45 v2
Cameron jumped when their luggage was finally closed. Looking at the corner of his eyes, he watched as Sharon zipped it up and stood it up. He had been extremely conscious of Sharon since the moment they woke up.
She had kept her silence since the moment he had returned last night. This was after he had laid out the truth as he'd seen it. Not a word was spoken during dinner and nothing in bed. They had slept soon after. The more time passed, the antsier he got.
He was getting itchy just thinking about it but he was determined to hold strong . She was clearly trying to make him feel guilty and he refused. He had said what he had in concern and it was all the truth. She could take what she wanted from that and deal with it
But as the minutes passed, as the clock ticked on, it was getting harder to keep this resolve.
Even now, he found himself opening his mouth to tease her or share a joke only to be reminded again of his decision. Then he had to consciously shut his mouth. If anyone was watching, it would be hilarious. He looked like he was miming a fish. But he was far from amused.
"Are you ready to go?"
Those words reverberated through the room, the very air vibrating from the words. Each syllable hit him like a truck. He had never realised how much impact words had until now. If he wasn't frozen by shock, he would be flopping around the bed by now. This was far from an over-reaction.
Those were the first words spoken in the room since last night. They should be commemorated. And the best thing was that they hadn't come from him. She had been the one to give in. Just thinking about it made it feel so surreal. He had to turn his head and look at her. He turned so fast that his neck cracked but none of that mattered. He had to make sure his ears were working.
Then his brows furrowed. Were his eyes working? She looked remarkably unaffected, as if this was just another conversation. And on any normal day, it would be. But, as time passed, he couldn't help the doubt surfacing in his mind. Had the coldness been all in his mind? Had he imagined the distance between them? Distance that appeared the moment he voiced his opinion? Did he feel so guilty after that that he created this chasm between them?
While he was questioning his very mind, he spotted the brief smirk on her face before she looked away It was small and quick, a tiny quirk of her lips, but he knew what he'd seen. And realising what that meant, he wasn't as mad as he thought he'd be. That didn't mean he was going to let her get away with it.
"Yeah,"he said, answering her query. Then, when she was busy with her bag, he sneaked up behind he, making sure to avoid making any sound. When she was finally within arm's reach, he lifted her up and threw her onto the bed.
Her shrieks and screams were music to his ears. Her limbs flailed slightly but with the bed being so near, she didn't hit herself. He looked on in satisfaction while she struggled around in their messy bed. That had felt therapeutic. The tightness in his chest was dissipating and he felt that it was easier to breathe. It was more helpful than any psychiatrist he had seen. Maybe he should do this on a regular basis.
But he didn't have time to let his mind wander. As she struggled to sit up, he braced himself for retaliation. Instead of that, though, she surprised him again. Expecting her to rush at him with whatever she could grab, she began laughing uproariously in bed. She was having laughing so much that tears were streaming down her face.
"Y-your face. It-it was so funny. You should have looked at your face,"she half-laugh and half-cried. He was chagrined. As the tension left him, it felt like he deflated slightly. Much like a balloon losing air. That wasn't the reaction he had wanted. She was throwing him off. Now he didn't know what to do. "N-now, too. Why are you looking like that? Like a, like a lost lamb."
"Why are you like that?"he returned, scowling at her. He didn't know whether to feel happy, angry or shock. His emotions were in turmoil and her carefree grin wasn't helping. "I thought you were mad or something."
"Why?"
"I don't know. Maybe it was something I said or something." His voice petered out at the last moment, much to his surprise. But it wasn't surprising. He wanted to confront her but the fear of the cold air returning made him chicken out. It was tough for him to hold back, to keep from talking and joking around. Now that it was over, he could admit it. It had hurt.
"Oh, Cameron,"she said with a sigh. She had finally settled down and was looking at him with soft eyes. "You have helped me so much. I didn't realise I needed those words until you said them."
He was shocked. Was she saying that because she meant it? Or was she just trying to comfort him? With their trip to this town, he really couldn't be sure. And she clearly saw his confusion because she got out of bed and went up to him. His arms reflexively came around her when she leaned into him.
"Why are you so confused?"
"You didn't say anything at all last night and now you say this? What am I supposed to think or believe?"
"I wasn't mad or anything but just needed to get my head straight. God knows what this place has done to me. I mean, look at how needy I was. It's like I reverted to that time before I left. I just didn't know that until you pointed it all out to me."
"So you're back to normal?"
"I wouldn't say I've completely recovered but I know how different I am now. How much stronger I am. And if I ever forget that, you are here to remind me."
"Thank God."
Relief made his limbs weak and he had to hold onto her to keep on his feet. He felt her stagger under his weight but he didn't care. He was just glad that everything was back to normal.
