Chapter 4: Training

(Three weeks later- Normal pov)

Princess Elsa looked out the window of her room, Frost began to spread across the glass, she quickly backed away from the window and took deep breaths. "Conceal, don't feel." She told herself, but those words made Elsa feel like her powers were a curse, nothing more, nothing less. Elsa blinked away tears of sadness, she was only isolated from people and... Anna so that she wouldn't hurt anyone or her younger sister with her powers.

Elsa held both her hands out and saw orbs of ice forming, these powers... they were both a blessing and a curse.

She could hear voices outside her door, then her door opened up to reveal her father and a boy she'd never seen before. The boy was about her and Anna's height, he had auburn hair, light freckles on his face, gorgeous green eyes, and a scar on his chin. He wore black leather boots, pants, and armor.

Who was this boy?

"Elsa dear, I'd like you to meet Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. He's a former Viking and has renounced the Vikings pagan gods and has been baptized into the Christian faith." Agnarr said, Elsa looked at Hiccup with caution, if he had been a Viking before... she made a mental note to keep an eye on him. Agnarr then turned to Hiccup. "This is my eldest daughter Elsa my boy. She has been blessed with remarkable powers. But due to an accident when she and Anna were children, we were... advised to make Elsa's contact with people few. Until she can control the power she wields."

Hiccup looked at Elsa and bowed his head at her. "Lady." He said with respect, Elsa nodded to him in acknowledgment, Hiccup looked back at the princess. "If I may ask, what power do you wield?" Hiccup asked curiously, Elsa looked to her father for permission, Agnarr nodded at his daughter, Elsa looked back at Hiccup and she formed a snowball in her hand and tossed it to Hiccup, the boy caught and breathed out in disbelief, shock and awe.

"Incredible." Hiccup said, Elsa smiled lightly at the boy. "It's but a taste of what I'm capable of. But controlling it has proven to be quite challenging at times." She turned to her father and smiled at the king. "Thankfully I have my father and mother to encourage and comfort me when I feel like will lose my mind." The girl confessed with thankfulness, Agnarr places a hand on his daughters shoulder and kissed her hair.

"Elsa. I want you to spend time with Hiccup, show him our ways, make him feel welcomed among us, show him the Bible and teach him of our way as Christians. This will not only benefit him, but you as well Elsa, it should be nice to speak to someone other than myself and your mother."

Elsa was speechless. She looked to Hiccup and he looked at her, they smiled at each other, the princess looked to her father. "When shall I begin showing Hiccup our ways?" She asked curiously, Agnarr smiled at his daughter. "When you're ready my daughter. For now, I need to show Hiccup something with our war council." Agnarr said, he leaned in and kissed Elsa's forehead and caressed her cheek, causing Elsa to smile at her father.

Agnarr then turned to Hiccup and gestures him to follow, Hiccup and Elsa shared one last look at each other and shared a warm smile, when Agnarr and Hiccup were out of sight, Elsa chuckled lightly at the assignment her father had granted her, and the possibility of making a new friend.

Despite not showing it, Elsa was screaming with joy in her mind.

(Stoick's pov)

The dragons had taken off again, with more livestock than we can count, we even witnessed the devils taking away people. Many of the homes were completely destroyed and we were all exhausted. I ran a hand through my hair and sighed heavily, I could see the people picking each other back up, starting to clean up, go to Gobber to get their weapons sharpened and everyone beginning todays work.

I sighed heavily and made my way to the Great Hall, I then summoned an emergency meeting for the whole island, within an hour, everyone was gathered, I sat on my throne, while Gobber, Gothi, Spitelout, Mildew and other members of the Hooligan council stood by my side, I then rose from my seat and addressed the people.

