19~ Hunting in The Ghoul Master's Lair
Hours after Diana and Dean left Artemia:
"Chandler! He's not answering. Actually, my calls are directly going to voicemail! Now, what has Dean gone off to do?!" Rosemary bursts into the courthouse office where he is meeting with Imogen. The two of them are discussing what to do about Crowley, who is missing and shirking his duties as a chosen leader.
"Rosemary, that is not the way to enter -"
"Etiquette be damned! I am talking about our son! Where is he?! He always responds to my calls or texts, so I know something is happening with him as his mother! Pardon my rudeness, Lady Dragul, but you must understand as a mother yourself." Rosemary bows her head to the older woman and then looks back at Chandler.
"I've been here all day figuring out with Lady Imogen about our next steps if the Three Generals attack us while also trying to figure out how to get Caroline back. I'm sorry if I haven't been preoccupied with our adult son!" Chandler ends up snapping a little at the end. Rosemary frowns deeper as she looks at her stressed husband. His attitude leaves her speechless.
"I'm sorry, that was too much. So much is going on, and I can't break my focus everywhere. Did you check with his friends?" Chandler questions his wife in a calmer tone. Rosemary waves her phone in her hand and nods.
"Yes, so now they're worried trying to get in contact with Dean. They said they would try their friend Diana, but I think she hasn't responded either as they haven't gotten back to me." Rosemary says, no thinking twice about her words. Chandler pauses and starts to think about the possibility of them being off somewhere together. It is impossible to ask someone about Diana's location since she doesn't respond to anyone as an orphan adult.
"Chandler, still no response from Crowley. This man sure knows how to disappear." Imogen says, annoyed. Chandler starts to think further about things. He knows all too well how Crowley has wanted to be close to Diana. He had been convinced to back off when he was a teenager due to having no real power or any kind of status. Now, he is at the top of the power chain in Artemia. There would be no stopping him from finally approaching Diana and telling her the truth of their relationship. It is unclear what that will do to the safety of Artemia.
"Rosemary, darling, Dean is going to be fine. He's an adult and is probably spending time with a girl he likes away from us." Rosemary is a bit horrified at the thought of Dean being away from home doing things she doesn't want to imagine with another woman. Chandler gently places his hands on her shoulders and gives her a gentle peck on the lips. "It's alright. Now head on home."
"Oh! Dear, no! I need to go see my friend! I'm going to the Matthews household. If I see Chelsea there too, I will ask if there are any updates about Dean!" Rosemary steps back and rushes away. Chandler sighs, wondering how he has been able to balance out such high-energy people like Rosemary and Dean. Yet he still loves them so. He closes the door and looks back to Imogen, who is just getting more upset.
"I'm so sorry about that, Lady Imogen. But... I think I may have some clue as to what is happening with my wife's outburst." Imogen snaps her fan closed, and her attention is fully on Chandler.
"Well, go on then!"
"Yes, of course. Well, my son is a very proud member of Artemia, and he feels like he has to be a hero. I believe my son has gone off to try and rescue Caroline -"
"What does your son have to do with Crowley being missing? Also, if we have not gotten any word about where Caroline has gone missing!" Imogen interrupts Chandler. He sighs and continues.
"Yes, well, this relates, I believe. Because I don't think it is just my son who has gone off to play the hero. I believe that Diana Green is also involved. That means if she is involved in something dangerous, then Crowley would not be too far behind. There is a strong suspicion that he has already gotten close to Diana Green and may have begun to turn her against Artemia." Chandler is able to explain his idea to Imogen. Her wrinkled hand is clenched tightly around her fan. Her knuckles are very white because of the pressure.
"Unbelievable! This is why I had told Charon that it was best to leave those two in the Koa Acacia lab. But no, everyone foolishly thought that an underground lab was no place for two babies with unidentifiable origins as well as a pair of siblings. What was the point of releasing them to the world?!" Imogen yells out in annoyance.
"Lady Imogen, the only ones that can answer that would be Vincent Matthews and maybe the daughter of the late Dr. Amory, Suika Amory. She should be the one who has been left the notes and research on Diana Green since she was brought into Artemia as a newborn. That was the last report from Vincent before everything had kept getting worse. She was together with Crowley the day prior." Imogen goes to grab her phone and furiously dials a number. Chandler watches out for who she is calling.
"Captain Amory, this is Imogen Dragul! Report to me as soon as possible. If you are able to contact Vincent Matthews, bring him as well. There is much to discuss." Imogen hangs up before Suika can really make an excuse not to go.
"Come on, I was finally able to sleep after another stint of no sleep for the last thirty hours." Suika yawns as she lifts her head up from her messy desk. She looks down at the mess of papers that she slept on. She gathers up her notes she has for Diana and the notes she began on Crowley. She stuffs them all into her backpack and steps out of her office.
"Captain Amory! Your hair!" The secretary at the front entrance calls out as he sees the mess of her her. The hair tie does nothing for it. She touches her tangled mess and hums disinterested. "Don't just act like you don't care! If you're going out, do something about that rat's nest." He scolds her. Suika half sighs and half grunts from the words.
She undoes her hair, running her fingers through her tangled hair to settle some of the mess before she puts it all back up into a messy bun. The man sighs and shakes his head, she had fixed almost nothing with her hair. Suika waves him off and heads towards the door.
"Closet."
"I knew that." She turns to the correct door and heads outside to get towards the courthouse. A Koa Acacia vehicle waits for her. She grabs her personal phone and calls Vincent Matthews, a yawn escaping her as the phone rings.
"What is it, Captain?" Vincent calls out on the other end. Suika rubs away tears that slip down her cheeks.
"Where are you? Crabby Imogen wants to meet with us now. I think she has questions about KA-001 and KA-002. I mean, why else would she call for us specifically when you're retired-ish, and it's not really in my field to do rescue missions. I'll pick you up." Suika explains all she thinks is happening.
"Of course she does... I'm at the hospital. I'll meet you out front. See you in a few." Vincent and Suika both hang up without exchanging farewells.
