Part 9
Later that night
I anxiously bite my nails, waiting for Jin to come home.
"How could you not know anything about him?"
No, Jungkook could be lying. Maybe he said that so that I'd leave Jin.
Right then, the door clicks open & Jin walks into the living room.
"You're home." I smile at him & rise from my seat.
"What are you doing sitting there alone? Is something bothering you?" He returns my smile as he undoes his tie.
A surge of sorrow hits the center of my chest as I scan his jolly expression.
Is all this just a front for his damaged soul?
Not able to hold it in anymore, I abruptly pull him into a hug & bury my face in his chest.
"왜 (wae=why)? Did something happen?" Startled by my sudden display of affection, he asks.
"Jin ah, you have told me nothing but the truth, right?" I sniff.
I can feel his muscles freeze all of a sudden underneath my touch.
"Y/n ah, listen to me. Whatever Seoyeon told you is a lie. Don't listen to her." He pushes me away & searches my face in panic.
"Seoyeon? What's going on with Seoyeon?" I look at him completely confused, as to why my best friend's name is suddenly mentioned.
His mouth gapes open for a few seconds before he laughs out loud.
"Oh. Nothing. I thought- Anw, what's up with you today? You look tired." He cradles my face in his hands & stares gently into my eyes.
"We've been together for so long & we're going to be husband & wife soon. If you're struggling, you'll tell me, right? If you experience any hardship or feeling sad, you'll let me know, right?" I lean into his palm & caress the back of his hand.
"Of course. I will tell you everything like I have always done. I will never lie to you." His voice is sincere, but a sliver of doubt still remains in my heart.
There's only one way to confirm the truth.
I press my lips against his & hastily unbutton his shirt. Once his shirt is off, I take his hand in mine & flip it upwards.
A small smile curves the corners of my lips as I see his smooth wrist.
Jungkook is lying. I knew it.
"I love you Jin." I whisper as I pull him close & lean my forehead onto his.
"I love you too Y/n. Whatever happens, please remember that." He says before kissing me deeply & enveloping me in his warm embrace.
The following day
The delicious smell of breakfast wafting in the air awakens me.
I look to Jin's side of the bed & it's empty.
My lips lift into a lazy smile as I snuggle deeper into the fluffy blanket which is still heavy with Jin's scent.
Last night was definitely the best night I've ever spent with Jin. He was so passionate that it kinda took me by surprise.
Everything feels right again. I realize that as long as Jin & I love each other, nothing else matters. Not Jungkook. Not Jin's mother. Not his past. Nothing.
I get off the bed, wrap a bathrobe around my body, & walk out of the room.
Jin's naked back is visible from the bedroom door. I chuckle inwardly & grabs the apron on my way to him.
"Hey, aren't you scared that you're going to burn yourself?" I chuckle as I hang the apron around his neck from behind & tie it up.
"You're up already? Breakfast will be ready soon, just wait for me at the table." He says without turning around.
"Alright." I kiss his bare shoulder & sit down on the dining chair.
Right then, I hear my phone buzzing inside the room so I go to fetch it.
It's a text. From Jungkook.
Friday night, Jungkook POV
I read & re-read the message I sent to her this morning.
Finally, all of this will be over soon.
I enlarge her profile picture & trace the line of her face with my thumb.
What the hell? Why am I feeling uneasy?
"Jungkook ah, can you help us get a new bottle of vodka?" My friend calls out.
"Ok! I'll go get it!" I quickly close the chat window & sneak my way through the busy crowd in the club.
"Beomgyu ya, another bottle of vodka please." I holler at the bartender behind the bar.
"Gimme a minute. I'll serve this to the customers first." He says before walking to the other end of the bar with a few shot glasses in his hands.
While waiting, I sit down on one of the stools & scan my surroundings.
Huh.. Why doesn't this excite me anymore?
Then my eyes catch something that I'm probably not supposed to see.
Jin dragging a woman behind him.
And she's not Y/n.
"Beomgyu ya, I'll be back!" I shout at him & hastily follow Jin.
Stretching my neck, I search for him among the dancing figures, but I can't find him.
Maybe it wasn't him.
Just when I'm about to give up, I see him with that woman standing under the shadow at a quiet corner.
I cautiously make my way towards them & hide myself behind a wall, but still close enough to hear their conversation.
"What the fuck did you say to Y/n?!" Jin furiously yells at the woman.
"I didn't say anything! I don't understand what you're talking about!" She shouts back.
"If you dare to blab your mouth, I-"
"Jungkook ah! What are you doing here? We've been looking all over for you!" Suddenly, one of your friends hooks his arm around your neck from behind & exclaims.
"Oh, uhm.. I was going to the restroom. I'll be back in a minute. You go ahead." I quickly push him away.
Shit, I hope Jin hyung didn't hear us.
I take a peek at Jin again, but he's already gone, along with the woman.
What the hell was that?
Saturday morning, Y/n POV
9:57 AM.
I sip my coffee & excitedly wait for Seoyeon to come to our favorite restaurant.
It's been so long since I last talked to her due to the whole ordeal with the wedding planning. I feel like such a bad friend for not reaching out to her, so I bought her a little something for her yesterday.
"Y/n ah, sorry I'm late." Seoyeon pantingly plops down on the chair across me.
"It's ok. I was early. Where were you from?" I scan her rosy cheeks & plump lips.
