Chapter Fifty Three

"Hey, Ty?" Josh asked later that night.

"Yesss, Jishwa?" Tyler hummed with a giggle, jumping in his husband's lap and kissing all over his face.

"Brendon and I are gonna go out tonight."

Tyler's smile fell. "I-I thought w-we were gonna do something special tonight..."

"I Uh... yeah, j-just brendon and I haven't seen each other in a while."

"C-can I come?"

"H-he only has two tickets for the concert we're going to," he said, scratching the back of his neck.

"O-oh."

"Y-yeah."

"O-ok," Tyler said. He crawled off of his lap and left the room, sitting on the couch.

Josh gathered his things and headed out the door. He didn't even tell Tyler bye.

Five hours laters and it was midnight.

He called Josh, leaving a voicemail.

"Joshie? I-I miss you. C-can you come home? I-I bought you a present for our engagement a-anniversary t-that we were gonna celebrate tonight and do something s-special for. I-I love you. B-bye."

He texted Josh a few times and didn't get a response that way either.

So he called Brendon.

"Hey Ty," Brendon said. "What's up?"

"Can I talk to Josh?"

"What do you mean?"

"Josh," Tyler said. "He's with you."

"Um... no he isn't."

"Is he on his way home?"

"I haven't been with Josh at all today," Brendon said.

"H-he said you guys were going to a concert a-and I wasn't allowed to come."

"Isn't it your engagement anniversary?"

"Y-yeah."

Something crossed Brendon's mind, and he really didn't want to say it. He knew it would send Tyler immediately spiraling back into how he was before the facility.

"I Uh... I'll call him, ok?" Brendon said. "Don't worry about him. I'm sure he'll be home soon."

"O-ok," Tyler said. "B-bye."

At three am, Josh quietly entered the bedroom.

Tyler was awake.

"Where were you?" He immediately asked.

"Ty? Why're you awake, baby?" Josh asked. "It's late."

"Where were you?" Tyler repeated.

"With Brendon at the concert," Josh said.

"Where were you actually?"

"What do you mean?" Josh asked.

"I called Brendon. He didn't see you at all. You didn't even go to a concert. Where were you?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Where were you, Joshua?" His voice was stern.

"I was at a concert!" Josh exclaimed. The light coming from the bathroom shone on his neck.

"W-what is that?" Tyler asked.

"What's What, Tyler? You're really pissing me off right now, you know."

"Come here," Tyler said.

"Why?"

"Come here!"

Josh rolled his eyes and sat on the bed by his husband. "What?"

Tyler turned Josh's head so he could see his neck in full.

There was a hickey. He hadn't given Josh a hickey in months.

"Joshua..." he said softly.

"What?" Josh snapped.

"Y-you..."

"I What, Tyler?!"

"Y-you were cheating on me!" Tyler yelled, tears streaming down his cheeks. "Y-you were c-cheating on me!"

Josh's posture slumped. He didn't say anything.

"J-Josh..."

"Ty, I..."

"Y-you don't love me," Tyler whispered, tears continuing to fall as he started getting out of bed. "Y-you never loved me."

"Tyler," Josh said, following him.

Tyler went to the bathroom locking himself inside.

"Baby," Josh said, messing with the handle trying to get in. "Ty, let me in so I can explain."

"E-everything i-is a lie," Tyler said. "T-the past five years h-has been a complete lie."

Josh heard a banging noise from the bathroom. He knew it was Tyler hitting his head against the wall. That was always what he did when he was having thoughts of hurting himself.

"T-Ty," Josh quickly said. "T-Ty baby, d-don't do that. D-don't hurt yourself. Y-you've been doing s-so well."

Josh explained everything to Tyler, how yes, he had been having an affair with the girl who had walked into the office earlier. It'd been over the last few months and he was so, so sorry.

After about 10 minutes, the banging got progressively louder then stopped completely.

"T-Ty?" He asked softly. "T-Tyler? T-Tyler, are you okay?"

No response.

"O-oh my god," Josh said shakily. He quickly grabbed his phone and called 911.

The ambulance got there, the paramedics knocking the door down.

Josh screamed at the sight.

There was blood everywhere, Tyler was unconscious.

Fourteen days later, Tyler was released from the hospital.

The drive home was silent.

He immediately got out of the car and went into the home, closing the bedroom door and locking the door behind him.

Josh tugged on his hair, trying to think of how to make things better. He knew that just wasn't possible, though. He had destroyed Tyler. All the progress he had made was thrown away.

He didn't want to live anymore.

"B-baby?" Josh said as he knocked on the door that night. "I-I made you dinner. M-Mac n cheese a-and chicken strips a-and Oreos. A-all your favorites."

"P-please dont call me that," Tyler said quietly from the other side of the door.

"Call you what, Ty?"

"B-baby. O-or Ty. O-or anything like that," Tyler sniffled. "J-just T-Tyler."

"O-oh," he said. "O-ok. I-I'm sorry."

Tyler didn't say anything.

"D-do you wanna come eat dinner with me?"

"No."

"Can I come in? J-just for a minute."

"No."

"O-ok. I'll um... I-I'll just leave dinner out here. T-text me if you need anything."

It was quiet.

"I-I love you," Josh said a few minutes later.

Tyler waited for Josh to be gone before he opened the door and brought his food in the room, locking the door again.

That night, both boys sobbed in separate rooms, wishing they could turn back time.