"To the military hospital of the Sintek family." She calls out to the driver as he awaits her command. He begins to drive to the location as she sits back on the chair, her eyes wanting to close again. She's so tired, but her own research ends up keeping her awake sometimes. Especially now that things have become so interesting as the results of the blood work and spinal tap for Diana and Crowley start to show significant changes from their previous reads.
"I'm here." Suika jumps as she hears Vincent slam the door closed. She looks at him confused and then looks around. She had no idea how much time she lost track of, but now she is here with him. She realizes she really is that tired if she has momentary lapses of blacking out. Suika doesn't bring it up with Vincent.
"Great, then our stop is the courthouse. How much do you plan to reveal to Lady Imogen?" Suika turns her head towards Vincent. He has a handkerchief over his mouth and nose as he glares daggers at her. She slightly lifts her arm and cringes a bit. Sleep was not the only thing that Suika forgot to do during her sleepless nights.
"I don't have the most recent results of KA-001's recent lab work, so I'm not sure. You have not given me those results yet." Vincent mentions in a suspicious tone. Suika nods and looks to the backpack between them.
"The tests are not complete yet. So, I suppose she will get old information." She does not bring up to Vincent all the new things she is discovering. She is eager to see their completed tests, but she's sure that she won't get easy access to Crowley's stuff. The physical was the only taste of Vincent's side of the research she would be getting.
"I suppose. Ugh, are we there yet?!" Vincent can almost feel a headache coming on being in the enclosed space with a smelly Suika. Usually, he loves all young adult women, but Suika manages to repulse him in all ways with her mannerisms and poor hygiene. Vincent realizes she usually gets like this when she is researching something very interesting. He can't help but wonder what has her attention now. Her dark circles seem even darker than usual.
"We've arrived." The driver calls out as he parks in front of the building. Vincent doesn't wait for the driver to open their doors before he steps out himself and get some fresh air. Suika climbs out as well. She follows behind Vincent.
"Excuse me, do you have any perfume of deodorant?" Vincent stops into a share office space of a bunch of women. They look at the disheveled Suika and realize why Vincent came over to ask them such a thing. They all hold out either some fragrant spray or deodorant. He takes all their offerings.
"Here, kindly mask your awful scent." Vincent orders the young woman. Suika takes the deodorant and the perfume to cover up some of the small that is coming off of her. Vincent shakes his head and continues onto the offices of the leaders. Suika isn't too far behind. She yawns again and scratches at her head, making her hair even messier.
Vincent knocks at the door, waiting to be allowed in. He does so once Imogen gives them permission. The pair enter and put their right hands over their hearts and bow their heads. Imogen is flushed as she fans herself. Chandler is sitting next to her as they look to them.
"Captain Amory mentioned that you wanted to see us. What for if I may ask?" Vincent questions as he looks to the two leaders. He's not surprised that Crowley is missing. Not even this would make him eager to be of use to humanity.
"As we all know, you and the former Dr. Amory has kept an eye on the two children that were brought into Artemia from outside of The Wall. They have grown up, and we have not seen anything significant since then about the two of them. They seem to be two ordinary humans." Imogen says, annoyed. Suika hums to herself and shakes her head.
"Not ordinary. The two of them have far more magic reserves than any ordinary human. Even among the strongest members. Not only that, they can cast powerful magic without channeling through a wand or magic item. We are, in fact, discovering that KA-002 AKA Diana Green has these same abilities as KA-001 AKA Crowley. My mother and Dr. Matthews missed a lot of research potential by having separated the pair their whole lives." A small smile twitches at the corners of her lips. She almost seems lively in spite of her tired appearance. Vincent looks to Suika curiously. Wondering what she plans to say to Chandler and Imogen.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Chandler questions now. Like he had not expected something to turn up after all this time.
"Our analysis is not complete, but... what is available to me is that something has changed in their magic. They have dormant magic in them that is unlike anything a human has been able to use before. They appear like something ordinary at first, but they are beyond something a human can do. So, as has been discussed for years, Crowley and Diana can be the ideal weapons of mass destruction against the monsters! And being together is exactly what we need!" Suika stretches out her arms as she proudly proclaims this. Vincent takes a step to the side to put some distance between them. His dark eyes are ice cold as he glances at her.

"Alright, you're all dressed and have your markings. Your names for now are changed to Adina and Edan in the goblin language." Sasha explains to the pair as they all stand outside. Crowley can't help but lightly laugh to himself. The pair look at him confused.
"What's so funny? They sound like nice names." Diana mentions to Crowley. He smiles a bit and looks to Sasha. She clears her throat a little.
"I... uh, I just used your names... it's an anagram of your individual names... Diana and Dean." Sasha admits to them. Diana and Dean feel a bit embarrassed that they had not caught on as quickly as Crowley had.
"Oh.. that's cool!" Dean compliments, his mismatching eyes filled with awe. Sasha is taken aback by his innocent enthusiasm. Diana smiles as she glances over at him. She agrees that Sasha has used her mind to make some really cool names for them.
"Then, let's get going, Edan." Diana says with a bit of laughter in her voice. Dean smiles over at her and nods.
"Okay, let's go, Adina! We'll try to be back as soon as we can. Please take care of Aunt Caroline." Dean looks to Sasha and Crowley.
"Can do." Sasha agrees.
"Diana." Crowley calls out as he takes a step closer. Diana looks over at him. Now, she is just forcing herself to stay mad at him. He kept his word and had come to help Caroline, but she couldn't forgive yet that he allowed things to come to this point. None of this would be happening if he had mentioned something to the higher-ups. Yet not even to her had he thrown the goblins and ghouls under the bus. He continued to protect them. Which she is partially proud of.
"What is it?" She questions him in a wary tone.
"Use this to call out to Calliope. It's a magical translating device that will cast out your voice in the mermaid language. That way, no one else becomes suspicious if they catch on to the call. It is supposed to travel a long distance, so it should reach Calliope eventually in the waters... If people have been allowed to go back to their homes, that is. It's a risk." Crowley admits, since he had almost forgotten that the merfolk were not allowed to leave Artemia while Caroline is missing and there are no suspects besides accusing the Three Generals.
Diana takes the small conch shell. It looks like any ordinary shell she has seen in the mermaid gift shops. She closes her hand around it and nods. Diana can at least trust that Crowley wouldn't give her some dud object.
