The sounds of people awing and gasp at the sight of the captains of each squad surrounded her but the girl's expression remains stoic.

"That's the Captain of the Silver Eagles, Nozel Silva!" She hears the boy beside Asta state. She remembers hearing him introducing himself, was it Sekai? Senma? Sen? Whatever his name is.

The girl then glances over a slender male with fair skin, narrow purple eyes, and a small pair of eyebrows. He has pale, silver-white hair worn in a very distinctive style. He has a long and straight hair at the lower back, the top and upper side portions of his hair are heavily styled and swept back into a long spiky fringe. His long bangs are styled into a braid that hangs between his eyes and down to the tip of the nose, where a small pendant is attached.

"What's with that weird hairstyle for?" Kana mutter.

Yuno stops by her side and couldn't help but also in awe. "That's.."

"-one of the captains of the Magic Knights Squads." Asta continues also gaping at the line of people up there. "That's some hairstyle! Isn't it hard to see with that thing in his face?"

"The Captain of the Crimson Lion Kings, Fuegoleon Vermillion." The blond hair boy continues over a tall man with purple eyes and long, straight vermillion hair. His hair is neatly combed to the back while leaving his long fringe combed to the left in a wavy hairstyle. He also has a diamond-shaped mark of red color on the center of his forehead. "As the name 'Crimson' suggests, he's a user of flame creation magic."

"Whoa..."

"The Captain of the Green Praying Mantises, Jack the Ripper." A tall, lean man with gold eyes and loose, medium-length black hair. On the left side of his face, he has a thin, red scar (or birthmark) running from his forehead down to his chin, passing over his left eye and ends at the left side of his mouth. He possesses very sharp facial features, such as sharp eyes and a slit-like mouth.

"What's a praying mantis?" Asta asks.

"You know, a mantis. Like, the bug." Sekke explains. "Apparently, Captain Jack's severing magic can split the earth in two."

"Whoa, that's awesome."

"Sounds a bit exaggerating don't you think." Kana coldly comments which causes Asta and Yuno sweats as they can feel the hatred emitting from her.

"But I don't want to be a mantis. Bugs are super lame."

"Just suits you." The red hair girl bluntly states.

"Ba-ha!" The blonde hair boy jaw drops at her words but quickly recover as he finally notices the menacing aura around the girl which prove that she wasn't one that he wants to be in trouble with. "The Captain of the Blue Rose Knights, Charlotte Roselei." He lovingly introduces a beautiful tall woman with blue eyes and long blonde hair that is braided. She is wearing a set of armor with a fancy decorated that has a single fin protruding from the top, resembling a shark fin. For her top, she wears a black one-piece undershirt, which extends out to her hands and acts as sleeveless gloves. On top of that, she wears a decorated armored breastplate, an armored collar plate, as well as gauntlets on her arms

"She's so beautiful." He blushes.

"Yeah, but Sister Lily's prettier," Asta comments at the same time as Yuno who instead said. "Kana is prettier."

"Oui." The mentioned girl scolds with irk mark on her forehead but her attention was back on the captains as Sekke continue the introduction.

"The Captain of the Purple Orcas, Gueldre Poizot." He states in a bored tone over a large blonde-haired man with a unique head's shape.

"That's all?"

"I have no interest in seamy guys like him." Sekke smirk. "The Captain of Coral Peacocks, Dorothy Unsworth."

A young-looking, lilac-haired fair-skinned woman of slightly below average height girl walks with her eyes close and bubble blow over her nose. She wears a pointed hat with a wide brim and a garland of natural flowers wrapped around the cone's base. Her outer cloak is clasped by a flower-shaped brooch. The cloak layers so that her insignia is on the cloak of her cape.

"Is she walking in her sleep?!" Asta exclaim in shock.

"Apparently, all she does is sleep."

"Then how'd she become a captain?" The short boy sweatdrop.

"She probably has an amazing power you'd never expect her to possess." The medium-length blond hair shrug. "The Captain of Aqua Deer, Rill Boismortier." He points over the youngest looking captain with spiky, aqua-colored hair in a messy mound atop his head who is waving over the crowds.

"Isn't he pretty young?"

"Captain Rill is nineteen, I heard."

"Nineteen?! He's only four years older than me?" Asta exclaims loudly then turns to look back over the captains with determination look on his face. "The path to becoming the Wizard King might be shorter than I thought!"

"Like hell, it will," Kana mutters making him glance over her and shout. "Kana-chan so cruel!"

