Apollo Justice is on Your Side

Summary: Apollo comes to visit his friends and everyone at the Wright Anything Agency. Unfortunately, Maya gets accused of murder again, but this time, Phoenix is away in Europe defending a client. Apollo takes it upon himself to defend Maya in Phoenix's stead. This will prove to Phoenix and Maya that, even Maya Fey, doesn't have to be alone or rely only on Phoenix. She has the entire agency and the Justice Law Office to defend her when Phoenix cannot.

This was supposed to be a simple visitation. Of course, Apollo knew Phoenix had gone to do some legal business in Europe. Trucy had gone with him as his moral support. He wouldn't be able to catch them for at least four days from today. In the meantime, Apollo figured he could catch up with everyone else, until they got back. Athena was holding the fort and was excited to see her old friend again. Simon was happy in his own way and Klavier... the same. Apollo also decided to pay a visit to Kurain too, catching up with Pearl and Maya Fey. Everyone was happy to see him again.

Unfortunately, Phoenix wasn't the only attorney that trouble that tends to follow. Apollo seemed to have caught the same trait and, whenever there was an attorney in the midst, that seems to lure trouble and Maya always tend to be caught up in it, particularly murder. This time, Phoenix would not be there to save her. He was all the way in Europe, thus was too busy to answer his phone and, if that weren't bad enough, the phone calls Maya was allowed to make from the Detention Center were limited and cost $0.50 per call.

"I'm so sorry, Ms. Fey. I was able to get a hold of Trucy, but she says Mr. Wright is taking a case right now," Apollo said sadly.

Maya sighed, "what a load of luck. Here I am, accused of murder... again... and Nick has to deal with his own client."

"Yeah. Sorry."

"Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault this happens to me. I just tend to have bad luck on my side when it comes to murder. I was even accused of murdering my sister, once upon a time. That was when Nick defended me for the first time. I tried to get a hold of Mr. Grossberg, my sis' mentor, but... he couldn't help me. At least Nick has an excuse this time."

Apollo listened carefully behind the glass window, nodding. He remembered hearing those words from Phoenix when he became Apollo's first client. He had a tendency for having bad luck on his side and having no one to defend him. Of course, he laughed it off, saying that it was why he became an attorney. Either way, Apollo could see there was some sadness behind that. Sure, Phoenix practically guided Apollo throughout that whole trial, but it was clear he was thankful for having at least one person on his side. Knowing that his former mentor was the real murderer, those words about always having bad luck and having no one on his side seemed to have a much stronger meaning, now looking back.

"Ms. Fey, I know it wasn't you and there's no way Mr. Wright can defend you at this point so..." Apollo said, pressing his finger on his forehead before slamming his fists on the counter. Maya jumped back. "YOU'LL BE FINE!! Apollo Justice is here to defend you!"

"Justice..." Maya said, eyes widened. "Y-You don't..."

"Sorry, I'm not taking no for an answer. I'm not doing this for Mr. Wright. I'm doing this, because I can and you need someone to defend you. I'm just as good as Mr. Wright and, in fact, have defended him as his attorney in court. I also have a lie detector of sorts, even if it's not a magatama. If that isn't good enough for you, then I can add Athena, who can detect emotions from people's voices and was also taught by Phoenix Wright. If those aren't good qualifications for you, then I don't know what is. As far as I'm considered, you've got yourself covered," Apollo smirked proudly.

Maya found herself flabbergasted, then found herself smiling and crying in joy, saying, "thank you. Nick certainly has taught you guys well. Hmph, I'm counting on you to get me out of here, so I can meet Nick again and make him buy me some burgers!"

"You got it! Now, say it with me, 'I am Maya Fey and I am fine!'"

"I-I don't know."

"That's what I always say when I'm nervous, scared or uncertain. Athena and I have our practices."

"Hahaha I'm sure you must keep the whole building up."

"You bet we do. Now, say it with me, 'I'm Maya Fey and I am fine!'"