"Be careful out there. If you need help, I'll be there." Crowley says with a lonely smile on his face. Diana looks at him, pressing her lips together before turning away. Going back over towards Dean. He looks at her sad expression. Dean gently grazes his fingers on her arm to encourage her not to let things continue.
"I'll be back, and I'll be careful." Diana says softly, glancing at Crowley. He smiles kindly at her and nods. The pair put on their hoods over their heads and leave towards their destination.
"Now that they're out... I'm going to look for that way out for you two. I'll explore the area of this place and map it out for everyone. We can leave the mapping of the city to you, Sasha." Kiara heads to the door to tell this to Sasha and Crowley. The pair nods in approval of this plan.
"Thanks for watching Caroline. Just leave the rest of the watch to us." Sasha says before walking past Kiara. Crowley nods a farewell before following Sasha back inside. Kiara stretches her body before she shifts into her wolf form and heads off to the ends of the mountain to walk around it.
"We've been doing this in and out, and the goblin woman has not -"
"Droogwyn... her name is Droogwyn. She has allowed us to make this our home base. Actually, she is not in favor of Amon. Her granddaughter is actually one of the women that was taken to live there, and she hasn't heard from her in fifty years. So, she is grateful that I am helping take care of her. Though, right now, I feel uneasy being here instead of with them. I had a long talk with her last night after you all went to bed." Sasha admits to Crowley as they go back to the room Caroline is resting in. She walks over towards Caroline and checks in on her condition, making sure she is still stable.
"I see. Well, I suppose that's good in a way. There's also a messed-up system here. People like the Three Generals are also making a mess of things like the leaders of Artemia." Crowley mentions more to himself than to Sasha towards the end.
"We really are..." Sasha and Crowley look towards Caroline as she speaks up.
"Oh, hey, how are you feeling? Does anything hurt?" Sasha questions as she gets closer to Caroline's face in order for her to not strain her voice so much. Caroline looks over at Sasha.
"My baby... my baby -"
"She's okay, stay calm and relax. We saved your baby girl just in time." Sasha assures her with a gentle smile. Caroline calms down and puts her hand to her stomach, and nods. She takes a deep breath and lies back down on the head rest to sit up. Sasha sits back and gets some water for her to drink and fill her stomach with something before they try food.
"Mmm, that's enough. Who... who saved my baby? Where are we?" Caroline looks around the area.
"This is the home of a goblin woman named Droogwyn. She is giving us shelter as we figure out a way to get you all out of here without getting caught by Master Amon. She's not a supporter of his, so we are safe here in the meantime. We are beginning to plan how to get out. Kiara has gone out to find an opening around the mountain. Diana and Dean have gone to send word to the mermaids to see if we can get you safely back to Artemia." Sasha explains their plan. Caroline's brow furrows in concern for her nephew.
"I see... and how will that go?" Caroline wonders what kind of plan has been formed.
"Your nephew and I will be getting you out of here, which is why we need an alternate path. Diana and the officer will get out through the ordinary way, so they will be a distraction just in case they catch on that we are not all together. Not that anyone knows we are all here. I believe at this point Amon believes that only Kiara, myself, and you are out here somewhere. We are most likely being hunted. The siren may be as well." Crowley gives her the short version of the plan.
"I don't think it's safe for me to walk around, so -"
"We're going to make sure you don't have to walk. Once we are close enough to the mountain edges, I'll teleport the two of us out of here. The mermaids will help us get back to Artemia as, at that point, neither one of us will be able to move." Caroline's eyes widen. She had no idea that Crowley could do such a thing. "I've done it before, so we'll get from one place to another in one piece. That's why we are getting close to the mountain edge. It uses up all my magic, so I'll be immobile for the rest of the day."
Caroline now sees why the two of them are teaming up while Diana and Kiara will serve as distraction. There was no mention of Sasha, so it is clear to Caroline that she does not plan to leave. Sasha will stay behind, to protect the women, and be away from the ocean. It doesn't sit right with her after all she's done, but she knows that Sasha wouldn't have it any other way.
"Alright, so that's the plan. Are we confident in the skills of Diana Green and Kiara?" Caroline questions Crowley.
"Of course, I'm sure you're aware of her skills. I'm not dumb, I know the Five Elite have secretly gotten together to discuss not only me but Diana as well. So, you know Diana has similar skills to myself even if she had kept them hidden all this time. I know that you've all been watching the two of us since we were babies." Crowley lets out the truth that he is aware of what they've been doing behind his back. Caroline does not deny anything nor confirm it. She does wonder how he got that information.
Sasha shuffles a bit as she feels like she's listening in on something that is confidential. Yet, they are here, and Crowley doesn't seem to care that Sasha is aware of this information. Caroline nods, not going further with Crowley in that respect. Her feelings have changed deeply and in an impactful way since coming to the ghoul master's lair.
"Um, say have you thought of a name for your baby girl?" Sasha tries to change the conversation. Caroline looks at her for a moment before looking back at her stomach.
"Originally, I had planned to name her after my great grandmother, but... I changed my mind. Her name will be Zaleia... strength of the sea. In honor of you and all you've done for me, Sasha." Sasha's eyes widen as she looks at Caroline smiling to herself. She blinks away the pearls that want to develop in her eyes.
"That's beautiful." Is all she can say in as calm a tone as possible. She smiles at Caroline and takes her hand. Caroline gives it a gentle squeeze and smiles back. Crowley looks on at the two of them, he had a lot to say, but he sees that Caroline has learned a lot being here more so than the forty years she's lived isolated in Artemia. Artemia was not diverse enough to show and teach the humans there just how they could all live in harmony with the monsters there.
He looks away and lies back on the mattress he had been provided. He has to find ways to keep his mind occupied and not worry about Diana being caught or running unexpectedly into Amon. He's sure that Diana would be his type of woman just like Caroline was. Which is why he had been able to see her dressed in a way she would never be caught dead in. Her hair being down is also not a common sight. Maybe even her husband hasn't seen her hair down all that often.
"I'm worried that I may have given her a name all too soon. Especially after nearly losing her. Just I had lost her two older siblings in the same way. Where I spontaneously started bleeding... I was further along both times. I named them too..." Caroline jumps startled as Sasha does one hard clap in front of her face.
