Chapter 20: Convincing

"Are you okay, Naomi?" Sabina asked, setting the bandage down. Naomi couldn't stop staring at the scar.

"What happened to your hand?" Naomi asked, moving closer to Jim.

"I cut it when I was cutting vegetables." Sabina answered, confused.

"That's an interesting place to get a scar from a knife. Especially when you're cutting food." Naomi pointed out, gripping Jim's hand.

"I thought that too." Sabina said, freaking out a little. Naomi noticed, which just made her feel even more protective on Jim.

"Naomi, are you sure you're okay?" Kayden asked, inching towards Naomi. She nodded and smiled.

"I'm just a bit messed up about this whole thing." Naomi said, standing up. "Do you guys want anything to drink?"

"No, if you're okay I think I'm just going to go." Sabina said, awkwardly walking out the door.

"See you later!" Naomi said, trying to hide how scared she was.

"You don't look okay." Kayden muttered after Sabina left. He had closed the door and locked it. "You knew about that scar, why are you freaking out now?"

"Right before Jim became unconscious he described the person that hurt him to have a scar exactly like that. Same hand, same spot, same body shape! It was female. I'm almost certain it was Sabina." Naomi said, her voice angry, but hushed.

"No way. No. No way. You've- you've lost it." Kayden muttered in denial. "I-I-I have to go."

He fumbled for the door handle before letting himself out. Naomi stood in the kitchen, not wanting to believe it either. Bones would believe her. He'd have to.

"What?!" Bones asked, sitting at the table.

"I know it's Sabina, it has to be Sabina!" Naomi insisted, getting more and more frustrated.

"It's not that I don't believe you, but the fact that it was a female and had the same scar doesn't prove much." Bones tried reasoning.

"She hates Jim. She's never really liked him. She nearly freaked when she found out I was dating him. What if she got a bunch of people to work for her and hurt Jim just to get at me? But I'd didn't do anything!" Naomi said, shaking her hand back and forth. It helped calm her nerves.

"Do you think there was anything? Was she ever mentally unstable?" Bones asked, being as calm as he could.

"I don't think I did anything and she was never mentally unstable. That I know of. But usually people like her have a motive. Something they want." Naomi said, tapping her foot.

"Do you have anything she'd want?" Bones asked, still being calm.

"Not that I know of." Naomi said, looking over at Jim. He still looked so small and fragile.

"Let's just tell the police and let them handle this." Bones said, picking up the phone. He called the police and left an anonymous tip of who could he after Jim Kirk. "Now we just wait for results."

"I hate waiting." Naomi grumbled, moving over to the couch across from Jim.
