i. Tears

He couldn't believe it.

"Tony?"

"Tony. Look at me."

James waved his hand in front of his face, hoping to catch his attention. When it did, he turned to him with the saddest eyes.

He couldn't bare to see him like this. The whole team was in pain, but no one could ever understand what Tony was going through.

"I lost her, Rhodes." He said, no sign of emotion on his face except for his glassy eyes. "I lost my baby girl." His voice cracked at the end.

James let out a long sigh, trying to force down the lump in his throat. He sat himself down next to him on the church bench. They were the only ones left inside. It was a private service, only family and friends.

"I'm sorry," he wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "I...I'm here for you, Tony."

It was so out of character for the goateed man to lean on his shoulder and cry. But at this point, he didn't care. James would do anything for his friend- anything to help him feel at least slightly better.

James rubbed Tony's shoulder, shedding a few tears for himself in the moment. It was a dreadful day for all of them. A day to mark a loss.

A day they say goodbye to Y/N Stark.

"Come on, now." Tony took a moment to compose himself before they both stood up to make their way outside.

"The team's outside."

Tony nodded, wiping his eyes with the corner of his sleeve. He didn't think about anything else- couldn't. The only thing on his mind was you. He didn't want to forget your face, or your smile. And god, no, never your voice. He wanted so badly to hold on to your being.

He was only eager to get home.

But what was home without you?