"Do not go into those thoughts. Have faith that this is a strong little girl. Zaleia, remember what that means. You said it yourself. She will have the strength of the sea, and that is a powerful force." Sasha encourages Caroline in the best way she can. Caroline nods, seeing that she has a point. She has to have faith and believe that Zaleia will be born.
"Yes, you're right... I'm just concerned that she has to be born at such an uncertain time. I fear what will happen if the Three Generals win. I had thoughts like this before, I was worried that my other children would be born during a time of war. Now, for certain, we are in war with this stunt that was pulled." Once more, she wraps her arms around her stomach, trying to protect the little one in her womb.
"Just let me deal with that. I know the ones who are responsible for bringing you here, so I will handle it once we are back in Artemia." Crowley speaks up. The women look over to the young man as he lies, looking up at the ceiling.
"How do you know who was responsible?" Caroline finally questions as she processes what he says. Crowley looks over at her.
"I overheard them, and I misjudged that they would be successful. I truly believed that they wouldn't get this far, and now I have to fix this." He admits to Caroline. He figures she should hear it from him and not from anyone else once he gets turned in by Kiara when they return to Artemia.
"You knew this would happen?!" Caroline yells out in disbelief. Sasha jumps startled and tries to calm Caroline down. Crowley sighs. He really can see now why every time he brings it up, it makes someone angry. Especially Caroline since she was the one affected by his decision not to say anything when he found out what the plan was.
"Yeah -"
"Does your disinterest for the lives of others know no bounds?! How could -"
"Oh, I'm sorry, did anyone care about my life when I was left in an orphanage and separated from my twin sister? Or the fact that I didn't know I had a sister until I was thirteen years old?! Hmm, or when I was forced to keep my distance from her until I had a position of power where I would be able to protect and take care of her?! Maybe even the fact that I've been monitored all my life like I could be something dangerous?! Oh, I know! How about the fact that you all seem to think that I don't know you want to use my powers to fight against the Three Generals?!" Crowley throws out all the things that he has been silently fuming about his entire life. "And that's probably only scratching the surface, I can't help but wonder what more you all have kept from me. If you think I'm angry, I can't wait for Diana to find out all of this, too! So excuse me for not caring about the people who made this my life! That not one person stood up for us!"
No one says anything after his long rant. Caroline knows that she has no place to contradict what Crowley has said. He eventually stands up, embarrassed that he let loose like that. Yelling out at Caroline all his frustrations when she isn't the only one who caused his life to be this way. He heads for the door of the room.
"Crowley!" He slams the door closed as he walks out. Caroline doesn't call out to him again and is unable to look at Sasha as she witnessed all of this. Sasha clears her throat and gets up, also unable to say anything to all of that either. It isn't her place , which she believes. But she gets why Crowley would be angry at everyone in Artemia.
"Um, I'll have Droogwyn come check on your condition now that you're up. I'll be right back." Sasha also goes for the door. She is surprised to see the old goblin there. Caroline is startled to see a pureblood goblin and not the modern halflings she's accustomed to. She looks between Sasha and the old woman speaking in the goblin language as they walk over towards Caroline
"It's alright. Droogwyn will take care of you and your baby. She's an excellent maternal healer and will make sure you two are safe and sound for as long as you're here. So, be at ease." Sasha assures Caroline as Droogwyn brings up her materials. Caroline nods and waits for what she has to do. Now that things have settled a bit, her thoughts wander over towards Dean and Diana.
~0~
"I wonder why Sasha thought it was enough to send us out with these clothes and the goblin markings?" Diana questions as the two of them try to walk around as casually as possible around the fairly lonely streets. They look to the landmarks Sasha mentioned to get to the exit gate of the mountain.
"I think it's because my two colored eyes were enough. I mean, a lot of goblins nowadays either look like half animals or half humans, but the humanoid ones definitely can pass as humans if they don't have a skin color beyond the regular shades humans have. I honestly don't want to be painted blue or something. That sounds hard to wash off." Diana chuckles a little as her brings this up. She does understand why his heterochromia would be enough of a unique trait to pose as a goblin.
"Right, that makes sense. I think we'll be fine as long as we don't get talked to in the goblin language." Diana hopes that it remains as simple as it has been this entire time. Dean puts his arm around Diana's waist to stop her from walking further. Diana is startled but starts to hear sirens. She assumes that those are some sort of officers that are on the lookout for Crowley and Kiara. All the pair can hope for is that her huge magic attack didn't get caught.
"I'm guessing they're still looking. If Amon has gotten word, he's gonna make these officers work overtime." Dean whispers to Diana. She nods, and they wait in the shadows for the sirens to move away elsewhere. They start to move when the sirens resound in a different direction.
"We're almost there. We just gotta keep it natural." Dean looks around again before they try to walk on as an inconspicuous couple. Diana makes a soft sound of approval as they keep on walking. She glances around, more so to take in this new environment. She had never been outside of Artemia. Now that she thinks about it... no one in the group probably has left Artemia since none of them, other than Kiara, are on active duty in the military. Though things will be changing now that the school has changed. It is preparing for war instead of just teaching their young students.
"There's going to be more people, probably. For sure, there will be goblins and ghouls watching over the gate. Sasha said we'd be okay if we had the markings on us. We wouldn't need any documents if we were just going outside for a bit. I still remember the important phrase in the goblin language." Dean assures himself and Diana. She smiles a bit and nods. As they make their way closer, she puts her arm through his.
"You got this. Okay, we're coming up to a line. I'll be quiet now." Diana whispers before doing as such. She keeps close to Dean, trying to look like a couple as best they can. Dean nods, keeping them intimately close as well to keep up the charade. Though, for the two of them, this closeness means something.
The line moves slowly, and people also file along behind them. Everything is going smoothly so far.
"Oh..." Diana gives Dean's arm a light squeeze as they see differently dressed officials making their way towards the line. They seem to be discussing something in hushed tones. Dean leans in and kisses her forehead. The closeness allows him to whisper.