"I AM MAYA FEY AND I AM FINE!!" Maya screamed at the top of her lungs with spirit and energy. It was enough to make the guard jump. "Wow, you were right, I feel a lot better now."

"You see? What did I tell you? Now, get yourself ready for tomorrow, because we're going to get you out with a Not Guilty verdict. I'll let Mr. Wright right now that I've got this and I won't leave you hanging."

"You bet you won't. If you do, Nick won't forgive ya," Maya teased.

"Uh... not sure how I feel about that," Apollo said, scratching the back of his neck dorkly.

"Oh, you'll be fine. That's what you always say, right?"

"You got me there."

"By the way, Prosecutor Gavin is going to be Prosecuting. He seemed far too excited to be meeting me here."

"That's Gavin for ya," Apollo said, looking annoyed. He suspected it would be him or Blackquill, since neither one of them knew Maya or her connections with Phoenix. After all, when Klavier went up against him, he didn't have Maya with him. Apollo didn't even know if his former mentor knew her. "Did he say anything to you?"

"Not much. Just the basics on the case, what I was being accused for and some questions of the crime. I have to admit, compared to most Prosecutors that indict me for murder, he's probably one of the more nicer ones. Though, that's not saying a lot, considering that the only other Prosecutors to indict me that even bothered paying me a visit was Edgeworth and Von Karma on day 2."

"Wait, seriously?"

"Yep. Prosecutor Von Karma just sent Gumeshoe to question me, then on the second day, interrogated me with her whip. Prosecutor Sahdmadhi didn't visit me at any day. He always sent Ema or someone to interrogate me. Let me tell you, being interrogated is not fun. Until now, Edgeworth was one of the nicer ones, considering. He kept insisting that I confessed, but he didn't force me and... he did let me talk at least. That's one thing I can say about Edgeworth, even at his worst."

"..."

"I know it seems like a running joke that I'm always arrested for murder, but it really isn't fun. Nick was one of the only people that understood that. He was accused of murder too, even interrogated for it. Well, the first time was for stealing someone's lunch money at school, but then he was framed for murdering someone, while being sick with a cold. He wasn't even allowed to take his cold medicine, while in the Detention Center and kept being picked on for sneezing all over the guards. They eventually forced him to wear a mask just so he wouldn't make everyone else sick. Then, there was my situation with being framed for murdering my sister. While investigating, he found the real murderer, who had power over the Prosecutor's Office and made sure to get him arrested. I didn't know at the time, but he later told me that the interrogation was just as relentless on him as it was with myself at the time. He didn't get a visit from Edgeworth, though. And, of course, there was him being disbarred and being framed for murdering Shadi Smith. He couldn't sleep either of those nights and constantly worried about Trucy."

Apollo thought back to when he defended Phoenix Wright in court. It made sense now why he said he tended to have bad luck and no one to defend him. He also thought back to when Trucy was framed for murder. She always kept a smile, even during that time, though was close to bursting into tears several times, especially in court. He never thought about how bad the interrogation was for his clients.

"Oh, sorry about my venting," Maya apologized, clasping her hands together.

"No, you have nothing to feel sorry for, Ms. Fey. If there's something on your mind, you should let it all out. It will help me understand you and it will help you feel better. You shouldn't bottle your feelings up," Apollo said.

"I know, it just feels like I'm complaining about spilt milk. I mean, I know I'm going to get out, but... I just wish I didn't have to be in this situation. Am I so weak and naïve that I get myself into these messes? I shouldn't let it get to me, but... why me? Why is everyone out to get me? First, it was Redd White, then my Aunt, my dead cousin, my friends in Kurah'in and now... it's probably someone else I thought I could trust."

"Your aunt framed you for murder... and your cousin?" Apollo asked, feeling sick and horrified. No wonder Phoenix was so protective of Maya. She literally has no one else to turn to. Not even her own family. Pearl is probably the only exception, but she's so young.

"Yeah. Even Grossberg turned on me. Nick was the only person that stood by my side no matter what. I could always trust him like I did with my sister. It's hard to say, because I don't want everyone to worry about me all the time. I want everyone to be happy without any worries or people getting hurt. Though, it's hard when I'm behind this window or iron bars. It's just going to be another day of finding out someone I know is after me again and, being I am the Master of my village..."