-----@@@-----
Looking at the building, Sharon wondered what was taking Cameron so long. She was currently waiting got him in the car while he settled to bill. It had been more than half an hour and sweat was really starting to drip down her back. Not that she wanted to do this but he had insisted.
She had had enough of cowering and hiding. No matter what anyone said, she was going to stand tall and proud. But when he was looking around and being all tensed up, she had given in. She knew what he was looking out for and decided it's best for everyone to be out of sight.
But as she got out of the car now, maybe that hadn't been such a great idea. He had been aching for a fight after she finally told him about yesterday. While that had been one of the reasons she had readily agreed to wait outside, she was doubting herself now.
Sighing, she made her way inside. The moment she neared the entrance, she could already hear raised voices and the underlying threat of violence. Recognising his voice, she was worried that he was going to do something stupid so she hastened to the counter.
It was a simple counter, beautiful but simple. A small wooden counter located at the bottom of the sweeping staircase. Their friendly staff would gladly help the guests with their questions and this also facilitates the check in and out process so that there's no delays.
Or that was what was supposed to happen.
Honestly, she had been looking forward to staying in this bed and breakfast. It was one of the best places in the entire town if any guests wanted to stay over. There had been many nice reviews. So she had been quite happy that they managed to get a room.
But as with everything in this town, she had been disappointed again and again. Apart from that time they checked in, they had come up short every other time. They had even been late to bring up their dinner last night. She didn't know why today was going to be an exception. She felt tired already.
"For the last time, we have a fucking flight to catch. Just take this key and give us back our deposit."
"I'm sorry but we are not able to process this transaction right now,"the staff said. She sounded very apologetic and her face was tight with stress but still, nothing was done. Cameron looked ready to reach over the counter and do it himself. Sharon couldn't let him do that. As his girlfriend and a representative from the agency, she had to protect him at all cost.
"What do you mean you can't process this?"she asked, rushing to the counter. The girl jumped but Sharon didn't care. Her attention was on Cameron. This was the angriest she had ever seen him. One wrong move and he was going to blow his top off.
"Ah, the system is having an issue and we can't do anything about it-"
"Bullshit,"he cut in. "You let that family go in ten minutes. You even let them cut the line. Why do we have that problem? Are you trying to be funny?" He was nearing his breaking point, to the point of leaning over the counter until his face was smack dab in front of her. Sharon had to pull him back, which was tough. It was akin to pulling a bulldog on a walk. A stubborn, resisting bulldog.
"Then fine. Forget the deposit. We'll just drop our keys and go. I have no wish to stay here any longer than necessary,"Sharon said. There was nothing else to do.
"W-what about the deposit?"
"What do you mean? Don't you know who he is? That is just pocket change to him. I'm sure we won't be pining over a few hundred bucks,"she sneered. She knew she sounded so stuck up and pompous but that was true. He could easily make more money. This was just a principle of the matter. And she didn't appreciate his grin and teasing eyes.
But while she wanted to put him down a notch, she just wanted to leave. A bad feeling was pooling in her stomach. And part of that was because of her behavior. She wouldn't be this sharp and rude to a person in the service line. God knows how much they had to deal with. But She wanted to leave immediately. There was a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"We can't do that. It's against the rules. Ma'am, I'm sure if you wait a couple more minutes, the system is going to be up and running-"
"There. Here's the key. Let's go, Cam." Ignoring her words, Sharon just placed the key on the desk and towed Cameron out. It would normally be impossible since she was much smaller than him but with him being distracted, he followed along.
"Ma'am, wait!"
"Let's get out of here,"Sharon told Cameron when they got to their car. About to open the car door, it was blocked by the giant that was Cameron. Eager to leave, she looked up and was about to push him aside but he suddenly enclosed her into his arms and covered her lips with his.
It was a hot, hard kiss. There was no room to escape. She felt like she was drowning. Drowning in his heat and fervor. Surrendering herself into this kiss, she was totally immersed, enjoying this until a sharp voice cut through the haze and desire.
"What an embarrassing display."
AN: Hey guys. How're you doing? Here's another chapter. Hope you like it.
What do you think? I like how sensitive Cameron after laying it on Sharon. I had a great time writing it. Do you guys feel like this? After a confrontation, no one feels like the first one to give in. Give in to what, I don't know but it becomes a battle of pride. I do feel like that a lot but give in first.
And Sharon begins to flexing their relationship. I don't think I did it much justice but I want to write more of that. LOL.
Anyways, please VOTE and COMMENT if you like it. Please check Accidental Babies on Amazon. Also, what do you think about Accidental Babies getting turned into a game? Hmmm....
In all, THANKS!!!
