Chapter 4 of 28. Toddler Terrors Of Time Travel

In the Guerzon band room, Mrs. Guerzon grimaced in pain, clutching her head. "Aaagh, my head," she groaned, applying another ice pack with a sigh of relief. Serena appeared beside her. "Seems like these headaches coincide with those encounters with the fiddle freaks." Mrs. G responded with a growl. "I could've dominated Orchestra Town years ago." Serena corrected her, "If only those string players hadn't stumbled into that warp zone pipe in Germany!" Serena paced, brainstorming, until she exclaimed, "What if we alter history, Mrs. G? Time travel might just do the trick!" Mrs. G nodded, embracing her student's devious suggestion.

Serena fidgeted with the machine, casting a wary glance at Mrs. G. "I've got to be cautious. This time travel tube is our only shot." Unbeknownst to them, an unknown figure observed from a telescope. Mrs. G sneered at Serena. "I fail to see how that puny tube will transport us back to Germany and prevent the Orchestra Couple from leaving." Serena pouted. "Trust me, I've got this!" As the telescope retreated, revealing Marina underneath, she grinned. "Good thing I stationed myself here! Kamari and Haru need to hear about this." With that, she dashed off to find the duo.

As Kamari, Haru, and Marina rushed to the band room, Haru eyed the box with confusion. "Hey, we can't all fit in that tiny thing!" Kamari grinned mischievously. "Oh, yes we can!" She stuffed Haru inside, then Marina, before squeezing in herself and closing the lid. Marina muttered, "Kamari always lands us in tight spots." The box shook as a guard lifted it, struggling with its weight. "Must be getting weaker, this box feels ten times heavier." Looking to Mrs. G for guidance, the guard asked where to place it. "Toss it over there," Mrs. G commanded. As the guard complied, a faint "EEP!" caught Mrs. G's attention. She glanced around. "Did you hear that?" Then, the box responded, "Nope, just your imagination." Mrs. G moved to open it, but a familiar jingle interrupted her. Serena's invention was working!

"It's working!" Serena exclaimed with a grin as the machine emitted an evil aura. "I'll take us back to Germany, just before noon, when the Orchestra freaks first arrived in Orchestra Town!" The ship began to ascend, but Mrs. G, impatient, shoved Serena aside. "You're too slow, Rena!" Serena panicked. "But Mrs. G, it'll overload if you push it harder!" The ship shook violently, sending the box careening into the machine, causing it to break. Through the hole, Kamari, Haru, and Marina were revealed. Mrs. G growled at the stowaways. "I'll deal with you later!"

Serena scrambled with her broken machine. "Forget them! Help me! We're going too far back in time!" With a bright glow, the machine surged. Mrs. G screamed, "Hit the brakes!" Serena yanked the lever, bringing the ship to a sudden stop. The chaos subsided, but something was amiss.

As everyone found themselves transformed into children, confusion reigned supreme. Stripped of their usual inhibitions, they stumbled about in a haze of bewilderment. Mrs. G, now a toddler, stared at her tiny fist before clumsily punching herself in the face. "OW!" she cried out, more surprised than hurt. Meanwhile, toddler Haru timidly addressed Kamari. "Hey, Kamari," he murmured before letting out a soft cry, overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sensations of childhood. Kamari giggled, trying to reassure him. "Hey, don't be such a baby, Haru!" But Haru protested, tears welling up in his eyes. "But I am a baby, Mari! That darn band kid turned us into toddlers!"

Meanwhile, Serena frantically mashed buttons on the control panel, hoping to reverse the curse. "Maybe I can set us back on track!" she exclaimed, her childlike optimism undeterred. Mrs. Guerzon, now reduced to the mental faculties of a three-year-old, piped up, "Are we almost at the right year?" But their hopes were quickly dashed by their juvenile minds. In their confusion, they accidentally sent the ship hurtling toward the ground, resulting in a crash landing.

