CHAPTER 47
"Letter for me?" Kana blinks, confused, as she accepts the envelope given by Leopold as they sit near the table in the hall, having their lunch after doing some training. "From who?"
"Just open it!" The youngest Vermillion grins childishly, feeling giddiness overpowering himself.
"Hm?" Opening the envelope gently, it unexpectedly burst open.
A wildfire flared before her, making Kana jump onto her feet while Leopold merely watched in his seat, entertained.
Words start forming from those flames, saying, 'Get ready by the dawn. If you want to get stronger, come with me!' They started disappearing as fast as the words formed, leaving the white envelope to drop on the table and disperse.
"The hell was that?!" Kana heard someone yells, but shocked by the scenes, she glanced over at the older boy, who flashed a reassuring smile.
"Nii-sama found the best teacher for you. Don't asks, get ready. She will be waiting for you." Leopold says and walks away, leaving Kana with her own thoughts.
Randalf, who has been watching with other senior members, hums. "If it is someone, I think it is—" He tilts his head and sighs before smiling. "We will have a hell of a duo."
Kana was hesitant to go to some unknown place with her future mysterious teacher. But she needs to get strong. More potent than she is right now.
After a tearful farewell with her forest companions but she soothes them by saying that she will visit after her return, she also informs Yuko-san about her journey, but it seems the older woman already knows the person instructing her. She told Kana that she would be in good hands.
Surprisingly, the other members also bid them luck for her, and even some seniors gave her pale looks that weren't reassuring, with some even muttering their pity for her future.
Only Randalf and Leopold were there to send her away as they waited in front of the opened portal.
"Send her my greeting, 'kay?!" Leopold beams brightly.
Kana nods, correcting the straps of her bag with Muku already waiting by her side. The letter never mentions whether she should come alone, so she chooses the latter.
"Oh, this—" The redhead passes the young Vermillion a few letters with names addressed to everyone. "I didn't have time to tell them, so I wrote letters. Please send them for me."
"Hm." The boy nods surprised that she even had time to write some for others. "Will do!"
"Have a save journey." Randalf stepped forward, a gentle look on his face. "We will be here waiting for you."
Kana looks at him in awe before smiling back at him, nodding. "Thank you. Please send my regards to Owen-san and—" Her expression turned sad that both understood her.
"I will write to you if there is anything new," Leo promises her.
"I appreciate that, let's go Muku."
"Ku~"
Taking a deep breath, she steps through the portal with a heavy heart and is greeted by a waft of hot air that instantly makes her sweat. The portal starts closing behind her as she looks around the insane place surrounded by volcanos and magma.
"It's boiling here." She fans herself using her hand, muttering.
Muku, however, didn't seem affected as it happily swayed its tail, enjoying the heat.
"I see that you are already here!" An obnoxious loud voice greets her from behind, making her jump and get ready in a fighting stance. "Hoo."
Kana frown when her eyes befall on a woman with blue eyes and long, wavy vermilion-coloured hair. Like Fuegoleon and Leopold, she has red markings around her eyes and one sharp, pronounced canine tooth similar to the youngest Lion.
"Who the hell are you?" Kana narrowed her eyes, but her stance flattered as she didn't sense any bad intentions from her.
The woman laughed that making the girl scowl. "The name is Mereoleona Vermillion! And from now on! You will be on a hell of training with me! So better prepare yourself, or you will be running back with your tail between your legs, puny girl!"
'Puny—' An irk mark appeared on her head as her eyes twitched in annoyance. "You sure is a barker for your age, aren't you— grandma—"
'grand—' Mereoleona's eyes twitch. "Ha~ I see you sure have the balls, right?"
"Why? Did that hit the nerve?"
Flames engulf both lionesses with an image of a bigger lioness behind the older woman while a cub on Kana, but eyes flaring with braveness that shows none of them is going down without a fight.
Muku watches in amusement, tail lashing around with its head tilting with curiosity as it can smell the same ash from the two males back home.
Father Orsi and Sister Lily smile at the church as they read the new arrival letter.
"She has always been like this." Father sighs, worrying about the little girl that used to be so quiet and barely said a word.
Sister chuckles. "Kana-chan has always been someone who likes to be the protector. She has always been one since she was a child. Say— Father. I have been wondering— How did Kana-chan end up here?"
The older man didn't answer her instantly as he let out a sigh with his eyes watching the other children chasing around each other. "Let's just say— The day I found her— the day she suddenly appeared in front of me—"
He remembers those thundering nights.
The night a child drenched with rain, standing in the middle of the road, trembling right outside the church with her bare feet in rugged clothes.
Her eyes are dull and empty. Almost lifeless, as if she didn't care for anything, he could still see the flame and hatred behind those scarlet eyes.
Five figures in the Clover Kingdom also received the letter right after the girls' departure.
Zora read the contents and sighed in disappointment before throwing a kick at a member of the Silver Eagle squad. "Hime-chan sure are cruel. She must forget our supposed date tomorrow." He chuckles as he folds it and puts it away as he continues, leaving a trail of the fallen squad from a few members of Magic Knights.
Julius Novachrono watches the stars scattering around the sky with his back facing the opened letter. He had a smile and a distant look from reading the content.
"Is there something wrong?" Marx, who senses the difference within the Magic King's exterior, asks with a pile of documents in his hand upon entering the room.
"We should be looking forward to another brilliant potential. But, it sure will be quiet for a while now." Julius sighs, eyes sadden before he looks at the documents that start piling again on his table. "I—I don't feel so good."
"Don't worry." Marx glares at the Magic King with a knowing look. "This might help you out." His eyes stare coldly at the older man who slumps on his chair in defeat.
"How can you be so cruel? I just lost my cute little daughter—" He comically sniffs.
"She just going for training, not running away from home. Now stop trying to get away! There's already a few more coming up!"
"Marx is so cruel."
"THAT'S NOT FAIR! I want to come too!!!" Asta shouts upon reading the letter.
"Why are you being loud all of a sudden?" Noelle, annoyed upon hearing his loud voice, entered the base after readying for her day.
"Kana-chan, so unfair~~~."
"Huh? What happened?" Noelle picked up the letter and read it to herself when the boy who cried silently told her to read it herself. "I see. Kana-san has gone for training. It must have been tough for her."
"So unfair!!!!"
"So loud!"
PUNCH
"ITEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
"Kana-san wrote a small message saying, 'If Noelle read this and Asta being loud, punch him for me'. She said."
"Kana-chan, so cold!"
Yuno eyes never left the letter he had been rereading since it arrived. He was saddened by her sudden departure but pleased she could finally achieve her dream of becoming stronger.
Sylph has her chest pumped after knowing her rival won't be there, messing with her potential relationship with Yuno and laughing. "It's good that she won't be here any longer! I hope that she stays—"
Before the spirit can finish her words, Yuno sends her away with a gush of wind, annoyed that she reminded him that he won't be able to meet Kana for a while.
But the last part of the letter put a smile on his face, making a tint of blush paint his cheeks.
'We should go to that pub again. I really have so much fun talking with you that day. I look forward to doing it again when I return.'
Kana
"I miss her already."
William watches from his office where Yuno is standing on the practice ground with a letter on the boy's hand, the same as the one on his hand that has made him smile upon its arrival.
He knew the contents were different from him as she barely knew William, but the thought that she even thinks of him as someone who should know her whereabouts flatters him.
"What a silly girl."
