Chapter 64
Looking at the closet mirror now, Namjoon thought he looked happy. He felt like for the first time in a while, his image mirrored the exact emotions he was feeling. His lips would stretch into a small smile every once in a while, and his eyes would glisten in excitement from time to time.
He eyed the well dressed reflection of him; A black turtle neck that showed off his fit body, tucked into an equally black trouser, paired with a black blazer, and a pair of black shoes. He was going all out tonight with the colour. A Rolex watch was clasped around his wrist, matching the colour of his belt.
He fixed his cuffs, eyes trained on his newly done hair, fluffy with an undercut. He looked good, hell, Namjoon felt good. It was his mates birthday today, and the omega had chosen to invite a few friends and family over for the gathering, Namjoon had no objection to it as long as it made Seokjin happy. It also provided him with the platform he needed tonight for his plans.
He took one last glance at the mirror, confirming his appearance and the security of the package in his inner pocket.
Namjoon had to admit that even his underlying excitement, and his raging good looks didn't conceal his growing anxiety, he was unusually awkward with his hands, wanting to keep them in his pockets at all times, or just down right confused on where to put them without looking suspicious. He seriously felt like he was hiding something dangerous.
He smiled nervously at himself all while he chanted 'its going to be alright' in his head. He honestly didn't think he would feel these kind of jitters on a day like this, or ever. He was the alpha, he was confident and head strong, things like this didn't scare him. Oh but it did. . .
He took a deep breath, walking back into their room, expecting Seokjin to be dressed already, or almost at least. But the omega was seated in their bed, his pink short robe still securing his body, and his comfy fluffy slippers still on his feet. He was leaned against the head board, legs straightened before him, the computer on his lap and his mouth chewing away to snacks while he watched whatever it was he was watching.
"Baby, why are you not getting ready?"
"Am not going." The omega replied simply, not paying attention to the alpha by the bed now.
"What do you mean your not going." Namjoon asked worried, this could turn left so quickly. He had experience first hand the Omega's mood swings. "They can't make my clothes delivery tonight, am already tired, and the star in this drama died." The omega cried pointing at the screen before looking up.
"Jin-"
"He was really handsome." He whined looking at the alpha
That had Namjoon moving forward and shutting the laptop. They had plans in few minutes and the omega was gushing over some acting guy, who probably had nothing on him.
"Heeeey." The omega whine again, trying to open back the computer but Namjoon put a grip on it. "Baby, it's your birthday, you need to get ready."
"I don't have anything to wear." That was a lie, he had plenty to wear, they just didn't look pleasing to him like they did in the past few days. It's the reason he had ordered some clothes, which he was in turn informed wouldn't arrive the very same night.
"You literally have a closet full of clothes that you haven't even touched." Namjoon said to the omega who just pouted instead, looking at up at him with puppy eyes.
"It's your day today, and I want to spend it with you. The others too. You invited them remember."
"Yeah, but that was three weeks ago, I was young, reckless and in a good mood. Now am older, I just want to cuddle, and watch more drama." He grumbled, knowing he couldn't turn away from a dozen of guests, and just do what he wanted.
"I want that too, later though. Now we need to celebrate your birthday. See?" Namjoon gestured to himself, the omega finally having to a good look at him. Seokjin bit his lip unconsciously as he took in the official yet sexy look the other had on. He looked hot, not as hot as he looked naked, but still...
"You like it?" Namjoon asked eyeing him back. Seokjin only nodded, a blush coating the tips of his ears. "Go put something on too. You know you look fabulous in anything." Seokjin wore a lopsided grin at the other flattering him. He bit the inside of his cheek once more before nodding.
"Ok, I'll go see if everything is ready downstairs. Be down in fifteen ok?" Namjoon said, knowing it was going to be half an hour or so before the other showed. "Fine. I'll try to hurry." Seokjin said, lowkey still wanting to watch the ending of the drama. Namjoon must have caught on, pulling along the laptop as he stood.
"I'll just hold onto this until later." The alpha said with a knowing grin. Seokjin groaned once again, falling back on the bed as Namjoon walked from him. "Fifteen." He shouted as he walked out the door, hearing Seokjin shout back something at him. He smiled at himself keeping the computer away to another room before going downstairs.
