Part Twelve
Jimin felt his heart drop into his shoes when he sees the look on Yoongi's face. He hadn't done anything wrong, but with that look that was being given he felt like he had. It was a mixture of hurt, sadness, but most of all, anger.
He was looking from him to Jazmine, his expression becoming angrier by the second, making Jimin realize what he must think is going on. Of course it wasn't that, though Jazmine had hoped it could have been, but it wasn't anywhere near that. He had no feelings of the sort towards Jazmine, he only felt that way towards Yoongi. He opens his mouth to say as much but Jazmine cuts him off by wrapping her arms around him and smiling over at Yoongi. "You know my boyfriend, Yoongi? I guess Daegu is a little smaller than we thought," Yoongi looks back towards Jimin, the hurt evident in his eyes. "Boyfriend?" Jimin's eyes grow, and he immediately dashes Jazmine off of him. "I am-" She cuts him off once again. "Yes, he's my boyfriend. I was toying with you when you were working, seeing if I could get a rise out of you. I was going to tell you, but seeing the look on your face now is priceless. Jimin, meet my ex-boyfriend Yoongi, but it seems like you already know each other,"
Jimin felt the world spinning around him as he hears her words echo through his ears. Ex-boyfriend. This was even worse than he originally thought. This wasn't just Yoongi thinking that Jimin was out with someone else. This was Yoongi seeing the person he was currently talking to with his ex. He had become friends with Yoongi's ex. The look that Yoongi was giving him was icy, his expression more hurt than anything now, making Jimin's heart ache. He couldn't imagine the thoughts that were racing through Yoongi's mind all because of Jazmine's false words. "Yoongi, this is not what it looks like at all, please, let me explain," Yoongi just shakes his head before turning away. "I think I've seen enough," He begins walking away and Jimin starts to follow. "Yoongi wait!" His cry falls on deaf ears as Yoongi continues to walk, refusing to listen any longer.
Jazmine grabs Jimin's arm and smiles up at him. "It's okay, he's just a bitter ex. And maybe you two were friends, but maybe this is for the better! Come on, let's go get that burger," Jimin looks down at her, snatching his arm away and glaring into her eyes. "You just lied about us being together to him and for what? Why? I already told you I'm not interested and you ruin something that you have no idea about!" Jazmine starts to backpedal, not thinking that this would be that much of a big deal for Jimin. How close could he even be to Yoongi anyway? But she didn't want to lose what she and Jimin had, at least what she wanted them to have. She succeded in making Yoongi jealous, but she had to keep Jimin in order to keep that plan going. If not, she would have to crawl her way back to Yoongi and hope that he was jealous enough to take her back. This had to work, this was exactly what she had been working towards.
"Jimin, I'm sorry. Our breakup was hard and I just wanted to get back at him, that was all. Then I met you and I just wanted to try things out. I didn't mean any harm in anything that I said, especially if you two were friends-," Jimin cuts her off, an incredulous look on his face. "Friends? Friends? Oh Jazmine, you don't know the half of it," He doesn't wait for her to answer, turning around and hurrying past all the stores until he sees the familiar mint green hair in the distance. "Yoongi! Wait please, let me talk to you," Yoongi doesn't stop, nor does he acknowledge Jimin's calls, keeping his gaze forward as he continues to walk. Jimin nearly sprints to catch up, gently grabbing Yoongi's arm. "Yoongi.." Yoongi moves his arm out of Jimin's grasp, but does turn to look at him. His face is unreadable, his expression seeming to be nearly blank. "Don't you have a girlfriend to see about?" Jimin shakes his head and tries to explain. "Yoongi, it wasn't what you thought it was. She was-" Yoongi holds up his hand, cutting off his next words. "I don't even want to hear it. Any of it," He lowers his hand and looks straight into Jimin's eyes. "Was any of it real? All of the conversations, the dates, any of it? Were you talking to her this entire time, working with her to deal one final dagger? Were you even into me, Jimin?"
Jimin looks at him with near disbelief. "Of course! I still am! I haven't lied to you about anything that I've said or told you.." Yoongi slowly touches the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. "I have to get back to work. I think we should cancel dinner tonight, I don't want to see you right now" Jimin begins to protest, but doesn't get to say anything before Yoongi turns away, walking back into the crowd. He didn't know exactly what he was feeling, but it felt like his heart had deflated like a balloon. He felt the bag he was holding get heavier in his hand, the weight of the present feeling like a rock threatening to knock him over. He continued to watch Yoongi until he disappeared completely, swallowing the lump that was trying to form in his throat.
