I talked with Jack for a little bit more, until I looked at the time realizing it was time to head home. Chica needs her medication, she's had an ear infection and I forgot to tell my friend about it. Sighing, I cupped my face in my hands and I heard Jack speak up.

"What's wrong? You gotta go?" Jack staring at me with a blank face, it gave me a sudden start at how accurate the guess was.

"I... Yeah. How'd you know?" My eyes locking with Jack's, he shrugged giving me a small smile and pointed towards the clock.

"You kept checking the time, and you seem more nervous. Is something wrong?" So it wasn't a guess, I was just being rude. Closing my eyes and dragging my hands from the top of my face down, I gave a small smile.

"Ahh, no, well, I have to go give my dog her medication. She has an ear infection." Jack's expression dropping to hear about her being sick, I felt a pang in my chest. Jack already had more than enough to deal with right now.

"Oh no."

"Yeah... Alright, I should get going Jack. I'll see you around okay?" Jack looking at me, seeming like he wanted to say something merely nodded. Pushing myself up off of my chair, I headed towards the door but he called out one more time.

"Wait! Mark?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you..Text me when you get home? I want to know if you're okay and you arrive safe." My heart twisting over itself, I nodded slowly and went back to his bedside. Leaning down so we were face to face, he grabbed a tissue and quickly scribbled something down.

Smiling wide, he pushed his arm out towards me and tucked something gently into the palm of my hand. Staring at the tissue, my stomach bubbled to see it was his phone number, and a smiley face at the end with the name Jack.

"You know you didn't have to write your name right? I'd know who it is."

"Hey, I don't know if you have any other phone number tissues on you." Chuckling at the absurdity, he slumped his head back on the pillow and snatched his phone waving it at me.

"I'll have it by my side so I should answer right away, or soon enough." Nodding, I smiled brightly at him I stood up and made my way to the door for a second time. Checking back to make sure he didn't want anything else, my thumb stroked the tissue as I walked out wishing him goodnight.

The drive home was pretty much silent, I did have the radio on for a small bit but, even than it was just white noise. Scrunching my eyes closed at the red light, a coffee shop opened my eyes, I could really go for some coffee.

But I'm about to go to bed....I'll get some next time, an exasperated sigh leaving my lips, the light turned green and I went ahead past the coffee shop.

Finally reaching home, I opened the door, quickly shutting it behind me. Kicking off my shoes I waddled to the couch and flopped onto it.

"Ugh." Lifting my head slightly, a grin got to me when I saw Chica snoozing on the couch curled into a little ball. Forcing myself back up, I took her medicine from the cabinet and leaned down beside her.

Lifting her ear, she lazily opened one eye and stuck out her tongue. Putting three drops into her ear, she shut her eyes as I rubbed the medicine thoroughly into her ear. A small grunt coming from Chica, I used my other hand to pet her, and then did the other ear.

All finished, I placed the medication onto the coffee table, not wanting to get up, and laid down beside Chica. Slowly shutting my eyes, I continued petting her until I wasn't able to anymore.

Feeling myself drifting away for the night, my smile slowly fell as my body slumped.

What a day.
