Thin Air
Her hair flashed at the edge of my vision, liquid gold slipping through my fingertips. I ran after her, internally screaming with all of my being to stop, begging her to pause for just a second. She glanced at me for just a second, and smiled an amused, impish smile, a smile that says why haven't you caught up yet? Can you? I ran and ran, my feet not hurting one bit, just wanting to reach my goal, the only thing that mattered. She stopped. And turned. Cold blue eyes bored into mine. I was frozen. Mesmerized. Then she disappeared, like a magicians last act, making a rabbit disappear, and you know he's under the table, but this time, there's nothing there but thin air. This time, I know that I'll never see her again.