"It's okay. Keep to the script. As long as we don't look suspicious, it'll be fine." He reassures the nervous young woman with a gentle smile. It eases her nerves, and she walks on with him as the line continues to move.
It takes them about fifteen minutes to get to the front. The guards and officers look them up and down to check for anything suspicious. Diana looks up at Dean. The goblin asks the question they are both familiar with that Sasha mentioned. Dean responds accordingly.
The pair tense up once the officers step up. He speaks to them in goblin in an intimidating tone. Neither one has any idea what was just spoken. Diana thinks quickly and tugs on Dean.
"What's he saying? You know I'm still trying to learn the goblin language. It was too fast." He looks to her and catches on to what she's doing.
"It's alright, um officers, could we speak in the human language for the sake of my wife?" The two of them expose their goblin markings. "She is new here and is still learning our ways."
The official grunts a bit and motions a different officer over. He appears to explain that they need human language. He nods and turns to Diana and Dean.
"Alright, we are officers of the law. We are in search of a pair of suspicious people. They are causing some trouble. But it looks like neither of you fit the description. A man with dark hair and blue eyes. A woman with dark hair and golden eyes. Have either of you seen anything suspicious?" He questions the pair. They pretend to look confused at him and then at each other.
"No, I'm sorry, Officer. We haven't seen anyone like that or paid much mind. We are still getting to know our area of the city. I just need some sunlight and to get my feet in the water. We'll be out for an hour or so." Diana explains as sweetly as possible. She presses closer against Dean to emphasize how in love they are as a newly married couple. The officers clear their throats.
"Go on." He says, moving aside. Diana and Dean nod their heads gratefully and walk out, continuing to stay casual. They release a breath as they start to see the sunlight. Once outside, they shield their eyes after being away from the sun since getting there. It takes a couple of minutes before they can finally lower their hands.
"Whoa..." The two of them look out to the ocean and look out at the vastness of it. They see the vast amount of trees around them where the mountain resides. They had never seen such a sight before.
"Amazing, I've never seen anything so beautiful." Dean speaks out as he stares out at the water that sparkles with the sunlight. A huge smile is on his face as he stares on in amazement. Diana's jaw is still slightly agape as she takes in the sight. It's a beautiful sight without a wall blocking it. She walks down, slightly stumbling as she steps onto sand. She crouches down and runs her fingers through it.
"It's so warm, and some of it sparkles under the sun... it's amazing!" Dean follows after Diana and smiles as he sees how genuinely amazed she also is. He holds his hand out to her. Diana takes his hand, and they make their way towards the water's edge. They take in the scent of the salty water, watching the tides come in and out.
"We really are missing out on so much behind a wall. Can you believe there are people who have never seen this sight? I haven't seen something this beautiful beyond a window." Dean mentions as he bends down to feel the cool water touch his fingers. Diana follows his lead and nods. She had never seen a sight like this until today.
"We really don't need a wall once this war threat ends. There are people who get to see this every day. I want to be one of those people." Diana hadn't dreamt that what she found outside of The Wall would be this beautiful. She didn't know what to expect when she spent her days thinking of leaving Artemia. Now she feels like it would be so easy to do leave, that she doesn't need to be behind The Wall anymore. Even if she doesn't find the answers to a family she doesn't know about.
"Me too..." Dean says as he looks over at Diana. She looks over at him in surprise. "Sorry, but you're not going anywhere in this world without me." He holds her hand, squeezing it. Like as if he were desperate to ensure that Diana wouldn't go anywhere without him. She leans in, and they gently kiss for a moment, feeling like an ordinary pair in love. It feels a bit sad when they pull apart.
"That would be nice, but... what would that mean for Artemia? You're the only son of the Acacia family that's an adult. I'm sure your father and aunt can't maintain Artemia forever. Aren't the founding families supposed to be at the helm of things?" Diana knows just how much Dean loves Artemia and how much he wants to do not only for that place but the people that live there. How much he wishes to support the monsters that just want to live peacefully with humans.
"Ugh, I don't know anymore. I could answer so easily before, but... I don't want to lose you, Diana. I don't want you to disappear somewhere we can't meet like we do now. There's no way I can make my dreams come true without you." Dean looks at her sadly. Diana sighs a bit and smiles.
"Well, that can't be a very reliable dream if you need me for it. Dean, I promise you will be find accomplishing your goals and dreams with or without me. I have no doubt about that... Yet, I also don't think I can be without you either. I've come to selfishly rely on you for a lot of things. We sure are a mess." Diana laughs a little as she finally stands up and grabs the conch from her inner pocket. Dean follows her lead and looks to the conch in her hand.
"We have something to do, so I guess we can talk about it once we are safely back in Artemia. Let's call for the mermaids." Diana stands at the edge of the sea, feeling the water seep into her shoes when the tides come up. She takes a deep breath and blows out into one of the corners . Only air seems to escape from it, so it feels like it's not working.
"Maybe blow it in the water?" Dean suggests to Diana. So, she ends up walking deeper into the ocean, where the water reaches right under her knees. Diana nods and kneels before the water. She leans in so the conch can touch the inside of the water. Once again, she blows into it. Dean looks out into the waters to catch onto anything in sight.
Diana stands up and looks out into the water, walking back to get out of the water. They look at each other after not seeing anything.
"Let's wait a bit. It would probably take her a bit to get here." Dean suggests. The two of them nod in agreement and wait out by the water's edge in silence. It gets broken a few times with false alarms when they believe they see something coming over to them.
"We're gonna run out of time. Maybe Crowley was misled." Diana says, disappointed. Dean frowns a bit and takes the conch from Diana. He goes into the water himself and goes inside to blow the conch. He ends up coming up coughing as he gets some inside his nose from trying to catch his breath under the water. Diana is startled and goes to check in on him.
Dean dives back down and goes to blow the conch again, but it is pulled away from his hands. He squints slightly to try and see what happened. He sees a blurry face before him. He is pulled up to get air by Diana.
"Dean! What are you doing?! Give me the conch!" Diana yells out at him. He takes deep breaths.
