When Graydon Creed first founded the anti-mutant hate group known as Friends of Humanity, he believed that mutants were a scourge to humanity and didn't deserve to be treated as equals on Earth. He believed Earth was for humans and humans only. The Friends Of Humanity were willing to terrorize mutants and anyone that dared to support mutant kind. They were willing to destroy houses and various buildings that had mutants and anyone that allowed mutants to occupy their stores and such, the Friends Of Humanity were also willing to brutally kill mutants or anyone they deemed "mutant lovers." From their point of view, the Friends Of Humanity saw themselves as purists, but to a sane person of common sense, they were seen as a hate group. Even Deadpool wouldn't affiliate himself with the FOH. But Graydon Creed's goals of creating a humans only society were tarnished when he was outed as the bastard son of Sabertooth and Mystique, and the FOH kicked Creed out, despite the fact that he was a human born without any mutant powers.

After that, Creed swore revenge, taking a few FOH members who were split and stood by his side, and so together they hunted down the FOH council members responsible for kicking him out, and killing all of them, including their family members to ensure no bloodline would ever try to oppose Creed. And so Graydon reinstated himself as the leader of the group he had founded, and if anyone had a problem with him as their leader, Creed would guarantee these opposers would suffer the same fate as the traitors he had killed.

It was several days after Jake started his romantic relationship with Rogue and Graydon was having a meeting with his fellow members of the FOH. What the two lovers didn't know was that many Friends Of Humanity members had been spying on various mutants including the X-Men whenever they were in their civilian identities doing mundane activities, Jake and Rogue being one of them. Graydon was at the center of his usual podium, giving a hateful speech. "My fellow human purists," he shouted, "we are living in times of chaos because of these mutant scum! Local stores have the audacity to serve and help these disgusting creatures, these mutants take jobs that are good for real humans, and schools have the absolute gall to allow mutant freaks to go to school with our children! And now, look at this disgusting display of affection from one of our spies!!!" The spy then showed a slideshow projection of various photos of Jake and Rogue at the beach and at the mall, hanging out, holding hands, and kissing. "This disgusting mutant wench is known as Rogue, a freak of nature!" Creed continued, "she is a living parasite that is a danger to herself and others with her powers to absorb life forces with a touch, a kiss, or a hug! Do you want this abomination to be near your children?!?!?!"

"NO!!!" Creed's followers shouted. "Somehow, this southern piece of trash has managed to seduce this innocent young man!" Graydon accused, "humans and mutants do not belong together in a romantic relationship! It is unnatural and disgusting, it goes against nature! Real humans must marry their own kind! And that is not all, according to my spy, this non-mutant man is known as Jake Phillips Jr, he's a descendant of a brave patriot from World War II. Jake Phillips Jr disgraces the Phillips name by romantically involving himself with mutant scum!!! He's a mutant lover!!!" The hatemongers booed at Jake and Rogue, disgusted by their interspecies relationship. "We shall send a message to The Phillips family and these mutant freaks!!!" Graydon screamed, "they will learn through the spilling of blood that humans and mutants do not belong together in relationships of intimacy and love!!! And when Jake Phillips Jr and that Southern trash known as Rogue are dead, all mutants will know what we will do to their kind, and they will be put in their place and know that Earth is for humans only!" The friends of humanity members cheered at Creed's speech, constantly shouting such hateful sentiments as, "humans only!" and "death to the mutants!" Little did they know is that they would be semi wrong about Jake being human.