He liked how the indoor was decorated even if it wasn't the venue for the event. It was dimly lit, littered with beautiful flowers, candles and pink balloons. It served as an entry way, and a mood setter to the guests who would be dining in the backyard. It was only a few of their friends, present family and some close work friends. Seokjin had decided it that way, wanting to keep the circle small to those who he valued and we're of importance to him.
It had been six months of pregnancy, and Namjoon couldn't be possibly happy at how things were going, he loved the ups and downs it brought along, and the first of a lot of things they were both experiencing. Today would possibly mark another new beginning for them, and Namjoon couldn't wait to spend it with his mate.
He inspected everything, checking if the food was ready, and the guests in attendance. He gave a few more orders for the night, like what to serve his omega, and what not to, given the pregnancy and all. Wine and seafood were off the table, the latter always making the omega nauseous now days, especially if he saw it in bulk. Weird.
By the time he was done, fifteen minutes had already gone by, nearing half an hour really. He resisted the urged to go upstairs, or call the omega, wanting to him to take his time for his day.
He paced at the bottom of the stairs instead, running his plan for tonight in his head, he thought about the things he wanted to say, or how he wanted to say them. He thought about the gift he had gotten the other; if he would like it, or not. If he would come out a winner today too, or maybe not.
Namjoon hated to admit, but he knew today could possibly not go the way he was hoping, after everything they had gone through. They still had a long way to go, and maybe it wasn't the right time, or maybe it would be overwhelming for Seokjin, but he had to do it. He hated to admit, but a part of him was prepared to be turned down.
His thoughts and pacing was interrupted when he heard the footsteps coming down the stairs. He looked up to be met by the angel that was his mate. Hair tucked nicely in a maroon beret, showing off only a part of his of forehead, and few of his silky strands. His ears were highlighted with sparking diamonds, lips covered in a nice lip balm that brought the thickness out of them, and complimented the rest of his beautiful face.
He looked good in the v neck he had on, accompanied by matching maroon pants, and a large coat over him to compliment his dressing in the winter. He looked gorgeous to say the least. Namjoon thought so.
"Oh, I know am handsome, you don't have to stare." And let's not forget the overflowing confidence.
Although that didn't stop Namjoon from doing another once over. He brought Seokjin to his arms when he was close to him, smashing their lips in a kiss to devour those delicious lips of his.
"Damn, do we really have to be in time." Namjoon said as he licked his lips, hands tracing the other's hips over his coat. Seokjin smirked, "Why? you want to go back up and take these off me?"
"If you keep talking like that I will." The alpha grumbled keeping his nose in the other's neck. Scenting him thoroughly for the night. It was a warning to anyone out their that dared to come close to his mate, and his pup, and essentially to get him covered in his scent and vice versa. Seokjin let him, basking in the feel of the alpha pressed to him.
When Namjoon pulled away, they shared an intense kiss first, tongues dwelling to share a passionate message. "Happy birthday baby." Namjoon said pecking the Omega's lips. He fished into his pockets, pulling out a two wing diamond chocker.
No words needed to be said as he walked around Seokjin moving the large coat a bit before clasping the it around the Omega's neck. "I love you." Namjoon whispered to him, lips meeting the skin of his neck, and hands going around his body to rest at his bump. Seokjin shivered, eyes moving to the expensive jewelry that hang from his neck, a clear set of initials present between the shining beads. It spoke volumes, and Seokjin heart beat picked as he admired it.
"Thank you, it's beautiful." He said turning in the other's arms to place a kiss on the alpha's cheek lovingly. "Let's go?" Namjoon urged taking his hand. Seokjin nodded, walking with him through the house.
The Omega's eyes would widen occasionally at the beautiful decorations covering the place, not able to comprehend it was all for him. He wasn't a party type of person for his birthday, he preferred a romantic dinner night with his mate, maybe some flowers or chocolates too, but the past months had been a lot, and he wanted to appreciate the people who had been there for him and Namjoon along the way.
They got to the backyard, Namjoon opening the door for him, and leading him to the space filled with his close friends. They all turned to look at him and Namjoon before erupting into a series on uncoordinated 'happy birthdays.' which brought Seokjin a laugh.
