Chapter Four: Unintentional Affray

Ron had just finished writing in his diary when he realized he had nothing else to do but wait until Charles got home. He left the diary on the couch and decided to walk around and see what else he could do. It was roughly 9am and he was already bored. He didn't want to look forward to the nine hours coming.

"Oh my...." Ron gaped at the overflowing dirty clothes in the laundry room. "I guess I found what I should be doing." He mumbled and began gathering the clothes. He didn't mind doing some laundry for his mate.

Ron danced to the music that was blasting on the radio as he cleaned the house. The laundry chore had turned out to cleaning and Ron loved every second of it. The music helped him relax and he completely felt at home. His phone began ringing and he quickly dropped the wiping cloth in his hands and reached for his phone in his pocket while walking to turn off the music.

"Hello."

"Hey Ron, it's Roman."

"Hi Roman. What's up?" Ron asked.

"Nothing much, I just wanted to check on you. How is everything? Are you alright? Did you meet my brother?"

Ron chuckled at the many questions thrown at him. Roman was his Alpha's mate and also Charles's brother since Roman was raised by Charles's family. It was actually because of Roman that Charles and Ron came to know each other. Charles had came to the central city to check on Roman after he had been rescued from a rival kingdom. Ron loved how caring Roman was and he told him how his journey had turned out and what he was doing at that moment.

"That's nice." Roman commented on the house chores Ron had been doing. "You know how to cook right? How about you prepare some lunch for him and surprise him at work, I'm sure he will love that."

"Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, we haven't made up yet. I don't want him to think anything bad out of that."

"He will love it. I know my brother and he's not that hard to impress if you step on the right places. Just do that." Roman assured.

"Okay."

The call ended after exchanging a few words and Ron got back on cleaning. He had decided to not do what Roman had instructed but after finishing everything, he thought it best to do it since he had the time to prepare a simple meal and take it to Charles. He didn't know how to prepare many meals but he was confident on doing what he knew best. He cooked and packed the food to go. He even took a shower and dressed in his good clothes to look good for his mate.

The money Charles had left for take out food was used for transport since Ron had no car to drive and taking a cab was the best thing than a bus. His friend and also Charles's boss at the publishing house was the one who had dropped him off yesterday and he was grateful for that.

Ron had to call Sanjay to know if Charles was in his office and he was happy to know he was there. He had made the call before leaving the house and instructed his friend to make sure Charles doesn't leave the office.

Ron waited impatiently as the elevator took him up to where Charles office was. He sighed and rushed out of the elevator when it reached the top floor. He saw a smiling Britt who nodded to Charles's office before stepping in the elevator. Ron took a deep calming breath before lifting his hand to knock on the door but some yelling stopped him and he listened through the door. The yelling was coming out of Charles's office and he had to know what it was about.

**
Charles wanted to call Ron so many times and ask how he was doing. Every time he picked up his phone to make the call, he would stop himself. Later he stopped doing that and focused on finishing his work in order to get home in time.

A knock sounded on his door and he called out an answer. He didn't expect the person who came in but Charles was happy that the person had came. He did tried to call him a few times yesterday but the call didn't go through.

"Zach." He greeted the person.

"Charles." Zach said back and they chuckled and hugged each other.

Charles loved when they got together because it reminded him of good old times that the two had spent together. He offered Zach a seat and just when he was about to spark a conversation, his phone began ringing.

"Hold up." He lifted a finger to silence Zach before answering his phone. "Hey Tris."

"Hey boyfriend. I wanted to let you know that I'm not going to come around today because I went back home." Tristan's cheery voice said.

"Tristan we need to talk." Charles sighed. He had to tell Tristan that Ron was back in his life.

"I'll find time and come see you. I have to go now."

The call ended and Charles frowned at the odd behavior. Usually, Tristan wait for him to say 'bye' before cutting his phone calls.

"Boyfriend?" Zach asked Charles. He couldn't help it but listen in on the phone call.

"It's complicated." Charles dismissed it and smiled at his friend. "So why did you come here?"

"I came to let you know that Ron is coming for you. I'm not sure how long it will take for him to locate you." Zach explained.

"How do you know about that?"

"I may have told Kenny your location." Zach mumbled but Charles heard it clear.

"What the hell Zach? You promised!" Charles yelled.

"Yes. Yes I did promise not to but I couldn't lie to him."

"Then you should have not promised in the first place. So much for trusting in you." Charles seethed. He was actually hoping that Ron got to him without asking around. He wanted him to work for it and find him on his own.

"Seriously? Aren't you supposed to thank me for helping him?" Zach couldn't believe his friend. Yes he broke the promise but he didn't have to be that angry at him.

