Chapter Four

Fionna

A week later, and it is the day of Bubblegum and Gumball's Birthday Ball. Of course, Marshall called me and thoroughly expressed how much he didn't want to go. I told him I wouldn't let him stay home because I had made him my plus-one to the ball.

When I told him that over the phone, anyone could hear the change in his voice. "Your plus-one...? As in, your date...? To the ball...?"

That made for a very awkward conversation. Of course I want him to be my date, but I couldn't tell him that! "N-No! Of course not...! You're just my plus-one! Everyone gets a plus-one...!"

"Okay then, Fi... Sure, I'd love to be your 'plus-one'..." Marshall had said.

The way he said it made butterflies erupt in my stomach. Because he said plus-one the way someone might say date.

Gosh, Fionna, calm the junk down... That's not what he meant at all... Besides, you know he'll never like you that way...

After that awkward conversation was finished, he said he'd come to pick me up. I said that was okay and then we hung up.

Finn doesn't have a plus-one, though I told him he should just work up the courage and ask Flame Princess already. When I told him that, he blushed and acted somewhat surprised as he muttered something about him having no idea what I was talking about.

Though I kept telling him he should just ask Flame Princess, he didn't listen to me and he never asked her.

Jake is obviously going with Lady Rainicorn, and Cake is obviously going with Lord M. So, at least I'm not the only one with a plus-one.

However, Lady and Lord M are going as Jake and Cake's dates, and Marshall is only going as my friend, although I wish he was going as much more than my friend.

Just as we are about to get ready, I suddenly hear a loud CLUNK.

Finn must've heard it to, because he looks up and says, "What was that?"

"I don't know...," I say. It sounds like it came from outside and fell on our roof. "I'll check." I go to the door and exit the tree house.

As I look all around, something suddenly falls at my feet.

I look down.

It's a knife.

Then I look up and see that several grey and black clouds are circling the sky. Then I see lightening and hear the loud clapping of thunder.

Another knife drops at my feet.

Suddenly, I watch as hundreds of knives fall from the clouds, getting closer and closer to the ground.

That can only mean one thing...

I immediately head for the tree house. "KNIFESTORM!" I shout as I run.

Finn hears me and immediately opens the door for me to run inside. Then we close the door as we watch the hundreds of knives fall like rain.

Knifestorms aren't too common, but once in awhile, they do happen.

And, you do NOT want to be outside in the middle of a knifestorm.

Jake enters the room and looks out a window at all the knives falling. "Oh. We're having a knifestorm. Thank glob none of you were outside," he says before he sits down on the couch.

It's then I realize...

"Marshall," I gasp. "He was supposed to be picking me up! He texted me and said he was on his way! What if he's hurt?" I start to panic.

"Relax, Fionna, he's immortal; he can't die... unless he's in the sun, which I don't think we need to worry about right now," Finn says.

I shoot him a glare. "Just because he's immortal doesn't mean he can't dieeveryone can die! He's NOT immune to that, you know!" I snap, definitely worried.

Finn presses his lips together before he lets out, "Oh... Right."

I roll my eyes and watch out the window, hoping Marshall had just turned around and went back home.

Unfortunately, my fear is confirmed as I see him flying frantically toward the tree house, using his umbrella to block out the knives.

My eyes widen. "Marshall!" I immediately open the front door for him to race inside.

When he is safely inside, Finn slams the door shut and locks it.

"Marshall! You're alright! Thank God!" I say as I immediately grab Marshall into a hug. "It just started to storm and I thought..." I can't finish my sentence as I am filled with relief that he is okay.

Marshall looks down at me and smirks. "Awwwww~! Was my wittle Fi-Fi worried about me?"

I pull away from him and look down so no one can see me blush. "N-No... I-I was just...," I stutter, and Marshall smirks even more. Then, I give him a light shove. "Shut up, Lee."

Cake enters from the kitchen where she has been listening to us and says to Marshall, "Where's Marceline? Is she okay?"

"She's fine; she's at home. She said she was going to meet us at the ball," Marshall explains. I let out a sigh, also grateful that Marceline is okay as wall.

I get a text from Bubblegum saying that the Birthday Ball is officially canceled because of the knifestorm. I ask if she and Gumball can hold it tomorrow, but apparently today is the only day they aren't busy. However, Bubblegum tells me she will try and find a date that is convenient for their schedule.

"Oh no...! The ball is canceled? How awful...! That means we won't get to go...!" Marshall says after I relay the news to everyone. With the way his eyes are lit up and how he's obviously trying to fight back a smile, I can tell he's faking his disappointment.

I roll my eyes. "Oh, be quiet, Marshall. It's no mystery you didn't want to go. Well, you win. Congrats."

Marshall smile. "I always win," he says smugly. Then, suddenly, he groans and doubles over.

I am at his side immediately. "Marshall, what's wrong? Are you okay?" I ask frantically.

He tries his best to stand up straight, and he smiles again, this time weakly. "About that... While I was on my way here, one of the knives may have or may not have nicked me..." Marshall lifts up his shirt and everyone gasps at the sight.

In his abdomen is a small knife that is in about two or three inches deep, so you can see half of the blade sticking out of him.

"Marshall, it didn't nick you, you've been impaled!" I exclaim.

Marshall looks down at the knife sticking out of his abdomen. "Huh. Well, now that I really look at it... I guess that's what it looks like, yeah," He touches it, and then winces. "Yikes..."

"Um, yeah, yikes!" Finn says as he stares at the knife.

"We need to get it out of him!" Jake says before he makes a grab for it. "I'll pull it out."

Before he can touch it, Marshall immediately pulls away. "No! You'll just carelessly yank it out!" he says.

