Seriously, Josh Cannot Drive A Helicopter

"Get to the controls!" Day shouted as she was thrown flat on her back. Josh struggled up as the helicopter plummeted down.

"I am trying!" he hissed back, gripping handholds of carpet and pulling himself to the steering stick.

"Not enough."

"Stop distracting me."

Day watched, spine once again flattened against the back of the helicopter as land loomed closer and closer, with dark death trees, barely shadows in the absence of the sun, and colorless water closing in in her peripheral vision.

"Aha!" Josh's shout rang through the enclosed space. Day's breathe caught in her throat as his hands closed around the controls and they lurched upward. She stumbled onto the carpet for the third time that day.

"You are a terrible helicopter driver!" she yelled.

"I wouldn't put it that way!" he shouted back, his odd hat quivering as the edge of his mouth curved into a smile. "Maybe I have a habit of forgetting things easily, or a mental disorder."

"Great," Day muttered. "Rescued in the middle of a hurricane by an insane driver flying towards who knows where. I did not expect my day to be like this when I woke up." She adjusted her pack that was sliding off her shoulders. "Are we still beating the storm?" she asked, deciding to change the topic.

"You bet," the boy said. He took off his hat and hung it on a hook on the wall. The contraption curled around it and the hat disappeared into the wall, probably being safely stored in some storage area.

"SERIOUSLY MAN!," Day yelped, noticing his hands off the controls again. "You do NOT learn do you?"

"Oh, right." the boy flashed her a grin. "I do. Just a few more little incidents like that and it will all be okay." His hands settled back on the controls again and his foot tapped impatiently. He turned around.

"You know-" he started.

"Face the horizon and steer!" Day commanded. Josh faced the horizon and steered.

A few hours had passed and Day felt her eyes droop as she sat down and stared blearily out the window at the darkened horizon.

"Don't you have anything fun on this dumb copter?" Day asked, yawning.

"I have a bed. Two actually..." he started to head towards a space that was dipping under the floor and coming back with a bed on it.

"Don't you dare." Day warned. With a resigned sigh, the boy headed back for the controls just as the nose started to dip again. "I hate this droning noise." Day grumbled. "I won't be able to sleep with it. Where are we heading again?"

Josh flashed her a grin. "I told you." he declared. "East!"

"Oh yeah," Day muttered. "Thanks, because that totally clears it up."

"Here, you take the controls. I haven't slept for two days." As if proving his point, his eyelids drooped.

"How?-"

"Take the wheel." The boy commanded. "Steer." Josh pushed her forward and placed her hands at awkward positions on the two sticks. "Driving copters these days are loads easier than it was in the 2000's." For the first time, Day noticed the way he stagger-stepped with exhaustion towards the bed. She looked doubtfully down at the controls placed in her hands.

"Straight course!" Josh called from his pillow covered mouth. "Don't turn. Look at the blinking light to your right. It'll turn red if you're heading away from the right place." Day's hands shook and the helicopter shook with them.

"Um..." She trailed off. "It's turning red."

"Turn right slightly and straight course." the boy responded. "And now, please let me sleep."

Sorry for such a short chapter!