"Oh I see." Zach gave out a dry laugh and shook his head. "Is this about the boyfriend? Are you mad because you don't want your mate since you moved on?"

"Don't you dare go there. This has nothing to do with Tristan."

"Oh please." Zach scoffed and his next words were cut off by the door opening and a smiling Sanjay coming in, oblivious to the thick tension in the room.

"Ron called me minutes ago and I wasn't supposed to tell you but I really got carried away and here I am." Sanjay said while closing the office door behind him.

"What do you want?" Charles asked.

"Ron is on his way here. Probably here already." Sanjay explained and unknown to him, he had just increased Charles's anger.

"This is what I'm talking about!" Charles yelled, surprising a smiling Sanjay who jumped in fright. "You guys keep getting involved in my affairs. You directed him to me and you probably drove him to my house."

"I don't understand." Sanjay stated, completely lost at what he did wrong.

"Charles is being stupid. He doesn't want to appreciate what we did for him because clearly he doesn't see how important Ron is to him. As his friends we helped him and he is insulting us." Zach retorted.

"You don't know anything about how I feel about Ron. You betrayed me and I'm not going to thank you for that. Friends? You two are far from that and after this, I can't call you as friends of mine anymore." Charles yelled at the two and walked to the closed office door, wanting nothing but to exit the building.

Ron looked up when the door opened and his mate paused by the door for a bit before passing him by and walking away.

"I'm sorry." Ron whispered, apologising to Sanjay and Zach before running after Charles.

"Charles!" Ron shouted when he saw his mate about to get in his car. "You have to apologize to your friends. That was really something hateful to tell your friends."

"It's all because of you." Charles spit hatefully. "Did you have to get your alpha to do the work for you?"

"Charles what is it that you hate? They helped me come to you. What's wrong with that?"

"You made my friends betray me."

"Charles please."

"You shouldn't have come Ron. I don't want you here. You are not welcomed at my house." Charles murmured and got in his car.

He didn't wait for Ron to answer as he drove away from his friends and mate. It wasn't like he could have got a reply from Ron because he was frozen on the spot. He couldn't believe the words from Charles's mouth.

It sounded like a rejection.

He shook his head to get rid of his thoughts. It couldn't be a rejection. He understood Charles was mad and people say things they don't mean when they were angry. But that didn't keep the tears away as they descended down his cheeks.

**
Charles took his time driving around before he got home. He was still mad but not so much as earlier. He opened his front door and immediately after walking in, he realised the slight changes to his house. He began to walk around, scanning everything.

He noticed everything and as he went around noting all those, his anger slowly diminished until there was no more. Ron had even ironed his clothes and he was sure it was Ron because Tristan had never done that for him before. Charles sighed and walked back to the living room. He saw Ron's things on the floor and also noticed the black book on the couch. He took the book and upon reading the cover, he realised it was a diary. He debated on reading it or not but then he decided not to.

He left the book on the couch and went into his kitchen to make something to eat. He had missed his lunch and his stomach made sure he knew that by protesting. He found a container in his fridge that had Ron's left over meal that he had prepared earlier. He heated the food and began eating it to satisfy his stomach.

He thought back to everything and he still was disappointed in his friends. He also hated the fact that it took Ron this long to come find him. The diary came to his mind and this time his curiosity won as he found himself sitting on the couch and went through it.

By the time he was finished, his head felt big and heavy. He was confused greatly and he knew only Ron could help him figure things out. He checked his phone and saw it was really late and Ron wasn't home yet. He ran out of the house and was about to get into his car when he remembered he had no idea where Ron was. He pulled out his phone and dialled the only person that was likely to be with him or know where he was.

"Charles?"

"Yes it's me. I wanted to ask if you are with Ron."

"No he isn't with me. I didn't see him after he ran for you back at the office." Sanjay replied.

"Okay thanks."

"Is there anything wrong? Is he okay?"

Charles wanted to say it was okay but he dismissed that. He told Sanjay that Ron wasn't home yet and how worried he was. Together they planned to look around for him.

Two hours later and there was still no. Ron. Charles was frustrated and tempted to call Kenneth. However, the fear of facing the other man with that news really frightened him and that idea was turned down right away. His phone began ringing just as he exited one of the many hotels he had checked for Ron, hoping he had checked into a hotel for the night.

"Hello?" He answered the new number on his phone hoping it was Ron.

"Charles!" Ron's voice shouted and Charles let out the breath he was holding.

"Where are you?"

"I'm at Precious Hospital-"

"I'm on my way."

Charles ended the call and texted Sanjay where he was going. As he made his way to the hospital, so many scenarios ran through his mind and it wasn't pretty at all. He could only hope that Ron was fine and he drove through the streets as a mad man.