Jake stands there for a second before he shrugs. "Yeah, you're probably right," he admits.

"I'll pull it out," Finn says before he grabs the knife and gives it a pull.

"Owowowowow!" Marshall shouts before he yanks away. "What the hell, Finn?! THAT FRICKING HURT!"

"I'll pull it out!" Cake says.

"No way, Cat, I don't trust you," Marshall says bluntly. Cake glares.

Then, Marshall looks to me. "I want Fionna to do it."

"What?" I say.

Everyone looks at me.

Marshall wants me to pull it out? Why me?

"Why me?" I voice my thoughts.

"Because, you're you. That's why. I trust you completely," Marshall says with a smile.

I feel butterflies in my stomach. He trusts me...

"Hey! Why don't you trust me?!" Finn complains. "I'm your best bro! Hello? Bros for life...!"

"Because, Finn, you'll just rip it outta me like you tried to do a minute ago!" Marshall snaps at him. "And, honestly, Cake and Jake would do the same thing!" As Marshall blabs on, I carefully wrap my hands around the knife's handle.

"You know, just because I'm immortal, doesn't mean I can't feel pain! Besides, Fionna is gentle. She won't just yank it out like you guys wou—"

Before Marshall gets to finish his sentence, I give the knife a huge yank and pull it all the way out in one swift movement.

"Like ripping off a bandaid," I say before I grab a nearby cloth and wrap the knife in it before setting it down on the ground.

Marshall had screamed like a little girl when I'd yanked it. He bites his lip and he squeezes the couch fabric with his hands. "Oh... my... glob... Fionna..." he whispers. He isn't crying, but his face is contorted in pain.

"I'm sorry, Marshmallow, but I needed to do that," I say.

"Don't think that using that nickname is gonna make me less mad at you!" Marshall winces at the pain.

"It usually works," I say before I go in the kitchen and get some gauze and a washcloth. "I need to treat the wound," I come back into the room. "Marshall, let's walk you to the bathroom and get this taken care of."

I wrap one of my arms around Marshall's waist and he wraps one arm around my shoulders before I walk him to the bathroom, him limping along the way.

Marshall

Soon, we make it to the bathroom and Fionna tells me to sit on the toilet. As I do, she puts the gauze down on the floor before she goes to the sink with the washcloth and douses it with some water. Then she comes back over to me and kneels down. "Go on. Take off your shirt."

Huh?

I blink. "Wait, wha--"

"Just take it off, Marshall. I need to treat the wound."

I smirk. "Alright, alright... Feisty, aren't we?" Then I pull my shirt off over my head. "There."

Fionna just stares at me. I watch as she blushes pink before she awkwardly clears her throat. "Ahem. Right. Uh...," Her voice falters. "Y-Your pants too..."

I look down at my pants and back up at Fionna. "I like where this is going," I smirk again.

Fionna blushes more. "Sh-Shut up, Marshall! I can't get to your abdomen through your pants. Just do it."

"My pleasure," I say before I unzip the fly on my pants and pull them down, which leaves me in my boxers.

Fionna turns as red as a tomato. I would be lying if I said I didn't like seeing her like this. "U-Uh... okay... Good..." she mumbles.

"Do I need to take off my boxers too?"

"N-NO! For love of God, Marshall, KEEP THOSE ON!" Fionna immediately shouts. "All I asked for was the shirt and pants, you perv!"

I chuckle. "Okay! Message received!" I say. "Just, hurry up and treat the wound already, it's starting to really sting like a mofo."

"I will if you shut up and stop moving!" Fionna say.

I stop talking and sit still.

"Thank you," Fionna says before she leans in close and begins gently dabbing my injury with the washcloth. Even though she's being really careful so she can cause me as little pain as possible, it still hurts like hell. I try my best not to make any noises of discomfort.

Finally, she finishes treating my wound and grabs the gauze from where she laid it on the floor. She then carefully wraps it around my abdomen, where my injury is. I feel my face flush at how close she is to me.

And, keep in mind I'm only in my underwear...

I am very aware of what she is doing. Her hands are not too far from a certain part of my body, which is also very aware of her actions...

Immediately, the thoughts swirling around in my mind make me blush fifty shades of red.

I thought I didn't even have the ability to blush! I'm a Vampire.

Well, apparently I do have the ability; the proof is how much I'm blushing right now--I can just feel my face heating up.

Why am I like this right now? I'm never like this with ANYONE.

Well, anyone but Fionna, apparently.

Soon, she finishes wrapping up my wound. She stands up. "Done. How's it feel?"

"Better. But I don't think I can walk..."

"Can you float? Fly around?"

"I don't think I can do much of anything right now. But, don't worry, I'm a Vampire; we're fast healers," I say.

I put my shirt and pants back on, and I can tell Fionna is relieved. It takes all the willpower I have not to burst out laughing.

"Well, until the storm clears up, you've got nowhere to go. So, I guess you'll be staying with us for the time being," Fionna says before she helps me up. "Come on, let's get you on the couch. We could all watch a movie or something."

So I limp back to the room with Fionna helping me stay upright. The others are waiting for us.

"What took you guys so long? What were you two doing, making out in the bathroom?" Jake says. Finn snickers.

Fionna glares at them. "Shut up, you two," she snaps.

"Honestly, you're like children," I say. Jake and Finn glare back at us.

"All of you are like children," Cake says. Then she looks at me. "How's that injury doin', Marsh? Did my babycakes fix it up, good as new?"

"Yeah, it's better now. Plus, I'm a fast healer, so it should be alright," I reply.

"Good," Finn says before getting a devious look on his face. "In the meantime, let's play a game."