As they emerged from the wreckage, Marina voiced the question on everyone's mind. "Why are we still kids?" Kamari exchanged a worried glance with Marina. "The crash must've messed up the time tube," she reasoned. Their attention was drawn to the loud ticking of the Glockenspiel Clock Tower looming above them. "We're running out of time to reach that wedding before we're stuck in this mess forever!" Kamari exclaimed urgently. But Haru, ever the optimist, interjected, "Even if we're tiny, there's got to be a shortcut!"

Determined to make it to the wedding, the trio began to crawl towards what they hoped would be a quicker route. Meanwhile, Mrs. G, still in toddler form, pointed at them angrily. "Get back here, you instrument-wielding imbeciles!" she shouted, prompting Serena to follow suit, crawling after them with determination in her eyes.

As the toddlers hurried along the bustling German sidewalk, they attracted puzzled looks from the passing crowd. Despite their diminutive stature, they pressed on determinedly, with Mrs. G and Serena trailing close behind. Approaching a crosswalk, their hopes were momentarily dashed as they realized they couldn't reach the pedestrian signal button. But ever resourceful, they quickly devised a plan. Stacking themselves up, with Marina at the top, they managed to press the button, halting the traffic so they could cross safely.

Once on the other side, they encountered Klaus, Amelia, and Millie, local children who were happily skipping rope. Eager to join in the fun, the trio of orchestra members jumped in without hesitation. However, in their excitement, they forgot the golden rule of skipping rope and ended up getting tangled in the rope, much to the amusement of the onlookers.

As they reached the Schrottplatz Junkyard, the trio wasted no time in scavenging for materials to construct their ideal getaway vehicles. Meanwhile, the villains mimicked their actions, fashioning their own makeshift car adorned with a sign reading: "Band Babies On Board." Haru's eyes widened in alarm as he spotted their pursuers hot on their heels. Thinking quickly, they devised a plan to throw off their trackers, opting to switch wheels as a quick detour tactic. However, their hopes were dashed when they reached a dead end, bringing their daring escape to an abrupt halt.

Mrs. G's face twisted into an evil smirk. "Finally, we've got those little string players cornered," she gloated. But just as she was reveling in her victory, a passerby approached to admire the pram. Kamari seized the opportunity. "Quick, let's make a run for it!" As the lady cooed over the pram, the orchestra members seized the chance to escape. "Wie süß! I love cute babies!" the lady exclaimed, reaching to uncover the blanket. However, her delight quickly turned to horror as she discovered Serena and Kamari hiding beneath.

Serena seethed with frustration at the missed opportunity. "Those orchestra brats slipped through our fingers! What now?" Mrs. G's eyes gleamed with determination. "It's time to get serious," she declared to her student.

Serena, determined to set things right, tinkered with the machine's controls. "I think this might do the trick, Mrs. G!" she exclaimed, her fingers flying over the buttons. Mrs. G, her impatience palpable, snarked, "It better! The only way we can outsmart those string players is by regaining our adult forms!" With a surge of ominous energy, the machine hummed to life, its glow intensifying as it prepared to fulfill their dark ambitions.

Serena couldn't contain her excitement as her teenage form returned. "Yes! It worked, Mrs. G!" she cheered, gazing at her restored teacher. Mrs. G, now back in her adult form, paused mid-punch, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Ah, finally," she remarked, her voice dripping with satisfaction. Serena's smile turned sinister as she recognized the familiar gleam of mischief in Mrs. G's eyes. "Now for the next phase of our plan," Mrs. G declared, her laughter echoing with ominous intent.

As the trio made their way down the familiar streets, Haru glanced at his girlfriend with a nostalgic smile. "This is where we found the portal and ended up in Orchestra Town," he reminisced. Approaching the door of the house where they had taken their lessons, Kamari smirked confidently. "The girl who lives here is a sweetheart. Let me handle this," she declared, ready to take charge. But before she could utter a word, the door swung open, revealing a lady on the other side, interrupting her train of thought.

