Death
Is the first thought that came into her mind when she opens her eyes. She no longer standing in front of the hunter, instead, she's leaning against a huge cherry blossom tree.
Tickling her feet are glowing white anemone that almost in purplish. The only last thought coming back to her is that she took a stand in front of Muku readying herself to accept her fate. She only assumes that the opponent has done his last blow and here she is now.
A sigh escapes her. "I'm sorry, everyone. Sorry for breaking my promise."
"𝖂𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖒𝖎𝖘𝖊?"
"Eh?" Kana baffle as now stood in front of her is a shadowy figure.
Its bright eyes glued on her while she stays astonished by the new comer. Tilting its head a little it in inhumanly voice said. "ℌ𝔢𝔩𝔩𝔬"
"Who are you?" She asks after finally finding her voice. Frown forming over her face as she watches the figure took a sit in front of her.
"𝔚𝔥𝔞𝔱 𝔡𝔬 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔪𝔢𝔞𝔫?" It tilts its head mockingly. "𝔚𝔬𝔲𝔩𝔡𝔫'𝔱 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔩 𝔮𝔲𝔢𝔰𝔱𝔦𝔬𝔫 𝔟𝔢, 𝔴𝔥𝔬 𝔞𝔯𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲?"
The frown deeper over her forehead. "What are you-"
"𝔗𝔥𝔞𝔱'𝔰 𝔢𝔫𝔬𝔲𝔤𝔥 𝔬𝔣 𝔦𝔱." The shadow her off in a lazy tone while leaning against its palm over the knee. "𝔇𝔬 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔨𝔫𝔬𝔴 𝔴𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔰 𝔦𝔰?"
She wasn't happy by the fact that she was cut off earlier but the later question confuses her. "I'm dying aren't I?"
It was silent between them after she spoke.
The shadow let out a loud laugh making Kana turn red in a mix between anger and embarrassment.
"W-what so funny about it?!" She shouts. Her red face only worsened as the shadow rolled around, still laughing hysterically.
"𝔚𝔥𝔞𝔱 𝔪𝔞𝔨𝔢𝔰 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔱𝔥𝔦𝔫𝔨 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔞𝔯𝔢 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔡?" It suddenly stops laughing and appears in front of her, making her flinch back and hit the tree trunk.
"I-" The red-haired girl trail her words, not having an answer for it.
"𝔏𝔬𝔬𝔨 𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢." The figure then pointed towards a flower field where the small figure of a girl could be seen. Her clothes were muddy and tattered leaving her arms and legs bare.
The little girl's soulless eyes were staring at her, the bags under her eyes gave her a tired look. Her body was full of cuts and bruises not to mention, her disheveled red hair. Despite her condition, the girl flashed a genuine smile.
"Who-"
"Don't search for it." The little girl pleaded. It broke the older girl's heart, hearing how tired she sounded.
"Search for what?" Kana stood up and walked towards the girl. "What are you talking about?"
"Please." She pleads with tears flowing down her face. The younger girl clenches her tattered cloth. "You will hurt him." Her mouth trembling with tears dripping down her chin. "He will hurt you."
"I-it's okay." Kana stutter trying to cease the girl's tears. "C-c-calm down. Why don't you-"
"It will break you. I'm sorry." After the last words uttered out of her mouth the little girl slowly disperse into petals.
"Wait! What are you talking about?! What happening?!" Kana turns around only to note that the shadowy figure also has disappeared. "Somebody, please?! I-I-" She fell onto her knees panting madly as she feels her throat clog, feeling like she's about to puke.
The distraught imagine of her village burned and people lying dead near her feet flashing in seconds making she clutch her head. Blood soaking her clothes and painted her feet. The scream of people begging to be saved and children crying for their parents.
"Stop it. Stop it, please. Stop it."
"STOP IT!"
A loud gasp feels the room as Kana woke up feeling herself drench in sweat. She pants loudly and clenches her eyes shut, muttering. "Nightmare."
Taking the sight around her, she assumes that she's in one of the chief's houses room. The light provided by the moon illuminates the room giving her enough to see across the darkness. Glancing down, she notices that she now wearing her dark green tank top that she brought as spare cloth and she pulls it up and stare at the bandage circling her abdomen.
Putting it back down, she touches her bandaged head and looks down her also bandaged arms. "Still alive." She mutter and about to lay back onto the futon but the sound of the door slam open making her jump. She glances over to see who it is only for her to be tackle by a hug.
She holds back a whimper feeling sting of pain over her abdomen and pats Main's head. "Sorry, did I make you worry?" She can feel her dark blue tank top getting wet which makes her sigh knowing the younger girl is crying. There was silence in the room as Kana keep on smothering the girl's hair in hope that it will calm her down.
"I see that you are finally awake." Ōura appears leaning against the door frame with Leopold beaming beside her.
"You finally awake, peasant!"
Kana sigh but a smile creep over her lip. "Are you missing me, noble snob?"
Leopold grin whipping his nose. "I kind of deserve that didn't I?"
"How are you feeling?" The older dark-haired woman asks as she took a seat beside the futon. "You have us worried there, especially Main."
Both of them watch the frown appear on the girl's face knowing full well that she didn't understand Ōura's words.
"You have been sleeping for four days." Leopold state, sitting beside Ōura.
"Four days?" Her eyes widen. "What happens to the hunters?"
This time, both of them frown and look at each other.
"Don't you remember? You are the one who defeated them." The boy asks back.
"Only two of them." Kana fearfully state and starting to panic by seconds. "There three of them! What about Muku-"
As if being called, the little beast appears out of nowhere and leans over her shoulder. It snuggles over her cheek and let out a content sound, sounding happy that she's awake.
"What do you remember before you passed out?" The vermillion-haired boy leans in a serious tone.
Kana scratch Muku's chin making it let out a contented sigh. She then adopted a thoughtful look as she spoke up again. "I remember standing in front of the third hunter and then nothing. Just-"
"𝔄𝔰 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔴𝔦𝔰𝔥"
She shook her head. "I'm sorry. I don't remember anything. Did he get away?"
"No." Leopold answer. "When I arrive, he was beaten badly. Something must happen during the battle. Main told us that he's a Steel Magic-user and from what I see that his magic was backfired. I also have no more answers than that. I also have contact the base. They have sent a few other members to bring those three over to the castle. They are being interrogated as we speaking."
Kana nods feeling satisfied with his answer then glance toward Muku whose poking sleeping Main. "What about Muku? What will happen now?"
The boy sigh, folding his hands against his chest. "Given that Muku is a dragon and classified as a dangerous creature, I doubt that Muku will be allowed to roam around here anymore."
"Main will be sad if she loses her friend." Kana glance over the young dark-haired girl sleeping soundly as she used the older girl's lap as a pillow and Muku joining sleeping beside her.
"Why don't you rest for now? Ōura cut her train of thought. "You just woke up, we will continue our conversation tomorrow."
Kana nods and watches the older woman gently pick her daughter up. "Sleep well."
"You too." The older woman smile with Leopold waving over her also getting back to his room to rest ad close the door.
Kana sighs feeling herself being tired despite four days of sleeping. She slowly fixes her position to lay back on the futon but only for her eyes to befall on bright blue eyes. "Are you going to join me the night?"
Laying her head down, Muku follow her and laid down its head but eyes keep watching her.
"Sleep well, Muku."
The little dragon keeps its eyes on the girl and watches her until she falls back asleep. Its eyes then glance over the figure sitting by the window.
A shadowy figure with bright eyes keep its eyes on the girl as she sleep soundly.