"I saw a face! Diana, there was someone down there!" He calls out to her. Diana looks at him confused, and they both look down at the water as semblance of platinum hair starts to rise up. The pair steps back as they see the beautiful mermaid. Her hair doesn't move out of place as water slides off of it. Her body is the color of light gray, dark gray, and white. Some scales on her body stand out more than others. She holds the conch in her webbed hands, recognizing it.
"Uh, my name is Diana! This is Dean! We came out here to ask for your assistance. Crowley said that you would help us. You're Calliope, right?" Diana asks, also feeling like she's seen this woman before. Maybe not in this form as she's never really confronted a real-life mermaid with their real skin.
Calliope reaches into the water, making Dean step in front of Diana to make sure nothing happens. Calliope pulls up a small chest with a chain, making it resemble a purse. Calliope opens it and pulls out a potion. She drinks it, and her body starts to change into a human appearance. Dean blushes as he realizes she's naked and turns away.
Diana also blushes, but her eyes keep glued to the beautiful naked woman. "My eyes are up here." Calliope teases, Diana.
"I'm not looking!" Dean says, thinking that she's talking to him.
"Sorry." Diana mutters distractedly as she looks into her sky blue eyes. She is entranced by her extremely long eyelashes that don't seem to weigh down her eyelids or bother her.
"Diana?!" Dean questions her confused. He keeps his gaze on Diana.
"Nothing! Geez... Uh... let's do this!" Calliope looks curiously at Diana as she hands her the cloak she was wearing. She takes it and puts it around herself to shield herself, stepping out of the water so the potion doesn't wear off. Dean and Diana let out a breath and walk up behind Calliope towards some rocks where they can sit down.
"What relationship do you have to Crowley? Actually, tell me everything from the beginning." Calliope questions as the pair sit across from her. Diana and Dean look at each other, wondering how to start this explanation.
"Well... we came all the way to Amon Bedivere's lair to rescue my aunt. Her kidnapping was part of the reason why Artemia was shut down. Crowley managed to get us to this point as he knew who had taken her. Yet, right now, she's in a vulnerable state, so we have to make sure we can get her out safely. Our way in was blocked, so we need to take the long way back towards Artemia. We were hoping you and your people could help get her and Crowley back to Artemia. He's going to be immobile, according to him, once he gets her out of there. Can you help us accomplish our plan so we can get out of here safely? Please, my aunt is pregnant, and I want to make sure that my little cousin is born." Dean explains to Calliope. She looks between the pair and looks to Diana.
"What's your part in all of this?" She wonders. Diana looks at her, confused.
"My part? I just wanted to help Dean because I knew I could. Yet, I don't have the magic to get us out of here. Also, I had to make sure that Crowley made up for what he allowed to happen. So, there, that's my part." Diana crosses her arms as she says this. Calliope is curious as to what this all is, but she's sure that she got the gist of what the situation is.
"If it's for Crowley, I can absolutely find merfolk that are willing to help. He has done so much for us, so we are on his side. When do you all plan to leave?" Calliope wants to confirm just how much time she has to round up the help that they need.
"We are figuring out the layout of this place as well as getting a landmark for Crowley so he can teleport himself and Lady Caroline as close to the water's edge as possible. Will you be able to help? We know that the mermaids are the subspecies of the ghouls... so it could be -"
"Trust me, we do not want to be run by Amon. That man has been the worst to many of our young women. Many of us try to hide away from his sights. So, we will absolutely help the friends of our ally." Calliope smiles at the pair. Diana smiles, relieved, and nods.
"Thank you. It's unclear yet where they will come out of. So... I ask that you have people circling around the area. If that's okay." Diana tries to keep as polite as possible to keep things peaceful.
"Yes, we can do that." Calliope assures her. Dean and Diana look at each other, relieved and thank Calliope for helping them out. The mermaid smiles kindly before reaching into her small treasure chest. She digs around and pulls up a card. "I believe this is yours."
Diana looks at the card confused until she realizes it is her student ID. Her eyes widen as she takes it back. She thinks back to the last place she used it. A lightbulb seems to go off as she realizes that Calliope works at the salon where she got the magical wig for Hannah when she was staying with her. Calliope smiles as she realizes that Diana has caught on to who she is.
"Um, wow, thank you. I hadn't realized that I had left this behind." Diana tucks it away into her pocket.
"It's no problem. It appears you were in a rush on that day. Well, I'll go speak to the others. I hope to see you all tomorrow." Calliope stands up and removes the cloak. Dean jumps startled and shields his face. He is blushing brightly as he does so. Diana's eyes widen, and she stares again. Calliope waves and goes back into the water, slowly turning back into a mermaid. She dives under the water and disappears.
"I have yet to see a mermaid who isn't beautifully curvy." Diana says distractedly. Dean peeks and takes a breath now that Calliope is gone. He looks at Diana and hugs her, pressing their foreheads together.
"Hey, look at me now. I'm surprisingly a jealous person." He says to her. Diana blinks back into reality as she looks into his eyes. She laughs a little as she keeps their foreheads pressed together.
"Yes, yes, I got it. Now... we should quickly head back. We gotta update the others on how things are going. We should continue to be fine as no one realizes we don't belong here." Diana pulls back, taking Dean's hand in hers. He holds her hand back, and the two of them walk back towards the entrance to the mountain. They glance back at the beautiful sight they had gotten to see for the first time. It helps awaken a hope in them that this war will change their word drastically.

Kiara has been roaming around the outer edges of the mountain for a couple of hours now. She has avoided getting close to the gate of the mountain. She had found some potential spots where the weather has eroded some spots. However, they were either too small or were in the process of being repaired. The goblins and ghouls seem to also keep in mind that the mountain could erode and change completely if they don't maintain the upkeep of the mountain.
Her journey continues until she slips into a hole that she missed as she was walking. Her eyes were only set on the mountain walls and not on the ground beneath her. Kiara's long tail begins to wag as she realizes that this exit is big enough for men the size of Crowley and Dean. She shifts back to look around and gather what she can to not only hide the hole but also mark where it is. As she has to recall the path she took to get back to Droogwyn's home.
"There, this should do it." Kiara dusts off her hands, looking around to make sure that no one noticed her doing anything. She nods reassured and then raises the hood of the cloak around her. It will be easier to walk around normally through the city in her human form. She just has to keep her bright yellow eyes out of sight from anyone who walks too close to her if there is anyone wandering about in her path.