Elise, understandably bewildered, answered the door with a puzzled expression. "Who's knocking at my door?" she mused before her shock turned to concern as she noticed the three toddlers on her doorstep. "Goodness gracious! Someone has left three babies on my doorstep!" Kamari attempted to jog her memory. "We're not abandoned, we're musicians! You taught us, remember?" But Elise dismissed their claims, insisting that music was too loud for toddlers and ushered them inside for a nap.

Meanwhile, Serena and Mrs. Guerzon arrived in a van labeled "The Guerzon and Great Freshman Band," disguised in tuxedos. Serena chuckled at their clever ruse, confident that nobody would suspect they were from another world. Mrs. Guerzon knocked on Elise's door, and as they entered, they introduced themselves as "The Guerzon Great Freshman Band," ready to make music magic. Haru trembled in fear, realizing the potential consequences if the band interfered with the portal. Elise requested a soft song for her waltz that evening, and Mrs. Guerzon eagerly agreed, pulling out her instrument with a smirk.

As Elise was gently ushered out of the room, Kamari overheard their conversation and realized they couldn't let Mrs. Guerzon get away with her scheme. Determined to stop her, they searched for a plan. Haru spotted a hole in the floor and suggested a way to thwart Mrs. Guerzon's plans. Without hesitation, he jumped down, with Marina and Kamari following closely behind.

Haru, Marina, and Kamari descended through the window hole, landing safely on the floor below. Haru's eyes widened as he noticed the tangled strings of a cello. "Those strings are more tangled than my ex-girlfriend's hair!" he exclaimed, reaching out to touch the instrument. "That's the cello I played when I first performed for Elise! Let's give it a pluck!" With determination, they began plucking at the strings, but the instrument was too large for their tiny hands. Kamari struggled to produce a sound, her small fingers unable to grasp the strings properly. "Come on, guys, I need some baby power!" she urged, prompting Haru and Marina to crawl over and assist her. Together, they managed to pluck the beloved A string, which vibrated with a clear, resonant sound.

As they collapsed to the floor, exhausted from their efforts, Marina asked, "What do we do now?" Kamari seized the opportunity, grabbing their suits. "We sneak up behind them and give them a rest," she whispered with a mischievous grin.

In the living room, Mrs. Guerzon and Serena were playing their instruments at full volume, creating a cacophony rather than a quiet concert. Mrs. Guerzon shot her student an evil grin. "Try to play even louder, Rena!" she urged, adjusting her reed with a giggle. "We'll ensure those shrimpy string players never lay hands on this portal!" Meanwhile, Serena dashed into the kitchen to grab some water.

Elise, growing increasingly concerned by the racket, politely interjected, "Um, how are you guys doing out there?" Mrs. Guerzon responded with a sharp retort, "Oh, shut your trap!" Elise was understandably taken aback by the rudeness. "My word! How mean! I thought you made band a blast!" she exclaimed, feeling hurt by the unexpected hostility.

Attempting to diffuse the tension, Serena nervously chuckled, "Oh, we do, ma'am! And this is a fun song called 'Smells Like Learning to Be Louder'!" With a forced smile, she zoomed past Elise, hoping to divert attention away from Mrs. Guerzon's rudeness.

Kamari grinned with determination. "Alright, time to stop playing pianissimo! Let's pluck those strings!" Haru laughed with mischief. "Now we'll really put the pressure on those phony band players!" With renewed vigor, they began plucking the strings of the cello, much to Mrs. Guerzon's growing concern. "Serena, help me! Our music is getting out of control!" she shouted, scrambling to the stands to try to mute the instruments. But her efforts were in vain as the noise filled Elise's entire house, prompting her to scream in distress.