"Bah-ha! Wizard King, eh? That's a pretty big dream." Sekke laughs and he then turns back over the front. "But for the next Wizard King-"

As soon as he said those words, the contestants get wilder as they cheer out loud.

"They say he's the most promising candidate." He continues.

The trio watch as an average height and a lean build man walk out of the shadow. He wears a mask that obscures half of his face. The mask is very elaborate and is made up of a large gold piece covering the area around his right eye, and a smaller blue piece covering the area around his left eye. The helmet has white and red patches of fur on the back edge and two white feathers that stick up on the left side. The right eye hole has a red border outline, with two lines sticking out on both the top and bottom halves, while the left eyehole has the same design, except white-coloured with slightly longer lines.

"The Captain of the most powerful Magic Knights Squad, the Golden Dawn, William Vangeance. The members of his squad have utmost faith in him, and it's said that in the last battle, it was Captain William who took the enemy general's head."

"If only I could get into the Golden Dawn.." Someone sigh.

"The Silver Eagles would be great, too!"

"You idiot. Only royal and noble elites make it into the Golden Dawn and Silver Eagles." Another scoff.

Kana notice the huge man that hold Asta's head in his death took a seat but there no introduction for him.

"The captains are all gathered in one place." Sekke breaths out awing at the lines of captains.

"Wow..."

"Where's the Wizard King?!" Asta enthusiastically glance around for the titleholder man.

"Bah-ha! The Wizard King wouldn't bother coming down to the exam. It's a miracle in itself that all the captains have gathered in one place." The 'bah-ha' boy explains.

"Candidates." The captain of The Golden Dawn finally spoke up making everyone grow tense. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I will be conducting this exam." He then took out his grimoire.

They all watch as the grimoire flip open and as it stops on the wanted spell the man summons. "Magic tree, descend!"

A bright light emits from it and a dark cloud starts covering the sky blocking the sun making it dark all around. Strong wind causes most of the contestants to brace themselves by the strong force.

The red hair girl couldn't help but admit, she could almost sense magic used by this man. She watches in awe as bright light brightens up in the middle of the dark cloud and suddenly huge tree roots appear as it descents over the contestants and start creating broom. Everyone was given one of them including the trio.

She took a hold of the broom and just like everyone, gave a look of confusion over the masked man.

"We will now begin the Magic Knights Entrance Exam," William announce. "We will now have you all take several tests. The nine of us will evaluate your performance, and then we will select the candidates that we would like to add to our squads. If chosen, you will join that squad."

Kana grip the broom tightly with her frown deepen.

"If you're chosen by more than one squad, you may choose the squad you would like to join. On the other hand, those who are not chosen by any captain are not qualified to join the Magic Knights." He explains. "For the first exam, we will have you get on those brooms and fly." Upon those words, murmurs can be heard all around as most of them never even ride or know how to use them. "Mages who can control their magical powers should be able to this instinctively." A demonstration was shown by another member of Golden Dawn who swiftly rode over the broom. "It is the most basic way for mages to travel. If you cannot fly on a broom, you shouldn't even be here."

The flame user glances worriedly over the ash-blonde hair boy who didn't seem fazed at all.

"All right, begin."

Upon the announcement, Kana stare over her broom and took a breath as she let her magic flow through the broom. She couldn't help but be a surprise as she could almost sense the flow within it and took a seat over the side of it rather than both her legs across each side of the broom.

Almost instantly the broom float into the air making a smile appear on her face. The sensation of the breeze hitting her making her smile even larger as her hair softly move.

A sudden move into her peripheral makes her glance over and chuckle at the boy who proudly stands right in front of her. "Show off." She comments on making Yuno approach her even more with a smile on his own.

"You did great." He praises her making her blush a little with her eyes widen. "Why don't you try standing on it?" He suggests.

Kana's head almost earns whiplash by how quick she shakes her head with a look of disbelief. "No way! If I can choose how I'm going to die, falling off a broom wasn't on the list."

The messy black hair boy chuckles and offers her his hands. "Come one, let me help you."

She stares worriedly over his hands and with her own shaking hands, she finally took his in hers. She slowly standing up by making sure to keep her focus on resuming flowing her magic into the broom, after a while she finally standing up but couldn't help by feeling more nervous.

"I will let go of you now." Yuno softly informs her.

The flame user has her eyes widen with fear written all over her face. "A-a-already?"

"Don't worry I will catch you if you fall."

"You better be or I will hunt you down you jerk." She narrows her eyes.