She is a tall woman, so it's possible for her to stand out in places like this. Especially if she's around humans. According to what Sasha said, most people that would be out right now are the human women who need some sunlight to make sure they don't suffer from any deficiencies because of the lack of sun as most of the goblin wives don't leave the mountain city once they get here. Especially not without their partners.
Kiara looks around for important landmarks that will ensure that she is able to find her way back safely and easily. She hopes Sasha's knowledge of the city will also help determine the safest path for them when the city is bustling with life. They have yet to see if they'll be able to leave right in the morning or if their way out has to be at night. That will be a decision that could make this rescue mission the easiest thing in the world or something hard. Either way, both would lead to a dangerous journey.
A soft growl escapes Kiara as she hears someone call out to her. She can only assume it is in the goblin language. Her hand holds the hood over her head, lowering enough to try and shade her eyes. Kiara must focus hard to make sure her eyes don't begin to glow as her wolf starts to become defensive. It is ready to come out to fight if need be.
"Or are you another human that doesn't know the goblin language?" The raspy male voice calls out. Slowly, she glances back and sees an incredibly short man with paper white skin and hollow looking eyes that glow to show he has eyes somewhere in the sunken sockets of his face. Kiara gulps as she realizes he fits the description of the ghoul master, Amon Bedivere.
"That's right. I was just heading home after being out in the sun. I just needed a walk first." Kiara says carefully. Covering her bases so he doesn't become suspicious of her. Amon tilts his head. He had called out to her in the goblin language, thinking she was a man. Her voice makes it obvious that she is a woman and her jawline is much softer than a man's. He almost thought he would come face to face with an unmasked man. That would have made him furious.
"Well, aren't you lucky to have run into me? Turn around, let me look at your face. I don't think I've seen you before. I know many of the beautiful women in this city. Both married and unmarried. Are you a new bride?" Amon questions as he takes a step closer. Kiara clenches her jaw, trying to quickly decide if she should flee or face Amon. Even she doesn't know how her abilities will go against the ghoul master. It has been told time and time again that the only thing that can stop him completely is the Holy Grail, which no one in her party has access to.
"Well? Come on then." He orders again. Kiara keeps a hold of her hood.
"I'm afraid a tall woman like me is not a beauty. You said so yourself, you know of the beautiful women. I am not one of those women. I'm sorry to disappoint you." Kiara bows her head, hoping that will be enough to dissuade Amon. "Farewell." She tries to leave quickly.
"Nice try, you mutt." Kiara yells out in pain as her body is grabbed by a giant arm. Her hood slips down, and Amon is able to see her face. He can finally see her bright yellow eyes and elongating canines. He becomes larger to match the arm he extended and grew. "So, is the old bat lady sending out spies? I already found one of your filthy kind dead in my territory. It's such a delight that she sent out a beauty like you. You'll make up the blonde beauty that ran off on me."
"I will never be used by you!" Kiara yells out at Amon and manages to sink her teeth into his hand that holds onto her. Amon yells out in pain as he drops Kiara. She lands on all fours, fiercely growling at Amon. Amon turns his hand to bring it down to crush Kiara. She falls back from being crushed painfully by him.
"You filthy bitch!" His voice echoes, it is deep in his larger form as he brings his hand down. Kiara shields herself, but knows it will be useless. Nothing happens as she hears Amon struggling. Her eyes snap open as she sees the shadow of his hand looming over her. It is stuck in place with deformed buildings that stab into most of his arm.
"So much for staying out of trouble. Move!" Crowley calls out as he traps Amon's arm. Kiara manages to get up and runs towards Crowley. Amon is disgusted at the sight of Crowley's handsome face. It makes him furious.
"Unhand me, disgusting man!" Amon growls as he tries to pry his arm free in spite of it injuring it further. Crowley smirks a bit as he catches Kiara's arm to bring her up to the trash bin he climbed on. Crowley waves mockingly at Amon before having the stone below them push the bin and they roll away to get to a safe spot.
"How did you find me?!" Kiara questions stunned. Crowley keeps his eyes forward as he looks out for anything they could crash into.
"It was a coincidence." He states bluntly, not expanding upon anything. Kiara stretches her arms, feeling the ache all over her body after having Amon crush her body with his hand.
"Were you impatient and decided to look for Diana?" Kiara mentions as she glances at his profile. His serious expression doesn't change as he keeps his gaze forward. He doesn't answer her question, but Kiara is sure that Crowley must have had that in mind.
"DAMN YOU!" Amon's voice resounds through the entire mountain. The city vibrates and an alarm starts to blare.
"Holy..." Kiara's curse is cut short as she sees a giant Amon towering over the city buildings. He does not reach the top of the mountain, or he would cause even more catastrophe.
"Shit!" Crowley maneuvers his magic to stop the bin so as not to crash into people that begin to run out of their homes or places of business.
"Where are you, intruders?!" Amon yells out, each time he talks the buildings shake. Kiara and Crowley jump off the trash bin and blend in with the crowd. Running where they run to.
"Uh?! What's happening?!" Diana is confused by the ensuing panic as they make their way back to Droogwyn's home. Dean looks towards the city, and he sees the giant Amon towering over the center of the city. He looks furious.
"Come on! We gotta go!" Dean grabs Diana's hand, and they run the rest of the way. The pair manages to see Sasha and Droogwyn come out of the house to look out towards the center of the city.
"Is that Amon Bedivere?!" Diana questions them shocked as she sees the towering man looking around furiously. They can hear him yelling and shaking the city from where they're at.
"This is bad... he probably saw a man's face! This hasn't happened in a long time. I have to go, I have to calm him down!" Sasha starts to run, but Dean and Diana stop her.
"No! That sounds like a terrible idea! He doesn't look like he can be reasoned with!" Dean insists with Sasha as she tries to pull away from Diana. Diana nods in agreement. She also does not want to see Sasha get hurt.
"I can use my siren song! I've done it before!" Sasha smells the cloaks on Dean and Diana that have the scent of the ocean on it. "Yes, Diana, give me this cloak! It has enough ocean water to help amplify my siren song!"
