ii. Homesick

"Y/N!" Tony screamed as he reached out for you. You were laying on your side, unconscious. The last time he saw you, you were falling from the sky... and now you were in the middle of debris.

He ran to your side, praying you'd be alright. Oh, god please let her be alright, he thought.

"Honey?" He turned your body so you'd be laying on your back, still praying silently. But he gasped when he saw you; nose bleeding and probably broken, face all bloody, body bruised - you weren't in a great state.

"Y/N?" He whispered, afraid. Afraid you wouldn't answer. "Y/N."

When his fears came true, his whole body shook in fright and his anxiety blasted to the max.

"Y/N, baby!" He was screaming and he didn't care, it wasn't true. Nightmares can't come true like this. No, this couldn't be it. You were alive! Not dead.

"Not dead..." he echoed his thoughts.

Suddenly, a big blast shook the ground. It was a bomb, and it wasn't that far from where the both of you were. Tony needed to get out of there - fast.

"Stark! We need to move!" It was Natasha, who had found him kneeling beside what she knew was something she feared. "Tony?"

His eyes were wide, and his breathing abnormal. As soon as he felt Natasha's hand on his shoulder, he squeezed his eyes shut.

"Go away!" He yelled. "This is all a dream..."

Another bomb blew, closer to them.

Natasha tried to force her own feelings away, prioritising her panicked friend. "Tony, she's not breathing. This isn't a dream, we need to get out of-"

"DON'T TOUCH ME!" he sobbed, pushing her hand away and he desperately tried to wake you, shaking your body vigorously. "You can't feel things in dreams!"

Natasha didn't take it to heart, and all she wanted to do in the moment was hold him to her chest. But right now, she couldn't afford to be a friend. She needed to be the Black Widow. Just for now.

Right then, their jet hovered by, ready to for them to haul ass and get the hell out of there.

"Stark! You need to move! And that is a command," She used all her strength to push him away from your body.

All he could remember was getting pushed in the jet, and flying away from you.

Tony woke up screaming, covered in sheer sweat. He wiped his eyes, and his tear-stained cheeks. He was having another flashback to when he found you... and lost you on the same day.

He was shaking, as if he was outside during winter and forgot to bring a coat. He woke up hurriedly, swinging his legs over to stand. Subconsciously, he made his way to the kitchen, where he ransacked the cabinet for wine.

It had been almost two months since his daughter's death, and he couldn't stop thinking about it.

He sat on the counter, downing the last bottle of wine. He didn't care if it would damage him, he was already broken enough. In all his years as Iron Man, he had fought many villains - but his mind was his worst enemy.

That day... the day he found you. You had been kidnapped by Hydra and the team set out for a rescue mission. They found you, and all had been well, and Tony had you in his arms - safe.

But the monsters took you away from him again, and all hell broke loose.

"No!" Tony charged his repulsors, ready to fire them at the agents in front of him. "FRIDAY! Keep track of her!"

"Yes, boss." The A.I said, doing as she was told. Tony fought the two men easily, then made his way to you.

"Dad!" You were trashing around, trying to get away from the men taking you away to whoever knows where. You had been heavily sedated and your limbs weren't cooperating that well. "Dad, over here!"

The men seemed like they were enhanced, their movements much more swifter than the average human.

Tony tried to fly faster, shooting blasts in your direction, aiming for the men. But they dodged it every time, and he was starting to feel useless.

The others were preoccupied with fighting the army Hydra had sent over, and they didn't notice what was going on.

"Steve! Where are you?"

"Stark. What's wrong?"

"They took Y/N, I can't reach her."

Steve had immediately searched for you, just as worried as Stark was. "I need eyes on her! Sam!"

"Got it!"

It was 3 in the morning, and by this time you would usually wake up and start ransacking the fridge for a midnight snack. He'd hear the racket you'd make, and make his way over to join you. He missed everything about that.

Tony Stark was homesick. All he wanted was to hug you again. Smell the top of your head.

They were too late.

The strange men had climbed into a helicopter, and flew it with you in it.

Tony could feel his heart stop.

"What do we do?" He was frozen. "We can't shoot them down, she's in there!"

His nerves kicked in and he chased after them, desperate.

Steve couldn't do anything but watch from the ground, "Everyone up there, keep an eye on that helicopter!"

Dark, scary thoughts filled Tony's mind. What if he doesn't make it? What if this was the last time he'd see you? This was all my fault. I should've tried harder.

But then suddenly he heard a scream, and then he saw a body being thrown out of the helicopter.

You.

He immediately chased after you, but everything felt like slow-motion. Sam followed suit, trying to swoop you up.

Tony gasped, looking down to see his bottle of wine shattered on the ground, a pool of red around it.

But he could care less.
