CHAPTER 29
Over one of the library tables, hundreds of opened parchments and records sprawling around, each contains reports on attacks over villages around the kingdom. Still, none of them have any similarity to Kanazawa village.
Kana on the verge of pulling all the hair off her head from spending too much time searching for any clues that could help her find the culprits behind the attack.
"This is such a waste of time!" She angrily throws aside a recorded book. Leaning back over her chair, she pinches the bridge of her nose, feeling a throbbing headache.
William glances up from scrolling around some parchment, and his expression softens. He can feel the disappointment and anger feeling coming from her. He decided to help her by looking around, but not a single question answered after hours of looking around. "I'm sorry." He rolls the parchment and put it back into the box. "I wish I could help more."
The red-haired girl waves her hand around dismissingly. "No, it's fine. You already help a lot." But her voice was cold as if she close to losing herself once again.
The sounds of pit-pats with some swishing fill the silent room, and Muku appears with a book between his teeth.
Raising her eyebrows and narrow her eyes. She notices the book wasn't a records book. It has a brown hardcover with golden insignia on each corner. In the middle of the front cover written, 'The Tale of Elven: Race of Demonic Beings.'
Taking away from his jaw, Kana frown as she glances around the book. "Where do you find this?"
"Ku~" Muku excitedly spun around and sat as he points his mouth over the book then look at her.
"You want me to read this?"
The beaming look on his face answered her question.
Unnoticed by the two of them, another soul in the room's expression darken, but he keeps his mouth shut.
"I never heard of this book." Kana mutter opening it.
William leans forward, crossing his arms. "This book mostly passes around the nobles' families. Just some scary tale to scare the children so they won't misbehave."
"I see~" She hums, but her eyes skimming through the content of the story.
The Captain's jaws clench tightly, and the aura around him suddenly darkens, but the red-haired didn't seem to notice the change; only the young beast does.
Muku bares his teeth, warning the man as he senses that the one sitting in front of his companion is no longer the same person. Loud growls, finally snapping Kana out of her concentration.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Patting his head as she tries to calm the dragon who bared his teeth over William with his eyes, never leaving the man. "Muku, stop it."
The girl grows confused at his sudden change of attitude. Earlier, he didn't seem to mind the Captain of Golden Dawn's presence, and now he's watching him as if he's an enemy. "S—sorry about him." She apologizes as she glances back at William, who smiles at her, showing that Muku didn't threaten him. "I don't know why he—" She was cut off by Muku snapping his teeth at the man. "Stop it!"
"No, it's fine." The masked man calmly states, smiling.
Muku slowly backs down, but his eyes never leaving the man, but he laid down on the floor by the flame user's side.
Kana sits back on her previous seat, still frowning. "I honestly don't know what's up with him. He never acts like this to anyone before."
"Maybe he won't like that I'm hanging too long with you that he got jealous." He playfully suggests.
Instead of brushing his words, she was worriedly watching Muku, whose eyes still on the Captain of her childhood friend's squad.
"But I must say—" William change the subjects earning the girl's attention. "Never have I thought that I would see a real living dragon. How lucky am I?"
Kana scratch her chin. "Are they that rare?"
"They are!" He excitedly states. "Dragon is among the strongest and rarest magical creatures. Some say that they're able to use mana abilities, which unlike any other creatures. Some also find them sacred since they have been flying for thousands of years. Not many have ever able to lay their eyes on them, only from those who use creation magic."
"I never know that." Kana nods, understanding. She then frowns as her eyes catching the drawing of elves with a menacing expression on them. "Do you think they were there when elves still around?"
"Maybe?" William shrugs. "Why? Are you afraid of the elves?" He chuckles a little. "Don't worry, and they are not—"
"That wasn't it." She cut him off, catching him off guard.
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you find it weird? It said it here—" She pointed over the page in the book.
"That the elf tribe has strong mana in them. The strongest among them used forbidden magic to turn himself into a demon because they want magic for themselves. Then the first Magic King defeated the de— no the elf. So, where are the others? Did he kill them too? Isn't that a murder? Are those the right things to do? Just kill them all for maybe a few of them being evil? We humans also the same, right?"
Cleaning her fists with her frown more in-depth as her eyes skimming around the paragraph of the story. "Not all of us are evil, but still, we do have those who have bad intentions! I don't know why, but don't you think this book is just about elf is evil and Magic King defeated them. What about the reasons behind their attacks? What happens to their tribe? Why aren't any of them lefts to tell the rest? W—"
A hand comes on top of her clenched fist, making her stops rambling.
Kana didn't realize that she has blurted out everything on her mind and glance up to apologize for rambling, but instead, she froze with a look of shock painted her face.
Tears dripping down William's face with a sad smile on his lip. His trembling handgrip on top of her knuckle.
Slowly, he took off his mask, revealing a large scar covering the entire upper half of his face, stopping by over the bridge of his nose.
He pulls both her, clenches her hands, and turn them over as she slowly opens her palms, revealing crescent red marks made by her nails. He raises both her hands in his grasp and kisses them.
"Thank you."
Blush creeping around her cheeks as she remains speechless, not knowing how to react to his gesture.
She didn't understand why he's thanking her, and she damn well didn't want Yuno to know this, or he attacks his own captain if he heard about this.
-Meanwhile, at the Dungeon-
A spark of unease feeling thrust Yuno's body. He quickly turns around, frowning. "That's the second time it happens. What was that about?"
"Yuno!" Mimosa called out after noticing that Yuno has stopped following her and Claude.
"Sorry. I just had a bad feeling." He jogs to keep up with his squadmates.
"Was it the enemies?!" Claude shout worriedly as he looks around and readies his grimoire.
"No." Yuno shook his head. "I just feel like someone trying to steal Kana-chan."
Blinks
"Huh?/ Eh? Who?" Both Claude and Mimosa tilt in confusion.
The dark-haired boy's expression beam up and proudly/shamelessly state. "My future bride."
"Eh?"
"EH?!"
QUESTIONS TIME!
Who do you wish Kana to be with?! Some more characters that will be appearing in the future may be added too as candidates. I never intend for this to be a harem kind of story but just as the flow of the story goes on, it all comes to this. Sorry about that.....
But I just curious of you guys thought! Tell me about who you think Kana will end up with?!
A/N: Honestly, sorry for the rush chapter but I just want to update as much as I can while I still have time too. You guys also were so kind and I thanked those who were so understanding of my situations.
There may be another update tomorrow or Sunday if I manage to finish a few more chapters.
I really want to finish this story because it is one of my favorites among my other stories which also because I love Black Clover, hehe.
Anyway, thank you so much for reading, and please leave some of your opinions and vote for them.
Love you GUYS! And stay safe!!