"Oho. Who was the lucky guy you spend the sensual night with? Spill." I teasingly shoves her hand.
"I'll tell you later. So what's the thing that you need to tell me?" She smilingly asks.
"That Jungkook guy. He finally agreed to divorce." I whisper as a huge grin spread across my lips.
Seoyeon's cup of coffee hangs frozen in her hand on the way to her lips.
"Seoyeon ah, did you hear what I said?" Her lack of reaction confuses me.
"I did. Sorry, I suddenly remembered something. Anw.. how come he agreed to divorce now? Didn't you say that he was extremely opposed to it?" She snaps out of her thoughts & asks.
"I have no idea. Maybe he's realized that I'm not the gold digger that he thought I was. Now, your turn. Oh, before that, I have something for you." I fish out the ribboned box from my bag & slide it across the table to her.
"What's this?" She picks it up & turns it around in her hands.
"It's a small gift for you. Open it." I smile at her.
"Oh wow, such beautiful earrings. Thanks. Can I try them on now?" Her eyes light up as she picks them out of the box.
"Sure, go ahea-" My tongue suddenly goes numb.
I watch Seoyeon putting a strand of her long hair behind her left ear, revealing the earring dangling from her earlobe.
That same earring that I found in Jin's car.
My eyes can't help but follow the earring as she takes it off & places it on the table.
That's impossible.
"Y/n ah, does it look pretty on me?" Her voice becomes barely audible, like an echo from far away in a huge cave, as my mind running at different directions chaotically.
"Y/n ah, are you ok?" She shakes my hand, brows furrowed.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. The earring suits you really well." I force out a smile, but my eyes are still glued on the earring.
I can't be mistaken. That's exactly the same as the one I found in Jin's car. But he told me that it was his mom's. Could it be pure coincidence?
"Uhm.. Seoyeon ah, your earrings look pretty. Where did you get them?"
"You think so? This pair is my favorite. Got it from the accessory store near my office. I've worn it a couple of times when we hung out, remember?"
No wonder it looked familiar.
"Oh really? I must have been not paying attention at the time."
"Actually, I lost it a while ago so I haven't worn it in a long time, but then somebody found it & returned it to me. Ommo, why do you look so pale all of a sudden? Are you sick?" Frowning, she touches my forehead in concern.
Are you cheating with my fiancée?
"O-Oh, nothing. I just suddenly feel very nervous about this whole wedding thing. Haha.." I decide not to ask her that question, because I'm afraid that I'll break our friendship.
"Don't worry too much. You guys are the most perfect couple I've ever met." She squeezes my hand.
She doesn't look guilty at all. Maybe the earring really was his mom's. Maybe it really is just a coincidence.
"I need to go to the restroom real quick. Be right back." She rises from her seat & leave the table.
I quickly retrieve my phone & take a picture of the earring. My heart is beating very fast. I'm scared to know the truth, but I have to.
I anxiously bite my nails, waiting for Jin's mother's reply, but she doesn't even read my text.
Come on. Answer me. I really need to know NOW.
"Sorry it took me so long, there was a line in the restroom." Seoyeon's sudden return startles me.
"It's ok. So.. about this guy you're seeing. What's his name? Do I know him?" I quickly put my phone away & ask.
My heart is hammering inside my chest. I pray profusely that she'll say any name other than Jin's.
"Uhm.. I can't tell you his name yet, but you do know him.." She answers sheepishly as she hugs her cup of coffee with both hands.
"I-I do?" The suspense is killing me. I feel like my heart will stop at any moment.
"Yeah. In fact, you've known him for a long time. We used to hate each other, but one night everything changed. He put so much at risk for me & we couldn't leave each other no matter how hard we tried. So, we ended up being together." She chuckles sweetly, her eyes filled with so much love & tenderness.
I can't help but feel that she's depicting her story with my fiancée. She used to hate Jin a lot, come to think of it, now she never says any bad thing about him anymore. Jin, on the other hand, still states that he dislikes her until recently.
But what if he lied to cover up his affair with her? Is it really Jin? No, that doesn't make sense. It doesn't match her attitude & statement earlier. It must be another man. I know that they wouldn't do this to me.
"Where's Jin btw? Is he working?" Her question breaks my train of thoughts.
"Oh? He told me that he had to go out of town for a project yesterday & he'll be back tonight."
See? She would've known if she had an affair with him.
"Ahh, I see.. Sorry, I need to answer this." She unlocks her vibrating phone & a frown appears in between her brows.
"What is it? Is something wrong?" I ask in concern.
"I'm truly sorry Y/n ah, but I need to go now. My manager texted saying that I have to go to a go-see in an hour." She apologizes.
"Oh ok, that's fine. Your work is more important. We can meet again another time."
"Thank you. You're always so understanding. I'll text you later & don't forget to tell me how it goes with that Jungkook guy." She says as she gives me a quick hug.
Her sweet vanilla scent fills my nostrils. She's been wearing that perfume since forever & my brain has associated that smell with home & comfort.
"Sure. Good luck Seoyeon ah." I instantly relax & smile at her.
Yes, there's no way that she's having an affair with Jin behind my back. How stupid am I to doubt my best friend & fiancée?
My phone buzzes & I readily unlock it.
The calm I felt turns out to be the fleeting quiet before the storm.