The boy chuckled as he slowly let go of the girl and watch as she wobbles a little but manages to withstand it. He watches the look of awe in her face as she glances downside, surprise that she managed to do it.

A bright smile appears on her face as she raises her head making eye contact with the wind user's boy. "I did it!" She almost screech in joy then gave him a close eye smile. "Thank you, Yuno."

Ba-dump

Blush appear on his cheeks upon seeing those smile and his heart almost leap out of him. He watches as the girl moves around him with a smile keep on her face.

Unknown by her, some of the captains were in awe as they watch her happily glide around the sky.

'Such control.'

'What an astonishing candidate.'

'Isn't bad for a peasant.'

'Wasn't a surprise from the four-leaf owner... but who is the other one?'

'A-ah, I feel like taking a dump.' Sigh.

As if in realization, Kana stop gliding around and search for Asta over the ground. She frowns as she saw the searched boy is having a hard time to even make his broom float. "Asta." She mutters in worry.

-Magical Ability Exam-

A block of the wall is given for each candidate which they must use their magic to destroy which will show their ability to control their power.

Sighing, Kana focuses the fire that engulfs her right hand and with a motion of it, she releases the fire making it fly directly toward the block, destroying it into pieces.

Feeling satisfied, she glance beside her and saw Yuno's block have also been destroyed. "Jerk." She smirks over the boy who simply smiles at her, used to it. She would call names on him as a substitute for her complimenting him in her manner.

Then glance over her other childhood friend. Her smile disappears as she watches Asta focusing over his block but nothing happens to it.

-Magical Ability Control Exam-

Numbers of papers with a target drawn in the middle of them were thrown over which the contestants need to focus their power and hit them as precise as they can.

A jab of fire skilfully passes through the middle part of five-piece of papers before they hit the ground. Just as she about to shout another round of them, a swift of wind beat her up and manage to hit six of them.

A look of annoyance took over her as she glances over the tall black-haired boy. "Oui!" Which he simply smirks at her which only anger her even more.

-Creation Magic Exam-

For the creation exam, Kana created a flame bird that moves around as it soars through the sky. Seconds later another bird but made of wind magic approach hers making she glance over and see Yuno smiling over her direction.

She chuckles as she let the flaming bird glide around at high speed but it seems like the boy took it as a challenge and let his chase over hers.

Both birds flew around in sync only then they spin around each other that turn them into a spiral tornado with a mix of both attribute, they fly directly to the sky and burst leaving only dust of magical puff.

Both of them look at each other with eyes wide then laugh for an unknown reason.

-Developmental Magic Exam-

For the development exam, all contestants are given a seed and need to focus their magic on it so that it would grow.

Kana tilts her head as she wipes the sweat falling off her forehead and huffs in relief as she watches her seed turning into a tree that only as tall as herself.

Glancing over her side her eye twitch as she watches Yuno's tree fully grow and even sprouting apples. "This is starting to piss me off."

The wind magic user plucks one of the apples and offers it to her. "Here."

She gave him a look and sigh taking the apple and took a bite of it. "Not bad." She mumbles with a mouth full of the juicy apple.

The boy simply smiles and they both turn over their fellow childhood who basically on the ground trying to develop the seed.

"Not yet! Not yet! Not yet!"

They didn't say anything except just watching him not even commenting about it.

"All right. The next exam shall be the last one." The Captain of the Golden Dawn announces after the end of the development test. "You will engage in actual combat."

The crowds all frown at the suddenness as they all become more nervous about the next test.

"You'll be battling!" Fuegoleon stood up shouting making the contestants gape. "You will pair off and fight with your partner. You may use your grimoires to attack. Fighting is our duty. Show us your true abilities!"

"As soon as one of you yields or becomes unable to fight, the exam will be over," William added. "There will be mages who can use healing magic on standby."

"So fight to your heart's content!"

Kana's expression darkens as her cast downside. "This is the last one." She clenches her fists. "There's no going back now." She looks up once again and almost instantly her eyes meet with the captain of Crimson Lion.

The man didn't turn his eyes away as he fascinated by the contents behind her looks. It was nothing like the other contestants who mostly would hold some nervousness or even some enthusiasm, but hers, only hatred and the look she has given him almost as she could see through him.

But as if she has enough, she glares over the captains before missing into the shadow.

Yami made a sound of the whistle with his mouth as he also notices the look she gave to them. "That was quite scary."

"Guess we have some quite interesting contestants this year." William chuckle, however unnoticed by them, there's another meaning behind his words as his eyes still glued on the red hair girl with a menacing look. 'Those hatreds.'
