Fern thrashed in bed. She yelped and whimpered, but no one could hear her from outside the room. She was crying, and finally she let out a scream.

"MOMMY!!!" The Doctor, Jackie, and Rose ran into the room, the Doctor went next to Fern.

"Fern?" Fern looked at the Doctor, she had stopped making noises but was still crying, she sniffled, her bottom lip quivered. She immediately hugged him, and began sobbing his shoulder. The Doctor tried to soothe her. "Fern, it's alright, I've got you."

"Doctor, is there anything we can do to help?" Rose said.

"No, I think I can handle it." Rose nodded and ushered her mom out of the room. "Fern, Fern, look at me." Fern pulled away and looked at the Doctor. "Fern, how about we play a game, huh?" Fern rubbed away her tears and nodded.

"W-what k-kind of game?"

"It's a game where, I'll say something about me, and you have to say something about you, and it goes back and forth." Fern thought for a moment, sniffling as she did so.

"Okay."

"Alright, I've been to the end of the world."

"I've been to Cardiff."

"I've met past version of myself."

"I've met a kid that looks like me, but she was 13, and she had freckles."

"I'm 900 years old."

"I'm 5."

"I've met the most dangerous thing in the universe."

"I've woken up my dad while he was taking a nap, and it was pretty scary."

"I've only danced with Rose."

"I've danced with my dad."

"I like bananas."

"So do I."

"Fantastic! Now I think this game is over." The Doctor patted Fern on the knee then got up to leave.

"Aw, I liked that game, can we play it again?" The Doctor froze in the position he was in. He had a hand on the door knob. He smiled and turned around.

"Yes, we can play it again, later."

"Fine."

"Now, get some more rest," Fern nodded reluctantly, when her head hit the pillow she immediately fell asleep. The Doctor left the room silently. When he got out he went up to Jackie.

"Jackie, I need to know where-" the door flew open and there was Mickey.

"Sorry I didn't get here sooner! I was in the middle of somethin' and I couldn't give up-"

"Shhh!" Rose whispered. "Mickey, you have to be quiet. Fern is sleeping!"

"Oh, sorry." Mickey said. "Wait, who's Fe-"

"What's all the yelling about?" Fern said coming out of Rose's room and into the lounge, she was rubbing her eyes. "I was just about to fall asleep whe-" Fern finally took notice of Mickey, she yelped and hid behind Rose. Mickey's eyes widened.

"Is she-"

"No, she's not my kid, and she's not the Doctor's. The Doctor rescued her when we crash landed in 2003." Rose put a hand on Fern's head. ''Come on Fern, I'll get you back in bed.'' Rose ushered Fern back into her room.

After a while, Rose came back. ''She's asleep. But keep it down this time.'' Rose said eyeing Mickey.

''I'm sorry, I didn't mean to.''

''Sorry doesn't cut it when a 5 year old doesn't get any sleep.''

"It's true, I had that problem with Rose,"

"You're kidding me, I slept fine!"

"How do you know? You were 5!"

''I have something to say about Fern,'' Rose and Jackie quieted down.

"We need to take her to a hospital, she's getting worse and I can't help her here. So we're gonna have to take her to a hospital."

"Is that what you were asking me earlier?" Jackie asked.

"Yes."

"Surely we can wait until she wakes up?" Rose asked.

"No, we have to take her now."

"Alright, you're waking her." The Doctor nodded and went to get Fern. He took off his jacket and wrapped Fern into it. He picked her up and carried her out of the flat and to the streets where everyone else was waiting. The Doctor carried Fern into the T.A.R.D.I.S. and laid her down on the captains chair and he went to the controls.

He pushed a button, kept his finger on it, and began pushing other buttons. As he did so the T.A.R.D.I.S. began to shake. He lifted his finger and pulled a final lever, and then the T.A.R.D.I.S. stopped. He picked Fern back up and carried her out, and headed toward the building that they had parked outside of. Rose, Jackie, and Mickey followed after him.

Everyone got into the Emergency Room lobby. They sat down, Fern still sleeping in the Doctor's arms-his coat still around her-, and waited.
