Chapter VIII: Lost Memories
(Y/N) nervously paced back and forth across his throne room. The one thing that allowed him access to the vital Relic of Destruction now lay beneath the amnesiac girl's head. She was confined to a room, nursed by Lilith who also monitored her state.
Orion: "My master, what will we do now that the Relic is out of our reach?"
Octavian questioned, (Y/N) continued with his pacing
(Y/N): "For now most of the plan is complete, our possession of the Relic of Knowledge keeps it out of the hands of the enemy. It's only one, but the primary objective is keeping the relics out of the hands of the people of Remnant. We just have to think of a way to access her memories..."
It was only then that (Y/N) suddenly had an idea come to fruition, the faint reminder of a past companion he had worked closely with on his ascent to power. He sat on his throne, smiling a little to himself. Remembering a past conversation he had with her, the last he had with what could be considered the outside world.
(Y/N): "Amber Zarrick..."
Orion looked confused for a moment.
Orion: "Who, sire?"
(Y/N) confidently stayed sitting as he planned a few extra steps.
(Y/N): "An old friend. If I remember correctly, Zarrick was from Mistral. She would have definitely been called back to active service as a huntress, meaning we have inadvertedly put our plan back on track with our decision to satellite the kingdom of Mistral. Orion, we'll head back to Haven, go to that coward Lionheart and tell him to retrieve any sorts of records. Anything that can inform us of Zarrick's well-being, it's a long overdue talk we need to have. Come, Orion we head for Haven!"
- Timeskip - Mistral -
Black Horde forces still surrounded the city of Mistral, however dark banners displaying a Spade had now been hoisted all over the city. Signifying the kingdom's new allegiance, it's new puppet status however did not keep it from the threat of ultimate destruction. Which was what was used to keep (Y/N)'s new allies in line. Ultimately cruel but effective.
Two Nevermore landed directly in the courtyard of Haven, allowing it's riders to disembark. (Y/N) and Orion made their way past the lobby and into Lionheart's office, where the visibly stressed professor was busy with doing paperwork.
Orion closed the door behind him as (Y/N) sat down in the seat across the Professor's desk.
(Y/N): "Lionheart. I'm here to inquire on a student of yours... You might know her."
Lionheart: "Of course, my master."
He nervously said. Placing his paperwork into his desk, opening his computer.
Lionheart: "Atlas cut all tower communication with us, it might be slower than usual."
(Y/N): "I did not ask you about your system's speed, I did not even ask you about the person of interest yet."
(Y/N) sharply replied, Lionheart nodded quickly in reply.
(Y/N): "I would like to inquire on one Amber Zarrick, semblance: Memory Reading."
Lionheart typed the information, (Y/N) sat there looking at his watch closely. Orion was right next to Lionheart, making sure that he wasn't bluffing in his search. A few minutes passed until Lionheart was able to bring up her file.
Lionheart: "Yes, her and her team was involved in one of the larger Grimm assault on the city... Her entire team save herself was slaughtered in that battle her brother included, she's actually within these school walls. Medical Bay 8."
(Y/N): "Thank you, your assistance is appreciated."
He said, Leo stayed silent and nodded back. (Y/N) and Orion left the office in search for the room. After another few minutes of searching throughout the school, eventually they came across Med Bay 8.
(Y/N) walked down the isle of hospital beds, the wounded and dying lay there in agony. Claw slashes and chewed out flesh could be seen all over their bodies. Bed by bed it either got better or worse. Placing doubt in (Y/N)'s mind that Amber could be dead, or already dying.
The two rounded the last hospital bed, where (Y/N) first saw familiar dirty blonde hair. The cat Faunus sensed his presence and turned to see a (Y/N) (L/N) standing there with his servant. Now worse looking than he ever was before, even Amber jumped back a little at his appearance but more at him simply being there in the first place.
Her elegant looking face was now scarred with the scratch of a Beowolf. It was healing because of her aura, but it was something that would definitely be with her for the rest of her life. Amber just smirked when she saw (Y/N) standing there, shaking her head slowly.
Amber: "Well well well, look who it is. They'll let just about anyone in this academy these days, don't you agree? (Y/N) (L/N)?"
Now, (Y/N) hated the sound of his own name. The name that restricted him to the status of a simple person, now he was more than that. He had evolved to become one of the most powerful beings on Remnant. But he had also evolved to the point where he realized that getting angry at Amber wouldn't really do anything. He would get straight to the point and leave this academy with what he wanted.
(Y/N): "I need you to read the mind of the Summer Maiden for me."
Amber looked at him like he just spat out false teeth. She then giggled a little, before exploding into laughter. (Y/N) looked around, seeing various patients attempting to try and grab a peek what was going on. (Y/N) looked to Octavian to keep whatever privacy the curtains could provide, he closed them without question.
He went around the medical area to avert the attention of any eavesdroppers. Meanwhile, Zarrick was still in complete hysterics. She eventually was able to calm down before wiping a few tears from her eyes. Whether they were tears of happiness, sadness, madness. (Y/N) wasn't able to pinpoint.
Amber: "I cannot believe it. You, (Y/N) (L/N): Ace of Spaces now Prince of Grimm... Ravaged through Remnant, destroyed Vacuo, killed thousands with your Grimm armies, tricked me into helping you in order to defeat Salem and take her place-"
(Y/N): "Are you finished? Besides, it was you who attempted to ensnare me in my own trap. Lament on how your own plan failed forever for all I care, and wallow in remorse when you have time for it. But I need you, now. Together we were able to outwit and defeat Salem, together... we can own the world."
He urged. Amber just sighed in response.
Amber: "You're missing the point, (L/N). Your Grimm attacks had my entire team slaughtered like animals in the streets... The Black Horde consumed them all, My brother Asher, this innocent boy from a simple village that discovered his gifts at the wrong time... and my friend Elle. The girl you had saved."
Amber scolded. (Y/N) had faint memories of Amber's team. Especially Elle, as he saved her once. But that was in the past, what mattered is what happens now.
(Y/N): "That I regret hearing."
He said, though Amber could see through his façade.
Amber: "Do you? Don't think that your lies will work on everyone. It always seemed like lying was all the good you could bring into this world, thinking on that makes me sick. Your entire existence is a mistake."
(Y/N) angrily grabbed Amber by the throat, off the bed she was sitting on and threw her onto the wall in a blind rage, her aura was all that protected her from his wrath. Diminished greatly by his brute force, Amber remained unfazed as she knee that (Y/N) needed her for something.
Amber: "Temper, temper (Y/N). You won't kill me, you can't kill me, after all you need me. You said so yourself."
(Y/N)'s grip slowly loosened in response, eventually he had to let go. Amber was right, there was no other way he was going to retrieve the Relic of Destruction. He had to concede his loss, loss of temper and loss of power. Amber was a resilient person, she could simply choose to not help (Y/N) and die of she so pleased.
For now she had power over him which she evidently took pleasure in wading in. He knew he couldn't hurt her, much less kill her over a mere insult. A petty show of pride of there ever was one, power got into his head and (Y/N) forgot that pride kills.
In a rare moment, (Y/N) had to admit his defeat...