—---------
Jimin had been home for a couple of hours, having been back and forth between the living room and his bedroom. His grandmother was gone for the time being, having gone into town to see one of her close friends. He had hoped that she would be at home so he could tell her all that happened, wishing to hear some of her wisdom and guidance, but he only had himself. He didn't know what to do, he felt heavy and sad, but also angry at the same. He didn't know whether his anger was directed towards Yoongi or Jazmine. Jazmine was most likely getting the brunt of it, causing all of this in the first place. Yoongi got a sliver of it because of the fact that he didn't listen. If he'd have listened, Jimin would have been able to tell him everything and they probably would still be having dinner.
The only thing that Jimin knew that he could do in this very moment was to talk to the two people who he knew were available 24/7, no matter what he needed. He laid across his bed now, pulling up Facetime on his phone, calling his two best friends. They both pick up immediately and upon seeing Jimin's face, Taehyung gets concerned. "What's wrong? You look awful. I haven't seen you like this since-" Jungkook finishes for him. "Your last breakup. Oh Jimin, what could have possibly happened?" Jimin tells them everything, including what Yoongi told them about their breakup, pointedly pointing out how stupid he was for not asking Yoongi what his ex's name was. This could have changed the whole game, he would have had his radar up in the first place. Jungkook immediately starts to shake his head. "Jimin, no. Don't start blaming yourself for that bitch. She started all of this for trying to lie and hurt him even more than she already has. That is definitely not on you," Taehyung nods his head in agreement. "He's right, don't blame yourself for any of that, you're innocent,"
Jimin sinks into the mountain of pillows on his bed and sighs. "Then why do I feel so crummy? And why did Yoongi push me away without hearing my side?" Taehyung smiles and holds out his arms, his dog jumping up into his lap before looking back towards his phone. "Probably because he's so hurt. I mean, from all that you said about his ex, he was most likely blocking out everything that had to do with her, which unfortunately included you. He felt like he had to get away from you to get away from her as well," "I think that's the case too," Jungkook pipes up, having gotten up to get something to eat, propping his phone up in the kitchen, pulling out a pack of spaghetti noodles. "I don't think he was trying to push you away, it was just a defense mechanism of the heart. Maybe he didn't want to be hurt again, we've all felt that way," Taehyung nods in agreement, snuggling his dog, and Jimin sits on their words.
It wasn't unreasonable to think that, Yoongi had looked visibly upset. Angry, yes, but mostly hurt. Maybe he was blocking him out because of Jazmine, not trying to hurt Jimin, but protect himself. But he wouldn't be able to believe that without hearing it straight from the horse's mouth. There was something else that he felt, something that he was afraid to admit out loud, but felt it was time. He had been feeling this way for weeks, hadn't told anybody, not even his grandmother, but after everything that had happened today, he had to say it. "Guys, I love him. All jokes about love potions aside and being entranced. I feel something when I'm with him and it doesn't feel like one of those fleeting relationships like I've had before. This, this is stronger," Jungkook smiles widely, starting to cook. "You hear that Tae Tae? You were right, he's in love. Not puppy love, but real love," Taehyung laughs and smiles brightly, giving Jimin one of his winning smiles. "And when you're in love with someone Jimin, what do you do to keep that love?" Jimin didn't even have to think about it, he already knew the answer. "Chase after it,"
—--------
Some time after getting off Facetime with Jungkook and Taehyung, Jimin's phone dings. His heart leaps, hoping that it's Yoongi changing his mind about dinner, but instead is met with a text from someone he had a few bones to pick with.
Jazmine: Jimin can we talk? I really want to make things right.
He should have blocked her the moment he left the mall, that would have been the best thing to do. But at least now he can give her a piece of his mind.
Jimin: what is there to make right Jazmine? You lied to Yoongi about us being together, what does that give you? Power over him? Satisfaction? What did you possibly gain out of that, because you surely didn't earn any respect, especially from me.
Jazmine: I told you he was a bitter ex, we had a hard break up. I just wanted to get back at him
Jimin: you keep saying he was the bitter one, but I don't think that's the case at all
You're the bitter one. You're upset that he left you. Well if it isn't the consequences of our own actions.
I'm not stupid, I know more than you think I know about how your relationship ended. How you treated him. Don't try and spin the narrative on me, I know all about you
Jazmine: and how would you know what happened? Surely you weren't that close for him to be spilling everything to you.
Yoongi doesn't just tell anybody anything. You're just bluffing because you're upset
Jimin: oh we're closer than you think. Much closer. And for you to think that lying to him like that was going to get you somewhere with me even after you figured out we knew each other is ridiculous.