It was already lively, some music playing in the background, while people served themselves to drinks and treats. The place was equally beautiful, especially the long dining table by the end. White nicely done curtains were tied to the poles supporting the structure, groups of balloons tied at each corner, and bouquet of flowers and huge lights placed strategically at places. Seokjin loved it.
He also loved how his close friends and family were present, and he moved forward with a smile to greet his dad for a start. The man being closest to him. "Thank you so much for coming." He said to his dad who wished him a happy birthday, and teased him about getting older.
Yoongi was present, and so was Hoseok and and miss Suyun. Jackson had come along with his mate, and Wendy had brought along a date too. Namjoon's mother was present, giving out an apology for the absence of his husband to which Seokjin assured it was fine. A few more work mates, and family friends of theirs were present too, and Seokjin made the work of going around and welcoming all of them, Namjoon doing the same on the other side.
When they finally sat down at the dining table, his stomach was grumbling, and his earlier sugar rush had only left him hungrier. Namjoon and him sat at the top of the table, hands clasped under the covers as the guests moved around to help themselves to the various dishes, wishing him a happy evening and conversing amongst themselves.
Seokjin found himself talking to Namjoon's mother, the initial shock of actually seeing Seokjin expectant still on her face. Seokjin laughed about it, before introducing her to miss Suyun, who was sitting beside her, stating that she was like a mother to him.
He proceeded to chat with different people as they ate away the evening, laughing at the stupid embarrassing stories his family and friends told each other over the table. He had to admit he was having fun being the center of the attention, even if they just plain out embarrassed him. Especially his dad, who brought along some baby pictures and showed off to crowd.
Everyone seemed to be getting along, even Namjoon and Yoongi. And Hoseok. The three had put away their difference for the night, and Seokjin appreciated that.
It went by fast, dinner dwindling from plates, knives and spoons, to glasses, wine, and bottles of champagne. Seokjin had Namjoon beside him along, the alpha asking if he was fine, and occasionally placing a kiss on his cheek or his lips. "Are you ok?" Seokjin asked when the alpha fidgeted on his seat for the nth time that evening. He hadn't said a lot either, only smiling at him and kissing him.
"I am, just really full from the potatoes."
"Yeah, those were really good." Seokjin smiled before pecking his lips. "Thank you for doing this, am having so much fun." He added, the alpha only squeezing his thighs in response.
"I would like to make a toast." Hoseok shouted over the table, standing up and capturing the attention of the guests. Seokjin smiled nervously knowing the beta might embarrass him more. The said beta raised his glass of champagne, eyes glistening with sincerity that had the table quiet, including Seokjin.
"I would like to make a toast to my best friend, you are the strongest kindest soul I know. I love you so much, and I wish you many more happy years of life. Happy birthday sweets." Hoseok said, the table echoing his last sentence before drinking along.
Namjoon tried to swallow a growl at the nickname.
Seokjin mouthed a thank you to the beta, drinking his strawberry juice, and holding Namjoon hand under the table just in case.
A lot of them followed with the toast, showering him with praises, and compliments. Seokjin relished in it, trying not to be overwhelmed or brought to tears when some of them spoke. Like his dad for example.
Then it was his alpha's turn, the table going quiet as the alpha stood. Namjoon smiled at him, squeezing his hand that he was now holding. Namjoon stared at him for a moment, his eyes rich with fondness, it made Seokjin feel comfortable. At home.
"I wouldn't be able to echo the things that everyone has said about you, because they are so many, numerous, and true. You are an incredible human being, Your loving, your caring, and your compassionate. Not just to me, but to the world around you and beyond. For that I would like to make a toast to you. I hope you live a long life, to continue blessing the world around you with your existence and energy. Happy birthday Love." Namjoon said, taking a sip of his champagne, the others cheering and doing the same.
The alpha didn't sit down though, he put aside his glass, but remained rooted, eyes hovering over the table to shush them, then at Seokjin who only smiled at him. When the table was quiet enough he spoke again.
"You know, I thought real long and hard about what I wanted to give you for your birthday this year." Namjoon started, smiling down at the omega. "There were plenty of options, some really creative, some beautiful, some that really fit you." He said, the guests finding humour in that.
Seokjin didn't know why everyone was laughing, but he smiled shyly anyway.