"Friends, I want to thank you all for coming, I know we have much to do today in preparation for the dragons to return so I'll make this quick. The dragons have become more aggressive than ever, they're not only taking away our livestock but taking away those who once stood among us." I said grimly, causing people to shake their heads in disbelief, sorrow, and sadness, I then continued. "So, to ensure Berks survival this upcoming winter, I've been reached out by an old friend of mine in the White Wolf tribe, their chieftain- Magnus the Rabid informs me that his son is at the proper age to be married. Magnus asks me that if any of you who have daughters of proper age can be a potential wife for Magnus's son, then we can forge an alliance in the form of trade. They have plenty of food to deliver to us should we agree to this deal."

I could see everyone murmur at the concept of this deal. I could see the families of those who had daughters of the proper age to be married off. The Thorsten clans daughter Ruffnut, the Ack clans daughter Alva, and the Hofferson clans only daughter Astrid.

I then spoke out over the murmurs and light conversation. "This is a decision that Magnus will give us time to dwell on. But he expects an answer sooner rather than later. A ship with his men will be arriving in three days, so talk about this with your daughters, and know that this is for our peoples survival." I said passionately before gesturing outside the Hall. "The dragons want to destroy our way of life! But we cannot defend ourselves if we are weakened by hunger. This deal that Chieftain Magnus is offering is one I cannot refuse, but I will let the families with daughters old enough to marry Magnus's son talk this over amongst themselves." I then licked my lips and chuckled lightly, I then looked back up at my people and nodded at them. "You are dismissed."

The people bowed their heads and exited the Hall, once everyone but myself and Gobber were left, Gobber then placed a hand on my shoulder. "We do what we have to do my friend. Try and get some sleep too will ya? Ever since Hiccup's death you haven't been getting enough sleep." He stated, I turned to my old friend and snorted lightly, I shook my head and pinched the bridge of my nose. "I've been a terrible father Gobber. I-I see that now. Hiccup was just trying to prove himself to us by being himself. And... and I shunned him and made Snotlout of all people my heir! Argh! I was blinded by my dreams of having a son with strength, beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side that I should've helped Hiccup build himself up." I then looked into Gobber's eyes and frowned. "Instead I humiliated him, cast him aside, and... strip him of his birth right." I said with shame, if Valka had seen how badly we've treated Hiccup back then? She'd castrate me for sure.

She must surely be ashamed of me for casting aside our son. Our only son.

"What have I done." I said as I buried my face into my hands, Gobber sighed heavily and patted my shoulder. "I'll leave you be my friend." He said as he exited the Hall, as I sat in my throne, I couldn't hold the tears back anymore, they slid freely down my cheeks and soaked my beard, Hiccup was my only son, and I... I failed him as a father. I looked up and choked out. "Forgive me son. Forgive me for being such a terrible father to you." I wiped my tears away and decided to go home and go to sleep. Who knew crying could take so much out of you.

(Hiccup's pov)

Agnarr and I entered a massive room that overlooked all of Arendelle, and inside the room were what I presumed were generals and commanders of Agnarr's army, along with these military leaders were lords and nobles, Agnarr welcomed them all and gestured them toward a huge table that overlooked Arendelle's location and the whole of England.

"My lords, nobles, generals and commanders, thank you for your time. Before we begin, I want you all to welcome Hiccup Haddock into our fold and faith. He has renounced the Viking way of life and has pledged himself and his Night Fury to our cause in defending our home and England." Agnarr said with pride, I received some welcoming looks and some... disgusted looks. One of the lords looked like my age, he had short black hair, a mole on his cheek, he was average in muscle, and his physical appearance? Lets just say thats the face that only a mother could love.

Agnarr then turned to me. "Hiccup, the heathens we face are animalistic in their fighting style, they have a huge fleet of ships, and my spies have hold me that another group of heathens have joined the ones we currently face." I nodded in understanding and turned to the king. "Did your spies by chance manage to see what symbol was on the other Viking ships?" I asked, Agnarr summoned a solider, the soldier gave the king a cloth and bowed his head before returning to his post, Agnarr then passed the rag to me, when I opened the rag open, the symbol had crimson helmet with horns on either side and two side spikes coming off the helmet.

Outcasts.