What type of fucked up delusions do you have? Are you trying to make him jealous and think you moved on so that he'll come crawling back to you? Do you think this is some sort of game to play with emotions? Do you think that shit is cute?
You're not going to get anywhere like that. Nobody is going to want to be with you, especially not me. I gave you a chance because you seemed like a nice person and I wanted to make a new friend in the Daegu area. Nothing more, nothing less. But now that I've seen your true colors and know exactly who you are, that is entirely out of the window.
You're a narcissistic bitch and you never deserved Yoongi. He deserves more than you could ever possibly give him and I'm glad that he broke up with you when he did. You cheated on HIM? HIM? That's downright disrespectful. I'm glad he moved on from you. Who the fuck do you think you are?
You never cared about anything that he did, none of his passions, none of his goals. What makes you think he would come back to you? And what makes you think after you lied on MY name that I would still want to be around you and talk to you? There is nothing for us to talk about Jazmine and I suggest you find a life to live before you try and pull some shit like this again.
Lose my number, matter fact, I'll lose yours.
Jimin watched as Jazmine's text bubble appears to reply, but he blocks her before she gets a chance to say anything. He sighs, his chest rising and falling from anger. She had single-handedly messed up Yoongi's life once and was trying to do it twice out of spite. He hoped to never see her or hear from her again, for Yoongi's sake. Thinking of Yoongi made his heart flip, making him subconsciously look at the clock. It was exactly 8, when Jimin was supposed to go over for dinner. Yoongi had not texted him once since he got home and he couldn't exactly blame him.
His fingers tapped their message thread and he types out a simple message.
Jimin: Can we please talk? If you don't answer in 20 minutes, I'm coming over.
His finger hovered over the send button, hesitating. Had Yoongi blocked him? Did he even want to see Jimin again? Were all the dates and sleepovers and gifts in the past? Was he going to have to put Yoongi on the list of failed relationships that he had? No. No, he was not. He hits send immediately and waits.
He was not going to give up on this, not after what he had just told Jungkook and Taehyung. He felt something for Yoongi, he loved him. Out of everyone that Jimin had been with, Yoongi made him feel all giddy, like a little kid getting a sweet treat. And the butterflies that have been with him since the first couple of days that they had met still flutter in his stomach from the slightest touch, a smile, or kiss. The entire world could be imploding and Jimin wouldn't even notice it if he was with Yoongi. He wasn't going to let him go, not this fast.
Five minutes slowly go by and then ten. Jimin was starting to lose hope when his phone dings. He lifts it up immediately and braces himself for a rejection, expecting Yoongi to break everything off. But instead he is left with three words.
Yoongi: I'll be outside.
Jimin couldn't even stop himself from flying out of his room. He makes a split second decision to take the necklace for Yoongi with him, placing it into his jacket pocket as he hurries down the stairs. His grandmother was a little startled, having come back a few hours ago, but gave him a quick kiss as he headed out the door. His pace was quick and with a purpose, knowing it wouldn't take him long to get around the block. His heart was about to pound out of his chest, thinking about what could potentially happen between them. What if Yoongi was only calling him over to break everything off? What if he was about to lose him?
Jimin neared Yoongi's house and sure enough, Yoongi was outside, leaning against his car. He was twisting his black ring, one of the first gifts Jimin had given him, around on his finger slowly. He looked to be deep in thought, which didn't seem to bode well for Jimin at all. He stops nearly right in front of him, knowing that Yoongi can feel his presence, but he is still yet to look up, continuing to twist his ring. The tension could be cut with a knife, the silence deafening. It was too much and Jimin couldn't handle it. "She was lying," he blurts out. "We weren't together, nothing was happening between us, she made it all up!" Yoongi says nothing but looks up at him, having left his ring alone for a moment, but Jimin couldn't stop talking, he had to get him to understand. "Yes, I did befriend her, but I had no idea that she was your ex. I didn't put it together because you never told me her name and I wouldn't have befriended her had I known! I thought she was just going to be yet another friend that I made in Daegu, I didn't think that all of this would happen! I have never wanted to hurt you Yoongi, I never would. And I know you're upset and you have every right to be but-" He was quieted with the feeling of Yoongi's lips, the lips he had come to love. He was so surprised by the action, he couldn't even kiss back before Yoongi pulled away, touching their foreheads together. "I know," he says quietly. "But with all the hurt that I have associated with her, I believed her," Jimin said nothing, simply listening to him.
