Chapter 16

Hawks slowly opens his eyes, feeling disoriented as he expects the searing pain that never comes. Glancing around, he realizes he's being carried aloft by someone. Looking up at his rescuer, his eyes widen in disbelief.

"Touya...?" Hawks utters, though he quickly dismisses the idea as his Touya looks different now.

"Are you alright?" The stranger's concern is palpable as Hawks groans, his grip tight on his injured stomach. Touya's doppelganger watches him with worry etched across his features.

"I'll get you to a hospital!" the stranger insists urgently.

"No! No hospital... my handlers... they'll find out and take it!" Hawks gasps, his breaths coming in short bursts as panic starts to grip him.

"If not a hospital, then where am I supposed to take you?!" The stranger's desperation matches Hawks'.

"Recovery Girl... she knows..." With that, Hawks succumbs to unconsciousness from the loss of blood.

"Mama? Mama! Damn it!" Hato's heart races as he gazes downward, watching his father valiantly battle the Nomu.

"Go! Get him to safety! I will take care of this!" Dabi's commanding voice cuts through the chaos. Without hesitation, Hato nods, his resolve firm, and swiftly takes off toward U.A.

Racing into the campus, Hato bursts into the infirmary, his breaths ragged, his form splattered with blood, and Hawks cradled in his arms, his condition dire. Desperation emanates from Hato's eyes as he looks to Recovery Girl for aid.

"Put him down here," she instructs, indicating a nearby bed. Hato complies, gently laying Hawks down as Recovery Girl begins her assessment.

"Go. I will treat him."

"But-" Hato begins to protest, but he immediately falls silent under Recovery Girl's harsh glare. "Let me work and wait outside."

Nodding dejectedly, Hato exits the infirmary. Collapsing into a nearby chair in the hallway, he takes shaky breaths, his gaze fixed on his blood-covered hands—his mother's blood—and he waits.

Meanwhile, Dabi manages to defeat the Nomu. As the Pros and Police rush in to arrest him, he gets teleported away, similar to what happened in Kamino. Back at the bar, he collapses onto the couch. Toga and Twice rush to his aid, applying ice packs to cool him down. Overheated and smoking from overusing his quirk, Dabi is in rough shape.

The other League members, minus Shigaraki, watch with concern, hoping for Dabi's swift recovery. Their thoughts also turn to their friend Hawks, worrying about his condition.

Several hours later, the infirmary door opens, and Recovery Girl emerges. "I'm done," she announces.

Startled awake, Hato shoots up from his seat. "How is he?"

"He's asleep and will recover. I managed to heal him mostly, but he will need his rest now," Recovery Girl explains.

"What about the baby?" Hato's voice cracks as he struggles to maintain composure.

"The baby is fine," Recovery Girl assures him.

Relief floods through Hato, and tears well up in his eyes. "Can I see him?"

Though hesitant, Recovery Girl agrees, moved by Hato's desperation. Rushing into the infirmary, Hato sits down next to his mother's bed. Various machines hum and beep around them, filling the room with sound.

"I'll keep him here for the night to monitor him," Recovery Girl says before granting them some privacy.

Hato gazes at his mother, noticing a slight improvement in her condition but still feeling a wave of concern wash over him. "Hey, Mom... you really scared me back there. I thought I was gonna lose you... I love you so, so much. Please get better soon," he manages to say before succumbing to tears, tightly holding his mother's hand.

As he sobs, he senses several familiar presences entering the room—his cousins. Setsuko offers a comforting hand on his shoulder while Itsuki and Shosuke stand nearby, silently offering their support. As the night wears on, his cousins eventually depart after receiving assurances from Recovery Girl that their Uncle Hawks is stable. However, Hato adamantly refuses to leave his mother's side.

Though initially resistant, Recovery Girl relents, permitting Hato to stay but insisting that he call her immediately if any issues arise. Exhausted and emotionally drained, Hato eventually drifts off to sleep, still clutching his mother's hand tightly throughout the night.

The next morning, Keigo awakens to aching limbs and a foggy mind. Struggling to open his eyes, he finds himself in a sterile hospital room, surrounded by the beeping of machines. Panic sets in as he realizes his predicament. "Am I in a hospital? No! My handlers... they'll come for me, and they'll know about my baby too! I can't let them take it, I have to leave!"

Attempting to move, he feels a weight restraining him. It's then that he notices the person clinging to him—the same individual who had saved him. As he examines the figure more closely, Keigo can't help but notice the pristine white wings adorning his back, a striking resemblance to his childhood best friend Touya, now clearer under the harsh hospital lights.

The boy startles awake at Keigo's movement, his expression shifting from concern to relief upon seeing Keigo conscious. "You're awake! How do you feel?"

"Uhm..." Keigo hesitates, wary of revealing too much to a potential informant from the commission. However, the familiarity he senses in the boy's presence prompts him to let his guard down slightly. "I feel sore," he admits, his mind racing with concerns about his unborn child.

Noticing Keigo's distress, the boy reassures him, "Don't worry, Recovery Girl said your baby is fine."

"Recovery Girl? I'm not in a hospital?" Keigo looks around, confusion clouding his features.

The boy shakes his head, offering an explanation, "Nope, you're at U.A. You told me to bring you here, remember?"

"Vaguely..." Keigo turns his attention to the boy. "What is your name?"

"... Hato."

"Hato, huh? I like that name."

Hato chuckles softly, a hint of irony in his tone. "You did name me."

Recovery Girl enters the room, drawing their attention. "Ah, you're up. Wonderful," she says, standing beside Hawks' bed. "How do you feel?"

"Sore, and everything hurts," Keigo replies.

"That is to be expected. I just need to run some more tests. Hato, please leave," Recovery Girl instructs. Hato nods and exits the room, casting one final glance at Hawks before departing.

As Recovery Girl conducts her tests, Keigo inquires, "Is he a student here?"

"Yes, you could say that," she replies cryptically.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Keigo presses, growing frustrated.

"That's confidential," she states firmly, refusing to divulge further details.

Instead of returning to the dorms, Hato makes his way to a familiar bar. Upon entering, he is met with the League of Villains, who regard him with confusion and suspicion.

"You! What are you doing here?!" Toga demands, brandishing a knife.

Dabi groans wearily from his seat on the couch. "How is he?"

Recovery Girl reassures him, "Hawks will be fine, and so will the baby."

Dabi's eyebrows shoot up in surprise. "Baby? What baby?"

"Oh, shit. I gotta go," Hato exclaims, his expression shifting to one of sheepishness before he swiftly departs.

"Oi! Don't just fly off! Get back here!" Dabi calls after him in frustration.
