Chapter Seventeen
•Finn•
"Where are we going?" I ask my sister as she pulls Flame Princess and I through the crowds that are just beginning to thin because the Boo Ball is coming to an end.
"We're leaving. It's time to go. The others are waiting," Fionna explains before we arrive at the exit to see everyone else.
Well, everyone else but a certain Vampire.
"Hey," I say, looking around. "Where's Marshall?"
Marceline shrugs. "We were asking the same thing," she says.
"We haven't seen him," Bubblegum says.
"Maybe he's in the bathroom?" Gumball suggests.
Cake rolls her eyes. "Great. We go to a school dance and you lose Marshall. Just great. Can he even survive on his own? It wouldn't surprise me if he's already gotten himself into trouble!" she says, shaking her head as if to say she was ashamed of us.
"It's okay. He couldn't have gone far, plus he wouldn't leave without us," Fionna says. "Now, let's all split up and look for him, that way we'll find him faster."
We all nod, agreeing with Fionna's plan before we all split off in different directions to search for Marshall.
I decide to stay by the exit and linger around there to see if Marshall would just randomly drift over here. I look around for any sign of him, but see nothing.
I turn a corner and look there, but still nothing.
Good glob, where could he have disappeared to? Is he suddenly an escape artist now? And why wouldn't he tell us where he was going?
I turn back around the corner and start to head back to the exit.
Then I see it.
A door I hadn't noticed before it suddenly opens.
And out steps none other than Marshall Lee himself.
I am about to call out to him and tell him we've been looking for him before I notice something else; he isn't alone.
Another person steps out from behind the door.
My eyes almost fall out of my skull when I identify the person.
"Ashley?!" I whisper to myself in surprise. I make sure to keep my mouth shut after that though, just in case.
Suddenly I realize Marshall and Ashley's clothes are all disheveled and wrinkled. Their hair doesn't look too neat either. When I see Marshall zip up the fly of his pants it occurs to me what had just happened.
I almost gasp, but I stay quiet.
Marshall looks around to make sure no one is watching before he seems to relax. Ashley doesn't seem to care whether or not someone sees them.
Ashley suddenly leans in towards Marshall to give him a kiss, but he pulls away before her lips can brush his. He pushes her off him and glares at her. She just smirks back and blows him a seductive kiss before she turns and leaves.
She walks right past my hiding place. I don't so much as breathe.
When she is gone, I turn to look at Marshall, who has closed the door and is now leaning against the wall, running a hand through his raven-black hair, frustrated.
I leave my hiding spot and immediately approach Marshall.
I am about two feet away from him and he hasn't noticed me. I keep walking.
Then I am foot away from him. He still doesn't see me.
So I clear my throat and speak up. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Marshall jumps a bit before his head whips around to look at me. I stop walking and am now standing right in front of him with my arms crossed.
I hope I look as pissed as I am.
Marshall's eyes widen. "God, Finn! You scared the shit outta me," he mumbles. "Next time don't sneak up on a dude..."
I repeat my question. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"
"Uh... waiting at the exit for the others to show so we can all go home...?" Marshall sounds confused, but looks nervous at the same time considering the fact I had basically walked in on him and his ex-girlfriend. "What else...?"
My eyes narrow. "Cut the crap, Lee. I saw," I say bluntly, quick and to the point.
Marshall just stands there for a second as a worried look crosses his face. "Er... W-What are you talking about...?" he asks innocently, which just makes me madder.
"Don't play dumb with me, Marshall. I saw you and Ashley come out of that closet after playing a round of hide the cucumber," I spit, hearing myself say it making me even more pissed. "Why did you just do that with her? Why?! What the hell is wrong with you?!"
Marshall glares back at me. "What the hell is wrong with you? Since when are you in charge of when I do or don't get some? And since when do you control who I get it from?" he snaps.