"I didn't mean to take out what I was feeling in that moment on you. I just felt so angry and hurt from seeing you two walking out together that I just spiraled. I wasn't listening to anything you were saying and when she said you were her boyfriend, I just shut down. I didn't want to deal with any of it so I just blocked everything out. Even though I knew for sure that she could be lying, I couldn't help but shield myself from everything that was going on. I should have listened to you and I'm sorry that I didn't. If you are upset with me and want to just break all of this off, I understand. I have too much going on in my mind and I don't want to burden you with that," Jimin separates their foreheads and looks at him with a surprised expression. Yoongi thought that he was upset with him, instead of it being the other way around. Jimin shakes his head and takes his hand. "Yoongi I'm not upset with you, I thought you were upset with me. I admit I did feel a little upset earlier, but not anymore. I just wanted you to hear me and understand that I wasn't trying to hurt you," Yoongi looks down at their hands and holds Jimin's tighter. "I'm sorry for not listening, none of this would be happening if I just listened to you," Jimin smiles and shakes his head. "All couples argue, maybe this was just our first," Yoongi raises an eyebrow, a smile creeping onto his face. "Oh? Couples? Are we a couple now, Jimin?" Jimin's cheeks flush, refusing to answer him before looking down at the pavement. Yoongi gently touches Jimin's chin, making him look back into his eyes. "Answer me.." Jimin looks up at him, getting lost in his eyes like he always does, whispering. "I'll answer you after I give you your gift," Yoongi tilts his head curiously and relents. "What gift?"
Jimin reaches into his pocket and pulls out the box that he has been carrying with him in his pocket, almost thinking that he would have to take it back. He holds it out to Yoongi, his lips curling up into a smile as Yoongi looks down at the box and back at him. "What is this? Another ring to add to my collection?" He opens the box, his smile widening as he sees the necklace, slowly pulling it out of the small box. "It matches mine..." Jimin reaches up and touches his signature necklace, knowing that Yoongi knows exactly what it signifies. He watches as Yoongi sets the box down on the hood of his car and holds out the necklace towards him. "Put it on me..." Jimin takes the necklace from him as Yoongi turns his back to him, moving his head slightly so that Jimin could get to his neck better, the smile still on his face. He knows what he's doing, Jimin thinks. It was obvious where this could potentially lead, but Jimin complied anyway.
He moves in close, moving his arms around Yoongi's neck. Being this close to him, Jimin could hear him breathing, and could nearly see his chest moving up and down with each breath that he took. He places the necklace against Yoongi's neck, making him jump slightly, the metal being cold against the delicate skin on his neck. Jimin made sure to brush his fingertips against his neck, knowing that it would be a stark difference compared to the cold the necklace brings. Yoongi turns around to face him, their eyes locking together immediately. Yoongi looks down at the necklace around his neck and back up at Jimin. "I like it...I think it suits me just like it does you," It was inevitable and Jimin knew it, knew it even before Yoongi pulled him close by the collar of his shirt. "Now Jimin, you didn't answer my question..."
Jimin opens his mouth to answer just as it starts to rain. They both look up as the clouds open up and the droplets begin to hit their faces. It was light enough to not soak them immediately, but heavy enough to do something. Jimin laughs to himself, Yoongi joining him as the rain slowly dampens their hair and their clothes. "Before we catch a cold, let me rephrase what I said. Jimin, I love you..." Jimin breaks his gaze away from the sky and looks towards Yoongi, surprise riddled on his face. "It has only been a few weeks since we've been seeing each other and I love you. I have never felt like this with anyone so fast before. Forget about what happened today, I don't want that to weigh us down. I want this..I want to make us official..." The words were lost from Jimin's mouth, he couldn't speak, his heart was beating out of his chest. "Jimin..will you-" Jimin stops him by simply placing a hand on his chest. He couldn't hear anymore, his heart would explode from happiness if he did. The smile that was on his face was huge, it hurt, but he didn't care. This was all he had been waiting for, all he had been wanting since that first flutter in his chest.
Yoongi.
"You don't even have to ask me...I made up my mind a long time ago," Yoongi's smile widens just about as much as Jimin's as he moves closer, their lips hovering mere inches away from each other, both of them nearly soaking wet now, their hair slick and dripping, not caring about anything else but each other. He whispers, his breath warm against Jimin's lips. "Then let me hear your answer..." His butterflies were fluttering with each beat of his heart, his entire body buzzing because of the man standing in front of him. There was only one true answer that he could give him "Yes..." before closing the little space between them with a warm kiss, the rain continuing to fall around them.
