It was the 1st of December, the first Sunday of the December.

It was the day to put up the Christmas tree and all the Christmas decorations you'd place up in your home. It was an tradition for Mikasa, her family had always put up the decorations the first weekend of December.

It's one she's always wanted to keep after she lost them. The Yeager's were nice enough to wait for the first weekend of December to put up their decorations the first two years they had taken her in. But the spirit was never there with them, it always left Mikasa thinking over the parents she had lost. By the third year, they'd dropped the tradition and just put up the decorations whenever the family had time.

Years later, Mikasa fell in love with someone who wasn't the most charming but once he knew how important something was, he'd cherish it greatly.

Levi might complain but he was always leaving the first Sunday of December free to put up the decorations with her.

Her family tradition was being done by family once more and it brought her great happiness.

She's always wanted to return such a joyful experience, to give him his own special Christmas tradition.

So, she took a risk this year. She had taken his mother's old handkerchief and used her sewing skills to turn it into an angel. Creating an cone with some cardboard from an opened parcel box and creating an Christmas tree topper with it all.

Letting her wonderful boyfriend have his own attachment to family at Christmas, to be able to still spend Christmas with his mother.

She just hoped he wouldn't murder her for using one of the few things he had left of his mother.

"All done?" Mikasa asked as she turned round, having finished putting up the last ceiling foil Christmas decorations.

"It's acceptable" Levi announced as he stood with his arms crossed over his stomach and his eyes admiring his fancy decorated tree that looked more like a showroom tree than an family Christmas tree.

"It looks perfect. Something you'd find in a glorious fairy tale book. The perfect tree in those holiday movies, that look unreal. It's magical" Mikasa praises as she hugs him from behind, admiring his work.

"It's neat and tidy. Unlike the rest of our home" Levi scoffed as he glanced over his free shoulder to the rest of their living room, clearly judging his girlfriend's decorating skills.

Mikasa rolled her eyes, stepping back and slipping her arms free from him. Use to the same argument every year and not as tired from it as she may act to be. She liked their holiday argument over their different style of decorations for Christmas.

"I let you have the tree. Don't push your luck with the rest of our house. It's amazing" Mikasa told him firmly as she walked towards the Christmas decorations box tucked beside their couch, kept out of the way of them tripping over it but easily access to grab what they need.

"It looks like a toddler was let lose on it with a box of Christmas decorations" Levi complained as he turned around, taking in all the bright and unmatching colourful decorations filling their living room.

"Mentioning our thoughts on each other's departments, the tree isn't finished. It's missing something" Mikasa casually perked up as she eyed his tree, tilting her head and seeming disappointed over it.

"It looks as good as it always do. What shit are you talking about?" Levi snapped back, insulted for his tree's sake.

"Something is clearly not right with it" Mikasa pointed out with a small frown as she grabbed something kept out of sight behind the Christmas decoration box.

"Don't insult my tree. It's perfect. The best part of our Christmas decorations" Levi defended his tree as he headed over to her, not understanding what she found wrong with his tree when it was brilliant.

"Here. I think this might finish the tree beautifully" Mikasa smirked back as she spun round to face him, holing something out to him.

Levi raising an questionable eyebrow before accepting the candy cane stripped square box. Giving it a light shake in his hands before removing the list with only slight hesitation. Noticing Mikasa's excited glint in her eyes had gave him the final push to fully remove the lid. Glancing down and staring in awe at the object tucked inside.

A handmade angel, a beautifully crafted one.

It held a long white dress with golden wings and strands of black wool for hair. The face was cardboard like the body cone underneath the sewn dress and wings.

It was stunning and it was comforting.

He was left surprised when a faded memory of his mother came to mind, he'd always saw her as an angel, she was always trying her best to give him a better life and make him happy and safe.

Lifting his gaze from the tree topper towards his girlfriend, stunned over such a breath taking gift and knowing she had made it for him. No words able to leave his lips as he was let speechless even when he had wanted to shower her in compliments and praise.

"You may grow mad but I used-" Mikasa started to say with an guilty frown, worried how he may react as she tells him over what the dress was made from. Falling silent as she's cut off by Levi speaking over her.

"My mother's handkerchief for the dress. I recognized the butterflies fluttering their wings around the ends" Levi finished off for her, already realizing it as he gently picked up the angel and recognizing what the dress was made from straight away. His mother would always throw the handkerchief in the air, pretending the butterflies were flying as it falls back down.

"I kept them on purpose. Knew it might make you think of her. To be able to have her here with us for each and every Christmas we have together" Mikasa admitted with a sweet smile as she stepped over to him, ready to be his support if he needed it.

"You did this for me?" Levi quietly asked, lifting his gaze towards her and showing just how warm his gaze had grown to be.

"You helped me to my family tradition alive. I wanted to give you one. To keep our parents alive and able to join us for Christmas" Mikasa explained with an gentle smile as she took hold of his free hand, lacing their fingers together and giving their joint hands a comforting squeeze.

"Thank you. It's precious" Levi chokes out, voice breaking as he fills with warmth and a rush of touched emotions.

"And it'd be the perfect final touch to our tree" Mikasa announces with a huge grin as she turns her head back towards looking to the top of the tree, the top branch left empty as always.

"It'd be the perfect final touch to our Christmas. To our every Christmas for the rest of our lives" Levi confesses with a smirk, squeezing their joint hands as he wanted to share this moment every first weekend of December for the rest of their lives.
