Chapter XXIII: ...In With The New
- A Month Later -
Lisa Lavender: "This is a worldwide story for us tonight Grant. It seems that for some reason, there haven't been any Grimm sightings for the past few weeks... No attacks have been recorded since... And for this the huntsman academies are bewildered, some have now even began to question the very need of huntsmen."
The broadcast stretched far and wide, throughout all four of the kingdoms; Vale, Vacuo, Atlas and Mistral. Everyone in potent shock of the past events that shook the world of Remnant to it's core. No Grimm attacks the past few weeks... not even a sighting. Confusion grips at society like a hungry animal.
Lilith Heathers resided in a small cabin in the Forever Fall, listening to a radio as it continuously talked about the recent enigma. Suddenly, she stumbled upon interesting information. A radio station talking about the said event. The Host had just received a call from an anonymous messenger, who seemed vaguely familiar.
Host: "So, now I'm receiving a call from an Allan Smith based in Vale... I'm patching him through right now."
Lilith: "Hm, sounds interesting..."
She told herself, listening intently.
???: "Good Evening. I'd like to talk about something I've been having circulate around my head for awhile."
Host: "Sure thing bud, ask away."
???: "Do you think... Since the Grimm are gone, huntsmen will soon become irrelevant to society? Y'know, since they're presumed gone, and if they're gone, we don't really need them anymore."
Host: "Interesting topic Mr. Smith. Perhaps, you're right. It's a small chance the Grimm are actually gone, but should they be. Huntsmen would not be relevant anymore, yes. Interesting question Mr. Smith thank you."
???: "You're very welcome. I thank you for having the time to respond to me."
Host: "Hey no problem man."
That was when a realization popped into her mind.
Lilith: "Operation Nightingale... I think (Y/N)'s just done it again."
She whispered. Smiling.
- Ruby Rose's POV -
Yang and I stared at the TV in shock, the Grimm were gone. All gone, it was true. Even here in Patch we hadn't seen a single Grimm or even heard of one from our surrounding neighbours. Yang's jaw was already dropping, I myself was honestly confused... How in the world does something like this just happen?... And what if huntsmen and huntresses were not needed anymore?
The very concept frightened me to the bone...
- Amber's POV-
Quickly snatching my scroll off of the charging pad, I rapidly dialled a certain number on the device I never thought I'd dial ever again. Making sure Asher didn't see me walking past his room.
Pushing aside the door and wading outside, I muttered to myself as the line connected. I pressed it against my ear, all the while confining my voice to a mere whisper.
Me: "(Y/N)... You survived didn't you?"
Silence surrounded me, before I heard a small chuckle emerge from the small device, I almost dropped the scroll in shock... It's him...
(Y/N): "...Did you really think having the damn building fall down on me was enough?"
Me: "You dastardly genius... "
I said, disbelief ran rampant through my tone.
(Y/N): "I simply had to listen up to Remnant's reactions to the fact that their longtime foes were finally gone. It was honestly satisfying to see my whole plan come together..."
Me: "Um, what plan?"
(Y/N) again snickered.
(Y/N): "It was honestly foolish of you to trust me. It's foolish for anyone to trust me. The Raid of Beacon taught me that huntsmen weren't going down even if the brightest lights shine out, Just then that was when the revelation came to me, without Darkness... Light cannot serve it's meaningful purpose. And eventually there's going to be no need for Light anymore. Which is when Darkness can finally strike."
That was when I remembered, The Ace of Spade's intention was always to defeat The Huntsman. Never to destroy humanity as a whole, taking over with the Grimm by his side was only a plus for him, but now with them out of the way and no more justified use for huntsmen the world is eventually gonna stop needing them. His objective was always huntsmen not power.
Amber: "You have defeated all huntsmen by making them essentially needless in the world of Remnant."
(Y/N): "I'm not surprised you came to that conclusion... You're a smart girl, Amber..."
- (Y/N)'s POV - Beacon Tower's Construction Site -
(Y/N): "...But I assure you, our little past alliance will not deter me from, let's just say eliminating you should you come after me. I'd like to celebrate my ultimate victory in peace."
I could hear the frustration in her voice, her burning yet silent fury trying to char me through the phone speaker.
Amber: "What you did will not go unnoticed by the authorities. They'll get you."
I grimaced at first, then only grinning even more.
(Y/N): "I don't fear the police, they fear me. Trust me... well this one time, out of so many lies."
Amber: "I won't go after you, but you'll live the rest of your life in hiding and in solitude. I don't see how that means you won."
I felt my anger beginning to boil, her persistence annoys me.
(Y/N): "Amber, Amber, Amber... I am the boy whom Remnant fears... I am the boy who has this world in the palm of my hand... I am the boy who killed Salem the 'All Powerful' Mistress of Darkness... I am the boy who has brought down the Wonderful Ozpin to my knees... I'm the boy who DESTROYED Beacon Academy and the freaking Schnee Dust Company!"
I cried out, smirking mischievously more and more as I listed off my various acts of malice.
Amber: "(Y/-"
(Y/N): "Do not call me by that name... I am not your lifelong friend. Call me what I want to be called."
Amber stayed silent. I them stood up from my sitting position. All the way up on top of the unfinished CCT tower, overlooking the large city of Vale. I knew she was hesitant to say it, friendship held her back from embracing the truth.
Amber: "...Ace of Spades, you will never have your perfect victory."
I sighed in disappointment, I knew that she knew that nothing could be done about me. I'd long already gotten away with it.
(Y/N): "That's right Amber. I am the Ace of Spades. Remnant's sole nightmare. I'll say this now and forever. I have won, and that is all that matters. Nothing you say or anyone else says will tear my rightfully earned victory from me. I won that day and I will always win no matter what..."
I heard her sigh behind the speaker. Before speaking to me one last time.
Amber: "...G-goodbye (Y/-"
I then turned off the scroll mid-call, taking out the SIM card and placing it into my pocket. Holding my scroll out in front of me I let the glass-based device slip between my fingers. Watching satisfied as gravity threw it hundreds of feet down to the ground, faintly hearing a loud smash. The mild wind brushed past my hair and clothing, bringing with it a serene peaceful feeling. Perhaps peace did feel good sometimes.
I took a long and satisfying breath in and out. Soaking in the slowly diminishing light of Remnant's distant sunset as it's hopeful glimmer fell into the long horizon. Dusk arrived as it then slowly grasped the land in a blanket of shadows, allowing me to bask in the darkness, standing atop the vast CCT construction site.
(Y/N): "This... this is simply wonderful."
THE END.
