Chapter IX: The Palace
With some forcefulness involved, (Y/N) and Orion had flown Amber back to his palace in the forbidden lands, For now, Orion had peeled off from the two to partake in more military planning alongside Killian. Amber; in handcuffs, took a little tour with (Y/N) through his Palace, which mostly consisted of big, empty hallways, miscellaneous rooms for various purposes and his throne room.
Amber: "Impressive architecture. It really captures your emptiness inside."
She sarcastically remarked.
(Y/N): "I'll take that to heart."
He replied back.
Amber: "So this is your show of power before offering me terms of my assistance? An empty palace, with nothing in sight?"
(Y/N): "If there was truly anything I could promise you, I could promise you the world."
(Y/N) said.
Amber: "The world won't bring my team back. You'll have to do better than that."
All of a sudden, a voice was heard from seemingly nowhere.
Lilith: "Your ungratefulness disgusts me."
(Y/N) and Amber turned to see Lilith emerging from out of the shadows, drinking from a chalice of red wine.
Lilith: "(Y/N) grants you the right to survive, the right to wander his palace, the right to let you live... And you squander it with every word you spout."
She sneered at her, taking a little sip from her glass.
Amber: "And you, you try to act like you're so high and mighty. But you're too stricken with your admiration to see that he's using you."
(Y/N): "That's enough out of you. You're overstepping your boundaries. You only really need your hands to use your semblance, know your limits."
Amber: "I'm still interested in hearing your reasons why I should help you in the first place. Really, I am absolutely tching to hear what you have to offer me."
(Y/N) looked at her with a condescending expression, he was irritated with the speed that this was going. Every second that passed attempting to get Amber to utilize her semblance was one that could be used to finally launch the assault on Fortress Vale.
(Y/N): "Lilith, if you please. May I talk with Amber in peace."
Lilith glared at Amber for a moment, her face softened as she nodded towards (Y/N). Leaving the vicinity off to the Dungeon to inspect the prisoners. (Y/N) turned to Amber, who was shaking her head slowly towards Lilith.
Amber: "Is she your partner, or your puppet?"
She asked.
(Y/N): "I don't think lowly of those who fight with me."
Amber: "Well it just so happens that I distinctly remember you taunting me on the scroll and boasting about your superiority. I also recollect that you thought lowly of me so much that my own plan flew right under your nose until the very last moment. It's here I will admit to this, I was using you to get my revenge on Salem for not allowing me to go head-to-head with you."
(Y/N) chuckled at the irony.
(Y/N): "Well speak of the obvious, we were both willing to use each other. Looks like you lost the moral high ground."
Amber: "Not so fast, you are currently on a campaign of world domination. Other than this back and forth between us, you still haven't provided me a reason to help the Summer Maiden with her memories. Frankly I'm disappointed."
Amber's sly green eyes didn't infuriate (Y/N), he stayed in control through her mocking. But he found her defiance admirable, she saved him at his lowest point after all.
(Y/N): "I need you, Amber. I wouldn't be where I was without you."
She then scoffed in the face of the devil.
Amber: "With that in mind it's because of me that my friends are dead. If you ever thank me for all of this ever again I'll vomit."
(Y/N): "Do you think I ever intended your team to die? Think about all of this, I intend to conquer the world. Not kill everyone who inhabits Remnant, my Spawn only kill those who oppose them. Sometimes their instincts override the programming, leading to unnecessary casualties. Your brother and your teammates chose to resist me. Though they resisted my armies, I commend their bravery as much as you. Their decision to resist the inevitable is very admirable. Your choice to not give in as also brave."
Amber: "Oh really? Your point?"
Although she saw through his manipulation, she seemed intrigued in what (Y/N) had to say to her.
(Y/N): "Inevitability, Remnant will be under my control. One way or another, why fight what will eventually be? Now that I'm unable to completely die, what good will any sacrifice of yours do?"
Amber: "That makes me think, how did you become immortal?"
