Shen Yuan is the protagonist of Scum Villain's self saving system, a bl novel written by our beloved Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (墨香铜臭, Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù).

Originally he was a 21st century web-novel nerd named Shen Yuan who died due to food-related incidents. He died while cursing Proud Immortal Demon Way, a stallion harem novel about the darkened protagonist Luo Binghe, who had a harem of still unknown no. of women (definitely more than 1000).

Shen Yuan's personality has been remarked to be extremely gentle and warm with a flawless mannerism. He described himself in his first life as a 'pretty little boy waiting to die', though for this fic we'll take his first life's appearance to be similar to that of Shen Qingqiu (the person he transmigrated into in svsss).

In this fic, he looks like Muzan (obviously! they're twins!!) with straight black hair falling down his back (opposed to Muzan's curls) and light green eyes (these are the two things that differentiate the twins in this au).

Shen Yuan is an extremely elegant man with a scholarly air. He slips out from the distant noble son persona into a warmer, caring man towards his family.

He also posses a thin face (Ai; Gets embarrassed easily), and would typically withhold affectionate gestures out of shyness when in public (sometimes even otherwise).

contrasting to the refined aura he tried to project, most of Shen Yuan's thoughts consist of him freaking out at various plot developments and sarcastically commenting on the situation. He has a colorful internal dialogue which will be visible throughout his pov in this fic, slipping into his original personality by berating the author of pidw for writing the ridiculous plot points even though he's in a completely different world. As such, both the novel svssa and the animated series tends to portray him as a calm, introverted and aloof teacher on the outside, but a nervous, needy and a mess of a person on the inside. I'll try to reflect this throughout this fic.

Shen Yuan began his transmigration while looking through the lenses of a reader where everything that happened was merely plot developments and the people were nothing but characters. As his character developed, he began to bond with them and realize that the people around him were actual people and treated them as such rather than mere caricatures. As of yet, he still thinks himself separated from all this and thus doesn't want to be the family heir, but he's also bonding with muzan.

History

Shen Yuan was the third son of a rich Chinese family who spent his days idling about. He had two older brothers who carried over the family's business and a little sister whom he spoiled, giving him ample free time and money to squander on the internet.

Shen Yuan mostly spent his time reading webnovels, particularly a famous stallion erotica by the title of Proud Immortal Demon Way by Airplane Shooting Toward the Sky. He was truly passionate about the plot and worldbuilding but hated it for squandering all its potential in favor of cheap plot development and pornographic material. This drove him to faithfully follow the story but criticize it with deep, thorough analyses, becoming an anti-fan so well-known even the author himself knew him.

As his favorite novel drew to a close, Shen Yuan was so incensed by the ending that he died through food-related incidents while cursing the novel.

He passed the exam to Beijing University, one of the worldwide top research university located in Beijing, China.

It is not canon that he was sick, but it's a personal head canon that many fic writers of svsss, as well as i, follow.

Now here's another important thing.

Originally, Shen Yuan had a system to guide his transmigration. In this au, he doesn't. This had repercussions.

One is that Shen Yuan's memory is very faulty. he remembers his death, but nothing much. He remembers all that he's learn only because relearning some of the basics in this new life triggered his knowledge of science and maths. learning a little of the music and painting was enough to help him connect to his former hobbies. he remembers pidw because of its close relations to his death. he remembers his family because his current mom and muzan remind him of his own mother and younger sis.

He does not remember demon slayer, there's nothing to trigger that, i mean, the kibutsuji name triggered it, but only the fact that he's transmigrated into a fictional work, he doesn't remember the storyline because he read it a long time ago.

so, Shen Yuan doesn't belong to me, he is an actual existing character of another book, belonging to mxtx. the only reason i tagged him as oc is because ppl of the kny fandom don't know him, thus can treat him as oc. he isn't an oc though!!
