Monster Eyes

Summary: When Apollo and Trucy return to the Wright Anything Agency, returning from a trial, they find Phoenix searching for his missing contact lens. It's up to Trucy and Apollo to help Phoenix search for his missing contact or forever suffer under Phoenix's cursed monster eyes.

Apollo had just returned back to the office from his recent trial. It was exhausting to say the least. Trucy was a lot of help and he was glad to have been getting more clients since the jury trial that solved the case from seven year sago. Apollo was certainly proud of himself and relieved that his mentor's name was cleared. Unfortunately, Apollo was about to face yet another huge problem as soon as he opened the door.

"Hey, Mr. Wright. I fi-" Apollo greeted, before being cut off.

"HOLD IT!" Phoenix cried out in panic mode. He was on his hands and knees, eyes staring at the ground with his open hand at Apollo and Trucy.

"Daddy, what happened? Wait, don't tell me you lost your cap!" Trucy shouted, noticing that Phoenix was not wearing his beanie.

"No, the cap is fine. It's much worse. I lost my contact lens!" Phoenix replied, frantically searching the floor of the office, which was chunk full of stuff.

"Oh no! That is bad. Don't tell me..."

"I'm afraid so, Trucy," Phoenix said sadly.

"Can I have a moment to catch up? First off, you wear contacts? Second, don't you have a pair of glasses?" Apollo asked, looking dumbfounded.

"Just one and why would I need glasses? I see perfectly fine," Phoenix asked, still searching the floor, then under the couch.

"But, you just said that you wear contacts or... well, one at least. Why would you need them anyways?" Apollo asked, pushing his index finger on his forehead.

"Polly, don't you know!? If Daddy doesn't find his contact soon, he'll be cursed with the Daddy Monster Eyes," Trucy said, showing her puffy cheeks and glaring eyes.

"The Daddy Monster Eyes? Wha?" Apollo asked, looking more confused.

"She means these," Phoenix said, looking straight at Apollo, showing two different colored eyes. His left eye being brown and the right eye being blue. That was enough to give Apollo a jump scare.

"Eeeek!" Apollo almost screamed. He heard about people having different colored eyes like that, but seeing it in his own mentor he idolized was enough to make his skin chill.

"Told ya! Now, don't just stand there, help Daddy find his contact lens!" Trucy glared, her hands on her hips.

"G-Got it," Apollo replied, getting down on his hands and knees with Trucy to find the missing contact lens. "When did you last have it before losing it?"

"Hm... I was watering Charley, then I felt it slip just when I was pouring my coffee," Phoenix said.

"Where's your coffee?"

"I placed it over on the desk, after my contact slipped, so I can start looking for it."

"And, where were you pouring your coffee?"

"By the window, I think, but I already checked there."

"No harm in checking again," Apollo said, searching over by the window near Charley. He searched inside and outside of the pot.

"Are you sure it didn't land on your clothes, Daddy?" Trucy asked.

"I'm sure. I looked around Charley too. Hm... maybe I should get a blue colored contact. It would certainly be easier to find," Phoenix said.

"So um, what is it that you have? Like what is it called to have different colored eyes like that?" Apollo asked curiously.

"Heterochromia Iridum, though my friends called them Monster Eyes. Trucy added in the Daddy part to it."

"Some friends. What kind of friends comes up with a name Monster Eyes?"

"The two biggest jerks in history."

"... ugh sorry about that."

"It's fine. It doesn't bother me anymore," Phoenix laughed lightheartedly.

"Daddy, are you sure you dropped it on the floor, I can't find it anywhere," Trucy said.

"Me neither. I searched for over an hour."

"Over an hour!?" Apollo asked, practically screaming.

"Yep. Guess I'll have to order some new contacts," Phoenix sighed, sitting cross-legged.

"But Daddy, you can't order them like that! Maybe Uncle Miles can get them for you. You can't go out in public looking like that!" Trucy pouted.

"Trucy, they're just different colored eyes. I'm sure it's not that big of a deal. I doubt if anyone would notice them," Apollo said.

"Are you kidding, Polly! Daddy has big ol' eyes! If he walks around like that, I'll never get a new mommy."

"That's what you're worried about?" Apollo asked with a facial expression of annoyance.

"She has a point. Monster Eyes are not very attractive. I still remember being sent home by the teachers, because they thought I had some sort of disease," Phoenix grinned.

"Wow, that's... sorry about that, Mr. Wright."

"Huh, oh that was my fault. I was joking about having a disease that turned my eyes like that and they sent me home," Phoenix explained before bursting out laughing.

