Chapter 24: Is Alright

Eric headed straight to Fern's room once the group had walked into Greg and Chris' home. Eric had a little trouble putting Fern down though. Fern kept a hold around Eric's neck. He had ended up throwing her on her bed leaving.

On the other hand, Greg had fixed everyone tea and was sitting at the kitchen table with the rest, tea in hand. The Doctor kept casting angry looks at Jack, who glared back.

"I'm sensing some tension here, would you care to explain?" Greg said, sitting up in his chair.

"It's nothing, just that he's a homewrecker. . ." The Doctor mumbled in his tea.

"I am not a homewrecker!" Jack yelled.

"If everyone would kindly be bloody quiet! Fern is trying to sleep!" Eric growled, sitting down next to Chris who took a long sip of his tea. It was quiet for a long time. The only sound was the occasional sipping of tea and the cup being placed back on the table. Eric finally broke the silence.

"Why'd it take so long for you guys to come back?" Eric asked, he sounded calm for once.

"You mean we're not back the day we left?" The Doctor said, putting down his tea and looking intently at Eric.

"IT'S BEEN-" Eric was about to yell at the Timelord but was shushed by Greg. Eric sighed, clearing his throat.

"It's been two weeks," Rose cast a look at the Doctor.

"I am so sorry," the Doctor said. "The T.A.R.D.I.S. does this sometimes, I apologize for my mistake."

"How long were you at the Moulin Rouge?" Greg asked, somewhat changing the subject.

"Around a couple hours really," Chris said.

"In two weeks you were there for just a couple hours? That's ridiculous!" Eric said.

"I thought we already established that the T.A.R.D.I.S. messes up sometimes!" Rose said speaking up. "There's no need to keep on complaining about it!"

Eric shut his mouth. It was quiet. Chris tapped his tea cup with his right hand's fingers, his wedding band clinking against the cup.

"What did Fern do while you were away?" Greg asked, changing the subject. Jack hid his grin by drinking his tea, the Doctor sighed and put his head in his hands, Rose let out a little chuckle. Chris smirked.

"Well, who wants to tell'em?" Jack said, still grinning.

"I'll tell them," Rose said, taking a slow drink of her tea.

"Well, let's just say she put on a show,"

The Doctor groaned and Jack let out a short laugh.

"What do you mean show?" Eric inquired, getting angry again.

"Meaning she entertained a special someone," -Jack smirked real wide- "By possibly touching him, aaand dancing with him. . ."

"What." Eric was standing now, his hands flat on the table, glaring at Rose.

"Yeah, that's what happened." Rose said calmly.

"Who-Was-She-Dancing-With?" Eric said through gritted teeth. Rose glanced at Jack- who was still smirking- finishing her tea. Eric moved his glare to Jack.

"Why are you so cocky?" Eric growled.

"Fern groped me, that is something that would make anyone smile." Jack said. The Doctor's head snapped to Jack.

"Shut it!" He said.

"Can I have more tea Greg?" Rose inquired to man across the table as Eric, the Doctor, and Jack disputed and made a grab for each other's throats. Chris watched anxiously, not wanting anyone to get hurt.

"Yes, of course." Greg poured Rise more tea, picking her cup back up just before Eric had jostled to table in an attempt to punch Jack, who dodged. Jack clenched a fistful of Eric's shirt, bringing him closer to punch him, Eric doing the same to Jack. The Doctor, who was very angry but didn't want to resolve to violence tried to break the two up.

Everyone stopped though when the sound of someone screaming at the top of their lungs penetrated to air.

"Fern!" Jack, the Doctor, and Eric said in unison. Eric wrenched himself from Jack's grasp and raced to the stairs to Fern's room, everyone else following with quick pace. The Doctor had somehow managed to get to her room first though, and when everyone else had crowded into her somewhat messy room, the Doctor was holding her close, rocking Fern side to side. Fern sobbed uncontrollably, unable to hold back her tears.

"What happened- what did you do?!" Eric exclaimed. Fern let out another sob.

"You need to shut up!" The Doctor said in a rushed whisper, still rocking Fern.

"What happened though?" Jack asked softly. Rose's eyes widened.

"A nightmare. . ." She muttered. The Doctor nodded.

"Fern never has nightmares." Chris said.

"Okay, I'm like breaking the therapist code by telling any of you this, but it seems highly important and should be said." Greg said, pushing up his glasses.

"Fern has told me that she would have nightmares when she was still a homeless child, and only once when with the Doctor. Then a few times every month or so when she was at the orphanage. But ever since we've had she's never had a single nightmare." Greg said, sighing afterwards.

"Doctor. . . The last time she had a nightmare with us. . ." Rose trailed off.

"Rose, we can't confirm that. It was forever ago and it wasn't even on that day,"

"Still, Doctor, is may be a sign-"

"No, nothing is coming to harm her, or me, or you, or anyone for that matter." The Doctor said.

"What do you mean something may be coming?" Chris asked, frightened and holding onto his spouse's hand. The Doctor sighed. Fern was starting to calm down now, only silent tears falling down her cheeks.

"Last time, she was kidnapped by intergalactic aliens. Fern was only five then, and after that is when we gave her up. . ."

"The Weeping Angels?" Greg asked. The Doctor nodded, confused.

"How'd you-"

"Fern, told me. . . If anyone found out about this, I'd get fired." Greg sighed.

"No one is telling anyone." Chris said, everyone nodded. Greg smiled his thanks to everyone and he observed Fern.

"Well, we better get her downstairs, get her some tea. Maybe get something out of her." He said. The Doctor collected Fern in his arms and carried her out, and down the stairs. Eric grumbling the whole time.

"You need to calm down," Chris had said in a low tone to Eric when he heard his son complaining. "He is just carrying her downstairs and he is very important to her and he loves her as if she were his own. If I hear one more complaint out of you, you are going to get smacked just like you did when you were a kid." Chris stomped off. Eric stood frozen to his spot in the middle of the steps. Chris had never spoken to him like that, and he wasn't deeming to find out if Chris would do it again. Eric finally finished his way down the stairs and to the kitchen, hoping his little sister is alright.
