11. You can dance to anything

Dream a little dream of me-Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

***play the song later***

We sat in his room playing UNO till it started to become dark outside.
It was around 7 pm now and the rain slowly started to stop.

"UNO", Brendon said smiling at his last card.

I laid my red 7 over the blue 7 and Brendon sighed.

"Thanks", he mumbled taking another card, which made him sigh again.

I smiled and laid my red 8 over the cards because Brendon couldn't. He took another card and shook his head.
I only had two more cards left and laid the yellow 8.

"UNO", I said grinning.

Brendon smiled at the sight of the card he just took.
He laid his yellow 0 proudly over my yellow 8.

I just had the 'wish for a color'-card which I laid down.
Brendon pressed his lips together and groaned.

"I won", I said victoriously.

Brendon rolled his eyes but I saw a small smile appearing on his face.

"The rain stopped and it's getting dark outside. I think I should go", I said after we put the cards back in its packaging.

"Oh, right. Uhm, I'll go with you", Brendon said scratching his neck.

"You don't have to go with me."

"It's pretty dark outside and I don't wanna let you walk alone in the dark."

"Uhm, but you have to walk back alone", I said already feeling my cheeks burning.

"Nah, it's ok, but I insist on walking you home."

I had the feeling of the popping soft candys in my stomach again which made me smile a little bit.

"Yeah, uhm. Ok, sure", I said looking down to hide my red cheeks.

We both went downstairs to the door.

"What about your clothes?", I asked pointing at the t-shirt I had on.

"You can keep them", he said smiling.

I just nod with a little grin and put on my shoes. After we made ourselves ready, we went outside finding a nearly dark world. The sun was still falling over the horizon.

We slowly walked and walked to my house.

"Is Susan alright again?", he asked after a while.
I looked at him and saw his hair waving in the wind. He had his eyes locked on the ground while we walked.

"What shouldn't be alright with her?", I asked with a chuckle.

"You told me she got into an accident and her arm got a deep cut."

"Oh, right. She's alright", I said, "and your family member?"

"Uhm, yeah, she's alright", he said but I saw something in his eyes that fade. Did he lie? Maybe he doesn't wanna talk about it so I searched for a topic we could talk about, but Brendon was faster.

"Why do you have such a heavy blood phobia?", he asked, "I mean your face went pale, eventhough my hand just got a small cut."

There wasn't a reason. One day my father just got a deep cut, while we were moving in in our new house. He bled really heavy and I never wanna see that again.

"I just don't like the sight of blood, I mean, some people can't see blood, don't have to mean they have a reason", I said. Maybe that's the reason why, even though it wasn't a horrible memory, just one you don't wanna have in your head.

"You're right, but I know many people who can't see blood, but their phobia isn't as heavy as yours. I just thought maybe there was a reason", he said, "but nevermind."

Again, the silence.

"You can play the guitar really good. Who thaught you?", he asked again and thank god, I was happy he cold think of topics. Unfortunately I really didn't wanna talk about this. It reminded me too much of home.

"My dad. He always played it and I loved to hear him play. One day he gave me the guitar, I was around six, and I was like the happiest kid. I immediately wanted to learn how to play it and my dad taught me till I was ten. Since then I learned everything by myself. How to play my favourite songs and how to write my own. It's like a big part of my soul, you know?", I explained having my dad playing right in front of my eyes. I felt my neck tightening and water building up in my eyes.

"Wow, then you had a pretty cool da- is everything ok?", he asked looking worried at me. I didn't realise a tear rolled down my cheek.
I just miss my parents so frickin much.

"Yeah, just, nevermind", I mumbled wiping my tear away.

"Is it about your dad?", he asked slowly.

I just shrugged. It wasn't really just about him. It was the whole situation. My family.

"It's ok, my dad also isn't around. He left us when I was eight. Didn't want us as his family anymore. But I got trough it. I think I had to be ok, I had to take care of my mom", he said with a sad smile.

"I'm sorry. No, he is around, but at the same time he isn't. It's just so complicated", I said really not knowing how else to explain it. I couldn't just tell him that my parents are right now pregnant with me and don't even know me. I mean, it would sound weird, right?

"Yeah, I understand. Sorry for bringing this up", he apologised.

"No, it's ok, you couldn't know it, right?"

