The sun beneath the edge of the Earth

is sinking, sinking, giving way to night.

Ebony, Night Angel, spreads her raven wings

horizon to horizon. Away with sunlight!

A world, weary from the working day, retires,

and settles under Ebony's sable blanket.

Some to rest and dream, others waken to work

in a dusky world so night-enchanted.

Ebony calls the shy stars out to glimmer,

glint, and scintillate—the heavens' bling.

The moon is brightest of them all,

shadows that moonlight bright will bring.

Nightly hours stream gently by,

until the dawn the new days sun brings.

The night retires, for day is come,

when Ebony folds her raven wings.
