CHAPTER THREE » REUNITE
"Nobody gets left behind."

"Hey, what's happening, man!" Merle yelled.

Nobody replied.

"Hey, T-Dog, try that CB." Morales instructed.

"Hey, come on. Talk to me, y'all!"

"Base camp, this is T-Dog. Anybody hear me? Can anybody out there hear me?"

"There." Morales pointed at the street and I looked over, spotting Glenn and Rick.

Thunder rumbled in the distance and I prayed it wouldn't rain and screw everything up.

"That asshole is out on the street with the handcuff keys?" Merle asked in disbelief.

T-Dog slowly rose his hand, showing  the key.

I couldn't help but laugh.

I felt a drop of water on my skin and looked up to the sky.

"Oh man. It's just a cloudburst. We get 'em all the time. It'll pass real quick." Morales reassured.

I sighed, looking back at Glenn and Rick.

"Come on. Please make it out alive." I mumbled. "Please."

The rain started to pour down and I noticed Rick and Glenn starting to pick up the pace.

And not long after, they were running. And the walkers were following.

"Oh my god" I gasped.

"Come on, come on, come on." Morales mumbled.

I watched as they climbed over the fence and headed to a truck.

"They're leaving us." Andrea said as we watched them reverse out of the parking lot.

"What?" Merle asked. "What?"

"Where are they going? Where are they going?" Morales started to panic.

"No no, come back!" Andrea exclaimed.

"Oh my god." I ran a shaking hand through my hair. "Okay, I'm sure they're coming back. They wouldn't have gone without us, right?"

There's no way they would leave.

Glenn and I made a promise.

Nobody gets left behind.

~

After receiving a message from Glenn to meet at the roll-up doors, we all grabbed the weapons we had and ran to the door.

"Hey, you can't leave me here" Merle yelled. "I'm not fooling, man! Morales! Hey, man! Don't do this!"

"Come on!" Andrea called out to Morales and I.

I looked back at Merle, hesitating. Nobody gets left behind. But after all the shit he did? The constant comments he's said to us? Christ the amount of times he's almost killed us. He's not worth it. He's not worth risking my life for.

I followed the others and headed down the stairs, not looking back.

I made my way to the loading dock, where the girls were waiting, shortly followed by Morales.

Andrea grabbed the chains.

"Okay. Okay. I got it."

"Shh." Morales whispered.

I frowned, hearing something coming from outside. It sounded like a car alarm.

"What is that?" Andrea asked.

A truck suddenly pulled up and Rick stepped out.

"Hey, wait for me!" T-Dog yelled as we all piled into the back. There was a smash and I spun around to see the walkers starting to enter the store. "They're here! Let's go! They're in here!" T-Dog yelled.

"Let's go!"

Rick sped away, causing me to fall back slightly.

I grabbed onto something to steady myself, watching as the walkers started to chase after us.

Morales pulled the door down just as one reached us.

We sat in silence for a while until T-Dog spoke up.

"I dropped the damn key."

I realised that he was talking about Merle but strangely didn't feel much guilt.

There would be nothing we could do now anyway.

It went quiet again. All I could hear was the heavy breathing of the others and the sound of blood pounding in my ears.

When the adrenaline seemed to die down, I realised there was a presence missing.

"Rick, where the hell is Glenn?"

"In the other car." Rick replied. "We used the car alarm as a distraction to draw them away."

I nodded, relieved that my best friend was safe.

"Best not to dwell on it." Morales spoke up after a few moments. "Merle got left behind. Nobody's gonna be sad he didn't come back."

"Except maybe Daryl." I added.

"Daryl?" Rick asked.

"His brother." Morales answered.

I heard a familiar car alarm behind us and I watched as a red sports car sped past.

"Whoo-hoo!" I heard Glenn holler as he took over us, his hand triumphantly hanging out of the window.

I chuckled.

Glenn had told me all about his love for cars. I reckon all of his dreams have come true now.

"At least somebody's having a good day."

~

"Come meet everybody." I said to Rick as I hopped out of the truck.

I smiled to myself, knowing that Shane was here and that Rick would be so happy to see his best friend.

I had debated telling Rick back in Atlanta. But I wanted to make it a nice surprise.

It was funny, seeing Shane again when Glenn and I found this group. I didn't really know him as well as I knew Rick but he was the one that took over the training sessions when Rick was in a coma. It was weird though, Shane acted like he never knew me. So since I've been at camp, the two of us have hardly said two words to each other.

"Amy!" I glanced over to see a joyous looking Andrea running over to her sister.

"Andrea!"

I smiled, watching the two sisters embrace each other.

Morales had his reunion with his wife and kids too.

"You are a welcome sight."

Dale and Morales both laughed and hugged.

"I thought we had lost you folks for sure." Dale said, before pulling me into a hug too.

"Can't get rid of me that easily." I grinned.

Glenn wrapped his arms around me and I smiled, not wanting to let my best friend go again.

"I'm glad you're okay" he said.

I grinned. "Back at ya."

"How'd y'all get out of there anyway?" Shane asked, shifting his gun to his side.

"New guy." Glenn replied, squinting at the sun. "He got us out."

"New guy?"

"Yeah, crazy Vato just got into town." Morales said with an amused grin. "Hey, helicopter boy!" He yelled back to Rick, who was still by the truck. "Come say hello!"

The door to the truck shut and Rick stepped out for everybody to see.

I smiled to myself, waiting in anticipation for his reaction to seeing Shane.

"The guy's a cop like you." Morales told Shane.

"Oh my god." I heard Rick say, emotions swirling in his eyes.

Carl, the young boy in the camp, immediately started running over, Lori, his mother, following behind him.

"Dad! Dad!"

I watched as Rick took Carl in his arms and the two of them fell to the floor.

Oh my god, why didn't I put it together?

He was looking for his wife and son. They've been with us the whole time!

Rick approached Lori too, who looked in absolute shock.

I felt happy tears come to my eyes as I watched the family embrace each other. They were lucky to have a reunion like that in this world. They were lucky to find each other again.

Glenn put his arm around me and I smiled, placing my hand on his shoulder.

Both of us were alone. We didn't know what happened to our families. We didn't have anyone.

But I took Glenn's gesture as a sign to say that I have him. And I wanted Glenn to know that he has me too.

He'll always have me.
