Chapter 21: I Was Only Saying Hi

"At least I don't have to introduce myself now." Jack smirked.

"Why are you here?" Fern asked.

"Uh, I honestly can't remember who you are. But whatever happened between us, was probably magical." Jack said. Fern sighed. He couldn't recognize her.

'Great, just great.' Fern thought. 'Wait, did he say whatever happened between us was magical?'

"Wait, what? Ew! I'm sixteen!"

"Oh. Wait, why are you at the Moulin Rouge then?"

"I was dragged here. I don't actually work here." Fern explained.

"Who are you?" Jack asked. Fern thought for money, debating whether to tell him or not. She decided she'd do it later.

"Not important, c'mon, let's get out of here." I said taking Jack's hand and leading him out of the Moulin Rouge. They found a little bench outside of the club and they sat down at it. Fern's stomach growled.

"Sorry, forgot to eat lunch." Fern said holding her stomach.

"Hold on," Jack reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out a sucker.

"Uh, it's candy. It's not satisfying, but it's good. Give you a little bit of energy." Jack said.

"Why do you carry candy around?" Fern asked after a few moments of silence and sucking on the sucked Jack had given her.

"This is going to sound weird, but, I'm looking for someone. Someone that I lost a long time ago. She was everything to me and she was the cutest thing. She was my little princess, and I was her knight." Jack said. Fern's eyes widened, but she nodded, wanting Jack to continue.

"I carry the candy around because when I find her I want to give her the candy. She loved candy."

"W-what was the girl's name?" Fern asked.

"Fern. . ." Jack answered. Fern almost choked. She noticed that Jack had started to tear up.

"Are-are you okay?" Fern asked.

"Sorry," Jack wiped his eyes with the palm of his hands.

"N-no, it's alright." Fern put a hand on his shoulder. "So, you wanna tell me more about Fern?" Fern was messing with Jack at this point. She found it amusing that he hasn't figured out yet that she was the Fern that he was talking about.

"Well, she's five. Well, last time I saw her she was five. And she's probably the cutest kid out there. Curly red hair, the bluest eyes, she absolutely loves candy. She was an outcast and, uh, me and my friends brought her in and treated her like our own."

"You said, 'when you find her', what did you mean by that?" Fern asked.

"Well, after a short while, we, uh, we couldn't keep her anymore. We had to give her up to an orphanage. . .and ever since then I've been looking for her, to try and see if I can make amends and hopefully be friends again." Jack said, he had started to tear up again a little bit. Fern had started to tear up as well. She looked down at the ground, a couple tears running down her cheeks. Fern felt a hand on her shoulder and she looked up. Jack had put his hand on her shoulder.

Fern couldn't hold back and pounced Jack with a hug.

"Jack! I forgive you! I forgive you! I'm sorry that I didn't tell you sooner! I'm sorry, I-I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed as she hugged him.

"What? What're you talking about?"

"Jack, Jack. My knight, I'm-I'm so sorry." Fern continued to sob. Make-up was running down her cheeks and her didn't look up to meet Jack's gaze of confusion.

"What are you saying?" Jack forcefully pried Fern off him and looked into her eyes.

"I-I'm Fern," Fern sobbed. Jack's eyes widened.

"I'm Fern, I'm sorry that I d-didn't tell you." Fern continued. Jack continued to stare at Fern. He looked at her hair, and at Fern's tear filled eyes. They were blue, so very blue.

"Fern? It-it really is you!" Jack pulled Fern into a hug again, hugging her tightly. Fern hugged him back, crying again, but this time happily. Happy that Jack knew who she was. Happy that she finally had all her family back to together. Happy that her and her knight were finally together again. She felt more than happy, overjoyed, anything that was above all happy.

After a few moments, they let go and Fern smiled at him, wiping her tears.

"Fern, you're older, growing up right before me." Jack said. Fern laughed a little. "How old are you now?

"Sixteen." Fern said.

"My God. You are old. Meaning I'm old

"But you've looked you haven't aged a day!"

"Well, you see. . ."

For the next half hour they spent their time catching up on what they've been doing and what's happened.

"Wait, where's the Doctor? Didn't you say that he said that he's never lose you again?" Jack said smirking.

"Oh my, you're right. We have to find Chris, and Rose, and the Doctor." Fern said, taking Jack's hand once again and leading him into the red wind mill that was the Moulin Rouge. They searched for what seemed like ages but they finally found the Doctor and Rose trying to get Chris to stop flirting with one of the men that were trying to have a good time at the Moulin Rouge.

"Doctor!" Fern exclaimed running up to them. The Doctor turned and when his eyes laid on Jack his gaze turned stern.

"You again?" The Doctor said.

"It's nice to see you too, Doctor." Jack said.

"Jack!" Rose stopped trying to get Chris to leave and went over to Jack hugging him tightly. Chris glanced over and he stopped.

"Well hello," Chris said going over to Jack.

"Hey-"

"Stop it!" The Doctor said. Jack smirked.

"I was only saying hi."