I then turned to Agnarr. "I know this crest. Its the crest of the Outcast tribe. They are of all Viking people who have been banished, declared as heretics by Viking standards and those who have committed heinous crimes. Lord, the Outcasts are not a force to be trifled with, their Chieftain is Alvin the Treacherous and his second in command is a man named Savage. If they really are uniting to take Arendelle? Then you must give me command over your forces."

"Ha! You? In command of us? Preposterous!"

I turned to see the ugly lord that was my age, I cocked my head slightly at him and asked. "You have a name?" The boy scoffed. "Of course I have a name. Its Chadwick." He said, I nodded at him and pointed out. "Have you ever fought a Viking before?" I asked, he shook his head, I nodded. "Then with respect, you will listen and head my advise. I now these Vikings, I know their strengths, weaknesses, their numbers, and number ships they have." I saw an older man nudge Chadwick and insisted that he listened to me, he growled lightly and nodded.

I then returned my attention to everyone else.

"Toothless and I went out for our morning flight earlier today and in the forests, I noticed remains of sacrifices. The ordinary warriors among the Outcast and Berserker ranks have caught and killed birds, jackdaws. This is done only in days before battle. And they are hungry."

"Well, perhaps they have simply eaten these jackdaws." Chadwick said, I turned to him and then back to Agnarr. "Lord, they have many hundreds of men, horses and few supplies due to them just arriving here. The voyage on the North Sea by ship will have drained their supplies significantly. They will attack the smaller villages around Arendelle that are rich with grain and livestock. My advise? We destroy them while they are weakened by hunger." I said, the other lords, nobles, and military leaders murmured amongst themselves until one noble spoke up.

"These... Outcasts have only just arrived Lord Hiccup, so, how do you advise we attack them before they join with the Berserkers?"

I turned to that noble and answered him. "I advise, me and Toothless go and catch them by surprise, cripple their numbers, destroy a portion of their ships and supplies and leave them starving." Chadwick spoke up with an accusing tone. "How do we know that you won't link up with them?" He asked, everyone turned toward the boy, I raise an eyebrow at him. "Whats your point?" I demanded, Chadwick shrugged and answered. "Well, you look like a heathen, you can speak the langue of a heathen, therefore, I surmise you can set a trap like a heathen."

"Are you accusing me of... betraying you?" I asked in a disbelieving tone, Chadwick again shrugged. "Why not? As you said, you know these people, and you have a dragon. What if you being baptized into our faith was just... a means to an end?"

"Young Chadwick enough!" Agnarr spoke firmly, the glare the king sent the boy Chadwick caused him to bow his head. "My Lord." He said, he then shot me a dirty glare, but I didn't return it, I wouldn't let him get under my skin, I then turned to Agnarr. "It is only a suggestion Lord. If you wish me not to meet the Outcasts, then I will obey your word. But in the mean time..." I gestured to outside. "...may I be excused to begin my training for the day?" I asked, Agnarr turned to me and nodded in permission, I bowed my head to him and left the room.

(Ten minutes later)

Outside, I removed my tunic and entered the training ring for Arendelle's soldiers, nobles and lords, Toothless was by my side as we entered the ring, everyone there laid eyes on me, they could see the Viking tattoos on my back and forearms. I nodded at them in greeting and approached sparring dummies that weren't occupied.

::Why do they stare Hiccup?::

Toothless warbled out, I turned to my dragon patted his head. "They are curious. Though I've been baptized in their faith, I need to prove to them that I won't turn back on my pledges. But for now? We're just training." I said, as drew both my duel swords and ignited them, I heard gasps and murmurs of astonishment from those inside the ring, I smirked lightly at their reactions, I then twirled my swords and admired how the flames danced and roared, I then laid eyes on the dummies, let out a war cry and began hacking them to pieces.

(Hours later)

I always spend an hour perfecting my sword technique, another hour of working my body to the breaking point, and another hour of training with Toothless. During this time, the soldiers, lords, nobles, and citizens watched my every move while training, but in my mind, I was in the forests of Berk. That was one of the only things I loved about my former home, its divine forests, it made me relaxed and helped me ignore the stares from Arendelle's people.