Apollo groaned, he forgot how horrible Phoenix was at making jokes. Though, that one had to be one of the worst ones. Sighing, he had to admit that even as horrible as that joke was, it did show him more about Phoenix Wright he never knew about. There were many things Apollo didn't know about his mentor and he was now learning that Phoenix had different colored eyes.

"Actually, you know what? Your eyes don't look bad," Apollo smirked.

"Really?" Phoenix asked, looking genuinely surprised.

"Yeah. I mean, they're different sure and not something I'd expect, but they fit you. It's as the judge said, you have the talent for the ridiculous. You always come up with off-the-wall, clever ideas that no one expects and can sometimes feel random, but actually fit into place. The eyes are not something expected, they're certainly off-the-wall and feel random, but they fit you naturally like your ideas."

"... thanks, Apollo. You know, you're the third person to compliment my eyes."

"Really?" Apollo asked, though he did expect that not everyone would give a compliment to eyes like that. "Who were the other two?"

"My ex girlfriend and Trucy of course."

"Yep. I told Daddy that his eyes looked really magical," Trucy grinned.

"Wait, you had a girlfriend?" Apollo asked, looking surprised. Again, another part of his mentor he knew nothing about.

"Yep, she said my eyes were cute. That was way back in college. We don't talk to each other that much anymore," Phoenix said. "You know, for being a search party for a missing contact, we're certainly talking about me a lot."

"Honestly, I don't know that much about you."

"Huh... I guess not. With all the secrecy leading to that jury trial, I suppose I was hiding more about myself than I intended. I don't even think I introduced you to my friends."

"You mean other than Kristoph?"

"Well yeah! I've made all kinds of friends from being an attorney and two I've known since elementary school."

"I think you mentioned them about giving you the name Monster Eyes."

"Yeah. Larry Butz and Miles Edgeworth. They're troublesome, but friends I can always count on that've saved me countless times."

"Wait, Miles Edgeworth? You mean the prosecutor that's your greatest rival?"

"Well... was. We haven't been rivals for seven years. These days, he sometimes calls me out on trips to Europe to help him out in certain cases."

"I... didn't know. Sounds like you both are pretty tight. I have a friend like that too, though we're not rivals."

"Hahaha that's good. Miles has always had problems where I had to face him in court to help him. It's more trouble than it's worth."

"HAHAHA I can imagine," Apollo smirked, then began thinking. "Mr. Wright, did anyone besides Trucy and I come here since you lost your contact?"

"No, why?"

"Unless your contact grew legs and walked, which is impossible, I don't think it left this room. It's somewhere in here, but some place we haven't looked."

"Where do you think, Polly? We've searched all over the floor, Charley, Daddy looked around the couches," Trucy said.

"That's right, even the tables. There's so much stuff in here, it's hard to turn every stone," Phoenix said lightheartedly.

"I think it might be closer than we think," Apollo said, his finger pressing on his forehead. "What is the one place we haven't looked yet?"

"I don't know," Trucy replied.

"Hm... Mr. Wright, when did you say you lost your contact lens?" Apollo asked.

"It was when I was pouring my coffee, after looking out the window," Phoenix replied.

"Pouring or making your coffee? I'd imagine you'd have to add in the sugar and cream."

"Na, I always put both in my coffee before pouring it."

"Could it be in your coffee, then?" Apollo asked.

"I don't think so. It would have floated on top then."

"OBJECTION! You said you were pouring your coffee. Considering your contact lens is made to change the color of your eye, it wouldn't be made of plastic like the clear ones, it would be glass. That means that if it came out and landed in your coffee, while you were pouring it, the liquid would then drown the contact lens inside your coffee cup. Ergo..."

"That's true," Phoenix muttered, then quickly walked over to the coffee and dipped his hand inside. Sure enough, he pulled out a glass contact lens that showed a dark brown circle in the middle. "Nice deduction, Mr. Justice."

"Yep. Thanks to you, Daddy doesn't have to go out with the Daddy Monster Eyes," Trucy grinned excitedly.

"Yes, but now I'll have to clean this and I'm going to have to order a new prescription with blue eyes."

"Aww, but I'm gonna miss the brown ones."

"Sorry, but I've been losing my contacts a lot and I think blue contacts will be easier to find."

"Hopefully, you won't pour them into your coffee," Apollo muttered.

A/N: Just a silly short story. The Phoenix Wright games seem to change Phoenix's eyes from brown to blue. To be honest, I like the idea of Phoenix having different colored eyes. For those of you that don't know, I just posted a fan fiction called Turnabout Enemies. Check it out, if you haven't.