"But none of it was enough in my eyes. I couldn't find any that could quite fit what I wanted for you. There isn't a lot of material things in this life that I could give you to really appreciate you enough." The table sparked with a series of ouuus, and awwws.
"You deserve more than the world love." Namjoon continued. His eyes left the omega a second, raking over the guest for a second with a smile. "Then I thought about everything that you've given me."
"All the random gifts, and the thoughtful presents you have given me every now and then. I thought about how you have given yourself to me, wholly and willingly, and how your giving me another part of you now. Us." Namjoon said referring to their daughter, and Seokjin smiled, eyes whirling with tears.
"You've given more than I could ever ask for. You've loved, cared, protected and provided me with everything I need in this life. You have made me the man that I am today and I am thankful, because I certainly know that I don't deserve it, I don't deserve you." Seokjin finally let his tears fall when the other looked at him.
"Am not perfect, far from it really. But am hoping to spend this journey of a long life with you. The ups and the downs, the good and the bad. Am hoping I get to stay by you forever. That is why for your birthday, I wanted to ask you to give to me again, I wanted to ask for another chance to by you, and with you." Namjoon turned fully to him, kissing his hand, Seokjin blinking in confusion.
"For your birthday today, I wanted to ask you gift me the title of being your husband." Seokjin's hand flew to his mouth, eyes wide, and tears flowing freely as Namjoon kneeled one knee in front of him, fishing into his pocket to reveal the small black box which housed a rock of diamond meant for his finger.
"Kim Seokjin, will you marry me?" Namjoon spoke, eyes serious, with a small nervous smile. He tried to ignore the sharp gasps all around the table, and the different eyes that were piercing at them. His focus was on the omega who was still stunned in front of him, all skills of speech seemingly leaving him.
Namjoon hoped that was a good thing.
"Baby?" He asked as Seokjin looked between the ring and him repeatedly, while someone in the crowd occasionally shouted 'say yes.'
Seokjin finally nodded, a small yes leaving his mushed lips, before bringing out that same shaky hand to which the alpha fitted a ring on his finger. Seokjin brought him into a kiss after as they stood up. The guests erupting in applause. "I love you so much." Namjoon told him as they repeatedly kissed, Seokjin still stunned but happy. "I love you too." Seokjin answered in tears.
He had not seen that coming, much less expected it. It made him kiss the alpha over and over again forgetting there were people around. Yoongi had to start complaining, the others agreeing with him, while others just pervertedly stared at them.
Seokjin smiled as they pulled apart, wiping at the alpha lips that were stained in some his pink lip balm.
Namjoon couldn't even get another word in as the omega rushed past him to show the others his ring.
He laughed at himself, signaling for the cake to be brought out, and more drinks to be added. Congratulations were thrown out in the air, to Seokjin more than to him. Even his mother was huddle with most, admiring the Omega's new Jewel, and throwing compliments his way.
Namjoon was long forgotten, but luckily, or unlucky for him, Yoongi walked his way. Face free of emotions like always. The alpha stood quietly beside him, sipping on his glass of wine, both facing the crowd that was surrounding Seokjin.
"He looks happy."
"You don't." Namjoon countered to the alpha's flat statement, a grin forming on his face when Yoongi turned to glare at him. "What? You seriously look like you want to give me a beating."
"I wonder why?" Yoongi said sarcastically, rolling his eyes. Namjoon only laughed, knowing Yoongi wasn't as mad at him anymore, although that pent up frustration was still present.
"How about a fight over the weekend. Let's go out to the boxing house downtown and have a good match. Just you and me." Namjoon proposed eyes meeting Yoongi in a challenge. He knew they needed to harsh it out as men, alphas. So that they could move from it once and for all
"That's your best idea?" Yoongi raised a brow.
"If you don't accept, your a pussy." Namjoon stated knowing the reverse psychology would work on the alpha.
"Your on, alpha." Yoongi said in a low tone. Accepting the challenge. Finally. He didn't wait another second as he walked away to see his brother.
"Sounds like a date." Namjoon shouted after him, to which Yoongi flipped him off. Namjoon only laughed, eyes searching for his omega in the crowd. When he found him, Seokjin was looking back at him, eyes filled with excitement.
'I love you.' The omega mouthed to him.
