Why (Achievement #26 = 2 points)

Why?

Why would you ask me to write about my least favourite chore.

When the list, is as long, as my weary arms.

Aching from all that dusting, vacuuming, polishing, washing, cooking and ironing.

I hate them all.

Even though I have to eat and my home has to be clean and tidy.

It's written in my genes .

My father was a Sargent Major.

Who lined us like troops for inspection.

And drilled us on the work we had to do.

My mother an unpaid house keeper for a family of brothers.

Her father a merchant sailor.

With a mother disabled and terminally ill.

Her ambition was to ensure that her sons future wife's would not suffer.

By marrying a useless husband.

But I do remember that on washing day we walked an emotional nightmare.

So, it's fair to say that memories of that chore, still fill me full of dread.

Even so, ironing is my pet hate, for I must ensure that every crease is gone.
