Chapter 65: The Offering

We all went downstairs after listening to Maria's advice. She said that Black only needed some rest to get well. Me, Aunt Emi, Gabrielle, Sophiel and Asmodeus, we all sat around the table while Maria played with little Luna at the side. Looking at her childlike behaviour, it was hard to believe that she was a seraph.

"So... now do you care to continue with the truth about your 'husband'?"

I grinned and kept quiet. That's what she gets for doubting me before!

"Just spit it out already."

Gabrielle and Sophiel considered their mission finished after Black returned. About my safety? They believed that no demon would dare to come near me now that the nightmare of demons was here. But they still stayed around because of Maria. Those two were also very interested in my story too, and they too urged me to speak. Even though Maria was playing along with Luna, she too looked at me with an expecting gaze. After a few moments, I gave in to their demands.

"Like I have told you before. He fell from the sky. Back then, he wanted to give up his life. He was falling, but unlike other angels, he didn't try to fly. I was watching it from the balcony. I couldn't endure it and screamed -'Fly you idiot!"

Gabrielle and Sophiel laughed when they heard me.

"You're so courageous, Eve. No one in Eden would call him that."

"And why is that? I remember I too called him idiot many times," Aunt Emi asked. Those two had no idea how to reply to her.

"After he heard me, he started flying towards me with his one wing. At first, I was just scared, but then I was looking forward to it. In the end, he couldn't reach me and fell in the backyard. I didn't know if I could take him to the hospital. Thus, I picked him up as dragged him to the room. When he woke up, he told me that we had met in the past. Do you remember the dream I used to have? About a boy who grows wings and flies away? He was the same boy... Then he asked me to give him a name, and I blurted out Ablackwing."

"You got nothing better? How can you have such terrible naming sense?"

"Don't look at me like that! It was partially his fault."

"Ahm... Mister Black uses to call Eve Angelheart before," Sophie giggled.

"They say it right. Birds of a feather flock together." I decided to continue with my story, not caring about their comments. I couldn't refute them anyway.

"I don't know when, but I started to feel those butterflies in my stomach. I fell for him a little more with each day we spent together. Black only showed his love, never spoke it out. And I had no idea what I was supposed to think of our relationship when we both belonged to different worlds. I just waited for a miracle... And the miracle happened. He finally asked me for a date out of jealousy. Do you know we encountered a demon in our way back and for the first time? That was when I saw my Black's angry side.

"The second miracle happened quicker than the first. Asmodeus," I politely pointed at her. She was my helper. I don't know how much I would need to wait if not for her. Asmodeus smiled at me back. "She seriously injured Black and when he woke up, he confessed to me. He proposed to me. And I accepted without a second thought... Just that was my story."

"Why does he only have one wing?" Aunt Emi questioned. Upstairs, she had seen the wing of my Black.

"A demon cut off his wing..." I answered her.

"Ah. I'm sorry."

"It's okay."

"What happened after? Why did he leave you then?"

"I couldn't control myself." It was Black who answered my aunt's question. When I heard his voice again, I froze. I wanted to turn around, but I was afraid that I might be hearing things. But after a few seconds, I turned around.

Black was standing near the door. He was wearing my royal blue shirt with all buttons undone. He was holding his left elbow in his right hand, which was dimly glowing.

Black looked right into my eyes and mouthed the words 'I love you' before turning his head towards my aunt. This gentle person was the real Black. My Black was back!

"I am a Bloodthirsty. It was my fate to become a demon one day. I was slowly losing myself to the dark side. I was afraid that if I stayed around, I might hurt my Eve when darkness takes over. I went away to search for a way to defy my fate." Black walked towards me as he explained himself. I just stared at him without blinking. My heart was wildly thumping in joy.

"And I finally found the way!" That wide grin on his face was enough for me to realize how happy he was. I felt happy for him, but I felt even happier realizing that he was back. And I was not going to let him fly away from my life again ever again.