Diana sees how determined she is. They know that right now, they are not ready to move out. Calliope just left and probably hasn't gathered her allies yet that will help them. She releases her and takes off her cloak.
"Diana?! I don't think this is safe!" Diana goes over and holds his arm.
"Dean, Sasha knows Amon better than we do. We have to trust that she can calm him down before he starts to destroy everything. Not only will we all be in danger, but all the citizens of this city. We have to let her go. For the sake of your aunt, who is probably freaking out right now." Diana explains what she got out of this conversation. He reluctantly nods and backs away. Sasha nods and starts to run towards the city.
"Aunt Caroline!" Dean runs inside to check on her. Diana stays outside as she looks out at Amon's enormous size.
She is curious as to why Crowley nor Kiara have come out to check on things. She turns back to look at Droogwyn. Her wrinkled face seems even more upset as she too observes the destruction Amon is causing.
"Um..." Diana is unsure how to ask the goblin about Kiara and Crowely. They haven't gotten to introduce themselves to the old woman. All she can do is sigh and turn back to the destruction.
"Friends... over... Amon." Diana jumps and looks back at Droogwyn, who attempts to use human speech to tell her about Crowley and Kiara. Diana feels chills run through her body as she looks out with concern. Her shaking hands bother her, so she holds them towards her chest.
"Kiara... Crowely..." Diana starts to feel the urge to go help them, but she's sure that they are far more skilled than she is. They will be fine... is what she must convince herself of. She knows that she would be in the way and draw in even more unnecessary attention. She takes a breath and keeps her eyes towards the giant.
"We have to stop running, or he's going to destroy this whole place! That could put the others at risk!" Kiara stops running as flying debris flies overhead, landing awfully close to them and the fleeing citizens.
Crowley also stops and looks back over at Amon, keeping to the shadows with Kiara. He clicks his tongue, trying to decide what is best. Diana could still be close to the city. Maybe she's just coming in. All those thoughts pass through his mind.
"Fine, but we can't exactly face him head on either. He's gonna have allies, and this would be the first time we are facing one of the Three Generals directly. We've only heard stories of the kind of power that they have." Crowley reminds Kiara. She nods, also feeling unprepared to face such a large-scale opponent. It takes her back to her earlier struggle with Valkhar. She couldn't face him without Crowley's help.
"I know, but we don't have a choice. It looks like he doesn't care if he destroys this place or harms his people. That's the worst kind of opponent." Kiara and Crowely track Amon as he swings his arms around. He grabs people and tosses them aside when they are not the ones he is looking for.
Kiara growls at his actions and uses her powerful hind legs to jump up towards the top of a building. Crowely watches her go, building up whatever wind comes in and also jumps after her.
"HEY! DOWN HERE, MASTER!" Kiara and Crowely are stunned as Sasha yells out as loudly as she can. Amon stops and looks for the direction of the sound, trying to find her past the sound of the warning siren. "ALMOST THERE! I'M ON THIS BUILDING!"
"Sasha?" Amon pauses and looks at the siren. She holds up her arms.
"I'm here, Master Amon. You have to stop, you're destroying your city! You're hurting your people! You have to stop! Don't let some pesky intruders ruin your focus and power!" Sasha calls out to him. Amon reaches his giant hand over to her and wraps around her small body. Any excess of force could snap her into many pieces.
"That's right, I'm right here." Sasha leans her head on his thumb, stroking it gently. She works her seduction and begins to hum her love song to him. Crowley and Kiara shield their ears so they are not taken in by the sway of her song.
Amon is affected more than usual and starts to shrink down, bringing Sasha down with him, his shrinking hand ends up on her leg.
Sasha kneels down and holds his face, continuing to sing to him her hypnotic song. Amon let's out a sigh, placing his face to her breasts. Sasha strokes the bald part of his head, her face full of fear. She looks up to the building and motions with her head for Crowley and Kiara to run away.
The pair make the tough decision and run away. Sasha nods her head and looks down at Amon. She hadn't realized just how relieved she had been being away from him until she was back in his presence.
"Sasha, you disappeared without a word. Where is my blonde beauty?" Amon questions as he starts to grope her chest. She shivers in disgust but keeps her tone calm and collected.
"Forgive me, Master. I lost track of her when we were chased by the big scary shifter that was sent in by Serena Bathory. I tried to look for her for you." Sasha lies to him. Amon lifts his head up and holds her face.
"Oh, Sasha, you know you're not smart or strong enough to do such a thing. You should have come to me immediately to handle it." Amon says sweetly, but he is digging his fingers into her face. Sasha whimpers in pain but tries not to say anything to make him hurt her further.
"Now, don't distract me, I have a bitch and disgusting man to hunt down for intruding in my territory. You can then tell me about all the trouble you've been up to when I get home." Amon smiles in a scary way that unnerves Sasha. He holds up his hand as what looks like a spike comes out of his palm.
"No... no, please, Master. I don't want it..." Amon gently strokes her cheek with one hand and then sticks the spike into her neck. Sasha cries out in pain as the veins on her neck and face begin to bulge as he injects her with his toxins. Amon pulls it out once she quiets down, and her body becomes limp.
"I'll see you soon, my dear." Amon holds the zombified looking young woman and forces a kiss on her. Sasha barely responds and falls to her side as she tries to speak. It is incomprehensible and slurred. He pats her hip and starts to laugh as he jumps from building to building to find Kiara and Crowley.
Now that his mind has been cleared up by Sasha, he can go hunt them down much easier. He will not let anyone stop him from finding the runaway pair.
"I hear him... I hear him laughing, and it looks like she couldn't buy us enough time!" Kiara warns Crowley as they try to run out of the city. The route becomes more complex as they have to either climb over rubble or find a completely different direction.
"Then, I guess we will have to face him as he catches up to us. Now we gotta watch out for the tiny man instead of the giant monster. So, I don't know what's worse... if he's out of control or calm." Crowley looks around. His eyes catch a white flash heading their way, and he pulls Kiara back as a fist slams into the building they were just about to pass.
"Found you..." Amon cackles as he walks down the alley, his paper white skin making him appear to glow in the shadows. Kiara and Crowely prepare for the worst.