It started to rain again and we still had to walk 10 minutes home.
We came across a wide park were music was played.
It was Blue Moon by Billie Holiday. A very old but beautiful song.

I saw people dancing and laughing next to each other. There weren't many people but I just smiled. The sun stood right on the horizon and drowned the world around in a beautiful warm yellow shade.

Brendon and I just stood there and stared. Stared at the laughing and dancing people who just seemed to be happy.
Couples who danced with each other, holding hands.

"C'mon guys, don't stare, join us!", a woman with deep blue eyes said walking to us.

"No, we just want go home", I said taking a step back. I can't dance. Really. I look like a stick that just can't move smoothly while dancing.

"Oh! Come on, we won't bite", the woman said grabbing our wrists and pulled us to the many people. I was kinda scared of her, but I think she was just happy. She smiled and laughed and danced like the other people here. They were old, young, middle aged. Toddlers, teenagers, adults and seniors.

Weird that you're scared of someone who is just happy.
It isn't normal anymore to see so many happy people at one place.
Sad, actually.

I looked at Brendon who just smiled watching couples and kids dance. His eyes lit up and I could swear I saw a sparkle in them. He has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.

"Are you just going to stare or do you wanna dance?", he asked not turning around, but I saw a little smirk appearing on his face.

"Dance? To this music? This isn't dance music", I said chuckling. This music was beautiful but the only thing you could dance were couple dances. That's what the most people did here.

"You can dance to anything", he said smiling, "this song is just slower."

My cheeks began to burn so I had to lock my eyes on the ground.

The song ended and I sighed in relieve.
I hoped now it would play a dancy song.

***Play the song***

I gulped when I heard the song play. It was one of my favourites. When I was a kid I always danced in my own room and imagined a handsome guy would hold me in my arms while dancing.

I lifted my head when I felt Brendon taking a step forward.
He smiled at me and his eyes also did. The sparkle wasn't gone.
What was he doing? He just stood there obviously unsure of what to do next.
So I did the next step. I laid my hands on his waist pulling him closer to me.

His eyes widened a little bit, but he put his hands behind my neck. We both smiled a little bit and didn't loose the eye contact.
We started dancing by taking or steps to the rhythm of the music.
Brendons eyes wandered to the ground.

"Are my shoes more interesting than me?", I asked amused.

He just chuckled and looked up.
His cheeks red as tomatoes but I didn't look better at that moment. I mean, nothing looked better in that moment than seeing this boy smiling and blushing at me.

"My mum used to sing this song when I was a kid. She has a beautiful voice. Everytime when something bothered me or I was hurt she sang it to me", he said pressing his lips together smiling.

"I used to dance in my own room to this song alone. It was the favourite song of my mother", I said. I didn't know why I used the simple past but it seemed right. I mean the mother I know isn't there right now.

Like I said, I can't dance, so I stepped on Brendons feed a few times.

"Sorry", I mumbled.

"No problem, I'm used to this", he chuckled.

"You're used to this?", I asked.

"I teach my sister how to dance, because she wants to dance perfectly on prom. And she always trips over my feed."

The rain turned out to be a slight drizzle, but it didn't bother me.

"Then she learns from the best. You are a really good dancer."

"Thanks."

I looked over his shoulder and saw the sunset. The bright yellow color colored the whole field.

"What are you looking at?", he asked.

"The sunset."

He smiled. He smiled bright. Like the sun did while she fall.

"You're staring again", he said smirking.

"Maybe."

The song got to an end and everyone clapped. Not for us. For everyone. I think nobody really noticed that were two boys that just danced together. Or at least nobody really seemed to care.

"I think we should go now, or my mom will worry why I'm not back home", brendon said.

"Yeah, you're right."

We walked to my house and talked much. We also laughed and it was a good feeling. Laughing.

"Soo, we're here", I said standing in front of my house.

"Right, it was nice today with you", Brendon said smiling. The rain started to become heavier every minute.

"I also enjoyed it."

We just stood there awkwardly and smiled.

"I will go now", I said not knowing what to do now. Was this a date? Or just a hang out with a friend? Should I give him a kiss? Or a hug?

"Ok, bye, Ryan. See you tomorrow!", he said waving his hand before walking away.

I just watched him go while standing in the rain. But I didn't care about the rain. I just cared about the boy walking away.

******

"And...?", Susan asked with a smirk on her face.

