Chapter XI: Summer
(Y/N) was still perched on the tower, calmly standing there as he looked at his immense Grimm army from above. Before he heard footsteps approaching him from behind, he turned quickly to see Lilith there. She stopped to curtsey towards him, he fixed his loose tie and approached her in turn.
(Y/N): "Do you have something for me, Lily?"
He asked.
Lilith: "It's Amber, she's done with the Summer Maiden. The little girl and her are waiting for you at your throne room."
Lilith informed, (Y/N) nodded at her and proceeded down the tower. Lilith following closely behind him.
As they made their way to his throne room, their footsteps echoed throughout the empty palace's superstructure.
Lilith: "I find it weird I never asked you this..."
(Y/N): "Ask away."
He immediately replied.
Lilith: "After this world is fallen, what will be our future?"
He stopped, turning to look at her to connect with her more.
(Y/N): "Our future?"
Lilith: "Yes. Sometimes one can take a break from ruling the world."
(Y/N): "I-I've never given it much thought. Retirement would definitely be peaceful."
Lilith: "I've given it a lot of thought lately. You'll never age, I will. Eventually, you'll be alone. Ruling over not much else but an unthinking army."
Lilith for once, sounded a little fearful. More than concerned.
(Y/N): "Yes. Yes I would. But we can always make what time we have count."
He said.
Lilith: "I would definitely like that. My prince."
She flirtatiously said. Earning a slight laugh from (Y/N). They continued on walking until eventually, the pair arrived at the entrance.
(Y/N) and Lilith worked together to push open the massive doors to the massive room. Giving way to the familiar dimly lit room, the skylights cast the pale moonlight onto the carpet headed to (Y/N)'s throne. There on the carpet, was Amber Zarrick and the mentally rejuvenated Summer Maiden.
(Y/N): "Amber, is her amnesia cured?"
Amber: "Mostly, there might still be gaps. But as of now her mind can access the more important information."
(Y/N) walked up to the little girl, dismissed both Lilith and Amber, and knelt down to be able to look the Summer Maiden eye-to-eye.
(Y/N): "Hello there, you've been in a terrible accident. I was able to find you and rescue you, but you weren't able to remember anything. The nice lady said she helped you, are you able to remember now?"
He smiled warmly, the little girl nodded at him.
(Y/N): "Good. First, let's get on the professional level. Personally I find it weird to refer to you just by 'little girl' so... I'm Ace, what's your name?"
She hesitated for a few moments.
Summer: "M-my name's Summer."
The little girl answered with a slight stutter but nonetheless bravely, though she looked quite off-put by (Y/N)'s Grimm-like appearance.
(Y/N): "Summer. It's fitting..."
He patted Summer's head gently.
(Y/N): "You've been taught to use your special powers, yes?"
She nodded.
Summer: "Can I ask a question?'
(Y/N): "I'll try my best to answer. Ask away, little one."
He permitted.
Summer: "Why do you look like... them."
She questioned. (Y/N) chuckled.
(Y/N): "Well, just because I look like a Grimm doesn't mean I am one. I saved you, after all. Would a Grimm ever save you?"
Summer shook her head.
(Y/N): "How smart you are, Summer. But I have to warn you. There are Grimm all over the place, so you got to stay in this castle otherwise they'll get you. Okay?"
She nodded, she unfortunately trusted (Y/N) and his lies.
Summer: "Okay. When the Grimm are gone, maybe I'll be able to see Mavis."
(Y/N): "Mavis? Who's Mavis?"
Summer: "She said that my powers were her gift to me, she said it when she left for a long journey she had. She hasn't been back for quite a while. But I remember that her powers saved me from a Grimm attack."
(Y/N)'s mind quickly connected the dots.
(Y/N): "So that's what her name was. I would've asked it from her. If my hordes hadn't worn her down and devoured her before I could even have ordered them to stop... I'm sure Mavis will eventually come back for you. She sounds like a very kind woman."
Summer: "She was. She once gave me a magic show."
(Y/N): "Magic? You say?... I may actually know where she is..."
Summer: "Really? Harold said nobody knew where she was."
(Y/N): "Harold... her personal guard, the soldier that was with her. It's because he doesn't know where to look. When you're ready. We can go and see her, alright?"
Summer looked quite excited, she nodded with an innocent grin on her face. (Y/N) smiled too, ecstatic at the notion that he could finally have access to the Relic of Destruction.
(Y/N): "Don't get too excited, right now you need your rest. We will head there later."
(Y/N) led Amber out of the throne room, past the doors where Amber and Lilith were waiting for him.
(Y/N): "Lilith, take Summer to her room."
Lilith nodded, grasping the little girl's hand and leading her down the hallway. The pair eventually turned a corner, out of sight to continue to head to a heavily guarded part of the palace.
Amber: "Well, you got what you wanted..."
She said. While she was glad she was one step closer to re-uniting with her team. She knew deep down, that (Y/N) was also one step closer to finally achieving what he wanted. And she had willingly helped him in doing so.
(Y/N): "Like I said, and I mean it... I wouldn't be here without you."
Amber: "You always seem to like playing the vulnerable one, despite your superiority complex. Does your confession even mean anything to you?"
(Y/N): "I'm almost never truthful, but I'm not lying when I say-."
(Y/N) stayed silent when Amber interrupted him.
Amber: "Save it for your puppet."
She said, beginning to walk away. Stopping only when (Y/N) grabbed her shoulder.
(Y/N): "Just for once, Amber. Allow me to tell you the truth."
She turned to look back at him. To the best of her abilities she couldn't tell whether he was lying or not. But she gave him her time.
(Y/N): "Without you I would either be dead or already dying. It doesn't mean much to you, but... well... I..."
He couldn't find the words to correctly describe his gratefulness. Amber would shoot down any attempt he made to try and express himself verbally. So instead of words, he would use actions.
(Y/N): "You won't believe anything I say. But..."
Taking a second to look around for his minions, (Y/N) wrapped his arms around Amber. She gasped in surprise as he did, never before had he been so thankful.
(Y/N): "Despite your stubbornness, I still appreciate your help."
He said, letting go and walking away. Amber just stood there in slight shock.
