About Me, About the Novel "Star Fox: Eclipse"

Why am I doing something random like this? Well, one of my main purposes is to share my book, Star Fox: Eclipse. I thought that it would be helpful for readers to be able to get to know a little more about me so that we might help to develop the Star Fox reading community together.

That being said, I guess I need a place to start... So let's just fill in some background information.

I'm not going to give away too many personal things, although from my Author's Note you might have noticed my name is Otto Shaw. Very perceptive of you. *Applauds* So about me: I will not give you my age directly, but I just graduated from college, and have a bachelor's degree in mathematics. My plan afterward is to work for my Master's degree in mathematics starting this fall, but I'm not entirely sure what I plan on doing with that yet. Lol.

So you may be wondering: What is a math nerd doing writing a book about a fictional universe based on a video game? Sometimes I wonder that myself. Though I may be a math geek, I really enjoy creative fictional writing as well, but mainly focusing on Star Fox. I have written several smaller things, but my main focus is on my favorite game series. I say it is my favorite game series, and though I enjoyed the gameplay of most of them (except SF Command, for several reasons...), I am mainly interested in the story of the games. I'm not entirely sure why, but I really enjoy writing about the Star Fox characters and the universe in which they live.

I'll come back to Star Fox stuff in a bit, but I want to share some of my interests and hobbies, etc.

So I'm a gamer, a reader, and a writer mostly. I play many video games, but some of my favorites are the Halo games, League of Legends, anything having to do with Star Wars, among many others. I have always been a gamer, which is how I found Star Fox.

I mentioned I read, but I am not really a diverse reader. I really just read the Warriors books by Erin Hunter, and I own and have read every one to date :D (I love cats, the ones in the Warriors books and in real life. I'm a cat, not a dog person...)My favorite Warrior cat is Bramblestar, I really hope they make a series based on his and Squirrelfight's real kits...

I also enjoy the work of Tolkien, in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit books. However, I am willing to branch out and read some other things on here, because I find a lot of the work here very interesting and compelling. And of course, I'll dive into almost anything related to Star Fox. If you can't tell, I'm obsessed.

I'm not a really interesting person, well, I am, but I'm not, so enough about that for now. I'm also somewhat lazy, and I just feel like sharing a few quick things and letting everyone else fill in the details.

So what's really on my mind: Star Fox, who guessed it?

I was introduced to Star Fox a very long time ago, while at a Best Buy store. Star Fox Adventures must have just come out, so do the math if you want to know how long ago that was. Anyway, I was playing the demo in the store, you know where you use to have to hold the controller and stare up really really high so you could see the screen, on top of the display shelf? Yea, that. I played the very beginning part where you play as Krystal, and board the Sharpclaw Galleon and encounter General Scales for the first time. I enjoyed what little of the game I played, and knew nothing at all about Star Fox and hadn't even heard of Fox McCloud before (but hey, we all have to start somewhere), but I decided I wanted the game and got it.

That begain it all for me. I'm going to skip a lot of boring details, but here I am now, having written a 100k word book on the events happening after Star Fox Assault, and the time has come to share it on Wattpad. It is Star Fox: Eclipse, and though I have finished the book, I am posting it chapter by chapter every week or so as I go through editing with my brother (he's a really overanalytic person, even moreso than me, so he's doing a great job editing for me. He literally questions everything I write, making me have a purpose for every word I put on paper as he and I worked on developing and writing the story).

So here's an important question? Why write Eclipse? And what is the purpose of it all?

Well, here's the answer.

The last *unique* Star Fox game to be released was Star Fox Command in 2006 (ALMOST A DECADE AGO, PEOPLE), and even that game was questionable. The game itself has what, 9 endings? After researching a considerable amount, I'm not sure if anyone knows which ending is the true ending. Even if there is one, it is debatable if the events of the game are even canon to the Star Fox universe at all. So that left me, and surely many other Star Fox fans with a seemingly broken game series, with no real improvements in nearly 10 years.

So I wanted to do something about it. I had been toying with the idea of writing another Star Fox piece for quite some time (I had written several during my youth, but none so serious as to formally complete them or invest anything serious into them), but over the summer, my brother convinced me to go through with it. Many long months and thoughtful days later, Star Fox: Eclipse was no longer just an idea in my head, but had taken real, tangible form. I wanted to fill in some of the missing blanks Nintendo GRACIOUSLY *cough* *cough* left us with...

Like "what happened to Oikonny after Fortuna?"

and "why did the aparoids attack when and where they did?"

and "what was with that random aparoid attack 17 (ish) years before Assault? like WTF?"

and "what happened to Star Wolf, Peppy, Pepper, and the others who had been infected by the aparoids?"

Another good one, that even I left unanswered: "why does Krystal's staff, supposedly a Cerinian artifact, have so many connections to planet Sauria?"

etc......... the list is quite long.

So eventually, as you read Star Fox: Eclipse, some of these questions and many others will be filled in. Basically, I'm trying to do Nintendo a favor and clean up some of the gray area by inserting in some of my own ideas. Not all of them, if any of them, may be the best solutions, but my brother and I have tried to make sure that they are all logical, and fit into the framework of Nintendo's Star Fox world. And of course, to wrap it up all nice with a bow on top, I made sure that Eclipse could lead into the events of Star Fox Command, keeping consistent with what happens before the game just in case the events of that game are ever considered canon to the Star Fox universe officially.

So there you have it. Essentially, I was tired of waiting almost a decade for Nintendo to make another Star Fox game, and decided that I should take my own course of action. Of course, because of my luck, Nintendo announced the creation of a new Star Fox game at E3 2014, as I was writing my book. Hopefully they don't crush the series for good (after Command.......), but instead, bring life back to one of my favorite video games ever. But that's for another time. :D

Anyway, my hope is to eventually have Star Fox: Eclipse published at some point, or even have it used as the concept for a game. I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket, but it doesn't hurt to dream, right?

So that's about it for my mostly Star Fox based rant, I'm sure you learned hardly anything about me through my own ranting, but hopefully this helps you to understand me and why/how Eclipse came about. That being said, I hope you all enjoy reading it, as I have so enjoyed creating and writing it to share with others. A like, follow, and any comments would be appreciated, but reading alone is enough support already. I'm done ranting now, lol. Thanks again for all the support, more book updates to come.

So go check out my book, Star Fox: Eclipse! Enjoy! :D
