Chapter 11
Sharon stood at the door of Matt's athlete managing office, Just Sports Management. She didn't know how she got there. Cameron had been bugging her the entire day about this. He talked about it while they were eating, washing the dishes, cleaning up the apartment; she regretted asking him to vacuum since he had been even louder and vocal. He had even tried to espound the benefits of working with Matt.
The last straw was when he held her ice cream hostage. He even had the nerve to say,'You don't need it.'she had attacked him, hitting him with whatever was handy but since he was bigger and more muscles, it had been laughable. When she had collapsed in exhaustion, he again tried to get her to try the job out. In a moment of weakness, she agreed.
Now, she was in Matt's office, waiting for him to finish a call. The office was pretty spacious, with a lot of posters of their clients' endorsement product. There were roughly 20 employees although like 90% were females. And not your ordinary female. These ladies were hot and dressed well. She felt dowdy next to them.
'Thank you for waiting,'Matt said as he placed the phone back to its cradle. Sharon smiled in greeting. 'Your job here is similar to a personal assistant. You are to get your assigned client to where they are supposed to be at the correct time. It may sound simple but let me tell you that these athletes are troublesome. Their egos are soo big and fragile that you would have to stroke it often and do it subtly. Or else they'll rebel against you. You have to strong in the face of anger and unreasonable demands. They think we have no life and live to cater their ever wishes. Which is true to an extent but you will have to say no if it's too unreasonable. Like sexual favours and anything you're not comfortable with. And you would have to be available to them at any time of the day-'
'Woah, woah. Information overload,'Sharon said, cutting in. Matt had been pacing about the office, he seemed to be on distress. Sharon got out of her seat and put a hand on his arm, concerned. 'May I know what's wrong?'
'Nothing's wrong,'he said nervously. He saw she was not convinced. He gulped. She squeezed his arm comfortingly. He looked down at her and basked in her concern. He sighed and visibly collected himself. He was back to the professional, collected, cool man that the world knew. She took her hand off him and went back to her seat.
'I'll bring you to someone who will guide you and mentor you until you are ready for your first client,'he told her. She nodded.
'I'm sorry to ask this of you but can I leave at noon?'she asked awkwardly as Matt brought her put of the office. 'Cameron wants me to accompany him to his meeting with his therapist. It's his stipulation for being forced to find one in the first place.'
Matt suddenly stopped and she bumped into him. He looked at her in astonishment. 'YOU forced him to do something he doesn't want? Something no one has ever done ever? You?'he asked in disbelief. She nodded slowly, a bit bewildered by his reaction. She didn't know it was going to be so mind blowing.
'Well, we had this disagreement and Cameron forced me to go to this interview. So in return, I forced him to find a therapist,' she explained. She was getting weirded out by the way Matt was looking at her. 'Um can we go find my mentor now?'
'Yes, yes,'he said distractedly. He threw more weird looks over her shoulder. She hoped this was not going to be a daily occurrence.
- -----@@@@@--------------
Only 3 hours into her job and Sharon hated it. She had been thrown to a dictator who wanted things done her way and only her way.
Melissa Barden was the quintessential horrible boss. She made Sharon do all the filing and data entry that were years old. Some of who had already retired. She even asked Sharon to get coffee for her meeting only to say it wasn't needed when she got back. Sharon was ready to tear her hair off.
On the other hand, Melissa was going about the office, gossiping about her clients with her colleagues, about her life, what to have for lunch. Basically doing nothing. Sharon hadn't known that someone could be soo beautiful yet selfish. She had learnt a lot about human nature but nothing related to her job.
'Hey Sharon,'Cameron said when he arrived at her cubicle. She gave him a wave and went back to her work. She was currently keying in data from 3 years ago. She wanted to get it done before she accompanied him for his meeting but the fact that he was there and she was not done indicated the amount of work she was given.
He came in and looked at what she was working at. He tore the paper away from her. 'What are you doing? This is like from 3 years ago. Why are you doing this?'
'Because my supervisor asked this of me,'she said, trying to get the paper back. Cameron evaded her every move, even holding it over her head. 'Cameron, I need to work. Give it back.'
He wrapped his arms around her, trapping her arms within his hold. However much she tried, wriggling amd squirming, she couldn't escape. Finally she stopped. Suddenly she was aware of his deodorant and his unique scent. His uniquely manly scent. She had not been this close to him before and if she had, she had been too distracted. She was aware of their chests being squashed together. His face was soo close she could feel his breath on her neck. She tensed when she felt him nuzzling the side of her neck but she relaxed against him after a while.
They were in their own world, where only the both of them existed. She luxuriated in his scent while he couldn't take enough. He had released her arms and was holding onto her hips. She didn't notice. She was caught up in the sensations he induced. She turned her head and got caught in his heated eyes. They moved closer-
'Miss Ashwood.' A shrill voice cut through the intense moment. Sharon tried to jump away from Cameron but he held her tight. He pressed her face to his chest and faced their intruder. The voice changed when she saw who it was. 'Oh, Mr Ballard, what are you doing here? Were you looking for me? Well of course you were looking for me,'she gushed, not allowing Cameron to reply.
Sharon was amused. The tyrant, that would be known as Melissa Barden, was melting over the immovable rock, whose name was Cameron Ballard. Melissa kept on talking about inconsequential things but Cameron was not paying attention. He was busy playing with her hair, making it tumble from the bun she had put it up on.
She shivered. No one had played with her hair before. In fact, she had been told it had been her most unflattering feature. She had then always kept it hidden by tying it up whenever she went out. However, if it was up to her, she would prefer to keep it down. She felt more relaxed and freer.
'Are you ready to leave?'Cameron breathed into her ear. She was surprised but nodded. She didn't care if Melissa had her fired. She made a promise to Cameron and she would keep it. 'Alright, while I talk to the noxious doll over there, you'll get your stuff and we will leave. But you have to be fast about it.' She nodded firmly.
'So, Miss Barden, how long have you been-'
Sharon tuned him out and stuffed all her stuff into her purse. It wasn't a lot but if she was fired, she didn't want to come back. She gave a last glance and turned to leave with Cameron when Matt came along.
'What is going on here?'he asked, bewildered. 'Melissa, you know you are not allowed to flirt with the clients in the office. Cameron, why aren't you at the meeting with your therapist? And Sharon, why are you leaving?'
'Sharon is to accompany me to my meeting with the therapist,'Cameron said belligerently. He was scowling at Matt and Sharon didn't want that. Their relationship was tenuous at best but Matt has helped him tremendously in his career. She didn't want to come between them.
'Yes, we had an agreement,'Sharon cut in. She moved to stand in front of Cameron, to show Cameron that she would not and shall not condone an argument now and also to show Matt that she would not be budged in this issue. 'I'm sorry that Cameron had not made you aware about this arrangement but he will not let me put of it. You know how he is.'
Matt shot her an amused look. 'Yes, he is like an immovable object,'he said. 'Alright. I'll let you go but we'll talk about this when you come in tomorrow, Sharon. Melissa, shouldn't you be getting back to work?' Melissa scrambled to find something to do under his censorious glance.
Sharon shot him a grateful look and grabbed Cameron's hand to lead him away in a hopefully peaceful exit. He didn't fight her hold but he did pause and give Matt an 'I'll speak to you later' kind of look.
