Chapter Four

"Dude," Brendon said. "He's obsessed with you."

"Who? Josh?"

"Yes! He literally will not shut up about you!"

Tyler giggled shyly and blushed.

"Please, for my sanity, hang out with him again."

"I'd love to hang out with him again," Tyler said.

"Thank God."

Unknown number: Hey, Tyler! It's Josh. Brendon gave me your number. I was wondering if you maybe wanted to hang out this weekend?

Tyler smiled as he entered Josh's contact.

Tyler Joseph: I'd love to:)

Joshua Dun: Sick! Where do you wanna go? Do you like coffee?

Tyler Joseph: I love coffee!

Joshua Dun: great! I know this really cool coffee shop downtown. Are you free Saturday?

Tyler Joseph: Saturday works:)

Joshua Dun: Sick!!! I'll pick you up around 6:00. Can't wait!

So, on Saturday, right at 6:00, Josh knocked on Tyler's door.

"H-hi," Tyler smiled shyly as he opened it.

"Hi," Josh grinned. "These are for you."

Tyler blushed as he was handed a bouquet of roses. "Thank you so much."

Josh smiled and nodded. "Are you ready?"

Tyler nodded, grabbing his keys off the kitchen table before heading out the door with Josh.

Josh had talked to Brendon about the whole wheelchair thing and his questions, but Brendon just recommended asking Tyler himself. He'd only ever known how Tyler liked to be treated in a friend way, and he assumed it was different in a romantic way.

The boys talked about random things at the coffee shop, both smiling and blushing at one another.

Once Josh walked Tyler home, Ty asked if he wanted to maybe come inside. Josh said he'd love to.

So they got inside, Josh sitting on the couch while he and Tyler talked for hours.

"So... I-I know we've only known each other for a few days, and this might be crossing boundaries, b-but c-can I ask questions?" Josh asked.

"About the wheelchair?"

"Y-yeah..."

"Sure!" Tyler giggled. "Ask anything you want. I-I really don't mind. I-it's actually really nice that you asked. Most people just kind of assume or don't do anything."

"O-oh, good," Josh said, relieved he wasn't making anything uncomfortable.

Tyler smiled and nodded. "Anything you want. Even if you think it's dumb. I promise, it's not."

"O-ok. I-I guess I should start with how you got in a wheelchair?"

"When I was five I was in a really bad head-on car crash," Tyler answered. "It left me with circulation problems in my legs. Every other part of my body is okay, just my legs aren't. I've been in a chair since then."

"H-how do you um... a-and I don't mean to sound rude... b-but how do you get like i-in and out of the car and stuff?"

"I can walk a few steps a day. They're really painful and typically leave me exhausted, but I can walk a few steps. And you don't sound rude at all. I promise."

"Do you like people pushing you? O-or would you rather do it by yourself?"

"When it's just me and a friend, I do it myself. All the time. B-but I think it's kind of sweet when a guy pushes me when we're on a date. Well, actually, I-I've never been on a date, b-but if I were to go on one."

"We went on one today!"

"T-that was a date?"

"I thought it was..."

"Then it was," Tyler giggled.

Josh smiled and nodded.

"Y-you said you like dancing earlier," Josh said. "H-how do you dance?"

"Well, I do my version of dancing," Tyler giggled. "I just kinda sway back and forth to the music. But some people dance with people in their chairs. Like they spin and dip and everything. For me, I've never h-had anyone to dance with. B-but even if I did, it'd get in the way and wouldn't be romantic."

"If the person was someone who loved you, they wouldn't see the chair as in the way," Josh said. "They'd love you and dance with you all night. That's the romantic part." It made Josh sad that Tyler thought his chair was a burden.

Tyler shrugged. "I-I dunno. Nobody's every really liked me like that so I've never had to worry about it."

"I-I like you like that," Josh blurted out. " l-like in a-a crush type way."

"R-really?"

"Y-yeah. S-sorry if that's like... weird."

"I-I like you too," Tyler smiled shyly.

"R-really?"

"Y-yeah."

"S-Sick."

Tyler giggled shyly. He thought it was adorable how many times Josh said 'sick.'

"H-how should I hug you?" Josh asked.

Tyler giggled and shrugged. "However you want."

"I-I really want you to sit in my lap."

"That might be easier," Tyler giggled.

"H-how should we do that?"

"I'm gonna just come right here," Tyler said, relocating so he was right next to the couch before lifting himself up with his arms and getting onto the couch. "And sit next to you."

"O-oh. Y-you're good at that."

"Lots of practice."

"C-can I pull you into my lap? O-or is that weird?"

"It's not weird to me," Tyler said.

Josh nodded and did his best to get Tyler into his lap, eventually succeeding.

"C-can your legs still... function? Just you can't walk?" Josh asked.

"Exactly," Tyler smiled. "I can move them. I can feel them, just they're really weak due to lack of circulation."

"S-so like... y-you could cuddle with me?"

"Mhm. The chair is just for helping me get from place to place. I can change positions pretty easily."

"That's cool," Josh said. "We should try it sometime."

"Try what? Cuddling?"

Josh nodded.

"W-why not try it right now?"

Josh nodded. "Wait... d-do you think it'd be romantic if I carried you or no?"

"I think that would be super sweet, Joshua," Tyler smiled softly.

Josh grinned and nodded, picking Tyler up bridal-style and carrying him to his room. He lied him down on the bed before crawling in next to him, Tyler immediately snuggling up to him. He'd never had anyone to cuddle with before, but he'd always dreamt of it.

"So," Josh said. "Do you wanna be my boyfriend?"

"Y-you really wanna be my boyfriend? E-even though I'm in the chair?" Tyler asked, shocked. He thought Josh was just saying he liked him to be nice.

"I don't see you any differently because of the chair," Josh said. "Actually, I think you're cooler because of it. You're way stronger than anyone I've ever known."

Tyler blushed shyly. He was tearing up. No one had ever said that to him before.

"I really do mean it. A-and like, people shoot you looks down the street and you don't even care. I could never do that!"

Tyler did care, he just chose to ignore the looks. But that was beside he point.

"I've never had a boyfriend before," Josh confessed.

"I've never even been kissed before," Tyler said.

"W-well I like you, I think you like me, l-let's just... lets be boyfriend's."

"O-okay," Tyler giggled. "L-let's be boyfriends."

Josh smiled widely and nodded, hugging Tyler close.

He loved his boyfriend.