Asked Amber, she leaned against one of the columns while still staring at (Y/N).
(Y/N): "That's not important. I've made connections and I have the obligation to keep them to myself."
Amber: "Now that's rude of you."
Amber retorted.
(Y/N): "Your point?
(Y/N) repeated Amber's own words to her. She laughed a little at this.
Amber: "No point, just a statement."
It was at that point that (Y/N) was now beginning to lose his patience once more.
(Y/N): "Zarrick. You're trying to throw me off by changing the subject of this conversation. My patience is waning."
Amber: "That's your problem, (Y/N). You're impatient, which leads to recklessness."
(Y/N) sighed heavily..
(Y/N): "Will you or will you not unlock the Summer Maiden's memories? I'm asking politely."
Amber: "Tell me why I would and should help you conquer all of Remnant first."
(Y/N): "Like I said earlier, inevitability. Any sacrifice you would theoretically make would be meaningless in the long run. Just let it happen, let it happen and I will eventually have all of Remnant under my command."
Amber: "You gloat about inevitability, why shouldn't I resist you then? It's what I desire to do and in your own words, it wouldn't do anything to hinder you."
(Y/N): "You are possibly the most difficult person I've ever met in my short life."
Amber: "You'll never get used to it, then."
Amber turned to walk away from (Y/N) who looked absolutely frustrated with how things were going. Until, an idea came to mind. One he could not confirm on his own, but he was desperate at this point. He knew he had to bet all of his cards in on this one.
(Y/N): "Amber. Wait."
She stopped to look back at him. She was also growing impatient with him and his fruitless offerings.
(Y/N): "This is something I am not certain of... but I believe it may be of great interest to you."
Amber: "And that would be?"
She immediately asked.
(Y/N): "Within all four academies are relics that are able to perform specific functions. Right now, I have the relic of Knowledge. There are three others, one that I need you to help in retrieving is the Relic of Destruction."
She snickered a little.
Amber: "Fitting."
(Y/N): "Stop with that, otherwise this offer is null and void before we can even make the deal."
Amber: "Well, get on with it then."
(Y/N): "The Relic of Destruction will grant me the ability to destroy Vale. After that, the fall of Atlas will grant me the access to the Relic of Creation. It is an ancient artifact that will be able to create... and possibly recreate anything. Re-animation... is in the realm of possibility."
Amber looked doubtful at first, but it was replaced slowly with a glimmer of hope in her eyes. The slightest of changes, but (Y/N) could see it in her. She was intrigued, he had her. Now he had to keep her on the line and reel her in.
Amber: "These Relics... may I see them?"
(Y/N) smiled a little, then nodded. Beginning to lead her on.
The two of them made their way to where (Y/N) was storing the relic which he had. Amber was noticeably more energetic in her strides. (Y/N) was ahead of her, but he could still notice the urgency in her movements.
The two of them made their way deeper into the palace, where there was a long corridor leading to four smaller columns. Podiums for the four relics. The lamp was hovering on one of them. (Y/N) showed it to her and allowed her to see it for what it was and gave her a window on the ancient power that (Y/N) needed.
(Y/N): "That lamp is the Relic of Knowledge. It had two questions when I found it, the first question I used to find the Summer Maiden. The second, I used to find you."
Amber: "Are there any questions left in it?"
She asked curiously.
(Y/N): "Three. As I said, one was already used up when I got to it. Lionheart told me. So, no there are no more uses for it."
Amber gazed at the impossible artifact, levitating on it's own without any anti-gravity devices in sight practically confirmed it's ancient power. She then slowly turned over to (Y/N), sighing as she held out her hand.
Amber: "My compliance in exchange for my team's renewed life."
The deal was straightforward and to the point. (Y/N) took her hand with his own black-veined, deathly white one and shook it firmly. She deeply regretted it, but she also had longed for her team back from time to time. Both were eating at her from within.
(Y/N): "I promise that your brother and team will be returned to you."