"Is that for real?" Asmodeus asked him.

"You are not healed yet." Maria said. Black didn't pay heed to any of them and walked to me.

Gabrielle and Sophiel stood up and respectfully moved back, making room on the couch so that he could sit beside me. I don't know if their respect came from heart or fear. Black didn't sit. He continued staring into my eyes and I stared back into his. Black then sat on his knees.

"I am sorry for making you suffer. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me... I found the way, love. I will not be a monster anymore, as I promised."

I hugged him as tightly as I could. He tried to suppress it, but a groan escaped his lips as I hugged him. I realized he was still hurt and I quickly let him go.

"I don't care about it anymore. Be whatever. Just don't you dare leave me again!"

"I will not." Black wiped away the tears that had somehow found their way out of my eyes and kissed my forehead. "Never again."

"Help me button this shirt, please. It's embarrassing to be like this in front of so many ladies." Black asked me as he stood up. Black never got embarrassed by being shirtless before! At least he understood what shame is after all that we days. But without any more complaints, I helped him.

"He stupid brother. Go and rest. You are not healed yet," Maria chided him from the other side.

"Heal me little Maria. I don't have much time left."

"You keep saying that over and over. Just what is left for you to do now?" Maria asked as she walked over us.

"The final offering... Leave that. Why have you come here?" Black then called on to Asmodeus. He sat down on the couch and wrapped his hand around me. Maria left Luna in Aunt Emi's care and sat on the other side. Maria held his hand in hers and began healing.

Asmodeus walked towards Black. She knelt on one knee, and that scroll appeared in her hand again. She offered the scroll to him with both her hands and kept her eyes down.

Black used one of his abilities to make the scroll float up from her hand and open itself. Asmodeus, like before, recited the contents of the contract. Black was surprised but his surprise did not last longer than Asmodeus took to recite the contract.

"Told you that even mother won't be able to stop me. Tell me Asm, would do the same things if you knew this day would come."

"I would never. I regret..."

"Then I accept your eternal servitude." As Black said those words, silver flames appeared on that piece of paper. Those flames burned that contract to nothingness. I didn't want him to accept the demon queen of lust as a slave, but at that moment, I didn't stop him.

"Come back after a week, Asm. We will discuss those terms again."

"But..." Asmodeus was hesitant.

"That's an order."

"As you command, master." Asmodeus stood up, bowed down to Black before she walked towards the backyard. Asmodeus unfurled her bat-like wings and flew away.

"Is that what I think it is..." Aunt Emi asked, and I realized they she didn't know about Asmodeus.

"Yes. Asm is a demon queen." Black told her.

"Isn't she dangerous? Why are you playing with fire?"

"The most dangerous person in this house is me, mother-in-law."

"Oh, please." My aunt didn't believe Black, just like I didn't believe it before. Gabrielle and Sophiel smiled at the side.

"What are you two smiling for?" Aunt Emi asked, but they didn't reply. How could they?

"Wifey. I want to take you somewhere. Will you come with me?" Black asked me, ignoring those three.

"Hey, stupid brother! You're in no condition to go anywhere!"

"Please, Maria. I don't have much time left... I have to make the final offering." Black then looked into my eyes. "To this awesome person."

I held him tightly. I cared not about what he wanted to give me.

"Wifey, I want to take you to a special place. Will you come with me?"

"Wherever you take me."

After a few minutes of silence, Maria was done healing my Black. "That is the best I could do. My reserves are not as immense as yours."

"Thank you, Maria... Leave with Gabrielle and Sophiel before I come back. And never return."

"But..." Maria wanted to protest, but he didn't give her a chance to.

Black then got up and walked towards the backyard. I hurriedly followed him outside. Black stood behind me and let out his black wing. He locked his finger around my waist and I knew what he was going to do. He then whispered.

"Don't get afraid later. I'll never let go of you."

The next thing I knew was that I was flying through the clouds.