Elise dashed to her bedroom to call for help, but her hopes were dashed when all she heard was a long, loud beep on the other end. Meanwhile, Serena peered through the window, realizing the source of their problem. Kamari continued to play, but their efforts were abruptly halted when the strings suddenly fell off the cello. "No! The band kids cut the strings!" Kamari exclaimed in frustration. Before they could react, Mrs. Guerzon and Serena discovered their hiding place in the basement.

"Well, well, what do we have here? Some snooty string-playing stuck-ups," Mrs. Guerzon sneered. With a sense of urgency, Kamari called out to the others, "Quick, crawl after me!" They scrambled to hide in a nearby case, but to their horror, it was a trap. Mrs. Guerzon lifted the case and locked it shut, sealing their fate. From inside, Haru protested, "Hey, what do you think you're doing?" Mrs. Guerzon smirked. "Sealing your fate," she replied with a wicked grin. As they walked away, Serena gloated, "Now the orchestra couple will never make it to Orchestra Town!" Their evil laughter echoed through the basement, but unbeknownst to them, Marina had managed to crawl faster than the others, escaping the trap. Haru and Kamari cried out for help in German, "Hilf uns!"

Marina, exhausted but determined, managed to track down the ship of the dreaded couple as they made their way back. With a growl of determination, she climbed aboard. Mrs. Guerzon smiled proudly at her faithful student. "With the orchestra couple permanently stuck in Germany as permanent babies, I can finally capture the Jester and enslave their people!" Serena, pleased with her time machine's apparent success, looked back at it with satisfaction. "My time travel tube is working great!" However, unbeknownst to her, it had been stolen by the sailor.

Meanwhile, the sailor fiddled with the buttons, determined to use the machine for his own purposes. "If I can just focus this beam onto the basement window," he muttered, adjusting the controls. Miraculously, his plan succeeded, and the beam reached the trapped case. As it worked its magic, Kamari and Haru suddenly found themselves restored to adulthood. Haru laughed in amazement. "Hey! I'm a full-sized cello player again! What happened?" Kamari shrugged, equally perplexed. "Beats me! But we only have 30 seconds to get to that portal!"

With no time to spare, they dashed to the ballroom and played their hearts out to "Winter" by Vivaldi, ending with a graceful bow. Haru grinned. "Well, that just about does it!" Then, Kamari pulled out her old violin, a symbol of their journey. "And this is the instrument that started it all!"

Elise breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of the real musicians. "What a relief! You are real musicians! Why don't you stay for my dance?" Kamari smiled warmly as the portal slowly began to manifest. "Thank you, but we've got a date with Mr. Jingles." As the portal grew large enough for them to pass through, they bid farewell to Elise. "Auf Wiedersehen, Elise!" And with that, they leaped into the portal, leaving Elise in shock and wonder.

Mr. Jingles looked fearful as Mrs. Guerzon thrust the contract in his face, demanding, "If you know what's good for you, you'll sign over your town NOW!" Serena, holding Marina by her hair, chimed in menacingly, "You better do what Mrs. G says, Jester! The Orchestra Couple is stuck in the past!" But to their surprise, the Orchestra Couple had returned!

"Don't count on it, Band class!" Kamari retorted with a smirk as Mr. Jingles and Marina rushed to their side. Haru nodded confidently. "We played the past!" Kamari pointed accusingly at Mrs. Guerzon and Serena. "And now we're gonna play you out of here! Go, sheet music!" With a swift motion, she threw a sheet, hitting Mrs. Guerzon square in the face. "Drats! This is worse than the first time the Orchestra Couple arrived! Time to get out of here, Rena!" Mrs. Guerzon exclaimed, jumping into the pipe with Serena, who was pushed down with her.

Mr. Jingles grinned with satisfaction. "Good going, guys! That will teach Guerzon never to mess with history!" Kamari smirked triumphantly. "Or with us!" Haru nodded in agreement. "Yeah! Maybe next time Mrs. G will pick on someone her own size!" The two shared a laugh and a hug, relieved that their long adventure was finally over.