"You're going to be fine, Maya."

"Hahaha I know."

"I mean it! Even if there's someone else that's betrayed your trust, you will always have those that you can always trust. It's as you said, you can always trust Mr. Wright will always be on your side and now, you have me and Athena. You're not alone, even if you think you are. If your family cannot give you their trust to protect you, then they're not your family. Your family is with the Wright Anything Agency and the Justice Law Office in Kurah'in! Wasn't it started by your sister, who always stood by your side and mentored Mr. Wright?"

"Y-Yeah!"

"Then, you have nothing to worry. We'll find out who the real murderer is and get you out of this mess like Mr. Wright always has. You'll be fine!"

"Hahahaha thank you. I am Maya Fey AND I AM FINE!"

"Thatta girl. Now, I'm going to call up Athena and ask her to assist me. This way, you'll be fully covered by two of Mr. Wright's best of the best."

"Hmph, I'm counting on you two."

"You bet."

Apollo left the Detention Center and made a quick phone call to Athena to assist him in defending Maya. She was beyond excited and was more than prepared to be a part of her Defense Team. They investigated the crime scene and talked to a couple of witnesses. Apollo also made sure to call Trucy, let her know that he was going to be defending Maya and let Phoenix know about this when he got back from his own case. Trucy was just as excited as Athena that her and Apollo were defending Maya on Phoenix's behalf. Apollo only hoped that this was enough to calm Phoenix down, if only a little bit.

The night after the investigation, Apollo received a call from Phoenix. He figured that Phoenix would be busy and not be able to find out about Maya through Trucy until tonight. It was for this reason he agreed to take Maya's case right away.

Apollo answered his cell phone, "Hello?"

"Apollo, where's Maya? Is she alright? What's going on? Trucy told me she was arrested for murder and you were defending her!" Phoenix asked, his voice sounding very panicked, not that Apollo could blame him after what he heard from Maya.

"She's fine. Athena and I investigated the crime scene and gathered enough evidence. Klavier Gavin is going to be prosecuting. I don't know what he has up his sleeve, but knowing him, I don't think he'll be as relentless on Ms. Fey as the other prosecutors that indict her. We got this, Mr. Wright. You have nothing to worry about. I know you have your own client to defend."

"Athena is assisting too? ... Apollo, thank you."

"Anytime, Mr. Wright."

"I mean it. Just hearing it come from you is enough to give me courage that you'll get Maya out of this mess. I don't like the idea of leaving her on her own without anyone to help her. I know she's a grown woman, but I worry for her."

"I don't blame you. You're practically family to her, the only one she can turn to. But, you are also just one person. Maya doesn't just have to turn to one person. She has the entire agency and now another law office to turn to, if she's ever in trouble."

"HAHAHAHA! That's true, huh? Though, a fruit for thought, Maya is a spirit medium, as you know."

"Yes."

"If you are ever in trouble and need extra assistance, you can ask her to summon someone that can help you. I lost my mentor when I was just a greenhorn and often had to rely on Spirit Mediums to summon her before I felt confident enough to do things on my own. I know you can do it, but it's something I thought may come in handy for you in case things get messy."

Apollo had a thought of maybe asking Maya to summon Dhurke. Though, decided to push that aside for when he was in real trouble. He smiled, replying, "I'll keep that in mind. I think I'm good for right now."

"Good. Update me tomorrow on how the trial goes."

"I will. Don't you worry! We'll be fine!"

"That's the spirit! Just try not to burst Maya's eardrums."

"Har har, very funny."

"Hahaha I try. Good luck tomorrow."

"You too, Mr. Wright."

In two days, with Athena's help and a bit of Pearl's help, Apollo was able to prove Maya's innocence and find the real killer. Phoenix and Trucy eventually came back and celebrated Maya's victory with everyone. Unfortunately, it came out of Apollo's paycheck.