After I was satisfied with my training for the day, I sighed heavily and approached a bucket full of fresh water, I dunked my head inside of it and resurfaced and gasped loudly at how cold the water was. "WHOO!!" I exclaimed, I then grabbed a rag from my satchel and dried my face and hair off, I then looked up from the ring to lay eyes on Princess Anna and a group of girls our age who were watching me train as well, they looked away with blushes, Anna too, I grinned at that, I never had girls admire my body or my prowess, because I didn't show it on Berk.

I then exited the ring and approached Princess Anna while still shirtless, she blushed even harder and I smirked at her. "Did you enjoy the show Anna?" I asked teasingly, she lightly punched my chest and giggled lightly. "And if I did?" She asked, I shrugged. "I don't mind, especially from a beauty like yourself." I said confidently and boldly, which shocked even me! My words caused Anna to smile warmly at me while still blushing. "Thank you Hiccup." She said, I then looked around to see some citizens watching me and Anna's confrontation.

"Seems I'm extra popular today." I said, Anna turned to the people and gestured them to move along, the people bowed their heads to the princess and continued their business, Anna then turned back to me. "So, Hiccup. I wanted to ask you something." She said, I had finished drying my hair off and nodded at her, she then gestured to Toothless. "Was it hard, befriending him?" Anna asked curiously, I chuckled lightly and shrugged.

"About as hard as making friends with any other person, I guess. Why you ask?" I drew my eyes from Arendelle, and stared into Anna's gorgeous azure eyes. I couldn't help but stifle a sigh; I still couldn't get over the way Anna looked, with her strawberry blond hair and beautiful figure.

"Perhaps... I can take you on a ride?" I asked her while gesturing to Toothless, Anna's eyes widen with excitement. "I'd love to!" She said, I grinned and nodded at her. "I look forward to it." I said, before I could react, Anna kissed my cheek, my eyes widened in surprise, she smiled at me. "As do I." She said before walking away and giving me one last smile, I returned it. Toothless nudged my arm and cocked his head slightly.

::Do you like her my friend?::

I looked at Anna's retreating form as she rejoined with her friends, I smiled and Toothless's question.

"I do bud."

(Normal pov)

Astrid's favorite axe slammed into the tree, with more than enough force to kill a man. The blade of the weapon lodged several inches into the wood, but not nearly deep enough to sedate her anger. The enraged shield-maiden would spend endless hours at this exact tree, hurling her axe at it as a form of release. Usually it did the job, leaving her too tired to think about what was wrong or upsetting her.

But this wasn't one of those times. No amount of throwing would calm her today.

Astrid had searched the entire forest for any traces of the Night Fury, praying that it hadn't left Berk. To her grief, not a trace of the devil was found. It had been weeks since her discovery Hiccup's, and she had yet to work up the courage to talk to Stoick about it. She was mortified about the boy's death, but her sadness was nothing in comparison to the red-haired chief. Stoick hadn't been himself since then, and had only spoken to Gobber since then. Astrid knew his reaction would be one of hatred and fury, she thought he might even put off the nest-hunts, and start sending ships out looking for the Night Fury.

The teenager ran up to her axe and wrenched it from the scarred tree, nearly popping her shoulder out of its socket in the process. Astrid couldn't care less about the pain; she turned and dropped into a forward-tumble, before turning back to the tree and launching her axe once again. The shield-maiden's clothes were now drenched in sweat, and her classic head band had fallen off hours ago, leaving her hair in a sticky yellow mess. She ignored how awful she must have looked, and continued to push her body to the limit. As much as the girl was trying to release her anger, she was also using this opportunity to train. Astrid had the odd feeling in her gut that the Night Fury would return. She didn't know if it would be days, months, or even years.

Astrid knew the dragon would be back, and when he returned, she would be ready for him. And she would avenge Hiccup's death by slaying the Unholy Offspring of Lightning and Death itself.