"What 'and'?"

"How did it go?"

"Good, I guess", I said not wanting to go too deep into the details.

"Oh come on!"

"It started raining so we went to his house. We played UNO. Then we walked home. Nothing else happened", I said leaving the dance out.

"If you say so", she said obviously disappointed about my answers,"but that aren't your clothes."

"No, that are brendons. Like I said, it rained."

"And when do you have to bring then to him again?", she asked.

"He said I can keep them", I said already regretting it.

"Ha! I knew it! He likes you!", she nearly screamed pointing at me.

"Woah, Susan! Calm down! I also own a few shirts of Spencer", I defended myself.

"Yeah, but you guys are best friends! And you know brendon just for like one month."

I just sighed and walked to my room wanting to go to bed.
This day was very eventful and I had to smile thinking of it.

So began drifting into sleep while hoping he would dream a little dream of me.

****

"And? Will you come?", Breezy asked me.

"To what?"

"To my party tomorrow!", She sighed.

Oh, right. I totally forgot the party but I just nodded. I mean, why not? She's nice and going to a party would probably fine.

"If you want to you can also invite your friends, like Susan, Spencer and the rest."

"Uh, yeah, sure. I'll ask them."

"Good! I really look forward to tomorrow! It won't be a very big party but a simple one with my friends. And the best thing is that my parents are gone tomorrow so we'll have the whole house for ourselves. Great, right?", She said excitingly.

"Yeah, that's really pretty cool", I said while walking with her to our next class, "but can you give me your address?"

"Oh, I totally forgot. Sorry", she said and scribbles something on a piece of paper which she gave to me.

"Thanks."

******

I walked after class to the cafeterie, but I heard my name being called by someone behind me.

"Ryan!"

I turned around seeing Brendon who waved his hand at me.
He walked over to me smiling.

"Hey Brendon", I said smiling back. Today he had his lavender hoodie on again. He really loves this one.

"Here are your clothes. Don't worry we washed them", he said handing me a t-shirt and my black skinny jeans back.

"Oh, thanks. I already forgot them."

We just smiled and talked while joining our friends at our cafeteria place.

*****

"Breezy asked me if you guys wanna come to her party tomorrow", I said. Spencer, Susan and the Ways sat with me in the living room.

"I can't", Susan said.

"Why? You don't have anything to do tomorrow."

"That's true. I don't wanna go", she said standing up to go to her room, "I would rather practise a little bit more."

I sighed and looked at the rest of the group.

"Will Frank come?", Gerard asked, "I'm just asking."

"Yeah, I already asked him. He, Jon, Josh, Tyler and Ray will also come."

"Then I'm in", gerard said.

"I'll also come", Mikey said.

"What's with you spencer?", I asked because he just stared at the clock ticking at the wall.

"I don't know yet.", He mumbled.

"Is everything alright?", I asked looking worried at him. He likes partys. He was always the excited one when I comes to partys.

"Yeah", he said not taking his eyes from the clock.

"Spencer", I said slowly knowing he lied to me.

"I think we both should get to our house now. It's getting dark and I don't wanna miss SpongeBob SquarePants on tv, so bye", Gerard said grabbing Mikey's wrist and walked out.

"Spencer, I know you're lying to me. What's up? You know you can tell me everything", I said sitting next to him.

"We shouldn't do this. I'm worried", he silently said.

"I'm also worried, Spencer. This is a whole new world for us, but we have to enjoy the time here before it's over", I said.

"That's not what I meant, Ryan."

I furrowed my eyebrows not knowing what he really meant.

"Then why are you worried?", I asked.

"I'm worried about you.... And about the others but expectically about you."

"Why expectically about me?", I asked.

"You know that we won't stay here forever. Every connection we make here will get lost", he said calmly.

"I don't get it."

"Ryan, the people we meet now and like. We have to leave them."

With this words he stood up wanting to go upstairs but before he really went away he said: "be careful."

I just nodded and gulbed. I knew what he meant and it hit me like a truck. I haven't thought of this yet. I felt my throat becoming thighter the more I think of it. The thought strangulates me.

When we leave we won't only have to leave this place. We have to leave the people.

But I don't wanna leave Brendon.

***"**

Sorry that this chapter is a bit shorter than normal but I wanted to end it like this to make it more dramatically, ya know?
