summary

daisy evans didn't think at the age of nineteen she would have become a mother. that hadn't been something she had planned, or thought about, but now she had a one year old baby in her house who kept scaring off the babysitters by making things levitate.

she just didn't know how she was ever going to tell him that she wasn't his true mother, who had been killed by someone so evil she had been told not to speak about it again.

Daisy Evans had not known what to think when a man had arrived on her doorstep, an idle motorbike behind him with her nephew bundle in his arms. Tears had been streaming down his face and all she had been able to do was open the door and invite him in. It didn't take a genius to work out that something truly terrible had happened.

Now she was a nineteen year old with a year old baby, struggling to make ends meet because she was unable to finish her degree. Or, she was able to finish her degree if her nephew didn't manage to scare off every single baby sitter by making things hover in the air and scaring all of them. She was at her wit's, and her bank accounts, end.

Until, a month after her nephew showed up, another appeared at her door. This time, he wasn't a crying man holding a baby, instead a somewhat smartly dressed man her age, looking conflicted. He had introduced himself as Remus Lupin, explained his connection to her sister and had not been freaked out by Harry flying around the room.

So now, Daisy was living with her dead brother-in-law's best friend and her nephew, trying to complete a nursing degree, all the while having to work out whether or not she had feelings for the strange man who would disappear every full moon.

Why couldn't things be less complicated?

additional notes

i. this is not quite a marauders era piece but not quite a golden trio piece, it's somewhere in between. the pairing for these two is stressed x more stressed and god knows Remus and Daisy need a break

ii. remus lupin spends the first part of this book trying desperately to impress daisy, all the while struggling himself. he can't find a job, because he's a werewolf, and he's trying to recover from the war and the loss of his closest friends. he's very scared when he realises he has feelings for daisy because everyone he's cared about is dead, but he keeps finding her asleep across her books and he adores it. he loves helping her with uni work at the like, and he's oh so apologetic. about half-way through the book or so, remus can reveal he's a werewolf and their relationship kind of takes a hit, because she doesn't know what to think and then it recovers. but it is very slowburn, cause they are both grieving at the start

iii. daisy is deep in grief at the start, because she's lost both of her sisters and her parents in the same year. her parents died earlier, lily died and petunia was estranged from her younger sister. she's very much alone in her parent's old home, and is always worrying about money, and having to work odd jobs to pay the bills. remus gets dressed in his best suit to meet her and practically in the first few hours of meeting him, she invites him to live with her because she's so desperate to finish her degree and start work. she begins to really like him after he and Harry bring her flowers and cook for her after a tough day.

iv. things that show they're in love; sharing cardigans, doing the crossword and sudoku together, cuddling under a blanket, healing each other after tough days, slow dancing to the radio, reading aloud and giving each other books as gifts, soft kisses, late night walks, hushed laughter in libraries, helping each other to study, having at home dates with harry, remus watching daisy and toddler harry dance in the kitchen, late night talks by the fire, silent support, she calls him rem

v.  it would be quite cool to either have a part two for when harry's in hogwarts like after year 3, and where remus is teacher and all that, because i think daisy's reaction to all of it would be incredibly funny - like her reaction to sirius black, harry's godfather escaping prison and tracking harry and remus at school, harry being in a high risk of death competition, harry getting tortured at school, harry hunting for horcruxes and harry in a war - she'd have so many grey hairs by the end of it from stress

vi. if not, then it would be quite cool to have an epilogue or something where daisy and remus are sending harry off to the train or something, and she's super nervous but she's remembering her parents sending lily off to the train and hoping her sister would be proud of her

vii. i think we can see what would happen with rem and daisy's relationship, but i can kind of see them getting married when harry's like 8 and them adopting him so he's harry evans (cause remus would probably take daisy's last name instead of keeping his) but i don't know whether they would - 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐬 - have kids, if they did they would probably have a daughter with a flower name to honour lily, don't think they would have a son and call them james though, cause harry's middle name is james