I want to slap him. "I don't, I'm just pissed off you think sleeping with your bitch of an ex-girlfriend is gonna get you places! It's NOT. You've already been through that toxic relationship with her! You told me yourself! You said you were done! Yet, what I just walked in on doesn't say done at all! I thought you were done with her, done with all that drama!" I snap back. Why would he crawl back to his ex, who he thoroughly expressed he HATES several times? In what way is that a good thing to do? Especially when he's in love with someone else?
"Trust me, dude, a relationship with Ashley is the last thing I want!" Marshall says, holding his hands up defensively.
"Oh yeah? Then, why the hell are you HAVING SEX with her inside a CLOSET?" I question.
Marshall rolls his eyes. "God, Finn, I'm doing that just to get laid! There's NO OTHER reason! I most definitely do NOT love Ashley! She was just there and... Well, one thing led to another and we—"
I cut him off. "I don't need you to explain how it was done, thanks," I say with an involuntary shiver.
Marshall sighs before his eyes narrow at me. "Wait, why do you care anyway? Since when did the people I'm sleeping with become a concern to you?" he asks.
My eyes widen. "Are you serious? It became a 'concern' to me when I figured out you're in love with my sister! That's when! So, excuse me if I think sleeping around with your ex isn't going to help your chances with Fionna!"
Marshall groans. "This again, Finn? For the last time, Fionna doesn't and won't ever like me like that! It's NEVER going to happen! Deal with it! It's not like she'd care if she found out anyway," he says before his eyes seem to widen in realization. "But, please don't tell her! Or anyone else for that matter! I don't want anyone to know about this! This stays our little secret, got it? I mean it, Finn."
This time I roll my eyes and groan. I am definitely pissed Marshall is sleeping around with his ex-girlfriend when he claims to be in love with my twin sister at the same time, but I'm not a snitch and I'm definitely not a jerk. I sigh. "Fine. I'll keep your dirty little secret. Whatever. Just know," I say, looking around to make sure no one is looking or listening in, "this is NOT the way to win Fionna's heart. Not at all."
"Fine. Okay. I know. Whatever. I'll keep that in mind, even though it'll never matter considering the fact that Fionna doesn't like me like that," Marshall replies, crossing his arms.
I cross mine as well. "Fine."
"Fine."
"Good."
"Great."
"Excellent."
"Spectacular!" Marshall shouts, throwing his arms up in the air with finality.
"Um, what's spectacular?"
Both Marshall and I nearly jump out of our costumes in surprise at the familiar voice. We both turn to face Fionna.
"N-Nothing..." Marshall mumbles, and I nod along.
The rest of our friends come in from behind Fionna.
"There you are, Marshall!" Marceline says. "We've been looking all over for you! I guess it was a good idea that Finn stayed here."
Marshall glares at me as he talks to his sister. "Actually, I'm not so sure that it was..." he grumbles. When no one is looking, I flip him off in response.
Marceline looks confused, as do the rest of our friends. "Um... alright... Well, anyways, let's go home. It's getting late."
We make sure we have all our things before we all exit the school, the Boo Ball officially coming to a close.

The second Marceline and I arrive back to our cave, I didn't even bother taking off my costume as I immediately go to my room and crash on top of my bed. I'm just so tired, and so done with today.
The Boo Ball, overall, went okay, except for my run-in with Flame Prince. Even though I shut him up, it is exhausting just to be around him.
Oh, and that's not all.
Finn practically walked in on Ashley and me doing... well... something private.
He then proceeded to nag and criticize me, saying it was a horrible idea to sleep around with my ex because I am in love with Fionna.
I just roll my eyes, thinking about our stupid conversation.
Finn won't get it through his head that Fionna and I will never happen. No chance. Not at all. Zero. Never.
But, Finn doesn't seem to see that for some stupid reason.
He also doesn't seem to see that the only reason I had sex with Ashley was to try to get over Fionna. So far, it hasn't worked. Well, I probably didn't help myself get over Fionna when I pictured her the entire time Ashley and I were in that closet.
I've just got to stop thinking about Fionna. How hard could THAT be...?
