So ,,, you want to write a Slytherin OC,
good for you! Lets bring some other
houses to our OCs 2020. Anyways, I've
realized while attempting to read fics (Bc
again, I don't read often) that many
people write two types of Slytherins.

It's either the Slytherin OC who is
inherently bad, a pureblood who wants
power and is following in their parents
footsteps with being a death eater. Or,
it's a Slytherin OC with a HUGE heart
and everyone loves her. It's nothing
in between or nothing that really shows
an OC.

All Slytherins are not evil. Lets say it
again. All Slytherins are not evil. Now
that that's been said, let's get in the meat
of what you should do to create an OC
fit for the Slytherin house.

Slytherins are considered ambitious and
cunning. They will do anything to get to
the top. That's why most of the people in
power within the ministry (especially
people in law) are from the Slytherin house!
They're constantly figuring out easier and
more effective ways to things. Your OC
would be the same. Your OC would strive
for the best in one or two subjects (or
even all of the subjects!). Your OC
will fit into the house Slytherin but that
doesn't mean that's all your character will
have traits of.

As I said before, I think there are so many
people placed into a house that doesn't fit
their personality. In many ways the sorting
hat places you in a house based off of where
you want to go. Your OC can push for Slytherin
even if that's not where the sorting hat wants
it to go. Because of that, your OC can have traits
commonly found to other houses.

Yes, your OC can be nice. Yes, your OC can be
brave. Yes, your OC can be smart. Being in a
house does not outright define what your OC
will be like. You will base certain things off of
that fact and that's very important to do so,
but it's more important to have a dynamic
character as well. You don't want an OC that's
in Slytherin just to be in Slytherin. That's not
portraying what Slytherins really are.

There are plenty of Slytherins that were against
Voldemort, but they all got trapped up with the
people who supported him. Not all Slytherins are
the same, that goes for any house.

What I think is important is planning your
character first and then choosing the house you
think best fits them. And if you truly want an OC
to be in Slytherin & their traits are the opposite,
then your OC can choose to be in Slytherin.
That's never wrong to do & honestly I love characters
like that.

Hogwarts houses and ocs are always hard to
figure out, but if you remember that your
character is better being three dimensional instead
of two dimensional you can reach a new level
of amazingness with the said OC!
