had heard the thoughts of Nayara: Like anybody could beat Wolverine, he is indestructible.

Nayara sighed, deciding to help the heroes. If she was stuck in the world, at least she could use her knowledge to her advantage. "Actually, you kind. You just have to remove the helmet, then he is done." Nayara said entering the kitchen.

Emma looked at her, recognazign the voice of her mysterious thoughts. "Who are you?" She asked the girl.

"Nayara Lilly, at your service." She said, faking a small bow.

"She was spying." Jean said.

"No, I was trying to go and get a glass of water, but you were taking the entire kitchen."Nayara replied to the girl.

"You are letting a traitor inside, professor." Jean told the Professor.

Nayara held back her a snarky reply about Jean just being bitter because Scott Summer was more in love with Emma Frost than with her. Nayara sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm no traitor. I just study people. You should also but some trap for Quicksilver, he tends to run quick fast, but he brain doesn't go that quick. If you distract him, he will quickly fall. Juggernaut is easy, the helmet and he is down for...and for Toad, you take a hold of his tongue, and pull it as hard as you kind. He hates that." Nayara informed them.

"What do you have against them?" Beast asked her.

Nayara gave him a kind smile. "Because there are damaging the reputation fo good mutants. They are making people see mutants as a threat, when they aren't." Nayara said before slowly walking away. Emma called out her name. She passed her a glass of water, and nayara thanked her.

Nayara silently walked away, while the Professor X nodded in approval. "How does she have more information than us?" Scott asked.

"Because she is different." Xavier replied. "And she will help us without a second thought...and that's why we should do the same." Xavier said, looking out the window.
