chapter 20: ideas.
"he's my fiancé," tyler informed the cashier at target. "he's sooooo wonderful. he's the sweetest boy ever and he's very funny and smart and he-"
tyler was cut off by his fiancé hugged his waist from behind and gently covering his mouth with his hand.
"i don't think she needs to know, baby," josh whispered in his ear, laughing lightly.
tyler's shoulders slumped sadly. he loved talking about josh, and he'd do it to absolutely anyone.
"when's the wedding?" the lady asked with a smile.
tyler grinned, his eyes widening. "well, i want it to be in the winter, but he wants it to be in the summer. we don't really know for sure yet. i just really wanna get married," tyler grinned widely as he excitedly talked to the woman.
"who proposed?" she asked.
"he did! and it was soooooo romantic. we hadn't seen each other for two years and so the night he came back we drove downtown and got onto a rooftop and looked at all the lights then he got down on one knee and told me that he loved me and asked me to marry him and ohhhh, it was like a dream!" he rambled, smiling happily.
"you got yourself a good one," she smiled, pointing towards josh.
"a perfect one!" tyler exclaimed.
the lady smiled, putting the last of the items in their cart. tyler ran around the cash register and hugged the lady goodbye before he pushed the cart outside.
"you better treat him well," she said to josh, handing him his credit card. "he loves you a lot."
josh smiled and blushed, nodding his head. "i do my best, just he deserves much more."
"just do what you can. that's all he wants. well, really, i think he just wants you to hold his hand, but maybe a little more than that would be nice," she smiled.
josh smiled and nodded.
"but for right now, just enjoy being engaged. do all the fun stuff you won't be able to do when you're married with kids," she advised.
josh nodded again and smiled, thanking her and waving goodbye.
as he walked out of the store, he was tackled in a hug by his fiancé, tyler kissing all over his face. josh giggled and picked the boy up, carrying him to the car before driving them home.
"you wanna do something fun tonight?" josh asked as they pulled into the driveway.
"like a movie or something?"
"i was thinking something more like... skinny dipping," josh grinned.
"joshua what in the world made you think of that?"
"the lady in the store said we should do all the things we can while we're engaged that won't be as special as when we're married and have kids. i mean, we've gotta have at least a few crazy stories to tell our friends..."
tyler shrugged. "i mean, sure i-i guess?"
"cool. where should we do it?"
"um... the pool?" tyler said confusedly.
"it's no fun without a little bit of risk!" josh exclaimed. "we should sneak in somewhere."
"joshua that's illegal! we could get in trouble for that!" tyler exclaimed.
josh shrugged and grinned. "only illegal if you get caught."
"joshua william!"
"come on, ty! it'll be fun."
"no."
"please?"
"no!"
"fine. we won't sneak in anywhere. we'll just do it at the lake."
tyler sighed. "fine."
"sick! i haven't gotten to see that pretty body of yours naked for a couple weeks," josh smiled, wrapping his arms around his fiancés waist and kissing his lips.
tyler just shrugged. he was incredibly insecure about his body, and joshua knew that, so he always tried to explain to tyler just how beautiful he was, though he never believed him.
"i know you don't believe me, handsome, but you're honestly the most beautiful boy inside and out," josh said, looking into tyler's eyes before kissing his forehead.
tyler just sighed and pulled away from the embrace, taking the rest of the groceries inside.
maybe tyler didn't want to go skinny dipping because he didn't want to risk anyone seeing his body. it was extremely difficult for him to allow josh to do so, let alone any other person.
"hey, honey? why don't we save skinny dipping for another night?" josh asked as he walked inside.
tyler quickly nodded his head. josh sighed and nodded, feeling slightly guilty for bringing it up. though he knew he wasn't forcing his fiancé into anything he felt uncomfortable with, and that's what matters.
"you wanna make dinner together tonight?" josh asked, hugging tyler's waist from behind. "we've always wanted to do that."
tyler smiled shyly and nodded, leaning back against his fiancé and closing his eyes contentedly.
"i love you, ty," josh whispered into his fiancé's ear as he smiled and hugged tyler's waist.
"i love you too, joshua," tyler smiled, turning his head to the side and puckering his lips. josh giggled and pressed a kiss against tyler, pulling back with a grin.
and so they made dinner together that night, kissing every few minutes after they each completed their task for the time being.
"ty, will you put the garlic bread in the over ple-" he was cut off by tyler hugging him tightly and pressing a long kiss against his lips. he spun them around, tyler leaning against the counter as josh kissed him.
"you're just so kissable, tyler joseph," josh giggled.
"well i could say the same about you, joshua dun," tyler grinned.
"we should talk about the whole last name thing," josh said. "i mean, for sure, i'm not becoming josh joseph. it just doesn't sound right."
tyler nodded in agreement. "so that leaves tyler jospeh-dun, joshua joseph-dun, and tyler dun."
josh smiled. "i kinda like joseph-dun. you said at the very beginning of the relationship that you wanted to always be equal. this way we can both have each other's last names."
tyler smiled and nodded in agreement. "tyler joseph-dun. i like it a lot. but i also like joshua dun-joseph..."
"tyler dun-joseph or tyler joseph-dun?" josh thought out loud. "i don't know. i like them both. i mean, i like the idea of both of us having our last name followed by the other's, but then we wouldn't have the same..."
"i dunno. i'm terrible at making decisions. you choose."
"i like joseph-dun. that way you have your last name first but i still have mine. and when we start a family, it'll be a whole new one. not a continuation of just the duns or just the josephs," josh said.
tyler smiled and nodded in agreement, hugging his fiancé's neck. "well i can't wait to be tyler joseph-dun."
josh smiled and rubbed his nose against tyler's. "i can't either, baby. i can't either."
