23// Kidnapped

When Stanford starts crying, Dipper immediately turns and rushes out of the room. You instinctively follow him, Mabel at your heels. "Yasmin, wait!" Pacifica calls after you. But you ignore her. You can only hear Stanford's wailing in your ears as disjointed, catastrophic images tumble through your mind's eye.

"Let go of my son you—"

"Careful! You wouldn't want me to drop him, would you?"

Your heart sinks to the floor as your fear is confirmed. Will is here. Will is here, and he has Stanford. He went straight to stealing babies, as if on a mission to prove how villainous he can be.

You make it to the kitchen right after Dipper, with only a split second to take in the scene — Will holding Stanford, Wendy in fighting position — before Dipper joins the fray, immediately trying to take back the baby. Will dodges him, handing Stanford off to a copy of himself that just appeared. More copies of Will fill the room. They hold Dipper and Wendy back, though it takes three Wills to detain each parent. Both married Pines are fighting hard to rescue their son.

Mabel jumps into the fight, but more Wills appear to restrain her. Pacifica enters the room, and copies of Will restrain her, too. "I can keep doing this all day," says the central Will — the one holding Stanford. "Do you want to try, Yasmin?"

You try to swallow, but there's a lump in your throat. "D-d-don't hurt them," you force out. "Don't h-hurt the baby."

Will glances down at Stanford. "Oh, I wasn't planning on hurting him. He didn't do anything to me." His gaze travels to Dipper, who's pinned to the wall by three copies. "But you did."

Dipper struggles against his captors. "So put him down! Your problem is with me."

"Yes," Will says, "but I don't trust you. So I think I'll keep hold of Fordsie here for leverage. I said I'm not planning on hurting him." He fixes Dipper with a hard stare. "Don't change my plans."

Wendy redoubles her efforts against her captors, fighting against them with the strength only a scared, angry mother can have. More Wills appear, forcing her to the ground. "Don't think I've forgotten about you," the central Will remarks. "How do you like me near your baby now?"

"Will!" you shout. A copy of Will appears right beside you, making you jump. He takes your wrist, a reminder that if you try anything, you won't succeed. You force yourself to ignore him and focus on the central Will. "Will, stop! You're right, we hurt you, and we're—" You bite your lip. "I'm sorry. But you can't just — you c-can't hurt people just because they hurt you!"

Will gives you a look of patronizing pity. "How naïve. Yes I can. What am I doing right now?"

You stare at him in horror.

After a moment, he answers his own question. "Actually, I'm not hurting anyone right now," he says. "I'm being merciful that way. But I want something, and I won't hesitate to start hurting people if I don't get it."

"What do you want." Dipper's glare seems like it could burn through steel.

Stanford starts crying again — probably from the look on his father's face — and Will shoves his binky in his mouth. "I want your dimension hopper," he tells Dipper.

"No," Dipper says immediately. "Absolutely not."

"Even if something happened to your son?" Will asks.

Now, real fear appears on Dipper's face. Will doesn't seem to be bluffing.

"W-Will," you stammer. "Wh-why would you n-need the dimension hopper?"

The Will holding your wrist laughs, and it once again startles you. "Why else?" he asks. "You people have been less than hospitable since I came here. But I got thinking out there in the forest, and I realized you weren't the real problem. And I don't need your hospitality, anyway."

"What do you mean, we're not the real problem?" Dipper asks warily.

"Oh, you're definitely a part of it," Will assures him. A copy of him that's holding Mabel gives her a little kick. "But she's the real problem. Or, a version of her."

Oh, no. Mabel Gleeful. He wants to go after the Gleefuls.

Well. . . can you blame him? Who wouldn't want to go after the Gleefuls after what they did?

"Ah! There it is." Will's copies let go of Wendy, who scrambles to her feet, and the central Will offers Stanford to her. Wendy immediately snatches her baby into her arms. "Pleasure doing business with you," Will says to Dipper.

Dipper frowns at him in confusion. "What do you. . . ?" His eyes widen as he answers his own question. "You found the dimension hopper."

Your heart pounds as you realize what that means. Will created a copy of himself to go downstairs and get the dimension hopper, while you all were distracted up here.

A copy of Will enters the room, waving the dimension hopper in one hand. "Yep," he says. "I just wanted to distract you — and repay you a bit for your prejudice against me. Keep your kid. He doesn't matter to me."

Suddenly, you feel hands grabbing your arms. Two or three Wills are around you now, each one keeping ahold of you.

"Yasmin does, though," Will continues, speaking from the version of himself that holds the dimension hopper. "I think I'll take her with me."

Your eyes immediately meet those of your mother's. Her face is drawn in fear, and she fights against her captors. "No! You leave her alone!"

"W-Will," you manage, meeting the eyes of one but painfully aware of all the others, "you don't n-need me. You h-have what you w-w-want. R-right?"

"Not yet," Will says. The copy that holds the dimension hopper strides forward and puts a hand on your arm. Then he lifts the dimension hopper and, while everyone watches, types in the location. The adults all start yelling, Stanford starts screaming, you're probably babbling something — but you feel removed from all that.

Will's going back to the dimension from which he just escaped. And he's taking you with him. Why is he taking you with him? What is he going to do with you? Fear courses through your body, and you feel like you might be sick.

"All ready," Will says. Every copy of him, except the one holding the dimension hopper, disappears. Everyone is free now — but before anyone can react, Will presses a button on the dimension hopper.

The world bursts into color, and the last thing you hear is your mother screaming your name.
